[edit]

Hello, I am new to Wikipedia and was wondering how one can upload a photo to a Infobox. Is there a way to submit one and have someone upload it? I hope you have a great day :)

Best, Sarevat96 Sarevat96 (talk) 02:41, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Sarevat96: If the photo is under a compaitable copyright license (that is, a copyright license that allows people to modify and sell the photo as long as they attribute you), or is under public domain, you can actually already donate it to Wikimedia Commons. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:16, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Musheiz

[edit]

Hi I dream of horses, I'm trying to create a wiki entry about my friend and teacher James Menzel-Joseph. This is the first wiki page I've ever made. I think I made the changes that you asked for, and I think I reviewed the citation rules correctly, and added information about a pretty major solo exhibit he did in Chile in 2015. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to ping you, or message you, or if you were automatically notified after I made the corrections. Sorry, if this message is unnecessary.

Thank you, Abe Musher-Eizenman

Added Sources and Edits

[edit]

Yesterday, I added quite a few more sources that discussed the individual directly, such as an article which mentioned a break-up of the family business with his brother, as well as a biography of his brother George, and several more articles discussing the fact that he tends to receive massive amounts of funding from Greater China, etc. Most importantly, I believe it's the material from his brother which helped add depth, however.

Chris has led the business and is one of the most prolific real estate developers in New York, but his younger brother talks to the press more often, which led me to locate those sources. I have an interest in Sino-American issues, and have contributed to edits in this field before, but this is my first full Wikipedia page I've done from scratch.

Apologies if I've made any mistakes in formatting, and I appreciate your advice and correction! Kches16414 (talk) 14:53, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kches16414: With some exceptions (i.e., someone writing press releases, etc.), the more one talks to the press, the more likely they'll get a Wikipedia article. If you aren't successfull with getting Charles an article, perhaps you'll be more successfull with George.
I'm sure Charles is, in fact, prolific, regardless of whether or not an article ends up in mainspace.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 18:34, 3 May 2019 (UTC) (fixed ping at 23:50, 3 May 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – May 2019

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.

Arbitration

  • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
  • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

Poetry of James VI and I

[edit]

I'm moving this back to draft space. It's not a WP article. The text of the poems belongs in Wikisource; a referenced discussion of them, with some text example, mwould be appropriate for WP. DGG ( talk ) 04:32, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi I dream of horses,

Thanks for your review of my page for Jenkem Magazine. You marked my username as potentially problematic. I just made it that because I like skateboard magazines, not because of any affiliation with the one I made. But I can change it if need be.

Lou "SkateZINE".

@SkateZINE: Well, I suppose your username is okay, technically, but it was/is a bit confusing. If you want (and eventually, you might), you can go here to change it, but I don't think you have to.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 15:37, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A message from Smalltownwiki

[edit]

Hi, I dream of horses. I submitted three articles for review today, and one was declined with the memo:

This appears to be a duplicate of another submission, 0xcert, which is also waiting to be reviewed. To save time we will consider the other submission and not this one.

Please note that the 0xcert Protocol is not a duplicate, since the article titled 0xcert is about a company, whereas 0xcert Protocol is about a theoretical protocol for communication of smart contracts and their elements (particularly non-fungible tokens) on the blockchain, and this article about the protocol was submitted before the one about the company.

Since I cannot change the title of the 0xcert article, I neither can resubmit the 0xcert Protocol for review.

I'd like to kindly ask you to review the 0xcert Protocol article, as it is not a duplicate of any other article nor draft on Wikipedia.

Thank you very much for your understanding, I'm at your disposal if you have any further questions. Smalltownwiki (talk) 18:51, 11 May 2019 (UTC) Smalltownwiki[reply]

@Smalltownwiki: Actually, you can resubmit it, explaining that actually, they're not one and the same; however, the content in the 0xcert Protocol draft can be shortenend and then merged into the 0xcert draft, which is better sourced, anyway.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:53, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Islami Salami

[edit]

Of course it's a blatant hoax. Isalami Salami mainly incorporates elements of drone and sound-sculpture into their music, which is largely composed by Alizahd on a Roland D-52 whilst the other members watch, frequently doing nothing other than providing various aspects of support that are in line with Quaranic teachings. Muhmed Reeza provides the band's signature vocals, which are sung in Farsi and reversed in post-production. and Internationally, the band is famous for only one song, namely 'Count Your Blessing, Count Your Cattle', which captured the attention of Rust-Belt farmers before they realized the band did not have their best interests at heart. Initially, most Americans thought the song was song by an Appalachian man and where quickly shocked to discover the band's origins. is pretty funny stuff, but you don't have to google the 'group' or the song to know it's farce and not Farsi [1]. A message from Oxana Smacheluk

[edit]

