USA Today Bestselling author, Cindy M. Hogan is the author of edge of your seat, young adult suspense novels that always have a dash of romance, because every book should have hot guys and girls in them. Her first series, the Watched Series, skyrocketed her to number one bestselling author and she hasn’t let up since with over 20 novels to her name.

She never sits down to write, instead, she walks and talks into a recorder and lets her computer transcribe her words. Editing is her enemy, but she loves the final results, so she’ll always dig in.

Her one dream is to own and bake in a German style bakery with a cute to-go window for Gelato. In the meantime, she’ll continue to do the thousand other things she loves like teaching, all things outdoors, painting, and gardening—she’s never met a flower, tree, bush or vegetable she doesn’t like—except maybe okra and beets. As long as she’s got a book playing in her ear, she even enjoys weeding. She may be deranged.

She loves to create, but can’t seem to sit still for long, even to read a book. Instead, she listens to books so she can read and create at the same time. She’s a non-stop worker and enjoys every minute of it.

Her most loved creation is her two amazing daughters and wishes they were teens again. She loves to be home, but her husband is a traveler and drags her family around the world, where she finds an endless supply of story ideas, characters, settings, and more often than not, walks away with a suntan or ends up in a cool castle. She is also inspired by the unpredictable teens she teaches. If she is not creating things other than books, you’ll find her snuggled up with the love of her life watching a movie or planning their next party.

Most of all, she loves to laugh.

Christy has returned home to Helena, Montana after her disastrous debate trip to Washington, DC. She had originally thought that kids at her regular school would treat her differently after her trip. They didn't. They still pick on her just as much as they did before her trip, even though Christy feels so much different about herself, and has proven that she is able to make friends. She's had an especially bad day one day, when all of a sudden, she spots Alex after school. He walks down the stairs to her, gives her an amazing kiss in front of all the popular kids, and they drive off into the sunset in his rented convertible. Well, that's how it feels at first. Christy has sworn to give up Alex and choose Rick instead, because she knows that Rick is a better match for her, unfortunately her heart just won't listen. Alex shows her a wonderful time, even showing up at her house so her parents can question him. Christy knows that there's now way the terrorists can still be after her, but she starts seeing strange things, cars that don't belong and disappear quickly, and she still feels as though she's being watched. She and Alex go on a hike, and they are kidnapped. This is just the beginning of the adventure for Christy, taking her places from being kidnapped, to being dead to her family and in the witness protection program. All of this will change Christy, but will it be for the better. I really enjoyed reading this book! Christy seems like a real person, she thinks and acts how I would. I really liked how she was told to kind of lose herself by one agent, but then another one told her that she needed to be true to herself. I liked the idea of not really losing yourself, even though you may have to do things that kind of take you out of yourself. The book was well written, the characters are amazing! I didn't want to put it down until the story was over. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Book Title: "Protected"

Review: "Protected", was unique and so elegantly written that it did no less than amaze me with the brilliance of this author. In a world where danger is real and there are bad people just waiting to hurt you at every turn, Cindy M. Hogan still manages to weave in the hope that is found in believing in a higher power.

Christie is is a teen like no other. Though she sees herself as far less than average, she is brilliant, stunning, and a fighter. In this amazing sequel to "Watched", Christie finds herself placed in witness protection and realizes her nightmare is far from over... in fact it's truly just beginning. Still unsure if her heart lies with Alex or Rick, she is thrown into the situation of losing them both yet again. The terrorists are hot on her heels and every false move could mean the end if she cannot let go of her past and become someone new, someone completely different from who Christie could ever imagine being. She has lost everything and has no choice but to start anew.

Where will she end up, who will she become, and will she ever see her family again?

This is one of the very best YA series I have ever read and it's definitely worth picking up. I think I love this series most because of the real-life drama and situations these teens are put in. The situations are indicative of what could truly happen in today's world and that's what makes it so exciting and thrilling. Packed with a combination of heart-wrenching teen angst and heart-stopping action with the threat of some really bad people, this is one you don't want to miss!

