Chicago Racketeers #1

Puck One Night Stands

Rate this book
Chicago Racketeers Book One

I don’t do casual hookups, so I have no idea what to expect when I meet not one, but three hot guys who are into me.

I’m an introverted, failing-book-shop-owning, romance-writer wanna be.

But after my dating disaster at a hockey game—all caught on the jumbotron—I somehow have the attention of three men.

Nathan Armstrong is the hot, older, sophisticated billionaire owner of the team.

Why does this man want a night with me? I’m baffled…but I’m not saying no.

I should also say no to the romantic, suave, brilliant team doctor, Michael Hughes.

And the team’s new hot-shot all-star player Crew McNeill.

But I don’t.

And I’m loving every minute. Especially the minutes they decide we should all spend together. Golden Retriever Crew is all in, bossy, broody Nathan is reluctant (to say the least), and sexy, confident Michael knows what we all need. They’re all here, promising to make every one of my fantasies come true.

And they do. Night after headboard-banging night.

But it can’t last.

Good thing I was okay with a short-term fling because as soon as the fans find out what we’re doing, our lives–and my heart–are going to be all pucked up.

Puck One Night Stands is a steamy, fun why-choose rom com! No cheating, a guaranteed HEA, and the guys are all about her. If you like Lily Gold, Emily Rath, and Lauren Blakely, welcome to the world of Emma Foxx!

Feel the need to balance out the one star review written by someone who hasn’t even read the book (because it’s not out yet). I’m looking forward to reading this super-spicy “why choose” romance!

listen i’m all about the spice but this book 😭 pls. absolutely no plot and i hated all the characters. tell me why we still know barely anything about each of them. it’s so surface level, which i understand to some level, but this was the surface of the surface. they fell in love w this girl instantly and i HATE instalove bc it just feels like lovebombing. only finished it because i’m the type of person who doesn’t want to have a solid opinion on a book if i didn’t give it the full chance. i do NOT recommend lmao.

I got to Beta read this and let me tell y’all!! It’s so good!! Why chooses are always hit or miss for me and this one was SO good!! Equally spicy but sweet and had everything you want!

Dani is a bookworm who goes on a horrible date to a hockey game that ends up on the kiss cam. While on the kiss cam she catches the attention of 3 hockey guys who become obsessed with her and want to share her😏. Everything about this was so fun. The banter between the guys is hilarious and there never felt like there was a favorite or someone who was better (although I chose a fav and its Nathan he’s mine🤭).

The dynamic between them all worked really well and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

This was absolutely brilliant.

A steamy why choose romance with a billionaire hockey team owner, the team doctor and bestfriends brother/hockey play.

For one I mean they are all utterly and completely devoted to her and give her inspiration material to write her ✨spicy✨ moments for her story.

And secondly the spice and the banter is absolutely off the charts👏🏼

I'm sure I'll give it 5stars anyway once it's actually released but I'm angry enough about Reading Addict's fake review that I at least need to balance it out.

Update! Reading Addict's review was removed!!!! Will re-rate once I've read the impending masterpiece ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I am going to keep my review kind of short, as I don’t want to spoil anything. But I really enjoyed this debut by Emma Foxx. It was short, sweet and spicy. I couldn’t put this book don and read in less than 24 hours.

Dani is a bookworm who goes on a horrible date and ends up on the jumbotron. She ends up catching the attention of 3 men and they all end up obsessed with her.

The way that this group comes together made sense and felt organic and not forced. I loved how every guy is different and brings something to the table. I mean there is someone for everyone in this book…you have a grumpy/bossy billionaire, the cocky golden retriever hockey player, and an absolute sweetheart. The relationship between the men is rocky at first but they eventually work everything out. The dynamic and banter between the guys were some of my favorite parts. And we can’t forget the spice! PHEW!!! There is such great one on one and group action in this one but I really enjoyed the found family aspect of it the most.

If you want a sexy rom com read then I highly recommend this book. I felt all the things while reading this one. Thank you to Emma for sending me an eARC. I cannot wait for book 2.

Not for me. I didn’t like the writing, I didn’t like Dani’s weird writing in her book. Funnily enough, although it was mentioned in the book, it felt like the author had limited sexual experience when writing those scenes.

The timeline was unrealistic. And are we meant to believe that all 3 men, and even Dani just.. went along with it so quickly with limited conflict?

I was waiting for something to happen the whole book, and it just didn’t.

I won’t be reading the rest of the series. It was not a good read.

it started well! but the way everything was rushed really threw me off. I was so into it at first, but then all three men became obsessed with her way too quickly. how can I find these men hot without knowing anything about them? you can't just tell me that they're hot, I need to feel it. I tried to keep pushing through but it was a serious case of rushing to smut and it never works well, sadly

I wish I hadn't read this book because waiting for the remaining books is going to kill me, slowly.
This book was another surprise read where I wasn't expecting much, but it gave more than I bargained for.

