The Dragonfate Games #2

Alpha Dragon's Eagle

Rate this book
Will buried secrets ruin season two of the Dragonfate Games —or will the truth set fated mates free? After a whirlwind of controversy ten years ago, Matteo was done in the spotlight—or so he thought. He dropped his stage name, iconic costume, and celebrity status to live out a humble life as a golden eagle omega. But a second chance at the Dragonfate Games makes him yearn for his fated mate... and threatens to unearth a past he abandoned long ago. Thystle's been prickly since his favorite band broke up a decade ago. As a dragon who hoards music—and an alpha who crushed hard on the lead omega vocalist—the fallout left him devastated. He's never quite gotten over TalonStorm's dissolution, but could being the "prize" of a reality TV dating show lure his celebrity crush out of hiding? When Matteo arrives on the island again, the amethyst dragon bachelor makes his heart skip a beat. But he's not alone. The other omegas competing for Thystle's love are fiercer this time around. Matteo has to fight talon and wing to come out on top... all while keeping his past under wraps. Because if the truth comes out, he may lose his chance with Thystle forever. Alpha Dragon's Eagle is a fun, sweet mpreg novel with low angst and high stakes! Reading the series in order is recommended. No cheating, and fluffy HEA guaranteed.

This was cute, but not really what I need atm.

I have mixed feelings in the whole I knew I was fated to him thing.

Thing is, this trope is what happened in book #1 but I loved that book better than this. That trope didn’t work here I feel like I was reading a middle part of a book even though I was just in the prologue. I like development more I think and that obviously not the case here. Basically, this story lacked of development (characters and plot) that I didn’t have anything to swoon about. And I realized by 29% this was pretty much insta love.

It’s sad that this story didn’t focus much on the Dragonfate Games like the previous one. The way they already knew they were fated before the game and there was only like 2 competition overall didn’t help. I liked it, but I didn’t enjoy this story at all. It didn’t balance out the romance and the whole Talonstorm band story overshadowed it all.

I also skimmed most of their sex scenes.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

I threw my dragon’s dignity out the window. I became something baser, a creature even more primal and crazed—a fanboy.

Another wildly entertaining book in this series. I am seriously enjoying Hawke Oakley's writing and storytelling. They're sweet and uncomplicated, fun and sweet, and hot. Matteo is a very ambitious character (tries to blow an actual dragon with a huge dong), but also likes to blend into the background. He has experienced being the center of attentio before and isn't that keen on doing it again. He just wants to find his fated mate.

Thystle is an actual emo dragon, which is both hilarious and adorable. This series is so relaxing and a nice break from reality. I'm already over halfway through book 3, and can't wait to continue. Definitely recommend.

Whoever said dragons were dignified never met a really horny one.

He angled his neck to stare at my hemipenes curiously. “So, are those going in next?” I snorted. “No.” He sounded a bit disappointed. “Why not?” “Because unless you want to turn into a Matteo-kebab, it’s physically impossible,” I explained.

“Thanks for saving my life. I was actually about to walk out into the ocean if one more stranger talked to me.”

Even my legendary whinging couldn’t stand up to the brute force of a cute baby.

El mejor hasta el momento. Me enganchó de mala manera. ¿Encima el protagonista es fan de My Chemical Romance? Ya estoy conquistada. La objetividad en este libro se ha caído por el barranco. No me arrepiento.

I listened this time. While I wish the narrator was better at distinguishing between Cobalt and Kobald, the audio is good.

So fun

I've literally just finished, so I'm processing. For Alpha's Dragon's Eagle we get to see more of the brothers and get to know them better. I have an idea for Jade and Viol now and I'm excited for book 3.
Cobalt is next!
Matteo and Thystle were adorable together with Thystle, determined that he knew who his fated was, and sure he could get him into the games.
They had instant chemistry and their dynamic was hot

I liked this book just as much as I liked the first one, and maybe even better.

Like book 1, this is very much an insta-love/fated mates story, but I found that I minded that less in this book than the last one. The characters were really fun, and I'm very much enjoying learning about the dragons' different hoards, from Saffron's suits to now Thystle's music.

The writing remains light and a lot of fun. I enjoyed the exploration of Thystle and Matteo's characters in this, and it was nice seeing how different they are from Saffron and Taylor. While the formula of the books remains the same, the characters are unique, and I enjoyed that fact. The dynamic between Thystle and Matteo was cute, and the chemistry between them was scorching. And the smut scenes were great, as per usual.

