Sweet Ruin

SAOIRSE McCARTHY
I ran as far away as I could, no longer able to be so close to the only man I’ve ever wanted while unable to have him. It wasn’t hard to convince my brother, Declan, to let me leave Boston for college. He’d do anything to keep me away from his world where violence and betrayal is around every corner.

Declan’s world taught me that you never know who you can trust when you’re an Irish Mob princess. But my heart told me I could always trust Conor. He always kept me at arm’s length and that’s why I really needed to get away. I had put it off too long already.

Now the holidays are right around the corner and I’m going home. I’ll see Conor and prove to him I’m not the lovesick puppy who ran away months ago. I don’t need him or the unrequited love that is like glass shards shredding my heart. We’re forbidden and I’ve gotten the message. But what happens when everything changes, and he looks at me like I’m his ruin and his salvation?

CONOR O’BRIEN
Saoirse was always too innocent and pure for my world, one I’ll never escape, and that is why I had to let her go. I didn’t see a way for a woman to stand next to me because I’m used to using my fists and the rage inside of me before any words can be spoken. I came up in the ring and that’s how I met Declan, who gave me a home before he even knew I needed one.

Betraying Declan after he became more of a brother to me than my own blood, who I could never trust, isn’t an option. I stayed away from Saoirse, but I’ve kept an eye on her, even when she ran as far as she could. I’ve watched and I’ve waited, my heart bleeding out with every passing day.

Now she’s back and there’s only one thing I want for Christmas—her love to shine on me and her heart to accept me. Declan has made room at his side for his queen while vowing to protect her. Can I do the same for my princess? Am I strong enough to be worthy of her in Declan’s eyes? Saoirse is my sweet ruin and I welcome her destruction because she’s mine and without her I’m nothing.

*18+. This story has dark themes and a morally gray hero. You’ll still find an insta-love story that is spicy and isn’t necessarily simple, but with darker themes, situations, rough spicy times, and depictions of violence (not between the MMC and MFC). No cheating with a guaranteed HEA. This book is part of my McCarthy Irish Mob series and has ties to my Agosti Crime Family books but can be read as a standalone. Meet Conor and Saoirse in Betrayal and Ruin. This is the second book in my McCarthy Irish Mob stories.*

I liked that Connor and Saoirse already knew each other but he had backed away from her because he was worried. I liked that she was going to try to move on and finds out how much she loves him and Boston. I also loved the way Connor claims her, it was definitely Alpha.I received an ARC and am leaving my honest and voluntary review.

This book started off well with both saoirse and Conner being on other sides of the country miserable but unbeknownst to each of them they were both miserable missing each other. It was when Saoirse went home for Christmas that I felt I was missing something and realised there was a book before telling Declan’s story that I assume showed the build up of Saoirse and Conner’s relationship that was missing in this book. It went from zero to 100 in a blink and I didn’t feel the chemistry or feelings that they supposedly had for each other. I’ve read plenty of age gap books but this one didn’t sit well with me. Probably because I have no idea how old Conner was and Saoirse was 18 and just gone off to college. I assumed he was a minimum 10 years older possible 15-20. I felt he was too strong handed with her and although but Conner and Declan said how strong Saoirse was I just didn’t see it. After all she couldn’t leave home for more than a couple of months without being homesick.
If you’re into age gap mob/MC books you may like this. I like my women with a lot more grit then what Saoirse had and Conner seemed more controlling then Alpha

Part of the Sweet but Twisted Christmas series each can be read as a standalone so make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Saoirse is the Irish Mob princess move across country to go to college thinking it would help her get over the one man who owns her heart, the man she loves is her brother’s right-hand man and leaving only proved that misses him, her family, her home just nothing is right without him being near her. Connor sexy as all get out right hand man to the mafia boss, in love with his younger sister the mafia princess he has tried so hard to stay away from her telling himself he didn’t need her but the moment she leaves she takes his heart with her. The magnetic pull between these two can’t be ignored and the harder they tried the stronger the pull but will they get the message fate is trying to get them to understand, will her brother accept them, and can they find happiness along their journey?

🌶️🌶️

Saoirse is the Irish Mob Princess, after her parents died, she only had her brother, Declan, now the head of the crime family. She developed a crush on Conor, her brother's best friend and right-hand man. Not only she didn't get reciprocated, but Conor started to avoid her like the plague. Heartbroken, she enrolled in college in Cali so she could mend her broken heart and move on. Both of them are miserable and when she returns, Conor is done running and decides to take her anyway....

