Joy Kabatsi, also Joy Kabatsi Kafura, is a Ugandan lawyer, farmer and politician. She is the State Minister for Fisheries in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016, replacing Zerubabel Nyiira, who was dropped from Cabinet.[1]

Background and education

She was born in Sembabule District, in the Central Region of Uganda. She attended the University of Dar es Salaam, graduating in with a Bachelor of Laws. Later, she obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.

Career

In the past, she was employed as Legal Counsel in the Office of the President. Immediately prior to her appointment, Kabatsi was a commercial diary farmer. She has unsuccessfully contested for the Sembabule District Women's Representative in the Parliament of Uganda, in three consecutive election cycles.[2] On 6 June 2016, she was appointed State Minister for Fisheries.[3]
