When to use

A user should place this tag on their Userpage to self-identify as having a conflict of interest ("COI") with regard to up to nine existing Wikipedia articles. It should be placed there by the user themself rather than by another editor who may have identified the user as having a conflict of interest, though anyone may place this tag. Placing this tag on a user's Userpage will satisfy the requirement of the WP:COI section "How to disclose a COI." If a user has conflicts of interest with more than nine articles, please insert a second copy of this template on the Userpage listing the additional articles.

If the user has also made any significant contributions to a COI article (i.e., any contribution above the level of correcting layout, style, or grammar problems), then they should place the {{Connected contributor}} tag on the Talk page of that article. Please view the documentation for that tag in order to implement it correctly. Note that the {{Connected contributor}} tag is not necessary if no actual significant contributions to a COI article have yet been made.

The {{Connected contributor}} tag is not an alternative to the use of the {{UserboxCOI}} tag; both tags should be used when a user declares a COI and also makes a significant contribution to an article on the list. If a user's Talk page has been tagged by another editor with the "user warning-COI" template {{uw-coi}} to warn the user of a possible conflict of interest, that template and all of its associated text may be freely removed if this template is subsequently placed on the user's Userpage.

This tag does not need to be substituted—it can and should be used as is, without the subst: prefix.

Single article example

If you have a conflict of interest to declare regarding a single article, copy and paste the following into your user page and replace "First Wikipedia article title" with the title of the article:
