The hunt is on.

Pretty young men and women like Michael's best friend, Scary Mary, are disappearing from underground goth clubs all over Detroit. For over two years, Michael has been scouring the midwest for buried newspaper articles and obscure medical reports, and now he's finally pinpointed the source of the problem. Too bad he can't exactly go to the cops and tell them his friend was murdered by vampires. Since it's his duty to start wiping out the scourge, he's posing as bait—and he's got a bag of sharpened hickory stakes to do the job.

Everything should go smoothly, given the amount of preparation that Michael has put into the hunt. He's got a practiced repertoire of come-hither eyeliner looks and a full blister-pack of the date rape drug Rohypnol. But he didn't count on Wild Bill showing up.

Wild Bill is a vision in spiked hair and scuffed black leather—exactly the type of guy Michael would have fallen for…if he'd ever had the chance. Unfortunately, with a vampire in his sights, Michael has no time for an actual date. Despite his best efforts, it seems there's nothing Michael can do to shake Bill loose. Looks like they're in for a wild, wild ride.

Michael is sitting in a bar awaiting the vampire he spent two years tracking. There’s no way that a hot little number with bleached blond hair who calls himself Wild Bill is going to distract him from his mission.

Though Wild Bill is persistent, Michael rebuffs him and suddenly is face to face with his vampire. As Michael is getting ready to leave the bar with the seductive vampire, Gray, Wild Bill decides to intervene.

“I had dibs on Michael,” said Bill. This was news to me. “But I might be willing to share.”

And share they do. While Michael is figuring out a way to finish the vampire permanently, the men’s blazing sex is heating up my Kindle.

I enjoyed reading Michael’s perspective of events, his thoughts, his sexual desires, and loved the dialogue between the characters. There are a few surprises and twists that keep things really interesting.

This is a short, humorous, erotic story that is just enough to hook me in and buy the rest of the series so I can learn more about these characters and see what the future has in store for them.

Goth Clubs, and Vampires, and Three-Ways! OH MY!
Mallet? Check. Wooden stake - hickory, of course? Check. Crucifix? Well, yeah. Like five of those. Rohypnol? Check. Holy water? Check. Eyeliner? Check.

Yeah, eyeliner. It looks good on me. Scary Mary used to say that...
You can't help but feel a bit sorry for Michael - he's just a goth kid looking to avenge the death of his best friend, but nothing seems to be working out the way he imagined it.

Somehow all his carefully laid plans go awry and he's wrapped up in the middle of an impossibly hot three-way with a vampire and a complete stranger.

This is the introduction to Channeling Morpheus.
We meet Michael, who had the sole POV of this dark and sexy tale.
We learn about Scary Mary and why Michael decided to take up Vampire hunting.
And most importantly, we meet Wild Bill...

This book was ridiculously, unapologetically HOT.
Listening to this story on Audiobook is like having the sex injected into your brain...

I have no idea where this series is going, but I'm happy to be along for the ride!

I was halfway through this before I realized Bill shares a name with my father. I don't know, one second I wasn't thinking about it, the next I was and it was just...ew. After that I repeated "his name is WildBillWildBillWildBill!" about 10 times in my head. It seems to have gotten me past the epic grossness.

Other than that, it was...

Michael sets out to kill the vamp that murdered his BFF Mary.

Problem is there's a slight distraction in the form of one hot tattooed, blonde, bad boy.

Michael gets his guy(s) in more ways than one. I know you know exactly what I mean. Unf.

THAT is one hot vampire PWP for you! And with a little twist too, didn't see that one coming. Surprisingly there wasn't . Intriguing characters, I'm thirsty for more!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Sooooo... PWP, huh?

I have to admit that the first time I came across that three letter abbreviation I had to Google it... Don't judge okay, GR is filled with these fuckers. It's like learning a new language.

IMO, BR a PWP book is not TMI and I refuse to DNF or I will LMAO, IYKWIM! <--LOL!

“He was…amazing. Tall and lean, with ripped up jeans and spiked blond hair, earrings and a snake tattoo on his neck and chipped black nail polish. …”

“He was so hot he was incandescent.”

And he “had the balls to call himself Wild Bill …”

Oh boy, oh man, oh my god …. I think I’m this close to falling in love with Wild Bill. His confidence and sexual allure is freaking magnetic.

I never expected this short to be so damn sexy. What a scene, what delicious mystery and how addictive! Gah ...I want Wild Bill!

Michael is just as gorgeous and he feels the same way about Bill, it's through his eyes that we see and feel Bill. Michael is seeking vengeance for Scary Mary's murder and this beautiful goth boy is smart enough, brave enough and patient enough to pull it off.

This is short but a great, smutty and compelling start to the series ...I'm excited!

A vampire hunter walks into a bar.

Well, actually it's more of a club. The sort where you dance really close to people you might end up having sex with.

It's convenient to know what the vampire you're hunting looks like, otherwise complications may ensue, such as ending up having a threesome and not knowing which person to stake.

I was extremely impressed by how Price managed to keep this both erotic and funny, not just in the same story, but simultaneously. That balance can't be easy.

I'll definitely read more of the series. I didn't figure out what Morpheus was from this story.

The first story in the "Channeling Morpheus" series. This is a short ebook about a guy who wants to kill a vampire but even though the vampire does get killed, things don't go according to the plan - basically a short PWP with a threesome. I would have preferred a little more plot and little less sex, to be honest, but the characters - Michael and Wild Bill - are interesting. The introduction to "PsyCop", another series by Price, was much more fascinating.

A hot, short story that is mostly sex, but hints at a backstory and vampire-world-building that is very well done. As always, JCP can write both a hot scene and characters I want to follow. This would be less satisfying as a stand-alone than as part of a series.

