Yaaa, menurutku ini bacaan yang pas sih buat yang nggak bisa namatin Dunia Sophie versi aslinya. Dan karena divisualisasikan, jadinya nggak seberapa pusing ya buat ngebayangin maksudnya lewat contoh-contohnya.
Ini jadi "pengantar" filsafat yang cukup sih. Cocok dibaca pas lagi santai juga.
Tapi di sisi lain, aku ngerasa beberapa penjelasannya terlalu disederhanakan dan lebih difokuskan ke filsuf-filsuf populer ya. Ada sih beberapa filsuf lain yang sekadar "dihadirkan" di satu panel aja.
Dan aku baru ngeh ternyata novel grafis ini dibagi jadi 2 volume. Jadi yang di volume ini cuma sampai zaman Barok aja.
Oh iya ternyata format novel grafis ini ngikutin format novel grafis aslinya yang dari Prancis, jadi daftar isinya ditaruh di halaman terakhir di buku ini. Agak unik ya.
Terus ada beberapa halaman kosong yang dimaksudkan buat jeda sebelum beralih ke cerita lain. Ya jadi penanda kalau antar periode filsafat yang didiskusikan Sophie sama Alberto itu nggak dilakukan di waktu yang langsung berdekatan banget gitu.
Untuk style gambarnya sendiri entah kenapa agak ngingetin sama Sapiens Grafis sih.
Ini jadi "pengantar" filsafat yang cukup sih. Cocok dibaca pas lagi santai juga.

Είναι καταπληκτικό πώς οι σύνθετες φιλοσοφικές σκέψεις λειτουργούν τόσο καλά σε comic. Έχετε σκεφτεί καλύτερο τρόπο να μιλήσεις για τον Δημόκριτο και τη θεωρία του για τα άτομα από το να το κάνεις με… Lego; Ε, οι δημιουργοί το σκέφτηκαν. Και αν στο βιβλίο η μετακειμενικότητα είναι κάτι που εντυπωσιάζει, στο comic λειτουργεί ακόμη καλύτερα, πιο εντυπωσιακά, πιο κωμικά και πιο.. φιλοσοφικά.

Wauw, mooi gedaan dit! Deze stripversie van De wereld van Sophie leert je opnieuw van alles over filosofie en maakt tegelijk knap gebruik van het medium door letterlijk buiten de kaders van de tekeningen te werken. Ben benieuwd naar deel 2.

Karena filsafat dianggap sebagai ilmu yang menakutkan, rumit, dan terbilang berat untuk dipelajari. Dunia Sophie bisa dikatakan membawa sebuah cerita baru bagi orang-orang yang ingin mendalami filsafat dengan cara yang sederhana dan ringan.

Nice Adaptierung (Adaptation?) des Buches als Graphic Novel mit ein paar Veränderungen die ich mochte, auch wenn die emotionalen Stellen nicht ganz so gefühlvoll rüberkommen wie in meiner Erinnerung vom Original, aber vllt muss ich das auch einfach nochmal lesen :)

Na twee zomers geleden De Wereld van Sofie gelezen te hebben, kreeg ik laatst de stripboek versie cadeau. Het stripboek verschilt iets van hoe ik me het oorspronkelijke boek herinner. Maar de basis is wel hetzelfde. Het stripboek is wellicht iets beter te volgen. Het is leuk dat er ook een detective kant in het boek (strip+oorspronkelijke boek) zit.

I've long been curious about the "real" book that this graphic book is based on. Since I can read this sort of thing much faster, I'm glad to have found it. This is mostly about early philosophers, with only a little of the "meta-fictional" bits. But the ending hints that will become a bigger part of volume 2. Looking forward to that even though this by itself was underwhelming.

Li o livro original de Jostein Gaarder há bastante tempo... Daquilo que recordo, acho que esta adaptação está bem conseguida.
Preocupações actuais, como o aquecimento global e o papel da mulher numa sociedade patriarcalista não estavam no original, penso... Mas nada se perde por esse acrescento, antes pelo contrário.

Good overview - very contemporary. It's funny too. And feminist. Some areas (more about Diogenes for example) I was sorry that were left out, but this is a general philosophy book and it's YA, so it's not supposed to be comprehensive. Great illustrations.