Protected is the second book in the Watched series. (Read my review for the first book, Watched, here.) I think this was an excellent second book in a series! It picked up right where the first book left off. I have to say that Christy is one of my favorite YA female characters. The reason why, is that she is smart, cute, and most of all is she portrayed as a "real" teen. Even though she is in this horrendous situation, she still is a 16 year old girl and she thinks like one. Sometimes YA female protagonists sound and act like the women who write them; not so in this case. Cindy Hogan writes a realistic character and how a 16 year old would talk and think.

Another thing I loved about Protected is how Christy is in the Witness Protection Program. There is so much that happens to her as she is "trained" in how to live her new life. I was fascinated by how many things she had to learn in able to protect herself from the terrorists. Many of these things/techniques come in handle throughout the book. There are many exciting things that occur, but there is also much character development happening at the same time. In Protected, Christy also learns about relationships and is able to look back at how she has treated others. This whole series is one that I would feel very good about letting my teen read. Christy has high moral standards, and they are tested in this book, but she always stays true to herself. What better message can we send our teens than this?

I also want to applaud Cindy on such great writing. When I read her books I don't want to quit reading until I am done with the book. The suspense is high in Protected throughout the book. If you haven't read this series yet you need to. This series is a great combination of YA romance, mystery/suspense and action.

Over the weekend I had some spare time and treated my self to a book. I chose Protected, by Cindy Hogan. She released this book last March on the same day as I released my first book, Promises. (We had our launch party together and she was so helpful, as I was a bumbling newbie). What I can't believe is that I had waited this long to get around to reading her book. I had enjoyed her first book, Watched, and I was rewarded equally, if not more, as I read Protected.

In Cindy's first book, Watched, the MC, Christy witnesses the murder of a government official by terrorists while on a school field trip in Washington DC. In Protected, Christy enters the Witness Protection Program and undergoes the transformation from her unpopular nerdy-bookworm image into Michele, a character that is the complete antithesis. Cindy did a brilliant job of showing Christy make this transition, not just on the outside, but on the inside. I loved how she still kept Christy human, botching up her new cover and having to receive another image, Ari, this time as opposite as possible from Michele, and her original nerdy self. Having Christy slip into a second disguise was fun and kept me reading.

With evil terrorists always on Christy's heels, the tension was high, and kept me turning the pages and mad at myself for having to turn off my Nook and go to sleep when I couldn't focus on the page anymore.
Protected is a fun, clean, entertaining read for teens (and old ladies like me). I would highly recommend it.

Review:

"Protected" by Cindy M Hogan was a good followup from Watched.
There was just a much twist and turn that definitely made this novel
hard to put down until I was finished. It was very exciting to see what
this author had in store for this heroine. From being bullied at school
to the action pack of the terrorists...this is an excellent read.

Christy has now returned to Montana, her hometown after a horrible
trip from Washington, DC with her debate team only to be caught up in
more drama after Alex's' shows up....first there is a kidnapping...then with her being dead to her family and the the story moves on to (Christy)Michelle's new family in the witness protection program... and then Ari. Who was Ari? Will Christy (Ari) be able to loss herself and be come this new person? You will simply have to read this wonderful read to find out just how this all comes out. It will be worth the read.

I really enjoyed reading "Protected." Is this really how the witness protection program works? I felt "Protected" was very well written and the characters were simply off the chart.... simply good and I would definitely recommend this as a good read.

First, my thanks to the Author for an E-ARC...??? (Is that a word? It is now.) to read. I was excited to see what was in store for Christy once more. It picked us up with the heroine just a few months after her departure from DC back in her hometown of Helena. Things still aren't very peachy there and go from bad to worse when Alex shows up. Soon, she finds herself thrown into Witness Protection and a whole slew of new moral dilemmas to conquer.

The author does an excellent job of keeping your emotions on the surface with the characters. She also writes awesome action sequences and mean baddies. A nice blend of action and self discovery.

She has the guy. The terrorists have been taken care of and she is on the brink of being popular. Life is GREAT! Until they find her. Now she must run and leave behind everything she knows, including herself.

This is quite the ride. I was going to take my time working my way through this book, but I had to finish it. I really felt for Christy as she enters the witness protection program and leaves behind everyone she knew and loved in order to protect not only herself, but them as well. She's told she can never again be who she was.

To help protect her, she is trained in the arts of protecting herself. And boy does she need it!

At this point I am anxiously awaiting the final installment in Watched Trilogy!

As the second book unfolds the plot thickens TO SAY THE LEAST. bonds are made as well as broken and Christy has alot more to endure. I love the twists in this book. I read it in a hurry. It hopped and skipped some time and that was okay too.

This is one of my favorite series and casts of characters!

It was great and addictive reading. I was immersed and satisfied how it all went down. I cannot wait for book 3!

in this book it shows lots of imagery. When Christy is explaining Ice Man, you can see what he looks like in your mind. thats cool. it also has lots of similes when she is talking about Alex and Rick. like how they look and act.
I didn’t really like this book. This in account of several reasons that I will explain in my review. First of all I didn’t really like the main character Christy. Now I won’t be too harsh, because yes, she was placed in witness protection and yes, I agree that must be hard on a person, but there are several things that I just don’t like. Christy, a self proclaimed nerd and an school outcast, during her time in witness protection gets transformed into the person she has always wanted to be. Sportive and confident. At times however she is that person and at other times she is whiny and acts like and immature child. At times she misses her family (understandable of course) but most of the time it appears as if she doesn’t even remembers them. I also think Christy’s main attention is on boys. Isn’t her life in danger? Her family’s lives? and the only thing she seems to care about is that she is forbidden to see Alex! That kind of annoys me. A lot. If that isn’t enough, Alex isn’t the only guy. No, there is a second guy and she has no idea who she likes more. It seems to me that she should be more focused on saving herself and her family instead of which guy she likes more.

This is the second book in the Watched Trilogy and it is amazing. Once you begin there is no way you can put this book down! This book continues the thriller with Christy who wanted to change her personality and become popular and not picked on. When she returns to her school, she is still bullied until Alex, the extremely good looking boy from her Washington trip and run in with terrorists and saved by the FBI. When her mean girl bullies see how Alex swept her off her feet and kissed her in front of all the bullies she thought maybe she would become accepted. But all the wonderful feelings must come to an end when on a hike, Christy and Alex are kidnapped by the terrorists they thought were taken care of. Then all things continue to change with kidnapping, killing, witness protection, changing personality, FBI handlers working to make Christy strong and capable at the ripe of age of 16. With lots of edge of your seat thrilling action and seeing the development of Christy into a capable young woman who is snarky and learns to protect herself, you just can't put this book down. This book will make you laugh and cry both out loud and you will want to dive right into book 3, I know I do! I received and ARC of this book from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

It's kind of a cool premise for a book, but completely implausible. When people go into witness protection, the government doesn't fake their death, especially if it is a minor. It annoyed me that she finally learned to like herself after changing everything, while still worrying about what her parents and church leaders would say about her decisions. I wouldn't be so hung up on that, except that she is still obsessed with what other people think, not her own beliefs (religious or otherwise). She never talks about what she actually believes and how those beliefs are at odds with what she's being asked to do. Instead, it's all about what her parents taught her or believed and how they would feel about her decisions. Also, she's kind of an idiot, not being able to figure out how to contact the guy she likes. I can see that being a problem back in the 80s, but in the age of internet and smartphones, it really does seem like she was more intent on feeling sorry for herself than actually being proactive about keeping in touch with her friends and using the things she learned about herself in the previous book to stand up for herself at school.

Such a great second book in the Watched series! Impeccably written and researched. Characters are so believable, and you really see why Christy was such a dork in the first book. Now, Christy becomes Michelle, and it's so great the way Cindy M. Hogan creates the reality of such a difficult transition, as Christy's life is completely changed as she gets instantly thrust into the Witness Protection program. Christy's dorkiness continues to follow her into her new life, despite her difficult, yet sincere efforts to do her best to maintain her new persona. Then, she meets up with some of the kids with whom she went to D.C. that started everything in book one, as she has to return to D.C. to retell what happened, after she stupidly, but unwittingly blows her cover. This story is compelling, and very difficult to put down. I can't wait to find out what happens next in the final book of the Watched trilogy, Created.

This is a fun book, not perfect, but cute for teens. The fun part was reading about Christy’s changes and watching her develop some kickass skills. The boring part was the few high school chapters. And boy, I am not fond of Alex. He’s a jerk. Christy sure does make some stupid choices, but she is only sixteen. There were a lot of chapters that read line an expanded outline, with lots of explanation and little dialogue. Those were rough to read through. Still, the story is action packed. Kept me entertained.

