The Leys School alumni
Hi Paddy, thanks for the updates of the houses and years of alumni I note you've been adding to The Leys page; I was wondering where you were able to get this information from? Is there a yearbook or something?--Zoso Jade 15:54, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Hancock.jpg
Yes the "Leys School Directory" was published for many years at seven yearly intervals. The last was in 1999 so a new editon is due, but sensitivies over Data protection seem to mean that it won't appear again, which is a shame. Back copies of the '99 volume are probably available from the School. PaddyBriggs 07:43, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
<span style="font-size:32px; line-height:1em">'</span> Thanks for uploading :File:Hancock.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. <!-- Template:Di-orphaned fair use-notice --> Courcelles 03:18, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back
Good to see you back. Tintin 11:14, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks very much. I struggle at times with Wiki - especially when ghastly polital correctness causes real bias. An example is the absurd entry on the island of Ireland where we are not allowed to say that Ireland is part of the British Isles!!!! Wiki can be absurd at times. But the cricket project is good and I'll perhaps stay there rather than straying into more poltically sensitive areas! I have lots of photos in my archive (all self made) so I may be able to upload a few more where there are cricket gaps. Let me know. And thanks again. :It will be a good time to return to cricket articles because there is a lot of activity happening at the moment, with the world cup in mind ! A couple of articles became FA last week and a few more are in the pipeline. Tintin 14:42, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Bob Woolmer photograph
hi, just to let u know that i've copied :Image:Bob Woolmer.JPG over to commons (as :Image:Bob Woolmer.JPG in order to use in this article. best, Doldrums 13:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

ICC Location
Can you please source the paragraph though, 'cause I don't think that the reason for the move or a secondary reason cause if they wanted to be closer to the sub-continent then why not go to a even closer place like nepal or something if they were looking for a neutral but closer place to the sub-continent?--THUG<font color="#E41B17">CHILD</font><font color="#C0C0C0">z</font> 07:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

:Image:Swanton.jpg
The bookcover template now states (though I don't think it did when you uploaded the photo in 2005) that such images can be used only "to illustrate an article discussing the book in question". In other words, they can't be used simply as a surrogate bio photo (even for dead people). The E. W. Swanton article doesn't contain any critical commentary on the book itself, so I don't see that we can justify the use of this image in said article. It's also lacking the required "detailed fair use rationale". Loganberry (Talk) 10:49, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
:Hello again. Thanks for the addition of the text, which makes the use of the image in the first place less problematic, but could you please also add the required detailed fair use rationale to the image page itself? I've seen pics deleted in the past purely because that isn't there. Thanks.

:I should also mention that this particular tag needs quite a lot of detail in the rationale, even compared to other fair-use tags. To quote from its boilerplate text:

::Please include in your fair use rationale details of the particular edition (publisher, market & year of publication) of the edition you have used, and also acknowledge any cover artist if such artist is acknowledged in that edition's frontmatter

: Loganberry (Talk) 13:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

::As no detailed fair-use rationale has been added in the fortnight since I wrote the above, I'm taking this to WT:CRIC, as there's a more general point regarding book cover images that I want to make there. <s>Please be aware, though, that without the aforementioned detailed rationale (not just the existing boilerplate) the image is subject to a no rationale tag and therefore to possible deletion.</s> Apologies; I was wrong about that last bit, as the image was uploaded before 4 May 2006. ==ICC Umpiring Controversies==

Thank you for the reinstatement of the section I drafted on the recent ICC umpiring controversies. I have tried to explain to THUGCHILDz that I genuinely don't hold any POV myself on these matters. Whilst the widespread criticism of the ICC by the print and television media (in India, Pakistain, UK, Australia, South Africa, West Indies etc) does of course express those journalists' POVs, I would have thought that the very phenomenon of that POV is in itself a fact (whether or not you agree or disagree with it). I tried to write the article acknowledging the correct sources and stating that what was being expressed was not the POV of the article itself.

It strikes me that if you remove all references to publicly acknowledged controversies on a subject matter, then that omission is itself the expression of a particular POV. Personally, as the ICC is the custodian for the promotion of the game of cricket internationally, I would always hope that they may be perceived favourably as a consequence of the discharge of their responsibilities, as this in turn will reflect positively on the game. Any way, thanks again for the reinstatement. Kind regards--Calabraxthis 10:51, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Mark Benson
Thanks for trying to remove the point-of-view problems with this article. However, I might suggest that you re-insert some of the material about his career. In particular I'd like to some his career details added back in - as a guide, have a look at Adam Gilchrist, a current featured article for a template on what to expect from an experienced cricketer. Benson has had a great career, both cricketing and umpiring, and this article could, in time, become featured, so detail is important, but it absolutely must be neutral. Regardless of that, well done on being bold and going for it! Let me know if you'd like to discuss this or anything else in the world of Wikipedia...