This is an age-gap, brother's best friend romance set in the Irish mafia world. Brother's best friend not my favorite trope, I always find the reason the brother doesn’t approve/the mc thinks he won't approve is ridiculous. If you're "BEST FRIEND" is not good enough for her, who will? Let her be a nun? I'm glad this one didn't drag Declan's reaction, turns out he was cool about it. Conor is the usual alpha male hero who takes what he wants and jealous possessive AF. So this was supposed to be a mafia romance, but there's nothing about the crime or action involved at all, so more like contemporary. This is a companion piece to the main book, with Declan and Roisin as the MC. I quite enjoy this book, so I may check that out.

His love. His devotion. His loyalty.

Saoirse wants it all but fears she has nothing, her hurt and pain drip from the page as she mentally prepares to go home and see Conor again. We have met Saoirse and Conor previously in earlier books, and whilst she is a mafia princess, you cannot help but like Saoirse. She hasn't had a 'normal' upbringing and craves anonymity and freedom...until she has it. She then finds she is lonelier than ever and still trusts no-one, but unknown to her, moving across the country has unleashed the beast and returning home will free him from his cage!
Conor is darkness, shadows and pain, he is mafia through and through, but Saoirse is his light, his princess and his reason for breathing. The minute she returns he loses all control of his beast and has to claim her, apologise to her, prove his love to her and ruin her, because whilst he is her ruin...she is his redemption. Dark and light, pain and sweetness, passion and love, he worships and protects every part of her and their relationship together.
A steamy, dirty and passionate read on Kindle Unlimited..

Sweet Ruin is part of the Sweet but Twisted Christmas series. It is a short and steamy, OTT, age-gap, irish mob, girl gets her brother's best friend romance. I have been so excited for Conor's story ever since Betrayal and Ruin, and it did not disappoint. Conor is the scrappy, hunky, second in command to Declan of the Boston Irish mob. He is also Declan's best friend. Saoirse is Declan's little sister who is in college and had moved to California to try and get over Declan. Declan pushed her away before she left, afraid he wasn't good enough and that Declan wouldn't approve. But now that she is back, he is claiming her. He realizes how much he loved and missed her while she was gone. What will she say? Will she forgive him? And what about Declan? The chemistry was hot 🔥 hot 🔥 hot 🔥. I loved Conor going pure Neanderthal whenever anyone looked at her. We do have a bit of drama but end with an amazing HEA. I hope Ronan and Jamie get stories, too!!! I love these characters so much!.

This book is a part of the Sweet but Twisted Christmas series and focuses on Conor and Saoirse. Conor is the right hand man for Saoirse’s older brother Declan (from Betrayal and Ruin). There has been mutual pining and longing from both of them but Conor chose to distance himself quite a bit from Saoirse in recent years. His actions completely broke Saoirse’s heart and drove her to move across the country to go to school. Saoirse moving really drove home the point for Conor that he could no longer continue to push her away and live without her. He was determined to win back her trust and get her to fall for him as soon as she came back for winter break. I loved that Conor began his quest of winning her over immediately and never let up. He knew what he wanted and never wavered in his devotion to Saoirse. This was a great story and a great addition to the series.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a romance between a mafia princess and the second in command, who's also her brother's best friend. Saoirse and Callum have been battling their attraction for years. Enough so that she left home to go to school in California. Connor did his part to push her away but the time has come for them both to stop fighting. Saoirse is going to come home to a possessive, ott, controlling man who will do whatever it takes to keep her this time. What he doesn't realize is that she has her own plans in motion. It's good that they both want the same thing. There is some danger and drama but the story is mainly about them starting their future on shaky ground. I liked both of the characters and the way they interacted. The story felt a little rushed a couple of times but it didn't deter overall from this mafia romance. I also enjoyed how it followed Betrayal and Ruin

Ember Davis joins the multi-author Sweet but Twisted Christmas series with Sweet Ruin, a steamy brother's best friend holiday romance set in her McCarthy Irish Mob world. Conor has wanted the little sister of his best friend - and boss - since she turned eighteen, but had put distance between them even before she moved away to California for college. Now Saoirse is on here way home for Christmas break and he knows it is time to claim her. Saoirse was running from her feelings for Conor when she decided to go to Cali but it only took a semester to know she doesn't belong on the west coast. However, she is surprised by Conor's relentless pursuit the moment she arrives home. Will the right hand man to the head of the Irish Mob be able to prove himself to the woman he loves? An entertaining, steamy age-gap holiday romance.

