Sabrina Frederick-Traub (born 14 November 1996) is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Women's competition. She is one of the club's two marquee players for the 2017 season, alongside Tayla Harris.

Junior and state-league football

Frederick-Traub played in mixed-gender teams until the age of thirteen, when she began playing for the Peel Thunderbirds (an all-female team). She eventually progressed to the club's senior team in the West Australian Women's Football League (WAWFL).[1] In 2013, Frederick-Traub captained an Australian youth girls team on a tour of New Zealand.[2] She switched to ‹See Tfd›South Fremantle for the 2014 WAWFL season, and in 2015 and 2016 played in exhibition matches for ‹See Tfd›Melbourne against the ‹See Tfd›Western Bulldogs. She kicked three goals in the latter game.[3]

AFL Women's career

In July 2016, Frederick-Traub was selected by Brisbane as one of the club's inaugural marquee players.[4] She made her senior debut for Brisbane in round one of the 2017 season, against ‹See Tfd›Melbourne at Casey Fields.[5] She was responsible for kicking the team's first goal of the competition.[6] Frederick-Traub recorded 13 disposals, six marks, and a goal against ‹See Tfd›Greater Western Sydney in round four, for which she was nominated for the 2017 Rising Star award.[7]

Personal life

Frederick-Traub was living in Brighton, England, before she moved to Pinjarra, Western Australia, at the age of seven. Her father is of Antiguan and Jamaican descent.[3] As of 2016, Frederick-Traub was studying psychology at Murdoch University, and was part of the university's Elite Athlete Program.[8] Sabrina currently works at AFL Queensland as the Participation Programs Coordinator for Game Development.