This is a good book. It is a novel that has suspenseful, romantic, and intriguing. At first I was confused about what does the author want to tell us.
This book is talking about a girl was been bullied, but after she met a boy, her life started to change. Although her life became better than before, she doesn't trust herself at all.
When I read to the end of this book I felt that this is a book that I will strongly recommend.

Protected is a story written by Cindy M. Hogan. It's the 2nd book in the watched series and is all about Cristy's life and adventures after leaving behind the murder that she witnessed in Washington, D.C. This story takes plalce all over the U.S. Here's her story. Cristy's home is just how she left it. She thought she had escaped all the troubles she had faced in D.C. but what she doesnt know, is that she had been followed home by the terrorists that had commited the murder. About a week before her school year is suppose to end, Cristy is visited by Alex (hot guy from D.C. who has the hots for her). They go out for a picnic and have a great time together their 1st day together again. But the next day isnt such a wonderful picnic. They are kidnapped by the terrourists from D.C. Together, they are taken as hostages to be exchanged for one of the terrourist's brithers who had been caught by the FBI in D.C. They escape as soon as they find a way out; just to be captured again by the same people. Just as they are begining to lose hope, they are rescued by the FBI. They are then taken to a safe-house where they see Alex's parents (who are also FBI agents). Later that day Alex and Cristy are seperated by his parents. Cristy is left with his father John. John tells Cristy that she has to now have a new identity and fake her own death. They then begin her training for her new identity as a 17 year old cheerleader named Micheal. the training goes on for 3 months until she is ready to start her new life. Her new parents are FBI agents who live in a mansion/safe house. School is great for her because she makes many friends. Eventually she has a pretty nice boyfriend named Matthew. She makes suggestion to her coach about a fund raiser. the fund raiser becomes so popular that her cheer squad's picture is put into the news paper. The day of the fund raiser, Cristy runs into Alex and they leave the school together. That night they watched a movie and Cristy fell asleep on the coach. The next morning she wakes up and cant find Alex. So she writes him a note and leaves to go have breakfast with Matthew. At the restaurant Cristy is confronted by Matthew about Alex and her true identity. She ends up telling him that she is in witness protection. She then, suddenly, gets a feeling that something is wrong. She senses an ambush. she makes a quick exit through the bathroom and runs to find Alex. When she cant find him, she checks her phone. There is a message from John saying that she would get picked up by an agent at the library. She meets the guy at the library and they leave to go to another safe house. There she is informed that her identity as Micheal had been compromised and she would be needing another new identity. Now she is a 17 year old goth-biker-girl named Ari. She and her new father, Cort (aka Lenny) leave with many other bikers for a trip to Florida. They can both tell that they are being followed by the terrorists and sneakily get of the road to head for D.C. so that Cristy can restate her statement. Once they are there (after the interview), the have dinner. As they are eating, the building is ambushed and they have to make an escape through the sewers. They exit the sewers on a golf course. There she is told to wait for Cort to return, but if he isnt there in 10 min. run. She waits. While waiting, she begins to think about a childhood memory and is interrupted by the sound of a man speaking a different language. She hid. Once the man got close enough, she broke his nose into his skull. The man fell over, eyes wide open, not moving. She ran for a shed and once she is there she is grabbed by 2 men and thrown into an SUV. When she comes to, she is happy to see that everyone is safe and in the hands of the FBI. they arrive at another safe house where everyone else is getting a new identity, not including Cristy. The group is then sent to Europe to live their lives, that is until they can return to the states.

The theme of this story is: Listen to the FBI or you might have to deal with bad consequences.
I recomend this book to mastly girls because of all the romance and girly vibe the book gives.

Better than the first book, this book has more action and thrilling spy work. The growth Christy/Michelle/Ari goes through is so important for the growth of the story and helps teens going through their own trying times have someone to vaguely represent them.

Thank you to Cindy M. Hogan for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Christy imagined she'd get back to her life at school and be accepted by the 'in' crowd - since she did it in Washington D.C., why not? She couldn't be more wrong.

