Selection criteria: WikiProject Women's History
Hi. I see you are putting WikiProject Women's History banners on opera singers, such as Kirsten Flagstad and Isobel Baillie. May I ask what your selection criteria is? Thanks and regards.--Kleinzach 05:23, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- The WP:WMNHIST is fairly new, and I think right now we're just looking to identify a good range of biographical and other entries that would fall under a women's history rubric. The history of women in the arts is certainly one of the areas we're interested in covering. As for criteria, we're mostly not tagging biographical entries of living people right now (though there are some exceptions). Penny Richards (talk) 14:12, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Penny Richards
- I'd recommend not tagging biographies that are unrelated to women's history. (Flagstad for example was apolitical.) We've had problems in the past with banner spamming. It's generally regarded as a nuisance. I think it would be better if you were selective, bannering articles that needed the attention of your project or were relevant to it. Thanks. --Kleinzach 02:37, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think we're defining women's history so narrowly, as a history of feminism or a history of women's rights. Part of the project's goal is to address when and how women's stories are being represented on Wikipedia, across historical fields (sports history, for example, and medieval history, and medical history, for three sub-areas that have been identified so far). But I can run your concern past the rest of the project and see what they think.Penny Richards (talk) 03:59, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Penny Richards
- OK. Obviously it is up to the project what criteria they use. My point is that there should be criteria, otherwise it is just another mass marking exercise of the kind that can only be maintained (in the medium term) by bots. (I am thinking, of course, of the past history of the Biography project.) --Kleinzach 05:27, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Not to be picky, but you inserted a name into a cited sentence. Is that name actually supported by that reference? Yworo (talk) 22:03, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'll check--Mary Hunter Austin was a very close friend and frequent guest of the Luhans, I'd be surprised if she wasn't one of the "and others" referred to in the sentence. Penny Richards (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Penny Richards
- The answer is yes--the name is supported by that specific reference. I'll restore it. Penny Richards (talk) 22:14, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Penny Richards
- Great, thanks for checking. I'm always dubious of insertions into previously cited material as potentially leading to creeping inaccuracy... Yworo (talk) 22:15, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- Glad to check. Better safe than inaccurate. ;) Penny Richards (talk) 22:17, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Penny Richards

Thanks for your recent work on entries related to women's history. I'm glad you're participating in WikiProject Women's History. If you have any questions, concerns, or bright ideas about the project, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Since you're experienced in editing scholarly encyclopedias, I'd be particularly interested in hearing your thoughts about how we might recruit more editors and get people excited about contributing. ---Shane Landrum (cliotropic | talk | contribs) 00:11, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Members' input needed at WikiProject Women's History
Hello. I'm writing to you as your name is listed on the members page for WikiProject Women's History. In recent discussions at the project, most notably here, several members have indicated that the scope of the project may need to be more clearly defined and communicated. I have set up a workshop page for this, but it obviously needs as wide a participation as possible to achieve genuine consensus and to allow the project to move forward. You'll find the workshop here.
If you no longer consider yourself an active member of the project, it would help if you could indicate this on the members' page. This will allow us to better gauge how much people-power we actually have. Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Women's History Project – Final call for comments on the Scope draft
Our workshop on revising and clarifying the scope of our project has produced a draft outlining our project's scope and criteria for article inclusion. Please join us at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women's History/Scope workshop#Scope draft to discuss this document. There's a separate section beneath it for final comments, which will remain open through Tuesday, June 14th. As Cynwolfe says "with good participation, we should be able to revise our project page soon, clearing up the issues we've been dealing with and preparing us to go on to the fun stuff." Best wishes, Voceditenore (talk) 12:40, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Survey
Hi Penny!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Your submission at Articles for creation
I noticed your submission in Articles for creation, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Maud Younger. Thanks! It will be reviewed by a volunteer soon.
