Skimmed through this one and decided to skip it. An adventure plot is the last thing I'm interested in seeing from this series. Maybe my partner will tell me if it's worth the time, if he ends up reading it himself.
Love is war more literally than usual as a gaggle of teenagers fights a conglomerate with the fate of Kaguya’s marital status hanging in the balance. Also there are noodles and for some reason a lot more ninjas than you’d expect.
I might have been overly kind to this storyline last volume because this continuation has its moments, but it doesn’t feel quite like the way I wanted the series to wrap up. It gets the job done, but it’s hard to not look at where we started and raise an eyebrow at where we are.
That might possibly be, in part, because the artwork for the adults in this series is pretty much ghastly across the board. I don’t know if it’s the point that all of Kaguya’s brothers look like ghouls with a case of anemia, but that’s sure how they come across.
Still, when it leans further into its goofiness it does tend towards being better. It says a lot that the funniest and best chapter essentially has nothing to do with the main storyline and basically involves a three way argument over noodle preparation.
There are some bright spots here. Minus the melodrama, the continuing whatever-is-going-on between Ai and Chika is pretty hilarious, as Chika gets really into the idea of some of what Ai is putting out, even as they are trying to escape hordes of goons.
The fact that the ridiculous storylines about Miyuki’s dad being a YouTube sensation actually pay off in this volume are almost enough to recommend it on its own. And, yes, I am a big enough softie to admit that the ending is maudlin, but not in a bad way.
It’s not stuffed with good gags, but Miyuki’s original rescue plan is brilliantly spendthrift and I loved their plans to keep Miko safe, which did the exact opposite from her perspective. It’s very light on what was really the manga’s bread and butter for many issues.
Then again, the tone is a bit more serious here, since we learn the origins of Kaguya’s mother and her integration into the Shinomiya family, plus there’s a lot of old way of thinking versus the new. It’s not bad, but it isn’t great either and not the series’ strong suit.
3.5 stars - rounded up because I’m letting the series coast into a cozy retirement with its last arc. Few manga that have made it this far can still claim to be nearly as good, so a little generosity is okay, I feel.

Book: Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Vol. 26 Author: Aka Akasama Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars
Well, I am almost to the end of this manga and I don’t know how I feel about it. I don’t know if anyone else wonders how this is going to wrap up. I mean, the climax felt like it was reached in this volume. I wonder if the last couple of volumes are going to be about rebuilding from the events and trying to move on. I don’t know where the author is going to go with this one. I guess that is what I am trying to say.
In this one, we still find our characters in a rather sticky situation. It is one that you do have to suspend your sense of reality to make it work. It is very mangaistic. You have to allow yourself to move away from what you know about the real world and just go with it. If you don’t, you will not have a good time with it. You have to allow yourself to fall into the plot. I would have liked for the action to be dragged out a little bit longer. That is one of my major complaints with this series. I want more of the action and I want the high stakes to go on for a longer time.
I would say that is one of this series’ greatest weaknesses. It does an amazing job setting up for these intense action sequences, but it doesn’t allow them to develop. It almost rushes it so we don’t have time to adjust to the high stakes. I wish that we got a wider scoop of the action. I do like seeing our characters outside of their normal roles. It’s a nice touch.
Overall, I am excited to see what the final volumes bring and to see how everything does end up wrapping up.
And so it is that the fear I harboured about Love is War's 'Shinomiya conglomerate' arc has finally come to pass. For all the histrionics and melodrama that Akasaka packs into this story, there's nothing we gain from it that we didn't already have. Instead, it’s a culmination that exists mostly so that the series can bring all of the ‘Princess Kaguya’ allusions full circle. It's definitely entertaining to experience, but this is narrative busywork over emotional pyrotechnics. Perhaps I'm being uncharitable, but what does the sight of Shirogane swooping in on a helicopter to save Kaguya actually deliver that we didn't already achieve earlier (besides the obvious delights that come with watching Shirogane swoop in on a helicopter)? Volume 26 is a solidifer of character development - an opportunity for the student council to show how committed they are to one another. It's a fun blow-out, not a huge evolutionary step - certainly not in the same way that the 'First Kiss Never Ends' arc was. I enjoyed it enough, but I'm relieved that things don't end here, and that the series is taking the time to go out on a more measured note.

I never would’ve guessed that this series would have a scene of Kaguya jumping off a cliff into Miyuki’s arms as he’s hanging from a ladder attached to a helicopter
(Read the chapters on Shonen Jump)

Okay. I still have two more volumes but this may just be my favorite manga series. Ever
Everything is clicking I love all these blorbos. Chika telling off Kaguyas brother was epic. Love when she is serious and Kaguya/President are top tier
Everything has been leading to this issue. The student council will go to any length to get their missing member back. The length Miyuki is willing to go in an effort to save Kaguya is astronishing and will put a smile on your face.
