“It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.”
― Gabriel García Márquez

90 year old Eddie Winston has never been kissed, but he’s an incurable romantic, ever the optimist, and a true gentleman to boot!

Former university lecturer, Eddie, loves carrying out his voluntary work in a charity shop in Birmingham, UK, sifting through the remnants of others lives, and it’s here that he meets Bella, a young woman who has recently lost her boyfriend who was the love of her life. Though there is a huge gap in their ages, this meeting will transform into a most beautiful platonic friendship that will change both their lives for the better.

What can I say about this beautifully written book that hasn’t already been said? Well honestly I can’t. It’s warm and funny, moving and optimistic. As characters go you just can’t improve on Eddie, he’s a truly wonderful human being, and we would all benefit from an Eddie in our lives. A lovely story.

The much anticipated follow up to the wonderful One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot is an equally wonderful read.

Meet 90 year old Eddie Winston, in a previous life he was a university lecturer and now he works in a charity shop in Birmingham with Marjie. Now, Eddie has quite the backstory but that would be telling and despite his obvious gentle and charming personality, he’s never been kissed. His newfound young friend in grief stricken Bella, who he meets via the shop, informs him that it’s never, ever too late to find love. So, he is indeed looking for love and is it never too late??

Oh Eddie, Eddie what an absolute diamond of a bloke you are and I love every moment of reading about you, your past life and your present day one, surrounded by an equally fantastic cast of characters. Bella, eclectic in her dress sense despite the dourness of her Sainsbury’s uniform, is absolutely brilliant and despite the huge age gap, her friendship with Eddie proves that age is no barrier, and it’s a thing of beauty. Marjie is great fun as are Ham and Cheese (you’ll have to read it to find that out!) and Emmeline, but let’s not forget Pushkin the guinea pig. It’s so refreshing to read a gentle and captivating story with quirky characters that are all so immensely likeable. It’s quite simply warms the heart, it’s a read with a smile but with some moving moments of loss. It’s beautifully written with some excellent dialogue some of which makes me laugh out loud.

Fabulous. Read it, you won’t regret it!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to. Penguin Random House, Transworld, Doubleday for for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I loved ‘The One Hundred Years of Leni and Margot ‘so when I was offered this book, I was really looking forward to reading it. The copy I read would have benefited from some further editing, hence the 4 stars not 5, but the intrinsic story is wonderful.

Eddie is 90 and after a career in academia he is now volunteering in a charity shop. There he meets Bella who at 24 has lost the love of her life and is grieving. When Bella brings some of Jake’s belongings to the charity shop and unlikely friendship grows and blossoms and they are both soon involved in healing each other’s lives. Bella to get over Jake and start grieving properly and living again – and Eddie who has searched for love his whole life after his heart was broken as a young man by Bridie Bennet, and who has never been kissed.

Eddie Winston is a warm hug in a book, and you won’t want to stop during the final quarter as you will be heavily invested in Eddie and Bella’s stories.

Eddie Winston is a heart-lifting story about the power of intergenerational friendship and finding love in unexpected places!

Eddie is ninety years old. He has lived and loved, but he has never been kissed. A true gentleman and incurable romantic, Eddie spends his days volunteering at a charity shop, where he sorts through the donations of the living and the dead, preserving letters and tokens of love, just in case someone wants them back at some time. It's there that he meets Bella, a troubled young woman who, at 24 years old, has just lost the love of her life.

I absolutely loved Bella and Eddie who form the most unlikely of friendships! The book goes back and forth from the 1960s to the present. The chapters taking place in the 1960s are marked, so there is no confusion.

Many thanks to both #HarperPerennial and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Eddie Winston is Looking for Love It has an expected publication date of December 31, 2024.

I love this book with a fierce, protective love. It’s so, so sweet.

You will fall in love with Eddie Winston and his young friend, Bella. Eddie is the best, and I definitely want to be his friend. The conversations between him and everyone he meets are engaging, and Eddie’s thoughts and observations will often make you burst out laughing. He’s hilarious.

Bella finds out that Eddie has never been kissed, and she promptly sets out to remedy that. Hijinks ensue!

This is a must-read!! Coming September 2024.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for the eARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Having read The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by this same author, I was keen to read this next book. Eddie Winston is Looking for Love is another story with inter-generational characters and I must tell you – I loved Lenni and Margot but I absolutely adored Eddie Winston.

Eddie is 90 years old and has never been kissed. The reader discovers the background to this nonagenarian’s life and the story moves seamlessly between timelines of a younger Eddie when he was an academic in 1965 and the present day. It is a story that will bring a lump to the throat with its poignancy, regret and missed opportunities. Eddie is far from being a miserable man though. It was his sunny attitude, his love of quirky clothes and young at heart optimism that made the book so special.

Bella is 24 years old and dealing (not very well) with her own heartbreak. She comes across Eddie whilst he is working in a charity shop. She has several items to donate but Eddie senses that Bella may not be quite ready to relinquish all of the items just yet and saves them for his secret ‘Eddie Shelf’ at home. A place where he stores for safekeeping any donated personal items such as photographs, letters or ‘junk’ that have no monetary value whatsoever but have such a unique personal value that he simply cannot bear to throw them away.