I also enjoyed learning more about Viol in this book. I'm really interested to see where the overaching plot of this series goes, and I'll definitely be back for the next book! (can't wait, given the hint we got with that name!)

4/5 stars for me on this one!

The people Who are watching that TV reality show must all be hopeless romantics, because that show doesn't have intrigue or Edge. I think That's good because then the book is not full of ups and downs and you can just relax.

They Will also believe they are rigged because OMG. The quizz test?? Like Thystle in not famous how are they going to know things about him?? It is so clerlay unfair, I know there ara YouTube videos and articles about the fraude of the dragonfate games. I imagine that the rest of shifters Will get that It is just fated mates and all that and you can't love anybody else, and Will totally get the feeling, but the humans?? For them the show is probably kinda boring and rigged.

Well ,to end, I really liked Viol in the last scenes I demand his book now. And with Poppy or I Will sue.

Pd: This is the second time in a year that I read something where Dragons have 2 dicks. Where is this idea from? Is this something widely accepted about Dragons?
Also, there was some kind of bestiality in this book and I am going to erase that from My mind, thank you.

Alpha Dragon’s Eagle was so much fun! It was ridiculous and funny and absurd in all the right ways. I loved that this was super lighthearted and fluffy. Thystle and Matteo just made my heart so happy. They were so cute together and absolutely smitten with each other! I also loved that emo music was a huge part of their story. It made my millennial emo music loving heart so happy! This is just one of those books that will leave a smile on your face. This one is getting four out of five stars and I can’t wait to read the next one!

This was so good

Okay! the dragonFate games are fast becoming one of my absolute favorite series. I loved Thystle and his backstory, I loved learning more about all the brothers, including Viol(I can't wait for his story). Matteo coming back for the second season because he knew his mate was on the island was perfect. I loved how everything came out and I can't wait to learn more about Muzo! But poor poppy what will happen to poppy?

This story was a mixed bag. On the one hand, it was great reading about Matteo's secret past as the masked rock god Aquila. Guy went to so much trouble keeping a low profile, even buying bland clothes! On the other hand, Thystle's obsession with Matteo/Aquila got annoying real fast, even creepy sometimes.

There were a bunch of things that didn't make sense, both with the competition and their stay on the island. Like the omegas keeping everyone at the hotel up with their drunken partying - and later, Thystle and Matteo having wild and screamy monkey sex at the same hotel, which is fine because the rooms are soundproof.

Not life changing stuff, just annoying. Also, I was disappointed the next book isn't about Alaric the cat shifter, since there's so much talk in this one about his personal growth and his yearning for a mate. Instead, we get one of Tyler's friends again.

Also-also, the book after that, number four, has a completely different guy as MMC. Justice for Aleric! /s

Lighthearted

While it entertained and bored me in turns, there some really good spots to balance the very cringy and slightly disturbing sex scene - you’ll know what I mean if you read it! However, Thystle was adorable, Matteo sweet and I really liked them together. Not sure If I’ll continue the series though.

the games continue!

Okay okay, I’m rather enjoying this series! I was getting a bit worried about how it would keep it fresh, like we already know what’s gonna happen; they meet their mates but still have the games anyway and try to hide it. A repeated formula can definitely kill a series, especially with 7 books planned. But I felt like book two differentiated itself from book one. The contestant drama, the character development, the way the games played out.

The drama with Talon was good, I was actively hating him at every sneaky move he made and I’m glad there wasn’t a redemption moment from him like Alaric had in book one. I don’t wanna see Talon in a future book 😂

I loved seeing bits of Taylor and Crimson as a family in this one. Muzo and Poppy continue to be fan favorites, I’m ready to see how Muzo’s wild energy claims his fated mate and I am SO ready for Poppy’s book!!!! This book really showed Alaric’s growth, I’m actually finding myself eager for his book too 🥺

The games of course still follow the same flow as before, I mean it’s a dating game show, there’s not much change you can have. But Hawke Oakley put the effort in to make them different than how they played out in the first book. A different vibe of contestants, people missing competitions, winner determination, and completely changing challenges kept it fresh.

I’m also sensing a running theme of Viol coming to the rescue and being a support system for the omegas, and I will not be mad about seeing it every single book. I am getting ticked off at the way his own brothers treat him, not once has he ever done anything that indicated he was violent towards any of them. He’s depicted as broody and intimidating, but not dangerous and harmful. They know something clearly happened to him that made him so withdrawn, but that doesn’t make him a bad person. And in both books he is an absolute sweetheart to the babies and he was kind to the omegas, especially during their egg laying so why are the brothers still acting like he was tryna do them harm????? I am so glad Matteo called Thystle out over it and continued to be openly nice to Viol. They better get it together and start treating my man Viol with RESPECT! 😤

Again like the first book, I’d just like to see more of their life together after the games. But still a good read.