Disclaimer: I'm a sucker for why choose.

This was such a fun and easy read! Emma Foxx dives us into the world of the Chicago Racketers! You meet Nathan, the grumpy, billionaire, owner of the team. Crew the young, hot shot player who likes to have a good time. Michael the team's doctor who is passionate and loving. And the woman who brings them all to their knees Danielle/Dani/Cookie.

Danielle is an aspiring writer, who owns a bookshop and bakery with her BFF. She's been lacking in the dating department since her last boyfriend made her feel guilty for communicating her desires.

Lucky for Danielle, her luck is going to change in just one night... at a hockey game of all places!

I tend to not rate a book when I feel mid about it, because I feel like my opinion is better kept to myself instead of being a negative voice on an author.

HOWEVER. This book lacks plot, lacks spice that is written by someone who has experienced spice (sorry to author if you have actually been in these situations bc they definitely dont read like so). Not to mention that Nathan is the kind of guy who thinks he’s a Dom but would actually be immediately dismissed from any reputable kink space bc he does not do any discussion or agreement beforehand, no consent during, and no aftercare. Kink spaces would absolutely yeet him to the hemisphere, he has zeeeeeeroooo redeemable qualities. He is nothing but a prick the entire time.

And finally, for the love of whatever higher power the author may or may not believe in: please just turn it into an omegaverse. Truly. It’s all highly scent specific, insta territorial, alphaholes — and the entire (shaky) plot wouldve at least made more sense as a scent-matched pack who maybe didn’t even realize they were a pack yet til they found her.

FWIW, if Nathan was not apart of this, the book would be a 3.5-4 range. But he is just so eye-rollingly Andrew Tate coded that it is barf worthy.

Toe curling, sexy and great dialogue. Even if why choose trope is new to you, the writing and dialogue is amazing and steamy. My favorite was Michael. 💕

This book was so bad I had to borrow my friends account just to leave a second review. I made my feelings very known in my original review so all I’m going to say is that there’s a reason this is under a pen name.

5 ⭐️ with some caveats

Ok so this book was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, I have had a countdown on my phone since the release date became available. Then imagine reading the 1st chapter and finding out the MFC is not only named Danielle, same as me, but also has red hair and green eyes…also, same as me! I literally felt like I was levitating with excitement for some odd reason. My why choose dreams and fantasies were about to really play out between the pages. The universe was blessing me!

So I loved this book. Honestly, loved it. However I do have some feelings about things it was missing. We saw a lot of character growth with Nathan aka the bossy billionaire aka the team owner. I really feel like he is the main character of this book and not Danielle. He is a damaged soul who needs love and a family so bad but doesn’t even know it. Deep down he is putty in Danielle’s hands and also, the guys to a point. He just craves to be loved and accepted for himself not just his money or power. He is truly all alone in the world San his grandfather who has dementia, and his grandfather’s old secretary who is like family. He has a huge character arc in this story. I just wish it was fished out a lot more. Really all their relationships and growth needed more. In parts of the story it was implied but we didn’t see it on page. It made it feel rushed and superficial at times because we didn’t get to experience the little things. It was like once they decided to do this together it was just fast paced and a lot got lost on page. It would have been nice to see the little things, the daily relationships building not just with Danielle but between the guys as well. We got very little of that, it was just implied.

Michael aka Doc was the steady, levelheaded voice of reason and the calming tone they all needed. He was also a total cinnamon roll. I loved him so much and almost feel like he got the short end of the stick sometimes especially at the beginning. He didn’t get his one on one with Danielle ever. And I was looking forward to that.

Crew our star hockey player and resident Puppy, was our high energy guy that brought everyone together and added comic relief. He spent years wanting Danielle and finally was ready to chance and failing was not an option.

There was a few editing mistakes, 1 being that Danielle said she never shared that she was writing on habernero because she fear what her bestie would think but then the morning after her and Doc created the kissing scene, she told her here read this I wrote how it happened. This was never discussed and just glossed over. Also, Danielle runs a bookstore that makes no money but never even goes to work so that’s odd. It was made a big deal at the beginning of the book and how Nathan wanted to help but then the bookstore is basically abandoned in the storyline completely.

And now my ick about the book…Danielle’s writing. It was bad. So so bad. Every time it was discussed or we had to read a scene I cringed. The entire thing was no bueno. Her writing was awful. And having Doc tell her otherwise was making me feel gaslighted.

This book either needed another 200 pages or a sequel. It needed more depth and it deserved more character and relationship development an growth. I desperately wanted it. Obviously, we know how they get down in the bedroom but we needed more than that. I love the spice, believe me if it’s not spicy I’m not reading it, but this is one book I actually wanted more of the plot because I genuinely loved the characters so much. I still wanted all the spice, but I wanted the everyday stuff too.