Die Romanvorlage zu dieser Graphic Novel ist mir noch immer sehr gut in Erinnerung. Das Mammutwerk des norwegischen Autors Jostein Garder hat mich zum ersten Mal mit der Geschichte der Philosophie in Verbindung gebracht. Nach 30 Jahren ist es Zeit für eine Auffrischung der besonderen Art.
Sofie bekommt mysteriöse Briefe. Die Fragen „Wer bist du?“ und „Woher kommt die Welt?“ lösen eine bildhafte Reise von den Anfängen der Philosophie bis in die Gegenwart aus. Die Romanvorlage wurde frei interpretiert. Wir begegnen auch hier Aristoteles, Thomas von Aquin, Kant und Nietzsche. Machen uns mit ihren Ideen vertraut und begleiten Sie ein Stück ihres Lebens. Genau so sind wir an der Seite von Sofie, die den geheimnisvollen Briefe Schreiber sucht und am Ende des ersten Teils eine skurrile Entdeckung macht
Mich hat das Buch nicht nur wieder von seiner inhaltlichen Idee begeistert, sondern auch die Transformierung in die heutige Gegenwart ist richtig gut gelungen. Das Mädchen ist ein Teenager der 2020er Jahre mit all seinen Problemen. Sie kämpft vor den den Philosophen für mehr Feminismus Feminismus, setzt sich für eine bessere Umwelt und lebt im digitalen Zeitalter. Dabei wirkt es nicht Geschichts verändern. Die Autoren haben den Plot verjüngt und für Jugendliche und Erwachsene der Gegenwart gut lesbar gemacht. Die Zeichnungen sind farbenfroh und detailreich. Man spart nicht mit Ironie und Humor, was mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Eine große Lese Empfehlung für alle, die ihr philosophisches Wissen noch mal auffrischen möchten und den Roman neu beweisen wollen.

Escrita no início da década de 90 chegou a Portugal em 95, já eu tinha passado a adolescência e por isso não foi uma das minhas leituras da época.
Mas aqui estou eu, a lê-lo! (Mais vale tarde……)
Leva-nos numa viagem ao mundo do pensamento e de conhecimento - uma descoberta da filosofia.

A novela gráfica está muito bem adaptado, e actualizada - com referências à actualidade.

Póñolle un 4 aínda que non me entusiasmara, a filosofía non é para min. O cómic está ben estructurado, ofrece unha visión asumible da filosofía occidental.

Adaptasi dari Novel Dunia Shopie karya Jostein Gaarder yang tebalnya 800 halaman juga menjadi novel best seller internasional, kemudian oleh komikus Nicoby dan Vincent Zabus pada februari 2023 dituangkan kedalam bentuk grafis. Semakin menarik tentunya, visualisasi dalam novel grafis ini semakin memuaskan imajinasi dalam novel sebelumnya yang saya baca, mulai dari Shopie menerima surat filsuf misterius yang mempertanyakan diri Shopie, mitos dan filsuf alam, atom dan takdir, Athena dan Socrates, Plato, Aristoteles, Helenisme yang didalamnya terdapat kaum Sinis, Stoik, Epicurean dan Neoplatonisme, dua kebudayaan (Indo Eropa & Semit), St. Agustinus dan Ibnu Rusyd serta St. Thomas Aquinas hingga perjalanannya di zaman Renaisans dan zaman Barok dikemas padat, renyah dan sederhana sekaligus menarik lengkap gambar bak komik. Pertempuran idealisme dan materialisme, fatalistik dan deterministik serta kehendak bebas sebagaimana menjadi perdebatan abadi para filsuf yang konklusinya hanya dapat di maknai sendiri-sendiri..hehehe, garis waktu sejarah yang terlihat jelas sejak zaman Yunani dan Romawi kuno sebelum masehi hingga abad pertengahan dan pencerahan dan pra-modern juga di visualisasikan dengan apik dan menarik tanpa mengurangi esensi dari novel sebelumnya bahkan menurut saya lebih disesuaikan dengan kondisi sekarang dengan berbagai narasi dialog penuh ilustrasi yang kekinian.
Tentunya akan ada lanjutan seri ke 2 dari novel grafis ini, diakhir novel sedikit di singgung tentang kehendak bebas, dualismenya rene descartes dan spinoza, tentunya kelanjutannya akan membahas para filsuf pada awal abad ke 17 sejak zaman barok, modern dan post modern dengan segala kompleksitas ide dan gagasannya masing-masing. I'm waiting the next novel grafisnya ya...hehe
Mungkin ini semua adalah karya grafis yang dalam rangka mempertahankan eksistensi dan minat baca serta rasa keingintahuan para generasi Z alias generasi mileneal dalam dunia filsafat yang kadang cepat merasa sudah tau hanya dengan membaca head line sebuah informasi di media eletronik, tentunya termasuk saya...hehehe, tujuannya tidak lain untuk tidak terbiasa dengan dunia yang terberi, untuk terus memupuk rasa ingin tahu dan mempertanyakan segala sesuatunya dengan olah pikir dan nalar yang filosofis. Karena kita sekarang tidak kekurangan informasi, malahan kebanjiran informasi yang melimpah ruah dari segala sisi, itu semua akan mempercepat untuk menimbulkan rasa biasa-biasa saja dengan segala sesuatu yang ada disekitar kita, merasa tau bahkan mungkin sok tau..hehehe, menyaring semua informasi itu agar benar-benar relevan dan dekat dengan hidup akan menjernihkan pikiran untuk tetap mampu memilih serta memilah mana hal yang benar-benar penting untuk masuk kedalam pikiran dan dipikirkan lebih dalam. "Yang paling bijak adalah dia yang tahu dia tidak tahu." hehehe
Thanks Jostein, Nicoby dan Vincent sudah dibawa jalan-jalan mengulas kembali perjalanan filosofis lengkap dengan visualisasi yang memuaskan imajinasi saya dalam membaca. ^_^

