I’m the author of 5 historical novels. I’ve written (and had published) short stories, essays, and book reviews. I've taught writing workshops for several writers guilds and for Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. I'm the mother of two sons, the grandmother of one grandson, and the daughter of a World War II veteran who recently passed away at age 88. I have a cat and a significant other. I am an avid watcher of birds, the weather, and the political goings-on in Washington, D.C. And I'm a bottomless well of spotty information on history and the meaning of life. ...more

Meaning of life - there is no meaning. The universe exploded and planets whirled up out of the mass of particles, carbon splattered the masses, and some of it, like on Earth became life. Purpose on the other hand, The Purpose of Life is what each of us makes of it. We find our own purpose, either by creating it ourselves or manufacturing it innately. But neither meaning nor purpose are tangible things that can be held in our hands. We find meaning and purpose for our individual lives, to our own satisfactions.(less)

"Sunday Morning Coming Down"

Today is the 6-month mark since I lost Wayne. In some ways it might as well have been 6 years. I think of all he's missed in that 6 months. A lot of it has happened right here, in what was supposed to be our retirement home. All the things he hoped for us here have come to pass, and it makes me sorry he hasn't been here to realize it along with me. Even more than me, he was excited about moving he

“And I don't believe in such a thing as "happily ever after". There's only happily every now and then. I find the hardest trick is to recognize the now-and-thens, and to bask in them when they come. Happiness is a choice we make, like how to wear our hair, or having coffee with breakfast and tea at night.”
Cindy Bonner, The Passion of Dellie O'Barr

“I turn sentences around. That's my life. I write a sentence and then I turn it around. Then I look at it and turn it around again...”
Philip Roth, Ghost Writer

“If you cannot read all your books...fondle them---peer into them, let them fall open where they will, read from the first sentence that arrests the eye, set them back on the shelves with your own hands, arrange them on your own plan so that you at least know where they are. Let them be your friends; let them, at any rate, be your acquaintances.”
Winston S. Churchill