Fast paced, quick read filled with delicious tension!

Saoirse fled to the other side of the country for college to distance herself from her unrequited crush and to get a fresh start. But it’s not all it’s cracked up to be, and she finds herself missing home, her brother,…and Conor…

Conor pretended not to know that his best friend’s very underage sister had a crush on him. He put up a wall, since at the time he didn’t think of her in that way and she was way too young in general. Until Saoirse turned 18 and he really *saw* her. Sure, she was old enough now, but what about his loyalty to her brother? Better to just keep his distance…

After Saoirse left, they both tried to forget. To move on. But they couldn’t. Now she’s back for the holidays, looking better than ever. Can Conor make things right between the two of them so they don’t lose any more time?

I love a MMC who pursues -and protects- what’s his. The look-at-her-and-d!e vibes are sooo good. And the spicy scenes are 🤌🏻

Saoirse (mfc)
Declan (brother of mfc, leader of Boston Irish Mob)

Saoirse left Boston to go to college in California. She left because she's in love with a man she can't have, one who works for her Mob-leading brother. Conor has wanted her for so long but promised himself to remain hands-off. With her coming home, that probably won't last long. Will Declan allow them their love?

This one is not as dark as Declan's and just briefly touches on the gray areas. It was a well written and thought-out storyline. That ring scene was amazing.

Saoirse was an Irish Mob princess, whose brother Declan, kept a close eye on her. When it became time for college, Saoirse decided to go across country to stretch her wing and get away from her crust, Conor, Declan's second.

Conor has always been around and was there when Saoirse grew up. But when she caught his eye, he knew he needed to stay away, but he always had an eye on her, even at college.

Now Saoirse is back and the connection and chemistry between her and Conor ignites when they are near each other. The question is what they will do about it.

Good fast read with heat, passion and a fire that burns hot and explodes on the pages. I love the story and the passion that is on each page.

Best friends, little sister romance. Saoirse moved across the country to go to school to try to get over her crush in her brothers best friend, Connor. She is miserable and thinks that only the heart grows fonder because she can't stop thinking about him. When she goes home for the holidays, how will she be able to handle being around him? Connor realized she had a crush, but she was so young, and then she wasn't. But he couldn't say anything because he couldn't betray his best friend. Then she up and left to move across the country. He plans to set things right when she comes home for the holidays, but is it too late? What will his best friend say when he finds it the lust Connor has for his little sister?

This is such a quick read, with Irish mob and Christmas theme and of course spice.

Saorise the mob princess is studying at a California collage but has decided she no longer enjoys being there. She return home for Christmas break ready to tell her brother and expects to be hiding from her brothers right hand man Conor. Another reason she was studying away from Boston.

Conor is the right hand man to Declan the Boss of the mob. After realising Saorise’s crush he puts distance between them due to her age. When she turns 18 he realises he has a crush on her and becomes obsessed with her.

Can they come together over the holiday and figure out what they both want, or will a protective big brother stop anything from happening.

Sweet Ruin is a fantastic short story in the Sweet but Twisted Christmas series. This is an age gap brother’s best friend romance. Saoirse moves across the country to get away from the only guy she will ever love but can’t, especially since he has distanced himself away from her as much as he can. Conor realizes after Saoirse moves away that he royally messed up by distancing himself from her as much as he has for the last couple years and that no matter what he does, he can’t stop thinking of her or deny his feelings for her any longer. When Saoirse goes back home for Christmas break, she comes face to face with Conor for the first time in a couple of years. Will they be able to have the one thing they want most? This is a quick and fantastic read!!

Irish Mob princess Saoirse (h) hoped that moving across the country to go to college would help her get over her heartache for Conor (H), her mob boss brother’s right had man and best friend, but instead find she misses him more than ever and she misses her familiar surroundings. Conor has finally accepted that he needs Saoirse and intends to make her his and then deal with her brother, Declan. Saoirse returns to Boston and after patching up some emotional hurt, things heat up quickly between Conor and Saoirse. Great to see where Declan and Roisin are. Hot and steamy age gap, mafia lite, forbidden Christmastime romantic quickie.

I loved Sweet Ruin. Conor has been a fool long enough, it’s time to claim Saoirse for his own. Her leaving was the kick in the pants he needed to realize she was the love of his life. Now, it’s time to show her that she is his world. Saoirse has tried to get over Conor but it’s impossible and it’s time to stop running. If he doesn’t want her, then she will have to move on. This is such a sweet story and I loved the characters. I loved how he didn’t wast any time, he just went to claim his woman and start their future. I would definitely recommend this book.

