Over-categorization
I've been recategorizing a few of your uploads because they were over-categorized. BrokenSphere 18:18, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Basically the guideline is to to place something into the most specific categories possible, e.g. I removed Civic Center from a couple of your city hall uploads because the category San Francisco City Hall is already in the "parent" category Civic Center. The categories function like a tree, so putting something into a "child" category while also placing it in one of the "parents" is redundant. BrokenSphere 19:48, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Category thoughts on NRHPs
Hey! I'm glad you're uploading pics here, and that you're using Commonist (it helps so much). I've been uploading my Florida NRHP pics here for a while, so I know a thing or two about the category system. Here's some that I tend to add where appropriate. I changed them to California, of course. :)
- Category:Bridges in California
- Category:Buildings in California
- Category:Churches in California
- Category:Courthouses of California
- Category:Doors in the United States
- Category:History museums
- Category:Hotels in California
- Category:Houses in California
- Category:Libraries in California
- Category:Museums in California
- Category:Plaques in California
- Category:Schools in California
- Category:Signs in California
- Category:Theaters in California
- Category:Town halls in California
- Category:Train stations in California
- Category:Water towers in California
Hope this helps. If you've got any questions, feel free to drop me a line here or on Wikipedia. Cheers! :) -Ebyabe 23:16, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
re:How to request a category deletion?
Hello Sanfranman59, my question to You is, is it likely that someone else spells it like Category:Octagon House, if yes, I would propose to add {{Category redirect|Octagon houses}} if not, it can be deleted.
The deletion request is absolutely ok, as far as I can see, as You might have noticed every day there are requests no one gets to, thus the backlog. ;( For completely misspelled empty categories please use {{speedy|reason}}. Further information You could find here, I hope I could be of help. If You ask me, I would make a category redirect. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 10:51, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again, yes, I understand it too, that the creation of the category had been a mistake and that the category name is wrong. The question is, is it likely the category could be named just like this by another one again? If so the mentioned template is better, because it will show users where to find the correct cat. What do You think, best regards, (posted something like this in the deletion discussion too to maybe get some input there), best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 22:26, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
