The third & final book in the State trilogy is a worthy end to the series. Familiar characters encounter some difficult situations & the fate of many lives hang in the balance.
Iain Kelly once again takes us into his dystopian future with great ease & skill. A lot of writers could learn how to create a believable future by studying Kelly's novels.
The State trilogy may have concluded, but I eagerly await whatever Iain Kelly writes next.

What a terrific end to this dramatic futuristic trilogy! More action, more emotional stakes and this time the wrong move will not only end their lives but take a city with them.

Danny is fighting for his city and his heart, he is not a soldier but he accepts the burden of a fight because it is what’s right. Gabriella is fighting to bring down the state and the independents. She IS the soldier but she fights because it is who she is. The State wants rebel blood and they have no fear of sacrificing the innocent to do it. The independents are the same… they want to bring down the State and don’t care who gets in their way. The only ones standing between The State and the Independents are Danny, Gabriella and a their tiny force determined “regular folk.”

This is a terrific part three to this exciting trilogy. Building upon the worldbuilding of the previous books, State of War takes us beyond the city into a world of rebellious acts designed to hurt the enemy.

The truth has come out about the State’s horrendous actions in the past and war has broken out. The civilians stuck in the city are caught in the middle of this war and one man… a broken and lost man… might end up the as the final bullet that brings the State to its knees.

Full of action, intrigue and strong emotions this is an enjoyable read. There is sacrifice, noble causes and betrayal in many forms and I totally recommend it!

This was such a good tense ending to a great series. Kelly describes such wonderfully imagery of a near future police state controlled world, with two sides, one of dominance, and one of submission.
Many of his characters have a depth that can be relatable to the average person, lost, intimidation, isolation, mental health, and fear. You yearn for the heroes to win.

The narrative is well paced and not confusing, yet complex enough to have you guessing and wanting more.

Excellent writer who has a bring future!

Storytelling at its best.

I’m sad I’ve come to the end of a compelling journey with believable and loved characters. Each page is an adventure. It’s a well written trilogy that entertains, makes you think and empathise.
It feels familiar and almost real. You care about the characters and you care about their country.
I felt I had invested in a Netflix drama series. I binge read these books. Reading when and wherever I could.
I look forward to more books by Iain Kelly and maybe a TV series adapted from these books?

State of War is the third in the series and completes the story of Daniel and Gabriella and their cohorts as they struggle for right in a future tainted by madness, violence and lies. The characters are so deep, so well written, that you forget they aren’t real people and the plot moves at a quick clip. If you enjoy political thrillers filled with suspense as much as I do, don’t miss this series. I recommend starting with A Justified State and State of Denial to gather all the juicy background.

I Knew it Would End this Way

But I was still sad..
I enjoyed this trilogy I only wish I had read this third part more closely behind the second, but it didn't take long for me to remember thanks to the hints from the author.

The last book in the trilogy. Book 1 takes you to a futuristic modern state. However, just like all great civilizations the state has succumbed to its own follies. The culmination of all is the state of war. It's good to see Gabrielle back in action. Danny tries to save his city. Phillips is back. Is he the saviour or the cold blooded politician. James finally decides to stand up and that ultimate climax is worth reading.
Fast paced like the previous two books.

A superb finish to the series tying off all loose ends. The first half seemed to be drifting for me but I can now see why as the last half was unstoppable with pace and drama. I couldn’t put it down and just had to keep going.
Great work Iain. Believable characters, a well thought through plot line, no inconsistencies and something that I genuinely think should make the screen in one shape or another.