Hi! And thanks for your message and moving the article to the proper place. I am quite new in this, and still have a lot to learn. Also, if the article is approved, I will be thankful to anyone who can help me with inserting pictures into it. I've contacted the artist I wrote about, and he sent me the photos he allows to be published, but I haven't yet figured out how to do this. Could you please advise? Thanks again. Oxana Smacheluk (talk) 06:06, 13 May 2019 (UTC)Oxana Smacheluk[reply]

@Oxana Smacheluk: You can donate partially copyrighted/non-copyrighted material to our sister site, the Wikimedia Commons immediately. Basically, if a picture can be modified and/or sold with attribution, you can upload it there. It's rare that the English Wikipedia uses fair-use images, which are directly uploaded to Wikipedia. If you want to contact people who may know more about this sort of thing, you can go to Wikipedia:Contact us/Licensing.
Needless to say, my advice is to not worry about images until after the draft is accepted. Doing so can be a bit tricky legally, and it's best to concentrate on improving the draft for now.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 06:21, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear I Dream of Horse,

I am getting in touch because I noticed that you have edited the Global Fashion Group (GFG) entry, albeit once, and for typos. My name is Marshall Manson and I currently work for the communications advisory firm Brunswick, and I am a signatory of the commitment from PR firms not to edit Wikipedia entries directly. I am acting today on behalf of our client GFG.

I was hoping you might be willing to consider and perhaps address some factual points that we’ve noticed. (I have previously tried to engage another editor who was more active on the page, but it appears that she has reduced her Wikipedia activity in recent months.) There have been some changes in the company, including the recent sale of Namshi, meaning some of the information is no longer accurate. I’ve listed some suggestions here, and included citations in case that’s helpful.

1. The recent sale of one of the regional businesses has some impact on the accuracy of the page as it stands. The introductory paragraph states that ‘GFG operates across 24 countries’. As the number of markets changes reasonably often, it might be easier to say that 'GFG operates across 4 continents.' This is confirmed on the GFG website here. To add clarity and consistency, this should also be updated in additional sections on the page, e.g. in the Geographical operations and presence section changing from five regional companies to four, removing Namshi from the summary box, and moving the partnership on Namshi with Emaar Malls from the Strategic Partnerships section to the Divestments section.

2. The first paragraph features Patrick Schmidt as the current CEO for the Iconic. This is no longer accurate, as Erica Berchtold was appointed as CEO last October. A source for this can be found here. Patrick Schmidt is the Chairman of THE ICONIC. Please find the source for this here. Patrick Schmidt is no longer based in Singapore, he is currently in Sydney. Unfortunately, we do not have a citation for this.

3. In the Geographical operations and presence section, the number of active customers could be updated to 11.4m to reflect 2018 figures, cited here.

4. Also in this section, the entry states that the company is headquartered in Singapore and London. The firm is registered in Luxembourg but doesn’t have a global HQ per se. We don't have a strong citation for this one, but suggest we simplify it just to say registered in Luxembourg.

5. The section on Business Figures could also be updated to reflect the latest financial results. In February, GFG reported net revenue of €1.15bn with a revenue increase of 18.9% (source). The chart in the business figures section goes up to the FY 2017 figures, so with the data in above, you could update to reflect FY2018. Also, the reported EBITDA margin improved on a proforma basis by 4.6 percentage points to negative 4.3 percent. (Source)

6. We also suggest updating the number of brands GFG works with from 3,000 to 10,000. GFG have also reported to have over 10,000 employees. Here we lack a good third-party source for these points, but the figures for employees and brands can be found on the corporate website.

7. In the call out box on the right, we think it would be clearer and more accurate to say that GFG was founded in 2011.

8. Finally, lamoda is a proper brand name with a lowercase 'l,' so would it be possible to change instances in the entry where is appears 'Lamoda' to 'lamoda'?

I very much appreciate your considering this request. I hope it comes across clearly that we offer these only as suggestions in the spirit of making the entry more accurate and, in one or two cases, a bit clearer. Please do let me know if you have any questions. Tmmanson (talk) 08:24, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tmmanson: Try using {{request edit/significant}} on the talk page. That way, you can attract someone who is active and knowledgable about this sort of situation.
Thank you for signing that commitment by the way.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:41, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.18

[edit]

Hello I dream of horses/2019,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Is it possible to have two names as author of the wikipedia page.

[edit]

Dear 'I dream of horses" Thank you for your email explaining that you will be reveiewing the Wikiepedia page on Tony Russell my father and that you will let us know if it is ready to be published. I have a question. My sister Tracy Russell started to create the wikipedia page and I Anita Russell have complted it. Is it possible for both our names and conact emails to be connected with this document. In this case anyone who wants to contact us about the wikepedia page about my father can contact either one of us or both. Kind regards Anita TracyRussell (talk) 14:41, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TracyRussell: Is this a shared account? That isn't allowed on the English Wikipedia (or, indeed, on most websites I know of).
If this happened on Wikipedia, the two account names would show up on the page history; otherwise, you'd have to give credit on the talk page.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:36, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
