Cataloochee Ski Area is located near Maggie Valley, North Carolina. The area has eighteen ski slopes and trails. Approximately 44% of the slopes are rated beginner, 39% intermediate, and 17% advanced. With a top elevation of 5,400 feet (1,600 m), Cataloochee has a maximum vertical drop of 740 feet (230 m). The slopes are accessed by three chair lifts and two carpet lifts. Typical of North Carolina ski areas, Cataloochee relies primarily on machine made snow for its slopes. Cataloochee is known for having one of the longest seasons in the southeast, and in 2008 it opened October 28. They average 125 days each season.