Before it can be added to Wikipedia, your submission should have references. All articles on Wikipedia should have inline, numbered references after facts, showing the 'reliable source' (a newspaper, book, etc.) where the information can be checked, so that all information is verifiable.
Here's an example of how to add references:
He likes tea.<ref> Smith, John. "[http://foonews.com/Article42 Interview with Chzz]", Foo News, 1 April 2010. Retrieved 2011-05-22. </ref>
== References ==
{{reflist}}
That makes the references automatically display as small numbers[1] which will link to the details in the section titled == References == at the end. You can see that example in action here.
Please add references to your submission, which will be reviewed as soon as possible. See also, Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. If you need any help, just put {{helpme}} at the end of this page, followed by a question or get into our live help chat chanel at #wikipedia-en-help connect.

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Women's History for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. Ways to improve Shirley Kaneda
Hi, I'm SarahStierch. Penny Richards, thanks for creating Shirley Kaneda!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Hi Penny. Sadly Kaneda's website and associated websites aren't reliable sources that establish notability. It'd be great if you could replace those with reliable secondary sources. Thanks and great start!
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Hi Penny! I just found out that Simone Montemurno (you might have met her at previous edit-a-thons) is organizing a Wikipedia editing session this coming Tuesday. Since I've sent too many messages lately (and soon will be sending another message for October events), I'm not doing a super huge spam effort for the event, but I figured I'd call it to your attention! Invitation
Have you heard of the Kaffeeklatsch? It is a test area for women to hear and support each other. The idea came about as a result of a discussion at meta regarding my IdeaLab proposal (yet open) for WikiProject Women.
Now that the klatsch has survived an MfD and WMF legal has said that it does not violate the non discrimination policy,[1] I am looking for women editors who might like to join.
Although I have started a couple of discussions, they are not urgent. For now, the "Please introduce yourself" discussion is more important! I want to take it slow at first and build a small group before trying to address heavy topics or come up with big goals. For now, the klatsch is there as a sort of refuge. I hope you will consider joining, and invite other women editors, too, if you wish. Lightbreather (talk) 23:00, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015
How to pick up more women... | |
Hello! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. Examples include the Edit-a-thon blitz during WikiWomen's History Month and the "new articles" work underway by WikiProject Women Writers. The Wikimania talk proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! Penny, I just approved this article through AFC, but I really doubt the notability of this person given that almost all of the sources are primary sources. Discovered your blog
Hi Penny, I have just discovered your blog where you discussed contributing to WikiProject Disability, that got me thinking about how we can promote the WikiProject and its goals to people who are not currently involved. The next thought that came up was "edit-a-thon!" such as those held for women's history. As you're probably aware, the disability project has become rather quiet lately, sometimes I feel entirely alone there. Do you think an edit-a-thon is a viable way to kick-start some movement in the project? I'm thinking such an edit-a-thon could be a good fit for Disability Studies departments at universities (or even just one university at first). I have an idea for a theme for such an edit-a-thon, but first I'd like your thoughts on the viability of the idea. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:48, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Dodger67, completely agree! Thanks for visiting the blog. I love edit-a-thons. In fact, there might be a disability studies edit-a-thon in the works already for June, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Society for Disability Studies, in Atlanta this year. I've volunteered to help with a west-coast satellite event, but I haven't heard lately what's happening with that. I'll check in with the organizers--if it's happening, I'll let you and the project know, and we can promote the project and its goals through that event; if it's not happening, then I'd definitely be interested to help with a disability-themed edit-a-thon anyway.Penny Richards (talk) 13:32, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- That's brilliant! The theme idea I mentioned above - a major current "to do" priority for the project is to expand the {{Disability by country}} series of articles. These are brief overviews of the state/status of disability in each country. About half a dozen are in mainspace already with a few more in draftspace (see Category:Draft-Class Disability articles). An editathon that concentrates on creating as many of the ~200 such articles that don't exist yet would be wonderful, but any editathon that raises the profile of the topic (and the WikiProject) is great! I presume it's too late to propose a major change in the theme of the June editathon, maybe one can be set up later in the year. I'm particularly keen for the article series to expand coverage outside the Anglosphere. We should really continue this conversation at WT:WikiProject Disability, so I will start the topic. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 14:09, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement
Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wales contest
Hi Penny, welcome aboard! Amazon vouchers will be sent by email, not post. It would really be no extra burden if you won one of the book prizes either as books can be bought on Amazon.com too and dispatched straight to your door. We do need participants in the actual contest so if you loves prizes go for it!! Obviously the ones contributed before April 1 though won't count in the contest itself but count towards the overall scheme.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi Penny, do you know anybody else who might be interested in the contest? Anybody who might be interested in contributing something about Welsh history or women etc?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- I'll ask around. Also, I posted the link just now to the Facebook page for the Welsh League of Southern California, that might catch someone's fancy.Penny Richards (talk) 14:31, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 7
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kathryn Woodman Leighton, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Glacier National Park and Great Northern Railroad (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Five years ago, you added a category to the Edith Balfour Lyttelton article, and it's either wrong, or the article doesn't give the necessary context. I wonder whether you can help. Schwede66 04:23, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Dear fellow Wikipedian, I would like to personally invite you to the March edition of the Wik-Ed Women meetup, which will take place on March 15, from 6-10 in the evening. It will occur at Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, 2245 E Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90021 (downtown LA -- map). The building has a pink top with old signage for American Accessories, Inc. dba Princess Accessories (Photos [PDF]). There is on-site parking in the back, which also has an entrance. If you cannot attend in person, you are more than willing to work remotely, as we appreciate all help that you can provide. Finally, here is a link to the Facebook event, in case you want to invite friends, as we are always looking for new editors to help expand coverage of women on Wikipedia! I hope to see you there! Looked like a very notable woman, it's on the women biographies list and in the national dictionary. Though it might interest you. I think she also has an entry in the Oxford Dictionary. Do you have access to that?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:53, 1 April 2016 (UTC) Minnie Pallister just needs a citation for personal life.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Good job on that. 20 points now for any woman started as that biography list is underdeveloped! So you'll get the points for those which aren't on the list too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:06, 2 April 2016 (UTC) "Women are everywhere"Hi Penny Richard. I'm an editor of the Italian Wikipedia. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. Stub ObliterationFor this week I'm introducing a sort of game to blast away those stale old stubs with a prize at the end of it. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Stub Obliteration 2016. Expansion rules don't apply to any articles done through this, all you have to do is ensure every article you submit is minimum 1.5kb readable prose in total and adequately sourced and readable and remove the stub tag and update the project tag on the talk page. It could be that the article is 1.2kb readable prose and you simply add 0.3 kb prose and just quickly smarten up the sources and give a minor copyedit. The goal is reducing the number of stubs we have and making them more consistent, minimum start class entries. Read the top for the rules and more details and add your name to it in the style of the main entries page if you want to participate. It's open to contestants and anybody who is participating in the editathon independently. Potentially a lot of points can be earned from mass basic expansions with this!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:19, 4 April 2016 (UTC) BookHi, if you run out of articles there's File:The Heroines of Welsh History.pdf this to peruse!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:00, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

--Rosiestep (talk) 03:54, 12 April 2016 (UTC) via MassMessage Access to Loeb Classical LibraryUser:Penny Richards, I recently was approved access to the Loeb Classical Library, and was given a password, etc. When I log-in to that venue, I am still not afforded full access for reasons unknown to me. For example, when I try reading a Greek classical book, after the first paragraph or so I get a reading that says: "You've reached the page view limit for your Loeb Classical Library preview. Log In." I don't know what I should do. Can you please assist me or give me proper instructions as to what I must do to gain access to the library? Another problem I have is with the "Redeem an Access Token." What must I do there? Sincerely, Davidbena (talk) 15:25, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