Although Christy has been forever changed by her ordeal on the field trip - having witnessed an actual murder and been shot at and barely survived - it's hard to change the perception kids at school have of her. Especially, when she can't breathe a word of what she's been through to anyone, not even her parents. Since she feels so different, when she shows up to school and nothing has changed, it comes as a bit of a shock to her. She's still being bullied by some and overlooked by the rest.

Until . . .

She gets an unexpected visitor. Alex. He shows up one day in a convertible - almost as smokin' as he is - and saunters his way up to her in front of the cheerleaders, and whoever else happens to be in front of the school, and plants a kiss on her guaranteed to make her, and all witnesses, weak in the knees. Actually, let's let Christy describe it:

"Then the unthinkable happened. He kissed me. It wasn't just a little kiss, either. It was one that makes you feel like you could die today and it wouldn't matter. When he finally released me, he said, 'At last.'"

It's that perfect moment we've all imagined as teenagers. That EVENT that finally makes the popular kids realize you're not insignificant. It wakes them up to your existence and proclaims that you have something they should envy. Gorgeous Alex has put Christy on the map. Problem is, her heart says one thing and her mind says something else. She can't seem to get them to reconcile. *Sigh* Who among us hasn't struggled with this, am I right?

Before Christy has the chance to see what Alex's display of affection has done for her social status, they find themselves in mortal danger, once again. This time, there's no coming back. She's forced to leave everything she knows and loves behind and enter Witness Protection. It's the only option if she's going to protect her family and keep herself alive.

Her life becomes unlike anything she could've ever dreamed up or imagined it would be. She's pushed to the extremes and finds that she is capable of so much more than she thought possible. It's a rollercoaster ride an adult would have a hard time digesting, let alone a 16 yr. old.

Cindy Hogan wrote an incredible sequel to a great book. With Protected, she hit it so far out of the park, that ball won't be recovered anytime soon! I was so hooked on this book, I actually kept pressing the 'next page' button on my Kindle begging it to give me more story at the end. Christy is practically unrecognizable in this book, which is the point of Witness Protection, right? Just as it happened in Watched, the supporting characters won me over with equal intensity as the story's heroine.

I'm recommending this series to EVERYONE. It's a very clean read infused with action, intensity, romance and intrigue. The profusion of twists and turns, up and downs, left me breathless. I guarantee you will be hooked on this series by the end of Protected, if you weren't already with Watched.

Christy is a 15-year-old girl who is being chased by a group of terrorists. Protected is book #2 in a series of which, unfortunately, I did not read the first book. This left me at a slight disadvantage since I did not know the original back story; however, one could still read the book as a stand alone.

I rated this book 3 out of 5 stars for several reasons. First of all, Christy is a semi-likeable character who, at the age of 15, must enter Witness Protection due to a crime she witnessed in Book #1. Protected is unclear as to what it was that Christy witnessed. I say that Christy is “semi” likeable because she appears to have two different personalities. Although a self-proclaimed school nerd, Christy seems to take it in stride. She does not like being a school outcast, but she is strong enough to deal with the snide comments. When Christy enters Witness Protection, she is tough enough to be trained hardcore; running, strength, tumbling, martial arts, kickboxing, etc. Christy is at first reluctant to train, but she eventually acquiesces and pushes herself beyond the limits. I really enjoyed this part of the story and the several roles she must play. On one hand, you have this strong-willed and stubborn girl who will do anything to protect the ones she loves. On the other hand, when Christy is pushed outside of her boundaries, she whines and acts like an immature brat.

The second major problem with this book is the religious proselytizing. Christy is a Mormon and she proclaims to have beliefs that she feels strongly about, namely physical contact with boys. Christy meets an equally devout boy, Matthew, and she gives him a long speech about her values when he makes it clear that he would like to kiss her. Christy is not in love with Matthew; she is using him so she can turn down the groping jocks who keep asking her out on dates. When Alex, a leftover character from Book #1, shows up, Christy can practically control her desire. She has absolutely no problem jumping on Alex, wrapping her legs around his waist and kissing him. I find this completely hypocritical and I found myself rolling my eyes at these interactions.

Despite the problems that I had with the story, my attention was captured through the entire book. The ending is not finished; it leads you to Book #3. I am not sure yet if I will read the next book. I do think that this book should be labelled religious fiction due to the preachy tone of the text.