Total PWP, but an interesting start to the series. Gray didn't seem like a monster, though, so I have to admit that I'm a little torn about the ending.

This is the Second Electronic Edition of Payback: Channeling Morpheus 1.

If you own the first edition ebooks, there's no need to purchase the second edition. The main differences are new cover art, new typesetting, and small editorial changes (which are also contained in the paperbacks).

About this story:
How strange to think this story is going into its second edition already! I had originally intended Payback to be a standalone piece, but Changeling Press encouraged me to make it a series. I’m glad I did, because over the course of ten novelettes, I dug a lot deeper into both Michael and Wild Bill than I ever imagined I would.

My favorite things about Michael are the contradictions in him. He’s both tough and vulnerable...and throughout the series I think he gets even tougher, and even more vulnerable. He’s very smart, but he follows through on some delightfully stupid ideas that only a twenty-one-year-old would ever entertain.

Wild Bill is mainly about language. He’d based on a guy I dated who used words in the most interesting way. It was actually daunting slipping into his head for every other book in the series—not because he’s scary, ’cos he’s really a pussycat. But just wondering if I’d be up to the challenge of having him think the same way he talked, and whether it would make sense to anyone but me. That’s coming up in the next novelette, Vertigo: Channeling Morpheus 2.

Its basically just one big threesome. Too trashy and pointless to be sexy.

5/13/12 ETA: So apparently I hated this story when I first read it, but for some reason I decided to come back and give the second story a try. Immediately, I was obsessed with Wild Bill and Michael and couldn't quit until I had finished the series. Maybe I just had to be in the right mood for them?? This has since become one of my favorite series and one of my favorite couples of all time!

Review posted at Brief Encounters Reviews. In conjunction with BER's week of Channeling Morpheus reviews, here is Part One and Part Two of our interview with Jordan Castillo Price.

Note: This was my second read of the series, the first of the 2nd edition.

Michael has a date with a vampire and has checked his list twice — stake, crucifix, Rohypnol, Holy water, and oh yeah — eyeliner. He’s on a vigilante crusade to dole out justice for his best friend’s death, Scary Mary, and on any other night he’d welcome the attentions from the hot guy looking for a light and taking up everyone’s attention at the bar, but he’s looking for a very specific person — or vampire. He’s nervous, but determined. As the seduction he’s set in motion finally begins to work, Mr. Hot and Popular from the bar just won’t seem to stop vying for his attention, and as such, they both find themselves with the vampire in a seedy motel room.

From the moment Wild Bill sidles up to Michael at the bar and casually calls him Michael, Michael, Motorcyle, this story just takes off and doesn’t let up. I remember when I read this for the first time, devouring it three times in one sitting because not only did it have the hottest m/m/m menage encounter I’d read, but also such a unique and uncomfortable one. Michael is there to avenge the death of his best friend Scary Mary, who was killed by Ambrose Gray, and the charismatic bad boy Wild Bill, who seems to be having the most relaxed fun of all of them, even while Michael is simultaneously mentally shooing him away and stuck in his sexual thrall. Right away, I could see that there’s something inexplicably there between Michael and Wild Bill, that I couldn’t wait to get more of.

As the very first story of the series, Payback is different from the rest in a lot of ways, mostly in that the relationship between the two main characters is still floundering and awkward, but already having a strong connection. This story is what makes me excited to read the rest whenever I pick up this series. This story sets the tone for the others without expense to them because, like in all great stories, we learn and grow about the world through the characters, which makes this first story like first fumblings of an awkward and edgy youth, full of promise and excitement and incredibly new in experience. The more I read it, I never lose that feeling, and that has to be a testament to JCP’s skill as an author. This might be a story about vampires and the world inhabiting them, but it is real in a way that most fiction isn’t by focusing a lens on details that seem purposefully gritty or mundane.

There is a ton of great things to talk about when it comes to the relationship between MIchael and Wild Bill, as well as their personal lives, but I’ll save those for later reviews since Payback doesn’t deal with them much. This is one of my all time favorite stories, as well as series and characters, so I’m very much looking forward to tackling the rest of the series and getting to write about them this time I urge you to pick up this story if you haven’t yet read this series, or if you’re a fan like me, to pick it up again just because. A+ for sure!

Michael was so cute with the way he was trying to be a bad ass vampire hunter.

Very promising beginning of the series. I enjoyed it a lot, even though I DON'T like vampire stories.
Payback's told from Michael's point of view- the way he sounds is very different from how Price's other characters in other books sound...
But that's what makes the author great- she shows different character perspectives as if different people wrote them.

On to the next one.

Oh, and - Wild Bill, y'all !!

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Michael's on the hunt for the vampire who killed his best friend when he stumbles across the most amazing man he's ever seen. What's a newbie vampire hunter to do? Why, take both men to bed, of course, and hope an opportunity for revenge arises.

As usual with everything I've read from this author, this was well written and flows along quite nicely. Since it is fairly short, there isn't much character development or plot yet, but what there is was promising and I enjoyed the unexpected actions from one of the characters at the end.

I could have used a little more clarity that Gray was indeed the vampire that killed Michael's friend. . I may have a bit of a soft spot for vampire-like-creatures named Gray.

I read more for plot than for sex, so in that regard this book didn't blow me away. Despite mostly being a sex scene, I found it interesting enough that I'll try the next one, but I'm not certain I'm hooked yet.

This story is too short to know if the two main characters will be my fav characters of a serie.

This story is too short to say if there is or not a good plot

This story is too short to write a long reviews saying the good and bad parts of it

BUT this story is NOT too short to conclude I want to read more... I'm hooked... want to know everything about the vampire and the human that cross their path in this story.
