Tavel is a wine-growing AOC in the southern Rhône wine region of France, across the Rhône River from Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC.

Only rosé wines are made, from varieties including Grenache, Cinsaut, Syrah, Clairette Blanche, Clairette Rose, Piquepoul, Calitor, Bourboulenc, Mourvèdre and Carignan.

Tavel is reputed to have been the favourite rosé of Louis XIV and the great Nineteenth Century novelist, Honoré de Balzac.[1].
