boy, re-reading this book from 1984 really brought home the diffeences between the world now and the way things were espcially for women back in the 80's. the heroine is a widow who is keeping her child's existence secret because she is afraid she will be fired from her job i they know she has a child. of curse, today it's illegal to evensuggest that, but back then...it just presents a rather interesting look into what used to be expected of women, and reminds us of how far we've come, and how much farther we have yet to go!
