Sylvia yearns to feel loved and cherished by her husband, Wilson—just like the heroines in the romance novels she reads. She begins making changes, but her husband just isn’t getting the message. So she starts a Proverbs 31 makeover. Wilson is totally confused by his wife’s strange behavior and frustrated by the timing. Business is booming and he’s up for a promotion. When Sylvia plans a big anniversary party, things start spiraling out of control. Can he and Sylvia rekindle the romance, or is too little too late?
An okay read for me. I liked the premise of the story, and I thought it was unique. The book itself fell a bit flat for me. I really wanted to shake Wilson and knock some sense into him. The end seemed rather anticlimactic for me. After all the angst of the book, everything was wrapped up too quickly in my opinion. I liked Sylvia and thought she was a good character, and their boys were adorable.
It was a nice romance with a Christian touch. There were issues of busy husbands, wives feeling out of the loop, aging parents. The last chapter was not necessary and confusing. At the first of the chapter Simon says his parents are in Italy and at the end he is excited to play hoops with his dad that night...
I really enjoyed this book! I found it for 3 dollars at dollar general, so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! This book pulled me in and kept me there. I really think it's under appreciated.
Really enjoyed this book and the storyline. A good reminder about how work and raising children can take over marriage life and leave people disconnected. Very relevant to life today.
I was looking forward to reading this one. I don’t read a lot of books where the couple are already married, and have been for awhile. In this case Sylvia and Wilson have been married for ten years and are in kind of a rut. At least Sylvie feels like they are in a rut and wants to do something to change things up. She meets with her three best friends and comes up with a plan to put the scripture Proverbs 31 into action. The scripture describes what it takes to be a good wife. Each week Sylvia takes one aspect of the scripture and tries to apply it to her marriage. Which to me sounded like a fun premise.
I think part of Sylvia’s problem is she spent more time talking about her marriage with her friends than with her husband. They didn’t have very good communication. Wilson seemed like a pretty decent guy and was obviously in love with Sylvia, I’m sure he would have been willing to have more open conversations. Sylvia was also kind of negative. When they would spend time together she focused more on what went wrong then on what went right. Again, I think a lot of her problems go back to her and her lack of communication. As for her resolutions, they weren’t really explored as much as I would like. She would try something like once a week, instead of doing a daily type thing. As the story progressed it seemed like that aspect of the story was kind of forgotten.
Another problem I had with the book was Wilson’s character. At first I was glad we were going to hear things from his POV, I thought it’d be fun to see his reaction to all the new things Sylvia was doing. But we NEVER got to see that. He never noticed anything and after awhile it seemed like her resolutions were kind of forgotten. After awhile Wilson’s POV got kind of boring. I didn’t really want to hear about all his work stuff, at least not all the time. The ending also really bugged me. It seemed like Wilson’s decision still had more to do with work than with family. I felt like he didn’t really learn anything. I also felt like Sylvia hadn’t really changed that much either and I was left thinking their relationship was about the same as when the book started. I really wanted to see some growth and I didn’t see much.
Overall, I thought it was enjoyable (maybe a little boring) and kept me reading, but I probably wouldn’t re-read it. It was interesting to see things from a couple that have been married for awhile with kids.
Content: Clean. Heavier on the Christian elements.
Hott Synopsis: It’s like he doesn’t even see me anymore… I can’t remember the last time we talked about something other than the kids… It’s like we’re roommates instead of a couple… Sylvia’s happy with her life. Mostly. She loves her husband and her kids. But there is something missing. Her husband just doesn’t seem to notice her. But does Sylvia whine about it? No! She calls a team meeting with her best friends and together they go to the instruction manual – the Bible. What wonderful – and hilarious – things God has in store for her marriage when she follows His plan!
Hott Review: What I liked: I really enjoy these books about people who’ve been married to each other for years. It’s such a rare trait and even rarer plot that I can’t help but to grab these. This particular book focused on becoming a Proverbs 31 woman and even though it wasn’t preachy I couldn’t help but to take it to heart – so many of the experiences are what we deal with every day. What I didn’t like: While I really liked the characters I felt that Sylvia was a lot to live up to.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. I thought the character development was well done. You could really see the main characters personality through the conversations written. What I did not like was the overly dramatic soap opera like story line. It just felt like a fake book. I like to read a book where you put it down feeling like the characters could be real people. I just could not relate to the women in this story. I am not saying don’t read this book just that it was not to my personal liking.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
This was a pretty good story. I didn't fully connect with either of the main characters, maybe that's why I didn't give it five stars. I liked seeing both Wilson and Sylvia grow. I especially enjoyed the scenes with Sylvia and her girlfriends studying Proverbs 31. All in all, this was a nice story.
An authentic story about a marriage that had lost it's romantic feel and Wilson's career is threatening everything while Sylvia is trying to live according to Proverbs 31. This story is believable but not very suspenseful.
This is a great read. It draws from Proverbs 31. It gives a great insight to Proverbs 31. I enjoyed the story line. It moves fast. I was anxious to see what the author had for each verse of Proverbs 31. I would recommend this read to all women!
