It emerged from Polly's womb in a welter of gore. Doctor Carter never stood a chance. Nurse Dorothy Cummings was the second to fall to its teeth and talons. And the hospital would fill with blood. Sheriff Mike Brundle and Deputy Charlie Ham were fast on the scene. What they found was a massacre that would pale in comparison to what was coming.
Brian G Berry is new to the world of writing. He writes everything from 1980s inspired horror, SCIFI/Action-horror, to the strange. His biggest influences are the writers of the weird including Lovecraft, Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, to the pulp horror authors of the golden age 70s/80s- and a splattering of others. Author of The Pail, A Bloody Christmas, Splatter Fiend Series, Slasherback Series, Campfire Tales Beneath a Pallid Moon, Accursed Ground, Blood Lanes, The Night Mutilator, Thanksgiving Day Massacre, and his newest: SNOW SHARK.
3.5 stars. I was glad to see Judith Sonnet comment on this, because my first thought was ‘Didn’t she just write the same book a few months ago?’ So this is a loose sequel to her work, and is just absolute insanity. Alien wars, killer dinosaurs, sex, and tons of gore. Honestly, a strong majority of the characters were all faceless victims, except for Brundle and the ‘agents.’ The plot is nonsensical and the whole thing makes you question your reasoning for reading it in the first place. But it was meant to be that way. If you’re reading a book called Splatter-Saurus Rex, like you shouldn’t be expecting Shakespeare, so you get what you expect. My only critique in this Carnosaur-esque bloodbath is that there were a bit too many ideas poached from Critters. I would have liked to see something different to really set this apart from what’s already been done out there in the horror world. But otherwise, turn off your brain and enjoy this wild ride.
I considered not reviewing this because... well... I wrote the first book. But I'll keep things short and sweet. I gave Brian total creative freedom with this sequel and he killed it. Dinosaurs vs citizens vs aliens. An all out war. If my original novel was a slasher, then this is a stampede.
Dinosaurs, aliens, blood, gore, etc. What you see is what you get in this short tale. I would love to see a more developed splatter saurus story with memorable characters.
Its Jurassic Park meets Men in Black meets Mars Attacks in Berry’s latest novella, a sequel to Judith Sonnet’ Splattersaurus.
And if that mashup seems nuts, well you aren’t wrong.
Splattersaurus Rex is a truly bonkers tale that combines the straight up silliness and camp of a b grade sci-fi flick with the bloodshed and gore of the latest horror flick, all combined with Berry’s apt writing skill.
Yes, this story is dumb. Yes, it’s over the top in straight absurdity. But, like its predecessor, Rex is written strictly for the sake of fun.
And for better or worse, this story still ain’t done.
Awesome sequel author put in violence gore mayhem and hard-core sex scenes, plus ufos. And there is another sequel in the horizon by another author date unknown. Can't wait.
Well, this was a crazy ride from start to finish. I was not expecting the turn the story made. It is like a '50s B-movie made into a short book, with all the sleazy and cheap stuff these movies came with. Totally over the top and crazy.