Ugh, kinda wish I found this series later on since I’m already on to book three and book four isn’t out yet 😭

I like the whole idea of the series, even though love games aren't my favorite topic. But here it was cool. I liked that each brother will have his own book and that despite being a game to win the dragon's heart, it is not heavy, distressing or painful to read.

But that's it, despite all the good ideas, I didn't like the story itself, the development, the lack of creativity, the nonsense. The books are about a game to find your partner, but in reality there is almost no such game. And this isn't a ten-chapter book, so I didn't understand the lack of development, the lack of information about the characters and their families. Where are the dragons' parents? Since they are so attached to their eggs and chicks, why aren't the parents with them? I wasted precious time with internal conversations that had no basis for anything.

Each author creates their worlds with their own characteristics and ok, but here until now, the question of the predestined companion bothered me a lot. I would understand if it was said that each shifter recognizes their mate in different ways, that dragons need to touch, kiss, smell or even have sex, but that's not what happens here. They don't recognize their fated mate, no shifter does. It's more as if the game were about finding a partner, a normal love, a boyfriend or husband and not the destined love. It's very confusing and frustrating.

I liked the first book more. I thought Thystle was so immature and dull. And how he was so good at sex, since logically he never had it. What is not said, but if he never left the island and no one is allowed to enter the island. Besides he doesn't see human things to learn about it. Strange. Chemistry between the two, zero. Thystle seems more like a petulant child, in fact her four younger brothers are annoying.

I really want a Viol and Poppy book. I initially thought that Alaric's pair would be one of the twins, two snobby and annoying ones, but now I think it would be cool, Alaric and Jade, it would bring more excitement to Jade's orderly life. But I'm not holding my breath, as the first two were meh.

I have mixed feeling about this one.

After a good time with the first book, I was impatient for this one. I was wondering what would be the challenges for the second Dragonfate Games. I was totally disappointed because there was not point in doing the game when the fated pair met before the game begins. The challenges were there just to make us hate that Talon guy.

I liked Matteo, down to earth and nice former rock star. I liked the dynamic he had with Thystle, sometimes he felt more like an alpha. He always had the right words for Thystle. I think their interactions were better than the first couple. As for Thystle, I liked him… only when he was with Matteo. Otherwise he is just as annoying as his brothers. It’s frustrating because I think hardcore fanboy are cute, and the fact he met his all time favorite singer is such a nice trop. But too many time I thought he was too immature and felt like he was still seventeen. And unlike the first couple, where Crimson changed for the better with Tayler, there was no evolution with Thystle.

I still can’t stand the twins, even if Saffron got a bit better. I know people won’t agree on this but I don’t understand the hype about Viol. I don’t dislike as much as the others, but for me he’s just the typical stereotypical dark and mysterious with a twist guy. We all know that he is actually a nice but can’t show it because he was scarred 🙄 Also, I sooo don’t like his name 🥲, but that’s probably because of its meaning in my language.
Anyway, with this second book I realized the relationship between the brothers is almost non existant, but that’s probably because they are all annoying. I know they would do anything for each other but I really can’t feel it ! The only decent one are Jade and Cobalt.

To conclude, the beginning was intriguing, the alchemy between the lovers was on point, but the rest of the story was so similar with the first book I was bored. I hope the others books will be different, I want to continue the serie because I like the omegas ! I’m so curious about Alaric and Poppy, I feel like they’ll be good match for Jade and Viol.

One of the only reason im following this series is because of Viol and viol alone. I can already guess the "plot twist" about Viol and is just reading in hopes when the story reach at that point the "surprise" isnt disappointing...

One of the reason i was interested in this series cause it was different from my usual genre.
I dont usual watch dating shows in general, but to incorporate that in m/m novels? Well colored me intrigued, only to be let down by the cliche that is "fated mates".

Listen i love omegaverse and fated mates as much as the next guy, but if you're going to make a competition but already pick out a winner before it already begun then whats the fucking point.

I can already foresee cobalts and muzo's book...
The formula they're follwing is:
Mcs looks at each other once, falls in love already, goes through 2 or 3 matches but it doesnt matter anyways, Dragon alpha creeps into omegas room and fuck before the competition is even over, omega won, omega is pregante, and viol does something, then they all live happily ever after with their dragon babies. Rinse and repeat.

