Chlef (Arabic: الشلف) is a city in Algeria. It is the capital of Chlef Province. About 180,000 people live there. It was founded in 1843 as Orléansville, on the ruins of Roman Castellum Tingitanum. The city is known for its football club called ASO Chlef.
