Etymology
editFrom Arabic سَطَرَ (saṭara). Compare Hebrew סְטִירָה (s'tira, “slap”). The /s/ became fully emphasised due to proximity to an emphatic. Compare similar development for the word for ruler from the same root: مصطرة (maṣṭara), and the word for line, row: صطر (ṣaṭir).
