“I don’t know what’s happening, but I think I’m seeing things. I hope I’m seeing things. Please tell me I’m seeing things.”

That took a darker turn than I was expecting...

Getting to see some characters from the main book series as Yana and the Herald at work here was quite an interesting tie-in.

Of course, as anything to do with this whole conflict, this was terrifying and high-stakes, and I hope things won't end in disaster.

“Vildar… Do me a favor and pull yourself together, huh? I don’t know what’s happening but I think I’m seeing things. I hope I’m seeing things. Please tell me I’m seeing things.”

Vildar Mac and Tey Sirrek have reached the hidden Jedi vault. What they witness there is beyond their worst nightmares: a strange beast with the power to disrupt the Force, feeding on Master Leebon, turning them to dust.

This issue had some delightfully creepy stuff. Cavan Scott is great at writing horror and knowing how much he loves it, it always makes me happy to see him get to really flex those horror writing muscles and do some absolutely creepy shit. The art was also brilliant and added so much to the horror vibes of this issue! The Nameless are terrifying and strange and alien and fascinating, and I'm so happy we're getting to see them in action and all their glory in the comics.

Tey and Vildar are a fun duo and I'm loving seeing them firmly on the same side and fighting together. Seeing how much they care about each other even though they have their clashes when it comes to how things should be done and their chosen paths is rewarding after so many issues, and yeah, I just think they're really cute. Seeing more of Yana Ro, and seeing her act as the voice of reason to the Herald and trying to stop unnecessary bloodshed was intriguing, as she is both a warrior and someone with a more empathetic side.

I'm eager to see how this story will end!

“Path of Vengeance” pretty much gives away everything that is going on here, but from the perspective of a different character. The comic is still great, but I have to admit the knowledge of what is going to happen takes the element of surprise.

Overall, I liked The High Republic #9 a lot, even if the action was a bit too chaotic for me at times and the overlap with the novel Path of Vengeance takes away the tension from the story. Nevertheless, fans of these characters will have a blast with this issue and root for them until the end.

Sometimes the visually-driven nature of comics clarifies plots, and sometimes it muddies them.

The way I got scared for Vildar possibly dying, then scared as Vildar wields the dark side... Scary and also a bit hot ngl.

Tey tho, I love that little chaos with a big heart.

The art returned to form in issue #9 to match the tone set by issues #1-6!

Matty quickly became one of my favorite characters and it was great seeing her take charge at Enlightenment to deal with the approaching droids!

Vildar using the Hand of Siberus was unexpected.
