Brewery Reference

Hi. You added this reference: https://ezproxy.lib.le.ac.uk/login?url=http://www.portal.euromonitor.com/Portal/ResultsList.aspx to a number of brewery pages, but this site requires an account to login. Also, I can't see how the specified page would support all of the results.

At the very least these links should be identified as needing an account to view, but even then, such references are not preferred. -- EdJogg (talk) 23:29, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it does require an account to view. I think that it is still worthwhile to have those links there, as this information is very valuable. The page is essentially a list of beer market shares, so it can support all of the results. --Farrtj (talk) 23:33, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I had had a look at the link to make sure it wasn't a commercial thing -- the URL doesn't give any hint of what it's about -- but I'll let others decide whether they should remain. Obviously I can't check its validity. I've added a note to the ref on the Theakston's page, as it happens to be on my watchlist. Cheers for the prompt response. -- EdJogg (talk) 23:45, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

EuromMonitor are a large company; famous in the trade; who monitor sales of consumer goods. --Farrtj (talk) 23:59, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Euromonitor International are a reliable source, and are already used in 88 different articles, such as Beer in the Philippines, so the source is fine. However, I did look at the Theakston Brewery cite mentioned by EdJogg, and noted that it led me here, which is to a log in for people registered to Leicester University. While in principle such limited access sources are acceptable, it would be possible for people to access Euromonitor International without having to be a student or member of staff of Leicester University, so it would be more helpful to link directly to the source rather than via the Leicester University log in. If that is not possible, then provide more information, such as date and name of report and page number where the information is found. If there is a webpage address, then provide that as well. However, yes, it is better to have some form of cite than nothing at all. SilkTork *YES! 09:55, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. This is pretty much what I was trying to say...I knew the principles but not how to direct anyone to them.
Farrtj, keep up the good work! -- EdJogg (talk) 12:13, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Mcewans logo.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Mcewans logo.gif. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. You need to use Template:Logo fur and fill in the blanks. Copy and paste this:
{{logo fur
| Article           = McEwan's
| Use               = Brand
| Used for          =
| Owner             =
| Website           =
| History           =
| Commentary        =
<!--OVERRIDE FIELDS -->
| Description       =
| Source            = http://www.mcewans.co.uk/verify.php
| Portion           =
| Low resolution    =
| Purpose           = <!--Must be specified if Use is not Infobox / Org / Brand / Product-->
| Replaceability    =
| Other information =
}}

Quite simple really. Somebody should make a logo bot that puts in that template, and does a google search for the logo source. SilkTork *YES! 10:03, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Webster's

I've completely overhauled the Samuel Webster's page. I'd appreciate a second opinion as it's my first project.--Farrtj (talk) 07:18, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good work. You have a decent amount of information there, and you have presented it well. I've tidied up the cites. Formatting of cites is a tricky business, so it's quite normal that someone will tidy up the cites. The important thing is to cite - formatting is not important! I also built up the lead a little per WP:Lead, though it could be developed a bit more. You might want to do a bit of copy-editing at some point as there are a number of short sentences which disturbs the flow when reading. On the whole an impressive bit of work. Well done and carry on! File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Boddingtons301.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 16:20, 18 April 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jamietw (talk) 16:20, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Boddingtons601.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Boddingtons601.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. License tagging for File:Stones.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Stones.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

McEwan's

I've improved the McEwan's page substantially. My remaining problem is a lack of information. Farrtj (talk) 17:42, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will look at this shortly. SilkTork *YES! 22:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The page looks good. Yes, lack of solid information is a perennial problem for beer articles. Often one can get lots of blogs and forums and self-published material from enthusiasts, but little in the way of reliable sources. Sometimes one has to accept that an article will have to wait for further development. Second hand bookshops are often worth investigating for books on breweries and beer brands. Many beer books are not catalogued on Google. Libraries will also have books on local breweries. It's a long, slow process! SilkTork *YES! 09:52, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's annoying because a lot of the beer blogs are very good and I imagine (indeed sometimes know) that their facts are usually accurate. However blogs aren't acceptable. I browsed Leeds Waterstone's local interest section the other day. Absolutely nothing on Tetley brewery! The rare factual books on the likes of Stones and Webster's are only available in their native towns of Sheffield and Halifax. I suppose one can get inter-library loans? Farrtj (talk) 13:02, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well done

Farrtj has earned a plusbox for doing something witty, brilliant, or otherwise noticable. Thanks for your recent contributions.

Hi SilkTork. At the moment if you wiki "Stones Bitter" it redirects to the MolsonCoors site. "William Stones" directs to a minor US politician. The majority of searchers will be seeking "William Stones Ltd". I don't know how to fix it myself so that William Stones Ltd is favoured. Can you help me out? Cheers Farrtj (talk) 19:49, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Stones Bitter" already redirected to William Stones Ltd - I have fine-tuned it to go direct to the section on the beer. This was not an admin action, and you can edit redirect pages as an experienced editor. For William Stone, I have added a hat note (see Wikipedia:HATTEST and Wikipedia:Hatnote for further information) to the article, alerting people that there is another William Stone. Hi, great work with the brewery articles. Stones is coming along well. Re this image I've solved the first issue which was a missing } but I think you need to add more detail about where the image came from etc. Is it a scan of a beermat? In Leeds we never had many Stone's pubs so it's not a logo I'm too familiar with-Tetley's would be a different story:-) NtheP (talk) 22:18, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
