Elei's Chronicles #3

Rex Equilibrium

Rate this book
A lot has happened since Elei fled his home island with a
bullet in his side and the Fleet on his heels. With the help of his friends, he's managed to disorganize the regime, run by the all-women race of the Gultur, and he's on a mission to bring peace to the Seven Islands.
Old secrets come to the surface, friendships are forged and betrayals discovered, and a girl, Alendra, has managed to take hold of Elei's feelings.
With a map that leads underground and the hope of toppling the Gultur regime, Elei and his companions seek a weapon to tip the balance of power. But unrest within the resistance means that this time they are on their own and, as if crossing a world torn by war while keeping Rex under control wasn't enough, Elei fears that before the end Alendra might break his heart.

In the fascinating, dystopia world that Ms. Thoma has created, females rule and parasites either kill you or mutate you making you stronger and quite interested in killing your friends. Include a fresh plot with much loved characters and Rex Equilibrium is as riveting a read as books 1 and 2. The weight of the world rests on a small group of friends has they go down further and further to try and unearth secrets beneath the sea. Elei not only cements his friendship with the best big brother anyone could ask for, (I really hope we get to see another book starring Kalaes sometime!!) Elei finally gets that...nope, no spoilers. But I love how things develop between him and Alendra. I think readers could follow the series without reading the prior two books, which are awesome reads on their own, but the complexity of the characters builds on each book and I'd start at the beginning knowing you're in for a fantastic ride.

I originally picked up the first of this series as it was a freebie on Amazon. I don't usually read sci-fi books, but the write up sounded interesting, so I thought I'd give book one a try. I'm really pleased that I did. The series has turned out to be a fantastic read.

Book one, Rex Rising, revolves around a young man, Elei, who battles with his two internal parasites, who give him some extra strengths, but also have the potential to kill him. He is shot and his employer, Pelia, is killed when they are attacked. Elei ends up fleeing and must find out what deadly secret Pelia had and where he fits into it all.

Book two,Rex Cresting and this book follow Elei and his new found friends, Kalaes, Hera, Alendra and Sacmis as they try to bring down the dreaded Gultar and bring peace to the islands where they reside.

The book had good pace, quite a few times my heart was in my mouth as the friends fled from various pursuers. I really enjoyed the relationships between the main characters, particularly Elei and Kalaes. I do like Elei in particular, he is a really likeable character, strong, but unassuming. I found the parasites fascinating, particularly Rex.

I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment.

Although this series would appeal to sci-fi readers, I also think it would appeal to anyone who like YA / dystopia books and also anyone looking for something just a bit different.

I RECEIVED AN ARC OF THIS IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW!

I loved this book. This book has fully drawn me into the world. The characters have grown so much from the beginning of the series and I've loved every bit of the journey. This isn't the final book in the series but could end with this one if you wanted it to. There were times during the story that things got kind of to descriptive and slowed down the pace of the book for me. Elei finally gets the family he's been wanting for so long in Kalaes and Hera. Which makes the even better is that Kalaes and Hera acknowledge him as family too. He finally gets to kiss the girl (only spoiler you're getting). Just like with the other two books this book is also full of action and fighting. The worlds just keep getting more interesting as each book comes along. I look forward to seeing what happens next with Elei and his family. I hope that one day we will get a book about Kalaes. Thank you Chrystalla Thoma for writing a series that I could escape into while reading. I will definitely recommend your series to all fellow readers.
