Yuan Tan (simplified Chinese: 袁谭) (died 202) was the eldest son of Yuan Shao and served as a genreal under his father's command. He was killed by Cao Hong when he challenged Cao Cao to a duel.

In the historic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Gunazhong, Yuan Tan was the eldest son of Yuan Shao. When Yuan Shao died, his son Yuan Shang (Yuan Tan's younger brother) was selected as heir. This led to a war between the brothers. The warlord, Cao Cao, took this as a perfect opportunity and attacked Yuan Tan. During a battle, Yuan Tan rode out and challenged anyone in Cao Cao's camp to face him. Cao Cao's relative, Cao Hong, rode out. After a short duel, Yuan Tan turned and fled, but unfortuneatly Cao Hong caught up with Yuan Tan and killed him.
