Social Commentary

The Pat & Mat series also seems to be a social commentary on life under communism. There are several ways this theme seems to come out:

  • Contentment Propaganda: Citizens should be content with their conditions. The government knows what it is doing, and if you try to “fix it” you’ll only make things worse.
  • Desperation: No matter how hard Pat & Mat try to make things better for themselves, things keep getting worse. This is an allusion to the repression from totalitarian communist regimes.
  • Anti-Capitalism Propaganda: “ Pull oneself up by one’s bootstraps” is a prominant capitalistic ideal. Pat & Mat could only rely on the more socialistic “rising tide” to lift their boat.

Classic! Like Smurfs. Paste it in article under Rumors -> Pat & Mat and communism, like it is done under Smurfs. Maybe cartoon also implies homosexuality? Is anything written about that yet?

_______

Can someone create redirection: A je to -> Pat & Mat, because original title was "...A JE TO!"
