The York County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency in York County, South Carolina. It is headed by Sheriff Bruce Bryant.[1]

Location

The office headquartered at the Moss Justice Center on York Highway.[2]

Organization

The office includes a number of divisions:

  • Administrative Services
  • Criminal Investigation Services
  • Detention Division, which runs the 565-bed county jail
  • Support Services, which includes a police dog unit and a Lake Enforcement Unit equipped with three boats.

Controversy

In February, 2012 the detention division accidentially released Thomas Whitlock. Whitlock was brought to York County on drug charges from North Carolina, where he was serving time for a 2009 Charlotte, NC murder. He was caught several days later hiding out in Dallas, Texas.