I just feel like filtering through until the end just to see whats Viol is up too but im afraid he might be mention somewhere in the beginning or middle of it so i dont want to miss it...oh the conundrum.

Reading through this feels like walking into an ice cream shop with your order already in mind, but torturing the workers there to let you taste every single ice cream flavour anyways.

Im starting to like this theme , the whole dating competition /reality tv show thing.
can someone please recommend me similar tropes, maybe minus omegaverse (m/m) thats written with more suspense...
MCs that doesnt sniff out the winner right away and the mc contestant that have to put actual effort into wining instead of getting an edge over everyone else right away. Where they actually build chemistry and not because of "its their instinct ".

Wow, so the 2nd addition to this series was just as great, if not a little better, than the first. I do really like the premise of the games and island as it gives more room for creativity than if they were in a human city. However there wasn't really much emphesis on the game itself as when mates meet they just know, I do think the challenges could be a little more flushed out but currently it doesn't bother me. Thystle felt fully unique from Crimson and I enjoyed the enthusiam he brought to the idea of finding his mate and the passion for his music/hoard. So far in the series our omega leads have been more on the tough, hold their own, even a little dominant side. And I LOVE it, don't get be wrong, I couldn't be more in love with our male leads but as we've now had two books in a row with similar personality types I am absolutely dying to see a softer, maybe less confident omega. Not because I think omega's should have to be weak, but just because I want to see different personality types represented....I may also be holding out hope for a Poppy x Viol pairing as I wanted them together in the first book and that urge has only gotten stronger. We see more of Viol in the end chapters here and he's quickly becoming my most anticipated dragon read. I know the next book is Colbalt and Muzo, which I am super excited for and hate that I won't get my hands on it until December. But please author, don't make us wait forever for Viol!

Overall, this is a light-hearted read that doesn't give too much angst or stress you out. No cheating, no dreaded misunderstanding trope or anything like that. The dirty talk that also happens is A+

I'm going to have to put some more time and distance between reading these books, because I found myself a little bored with this second story because of how similar the overarching story was to the first. I guess I was expecting more of a The Selection style falling in love with one person but it not being completely confirmed that that would be who you chose, just because I feel like if we just see our mate and immediately know they're the one for you, then what's the point of the games?

Thystle and Matteo were cute, and I liked how Thystle fell in love with him years ago when he was a famous singer and how Thystle just knew this was the person for him, but then never got to meet him. I kind of liked how Thystle was trying to make sure the singer he loved all those years ago was a part of his games, but also it didn't entirely make sense how he went about it all. These games were kind of messy with so many people and the wrench with Talon's presence. Thystle sleeping through one challenge and Talon inserting himself in another just felt messy and I don't know, I felt like the games should have been more organized this second time around--which, I guess they probably will be for the next one since it was finally pointed out that the challenges should have something to do with the actual dragon they're for instead of random physical challenges.

I liked Thystle's hoard being music and how close he and Matteo got over music. I liked their eagle courting ritual with the talons clutched dive. They were cute, and I liked how Matteo became friends with the other omegas. I like how mellow Alaric has become. I like Viol and can't wait to get his story.

A cute addition to this series, with the second round of the Dragonfate Games.

Thystle is the second dragon to take part in the games. He is an emo with a music hoard and is obsessed with the band Talonstorm - convinced that the lead singer, Aquila, is his fated mate and 10 years earlier he was finally given the chance to leave the island and go to their concert when the band split up - and he was devastated.

Matteo, formerly known as myiiiiiiiiii Aquila has been hiding away for the last decade but is drawn to the Dragonfate games convinced his mate is there somewhere. Upon arrival at the island, he tries to defend one of the other smaller omegas and gets 2 black eyes for his effort. But this leads to an early meeting with Thystle in the infirmary and they have an instant connection. Thystle has no idea who he is, with his black eyes, his true look is hidden.

Throughout the games they get closer, with Thystle visiting his hotel room at night for some spicy action. However one of the other contestants, another eagle is not happy and claims he is Aquila (knowing that is Thystles favourite singer) and tries to intimidate Matteo - but Thystle had already figured out the truth of Matteo’s identity and throws him off the island and out of the games.

““Thystle, if you’re weird, I don’t ever want you to be normal,” Matteo murmured.”

This was a fun story, with fated mates, amusing banter, possessiveness, spice, mpreg and of course a HEA!

