Following the Revolution, Mulligan's tailoring business prospered. He retired in 1820 and died in 1825, aged 84. Mulligan was buried in the Sanders tomb behind [[Trinity Church (Manhattan)|Trinity Church]]. When the church was enlarged, the Sanders tomb was covered. Today, there is a tombstone located in the southwest quadrant of the churchyard bearing Mulligan's name.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://feniangraves.net/Mulligan,%20H/Mulligan,%20%20H..htm | title=Hercules Mulligan (1740-1825) | publisher=Fenian Graves Association | access-date=6 February 2016 | author=Ó Coısdealha, Tomás | website=Fenian Graves | date=15 November 2008}}</ref>

Hercules Mulligan: The True Story - Hercules is listed as being in possession of Salves most of his life, within two of the census records after the revolution he is listed with Slaves. The last census record Hercules is listed in is the 1820, where he is in possession of a girl slave, four years before his death. He is also not named as a founder of the NY manumission, a H Mulligan is listed in the following meetings however this could be his brother Hugh or another H Mulligan of which there was a number. We have no evidence this is Hercules <ref>{{Cite web |last=McCracken |first=Stephen |date=2022-02-17 |title=Hercules Mulligan: The True Story - The Gaelic American |url=https://gaelicamerican.com/hercules-mulligan-the-true-story/ |access-date=2022-08-26 |language=en}}</ref>