While Sweet Ruin can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading Betrayal and Ruin first for crossover characters...Betrayal and Ruin is another amazing Irish mafia book that takes place in Boston. In Sweet Ruin, Saoirse and Conor have been making their way towards their happily ever after for years. When Conor puts space between them, Saoirse moves to California, only Cali is not the place for her. When she returns home for the holidays Conor is determined to close the distance between them and make Saoirse his. Steamy and beautiful, this book is short and sweet.

Saoirse is away from her home in Boston, going to college in California, and is miserable. She choose a college far from home because the man she wanted didn’t seem to want her back, but she has decided to transfer to a college closer to home.
Conor is miserable without Saoirse, he pushed her away because she’s the little sister of his boss/closest friend, but time without her has made him regret that choice and desperately want to claim her as his.
There are plenty of little bumps along the way, but they get their HEA.

Saoirse had been in love with Conor forever. He was her brothers best friend and underboss. He had distanced himself from her and so she went away to college to get over him. Conor was in love with Saoirse but she was young and his friend/bosses sister. He tried to hide his feelings but when she went away for college he knew he needed to show her how he felt. He never wanted to be so far away from her again. Sweet, steamy romance with amazing chemistry, an OTT protective, loving hero, a little family drama and a wonderful HEA.

I have been waiting for this book since Betrayal and Ruin ended and I was looking forward to reading Saoirse and Conor’s story. I was not disappointed at all. Ember Davis gives us a very sweet and emotional read and I just loved Saiorse and Conor. Their love is to be treasured and even distance could not put out the flame for these two. No drama, just passion and a beautiful romance. A great compliment to Betrayal and Ruin

Saoirse thought going across the country for college would help her get over Conor. She decided that she does not like being so far from home, she plans to tell Declan she is not going back after the holiday.

Conor has had Saoirse watched the whole time she has been in California, to ensure her safety. He pushed her away two years ago but now that she is coming home he plans on making her his. He will first need to make it up to her for hurting her, then he will deal with her brother, his boss.

OMG. This is my first read by Ember but hot da*n did I love it!

First of all, the Irish mafia, HOT! Second, Saroise and Conor…just…I couldn’t put down their story. I longed for more from them. And actually hope to see more. And so much was expressed in such a short time. He was lost without her and she put him back together. It was epic, and yup, swoon-worthy. And those ahem scenes…hot…I need a fan!

It’s out now, so make sure to grab it. Talk about a story getting you in the mood for mobsters!

This is a new author to me and I will say that I will be going back to read more of her books.
The characters are hedge-hawing around each other, because they have feelings, but are afraid to admit or show them.
When she comes home from college, thats when the man decides to reveal that he loves her and isn’t letting her go again.
This is fine with the girl, because she has already decided not to go back and to try to get along with out him.
They finally pull their heads out of their butts and emit to how they feel and tell her family.
Their love is as strong as it could be.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder
Irish mafia princess Saoirse needed space from her overprotective brother, Declan, and his right hand man (and her crush), Conor. However, being on the other side of the country hasn’t changed her heart so she’s going home.
Conor knew he’d made mistakes by distancing himself from Saoirse, something he had to fix because he realised he couldn’t live without her.
Angsty, emotional, steamy and a sweet HEA.

Saoirse is an Irish Mob Princess and she moved across the country to get over her forbidden love for her brother's best friend Connor. But now she's back and sparks are flying between them and Connor wants Saoirse just as bad. This is a steamy, age gap, forbidden romance with family drama, angst, and a perfect ending. Sweet Ruin is a great addition to the multi-author Sweet But Twisted Christmas series. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review. This is a part of the "Sweet but Twisted" series which are each written by a different author and a different couple. This book follows Conor and Saoirse, written in dual POV. It's a Boston Mafia romance, and brothers best friend. I love a brothers best friend troupe. Although Conor made mistakes along the way, I loved him and his devotion to Saoirse. Ugh, such a cute story and very quick read.

I have been excitedly anticipating Conor and Saoirse’s story since I read Declan and Roisin’s story (Betrayal and Ruin). It was worth waiting for! Conor and Saoirse get a second chance at love. The emotion just pours off the page. It’s short and sweet (and steamy) and a great holiday read. And we get to visit with Declan and Roisin quite a bit too! I loved it!.