Musical foreplay

The next Dragonfate games book follows Thystle, who it turns out almost left the island when he was younger to see a band that he was sure held his mate. Thystle has never moved on after that band broke up, and only is willing to go through with the games for the hope that his long ago love will show up. Matteo came to the first games to support his friend, but finds himself drawn back to the island with the surety that his mate lives there. Matteo finds conflict in the fact that he wants to find his mate, but he also wants to stay unnoticed by the cameras, a conflict that could keep him from his mate.

As with the first book this is fairly light and fluffy, though with slightly more angst based on Matteo's past and Thystle's emo thing. Also much like the first book the two get set in each other fairly quickly. The difficulty with that is that the whole 'games' bit is superfluous. As soon as the pair meet they want to only be with each other and no one else. It is rather a trend and it seems like it will make continuing on with the series this way rather hit a wall. Outside of that it is regularly a light and easy read and it is interesting to learn more about each individual dragon and their mate.

Another enjoyable installment into The DragonFate Games series. I really love how light-hearted these books are. They aren't heavy, emotional, or weighing me down with character baggage. They are the perfect, breezy, enjoyable summer read.

I wasn't expecting Thystle's book to be next but after Matteo's remarks at the end of Alpha Dragon's Tiger, it all started to make sense. Thystle is the angsty, emo boy-band groupie, a fanboy. Matteo is an interesting contrast, wannabe wallflower but destined for so much more? Matteo and his alter-ego were a delight and I loved watching him come into himself. I imagine the theme across this series will be insta-love which was definitely the case here. But I didn't hate it, it works with how quickly the story flows.

I adored how unique Thystle's horde was and how perfectly Matteo fit with him. The sexual attraction is off the charts, and there is some sizzling role-playing that happens. The biggest challenge for these characters is sneaking around to keep the farce of the games alive. But the story is so uncomplicated that you can't help enjoy how effortless finding love is for these dragons.

Cute! I generally steer clear of the celebrity trope as I REALLY don't like it, but I do like this series so I didn't let that stop me. Thystle is... not very alpha-esque, but the story was fun and I liked the continuation of the game show and got further invested in the other omegas finding their mates. One quibble: the Epilogue starts with this -

"The next morning..."

🤨😶😂

Hot Tip: "the next morning" (after the previous chapter) is NOT an epilogue 🤣🤣🤣

I'm still here for the whole series, though! It's light, fluffy, easy reading that has decent world building and an overarching series-theme that puts it a step up from a lot of the fluff in this shifter/mpreg subgenre. (And I completely understand why the author couldn't give a true epilogue - i.e. one in the future - without spoiling the upcoming books.)

I fell in love with the cover of the first book in this series and took a chance on an author I had never read before. That was the best decision ever! Book one was enjoyable and I was really excited for the rest in the series. I think I fell in love with the series even more, after reading this second book. The cover is amazing once again; the artist is truly talented. I feel like each new couple ends up replacing the previous one as my favourite. Thystle and Matteo perfectly suited each other. Their story was heartwarming, steamy and hilarious at times. I love when fated mates find their way to eachother despite everything. Some favorite secondary characters from the first novel returned, including more on page scenes with Thystle's brothers. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eagerly anticipating the next!

Impressed all over again!

Cover: 5/5 (they are so cool and I want to collect all of them!)

After the first book I worried if the entire process of the dating show would become repetitive, but happy to reveal, the author kept it new and fresh and brought in twists I didn't expect. The author has also succeeded in building up the mystery for the other dragon brothers and the excitement for their story is up! I really like how the romance and the mystery plays out, I would say the blurb does a great job in pulling in readers along with the cover. There is romance, mpreg, catty rivals, humor, sweetness and surprisingly well written smutty steamy scenes that I wasn't expecting in a fluff story like this but super happy with them-as dragons are ferocious beasts and I want to read them in their authentic glory!! This series is going great and I'm definitely hooked.

2.5/5

So, I definitely went into this one eyes wide open. Still very much insta-love, very little romance TV show. I am trying to understand how a show with 4 episodes max per season - if we count the intro session plus each of the challenges as an episode in-world - is somehow number one on streaming services? 🤔 At least the omega in this one was an egg-laying animal cause it made the whole pushing out an egg thing seem better? I'm honestly worried for Alaric whenever he gets his alpha dragon.

Final review: It is what it is 🤷🏾‍♀️

Hopes for future books:

• omega dragon (one of them should be forced to push out a giant egg)
• an explanation to exactly what Viol ever did to be considered a dangerous dragon cause we don't know
• a couple who decides to actually spend time together before uhhh making an egg
