Juan Villoro

Hey folks,

I am a TA for a Spanish Culture and History course at Brigham Young University and I am getting familiar with the layout. The project for the class if to translate a portion of an article from Spanish to English. I chose the article on Mexican author Juan Villoro. I just translated the section on his "Interests" because it didn't appear on the English page but I wanted to let the community know that I went ahead and worked on it. I plan on making future edits and translations. ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nielshc (talkcontribs) 21:32, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Monumento de la Fundación de México-Tenochtitlan

Resolved

Is a project member able to add coordinates to the Monumento de la Fundación de México-Tenochtitlan article, or at least confirm which neighborhood applies? ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:43, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 Done —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:14, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@AlanM1: Thank you very much! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:51, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's also a question regarding the correct name and translation at Monumento de la Fundación de México-Tenochtitlan § English title? that could use some local knowledge, in case anyone is interested. Thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 14:44, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unidentified Mexico City subjects

Buildings

Does anyone happen to recognize any of the following churches buildings in Mexico City?

I'm trying to sort images in commons:Category:Buildings in Mexico City and, more specifically, commons:Category:Churches in Mexico City at Wikimedia Commons. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:39, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the first image, File:Mexico City (2018) - 154.jpg, actually is not a church, is a ZARA store in Madero Street, in dowtonwn Mexico City.--Vmzp85 (talk) 15:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Vmzp85, Ah, sorry for the confusion re: the Zara store. I knew this was not a church, but I was wondering if the building itself had a name, or was notable. There were so many historic buildings around Madero. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed User:Juanscott just tagged the first image as "La Mexicana" at Wikimedia Commons. Does anyone know if this building is notable? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:26, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Vmzp85: For the second image above (the church exterior), I took File:Mexico City (2018) - 349.jpg right before, so the church is located near Paseo de la Reforma and this building, but possibly on the opposite (south) side of the road. Any ideas? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:42, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this church is on Praga Street, near Paseo de la Reforma, at this location. I dont know the name of the church. Regards- --Vmzp85 (talk) 20:52, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Vmzp85, Huge help, thanks! @MX: Happy to know anything about this church? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ermanon: Pinging you as well, since you categorize Mexico church images at Commons often. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:56, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The first building is at Isabel la Católica and Francisco Madero Av. corner. --Ermanon (talk) 07:19, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sculptures

I'm also curious if anyone knows who these statues depict:

Thanks for any leads! ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:10, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google image search can help find other instances of an image, which may have more info. This may also reveal copyright problems. You can also find more info when there is a visible sign or plaque. This pic, with some work, can be seen to say Próspero María / Arzobispo de México / 8 de Febrero 1892 / 30 de Marzo 1908 (Prospero Maria / Archbishop of Mexico / 8 Feb 1892 / 30 Mar 1908), which links to here, etc. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 06:46, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The statue of File:Mexico City (2018) - 450 (cropped).jpg is the Mother's monument. If you send the locations of the other images, I can help you more. Regards.--Vmzp85 (talk) 15:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for identifying the Mother's Monument -- I'd be happy to create a stub, but do you think "Mother's Monument" is the most appropriate title for English Wikipedia? As for the locations of the other churches, your best bet might be to actually take a quick look at this gallery to see images of nearby locations. I kept all images in chronological order, so for example if you're trying to identify image #500, might be helpful to look at images #495-505, to see surrounding areas. Any images here without captions show subjects I am still trying to identify and categorize appropriately, and any help is much appreciated. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Source about monument?

Should there be an article for this monument in CDMX?

Can someone confirm if this source is about File:Ext. Museo Memoria y Tolerancia - 8.jpg and whether or not an article should be created for this monument? I don't speak Spanish, but I saw this statue in Mexico City and wondered if an article is needed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:18, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Another Believer: It seems like it's not. This other source similar to yours has an image showing the monument. The sources you and I shared describe the monument as a placa (plaque), not a statue (like the image). It does seem to be the same building/area though... not sure how accurate the image description is. My best bet would be to ping Mexico City editors... MX () 14:23, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • MX, Thanks for replying. Yes, I'm confused because I'm trying to find info on the statue and I seem to be finding mention of the plaques/ flagpole/ plaza. Perhaps the monument is not notable enough for an article? I'm not sure which editors live in Mexico City specifically, hence my note here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Another Believer: Wikipedians from Mexico City can be found here (just make sure check if they were recently active). For Wikipedians interested in Mexico City, you can find them here. I don't feel qualified to answer your question regarding the notability of the monument, but if it received significant coverage beyond its initially inauguration, I don't see why not.
