Shame is an upcoming American remake of the original Norwegian teen drama television series Skam. The original show tells the daily life of teenagers at their high school in Oslo. The series deals with popular teenage topics such as drugs, sex, alcohol, religion or relationships in an original way. Each day of the week, a short clip is posted to the official website and at the end of the week, each clip is compiled in a 20 to 30 minute long episode. Skam acquired a big notoriety in Europe in 2016 and Simon Fuller, producer of American Idol, concluded a deal with the Norwegian broadcaster NRK in December 2016 to produce the American English language version of the show.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Cast
In August 2017, information about the cast leaked on Twitter. It is believed that Timothée Chalamet, Odeya Rush and Charles Vandervaart have been cast. XIX Entertainment has not made a public announcement yet.
Character | Portrayed by |
---|---|
Will (American version of Jonas) | Timothée Chalamet |
Nina (American version of Eva) | Odeya Rush |
Isaac (American version of Isak) | Charles Vandervaart |
Production
As of August 2017, XIX Entertainment has not chosen a filming location for Shame (Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis and Austin are rumoured to be potential filming locations) and is in very early stages of production. According to a Swedish media, principal photography will take place from the end of the summer 2017 through the beginning of 2018. It also claims that Shame will air sometime in late 2018.[7] The show will obviously follow the same plot format as Skam, meaning that the main American characters of each season are the counterpart Norwegian characters (Eva, Noora, Isak and Sana), and it will have the same interaction format with messages and clips posted in real time on an official website.[8]