Toen ik 15 was verscheen De wereld van Sofie, de roman van Jostein Gaarder, voor het eerst. Ik vroeg het aan de Sint, kreeg het en genoot, ondanks dat het ook zwoegen was, van elke pagina. Ik heb het boek nog steeds, ondertussen staat het bijna 30 jaar te pronken in mijn boekenkast. En hoewel ik grote fan was herlas ik het nooit. Te veel boeken, te weinig tijd, weet u wel…
Daar is nu een ideale oplossing voor: De wereld van Sofie, de graphic novel deel 1. Deel 2 verschijnt in oktober ’23. Nicoby en Zabus leverden een meesterwerk af, met dank aan uitgeverij Scratch voor de Nederlandse vertaling.
Het verhaal blijft iets om je tanden in te zetten en ook dit boek is een ferme klepper én dat is dan nog maar het eerste deel. De vorm (beeldverhaal) maakt het begrijpbaarder en meer bevattelijk, de inhoud dringt beter en dieper door. Soms zeggen beelden meer dan woorden, zeker in dit geval. De samenwerking tussen Zabus en Nicoby is indrukwekkend goed.
Het blijft dus een boek waar je de tijd voor moet nemen, als je wat wil bijleren. Daarom deed ik, snellezer, er twee weken over om het uit te hebben. Hoofdstuk per hoofdstuk, met telkens een paar dagen ertussen om het te laten bezinken. (En ja, die witte pagina’s horen erbij en zijn geen drukfout.)
Een extra plus is de aanpassing naar de huidige tijd (meer aandacht voor vrouwenzaken, het milieu, social media,…). Ik kijk al reikhalzend uit naar deel 2! Deze komt naast Jostein Gaarder in mijn boekenkast.

I understand Sophie's World is based on a novel, but I truly can't imagine this as a non-illustrated experience, what with all the imaginative constructs and fourth-wall breaking. It sounds like a painful read.
All that to say, Sophie's World as a graphic novel is pretty swell! If you'd like to learn the history of philosophy, this is a well-paced, low-impact way to go about it. The idea is that teenage Sophie is suddenly being visited by a mysterious teacher who has decided she needs to better understand the world and her place in it via the wonders of philosophy. Sure, okay! As could happen to any one of us.
Unlike me, who would be freaking out, Sophie is totally game to play along with these strange visitations (though by the end of this first volume she is firmly questioning the experience). Over the course of several chapters, Sophie (and the reader!) learn about the ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as the Christian and Muslim philosophers of the Middle Ages (neat to see theologians lumped in with philosophers). The book ends with the Renaissance, leaving the next volume to take up the true heavy-hitters, philosophically speaking.
I learned a fair bit, chuckled at some of the humor, and thoroughly enjoyed the strange ride through space and time. Recommended.
All that to say, Sophie's World as a graphic novel is pretty swell! If you'd like to learn the history of philosophy, this is a well-paced, low-impact way to go about it. The idea is that teenage Sophie is suddenly being visited by a mysterious teacher who has decided she needs to better understand the world and her place in it via the wonders of philosophy. Sure, okay! As could happen to any one of us.
Unlike me, who would be freaking out, Sophie is totally game to play along with these strange visitations (though by the end of this first volume she is firmly questioning the experience). Over the course of several chapters, Sophie (and the reader!) learn about the ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as the Christian and Muslim philosophers of the Middle Ages (neat to see theologians lumped in with philosophers). The book ends with the Renaissance, leaving the next volume to take up the true heavy-hitters, philosophically speaking.
I learned a fair bit, chuckled at some of the humor, and thoroughly enjoyed the strange ride through space and time. Recommended.

Having read the original book when it first came out (is it really almost 30 years ago!?), I was excited to see a graphic novel version.
Fifteen year old Sophie lives with her mum. She mourns the loss of her father but like any teenager, is gaining confidence in expressing her opinions. She starts to receive letters and lessons in philosophy from a mystery philosopher. The book looks to be the first in a set. This volume covers Western philosophy from the ancient Greek philosophers through to the Baroque seventeenth century. (Note that it is Western philosophy.) As we meet various philosophers with Sophie, they get to voice their ideas. Sophie also starts to question her own role in the world and how she can break out of it.
A must for anyone interested in philosophy, whether they're teenagers or adults. The graphic style works well, making this an accessible and engaging guide. I love how it gets meta too :) Look forward to picking up the lessons again in the next volume, as well as uncovering more of Sophie's story! I imagine this retelling will charm a whole new generation.

I’m all for books like this, this serves as a useful and enlightening guide to the founding philosophers and slightly beyond. It takes a quirky and offbeat approach which works really well with the subject matter. The art work is really creative and playful too.

Uma novela gráfica maravilhosa, que complementa o famoso livro de Jostein Gaarder e que se vai dividir em dois livros. Recomendo para quem adora novelas gráficas, mesmo que não tenha lido o livro do autor :)