Also, Nathan made a big deal several times that he could not have kids. Micheal had internal dialogue whee he mentioned several times wanting that, as did Crew. They all mentioned being married. But nothing ever came to be. I feel if it’s made a point over and over then it needs follow through. Also, they never even really discussed it as a family just internal dialogue and the one time it was very briefly mentioned during a heated conversation and then immediately ignored. Never to be discussed at all. Like come on Emma stop dangling the darn carrot in our face then totally act like you never had a 🥕 at all!

This has the potential to be the Pucking Wild of 2023. Serious hockey romance lover will eat this up. I’m pretty sure this is gonna be a fan favorite amount them and the why choose and RH lovers. Also, Crew makes several hat tricks in games yet it’s never referenced as such and with it being a hockey book that’s something you shouldn’t have missed. It’s a big deal.

And I want more. I need more. This isn’t enough. I want wedding bells, big houses and babies for them. Asap please!

This was a whole lot of fun. Emma Foxx has done a fantastic job with her reverse harem, romantic comedy. It may be light on plot but it is heavy on fun, flirting, laughs and spice.

It’s a blind date that goes horribly wrong or horribly right depending on how you look at it.

The FMC is Dani, a little bit nerdy and shy, book loving, hopeful author who goes on a blind date with her best friend and ends up with three different men who want Dani.

MMC number one is the billionaire owner of the local ice hockey team the Racketeers. He’s a loner, he’s grumpy and he’s the boss all the time.

MMC number two is the team doctor. He’s charismatic and sauce, he’s also the most levelheaded of the men but he’s got moves that will drive Dani wild.

MMC number three is the new hot shot player for the Racketeers and he’s also Dani’s best friends younger brother. He’s flirty, fun loving, talented and cocky as hell and he’s been in love with Dani for years.

Each want her for themselves but after they figure out that none of them are willing to back down, they consider another option.

Like I said it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed Dani, Nathan, Michael and Crew.

There will be a follow up where the gang are heading to four family Christmases. Think it will be a good read and fun to catch up with the gang.
.
.
.
Dani wasn’t looking forward to the blind date her best friend setup for her and the fact that he’s already drunk when he arrives and Dani isn’t the least bit attracted to him in anyway isn’t the best start. She’s not looking for love but this blind date doesn’t even come close to what she wants.
‘I’d love to meet someone who can get me all hot and tingly just with a look. Who can simply touch my hand and make my heart beat faster. Who will lean over and whisper something dirty in my ear in public. Who can make my panties wet with a single naughty text.’

The man who offered her VIP tickets outside before the game is the total opposite. He’s older, sophisticated and handsome. Then when they run into each other again she sees a whole lot more of him and he makes her knees weak.

After a rather embarrassing incident on the jumbo tron she meets the team doctor who’s gentle touch and caring ways immediately put her at ease and have her tingling from his caring touch.

But it’s Crew the teams new star player that sets out to ease the jumbo tron embarrassment and lays his cards on the table for a stadium of people to see.

Dani has no idea what to make of all the sudden attention but she doesn’t hate it and decides why not take a chance and see what each of them have to offer. It isn’t long though before she’s hooked on all off them and has no idea how she will choose.
‘Michael is so sweet and romantic. Nathan was so bossy and dirty. Crew is so playful and fun. I’m different with each one of them, too. It’s like they each tap into a different part of my personality. And I like all of these sides.’

When the three of them decide that none of them are willing to step down and they could all loose Dani they come up with another plan that will hopefully make them all very happy. They just have to figure out how to work together and get Dani to agree on the plan.

Happy Reading.

Do you like your man dominant, a dirty talker, and also a billionaire?

OR

Do you like your man sweet, thoughtful, and able to handle any situation?

OR

Do you like your man full of energy, ready to laugh, and with a constant smile on his face?

Why choose when you can have all three!!Cause...gimme, gimme, gimme ❤️❤️❤️

I fell in love with every moment of this book! Literally, there wasn't a second that I didn't enjoy.

Let me count off just a few moments of pure wonderfulness to reiterate my thoughts:

💋Laughing out loud while reading DP, that was a first and I hope it's not the last...

💋Almost spitting out my beverage, multiple times mind you. This should have stopped me from drinking while reading, but now you have personally been warned because obviously I don't learn...

💋Tears of laughter, that's right, laughter leaked from my eyes. There were no heart breaking moments, just, wait for it....

💋Huge feelings of joy. This is a romcom with lots and lots of steam and this book is filled with both and it's all incredible...

💋Lots of hot men who are all fabulously different, but also perfect in their own way, who fell for a sweet redhead (what's not to love about that)...

💋A golden retriever sm3xy man in the same scene with a growly, grumpy sm3xy man who is also in the same scene with a romantic, sweet sm3xy man ALL focused on one woman and it was all so hot 🔥 I needed fresh panties....

💋Lastly, although, not really lastly, but this is enough of a taste to jump start the yumminess of this book that is everything!! Soooooo, I'm just going to hand all of my money over to Emma Foxx now in the anticipation of more books!!