“I sort through the donations made by the living and the dead and I put a price tag on the souvenirs of someone else’s life”.

The developing friendship between Bella and Eddie was lovely to see, the two just gelled with their shared lunches in Pigeon Park and Bella took it upon herself to find Eddie someone to love – so that he could have that first kiss. What follows is a humorous and compassionate tale involving dating apps and finding that elusive ‘one’.

Eddie and Bella were undoubtedly the stars of the show but there were several supporting characters deserving of a commendation. Eddie’s charity shop boss Marjie with her love of beef drinks was truly eccentric but very loveable, as was Cheese and Ham with his man bun and routines. And I couldn’t not mention Emmeline, a wonderfully brash and charismatic character.

Set mainly in Birmingham, this was a fairly quick read, although that was possibly because I was glued to the book at every opportunity. The book made me smile and I was willing Eddie to find that special someone, and if he couldn’t, then well, just someone to make him happy. Amongst the humour there were emotional tugs at the heart which nearly broke me.

Beautifully written with captivating characters this will definitely be on my list for favourite books of the year. I couldn’t have loved it more and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Ah, be still my heart. This is such a sweet story and I couldn’t love it more.

Eddie is 90 years old and has never been kissed. When his young friend, Bella, discovers this little nugget about him, she makes it her mission to find Eddie that first kiss. Eddie and Bella have the sweetest friendship. They have both endured sadness in their lives but finding each other has been both of their great joys. Eddie has wormed his way into my heart and I felt such warmth and happiness reading about his days and his beautiful outlook on life.

Do yourself a favor and read this. I predict you’ll love it as much as I did. I’d give this more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you, NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the advanced reader copy.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for my ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be published December 31, 2024.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and she’s only written 2 books! While I enjoyed “The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot” I felt this book was much deeper.

I was immediately engaged with this book and the characters. A boy named Ham and Cheese. A mannequin who gets clothed in the thrift shop clothes. An unlikely friendship between 20-something Bella and 90 year old Eddie. There is so much to love about this book. You will laugh and cry. Themes include friendship, loneliness, death, regrets, missed opportunities and love.

I loved that Eddie Winston would “steal” things from the thrift store, things he knew were donated in haste and he held onto them hoping the owner might come back.

I appreciated the short chapters. It made for a quick read. My only complaint was there was a lot going on and at times it felt disjointed. The story unfolds in past and present, in letters and with many characters.

This is a wonderful, heart-warming story and I highly recommend it.

The novel tells the story of Eddie, who at 90 years old, has experienced love but has still not had his first kiss. The he meets Bella - 24 and grieving for her lost love - and the two strike up an unlikely friendship as Bella becomes determined to help find Eddie love and that all important kiss. This story js absolute beaut! Eddie’s character is so full of positivity and optimism that he just radiates warmth and, just like Bella supports Eddie, he also helps her in dealing with her grief and giving her life focus again and they have a joyous friendship which filled my cup up!

I also loved the #nonlinearnarrative with the #flashbacks to a younger Eddie and Bridie Bennett, the woman who had held his heart for all these years. I love how a #backstory always supports a present day narrative so well, enabling us to understand more about a character and their life and it was lovely to see a young Eddie - so full of truth and life as well as meeting poor Bridie, who I really felt for!

A wonderful follow-up novel from this author - very different to #lenniandmargot in lots of ways (not as sad, definitely; more hopeful, very likely) but still with the multi generation friendships, the histories that shape the characters and a resilient warmth of voice!

I’m crying! I’ve just finished the book and it was perfection. Eddie, you are an incredible man. Bella, you are also perfection as a work in progress.

As a man of ninety who has never had his first kiss, Eddie still has an open and loving heart. He knows love through friendship but his only romantic love was for an already married woman in the sixties. Having never acted on that love, he remained commit to her and the notion of her.

Enter Bella, a young woman whose boyfriend has died. Through lunch in the park, these two help each other and have met at the perfect time.

There are so many facets to this novel, I could never explain them all - I highly recommend you read it!

Thank you to the publisher for a print ARC at the ALA conference!

Oh this book.It was utterly wonderful.90 year old Eddie was one of the best characters I have ever come across .Despite being elderly he was full of energy, warmth and hope.I loved that he spent his time helping out in a charity shop engaging with the customers and the manager Margie before going home to his beloved guinea pig Pushkin.
He was unable to be with the love of his life in his younger days so when he meets young Bella who has lost the love her her life she sets off on a quest to find Eddie someone to love. The relationship between them both is a joy and as they go on their journey to find Eddie his lady their path takes Eddie back to his past love.
With warmth ,humour, kindness and love at the heart of this book it is an utter joy to read.
I adored 100 Years Of Lennie And Margot but this one is up there with my fave books ever

Having read and loved The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot, I was keen to read Eddie Winston is Looking for Love.
Eddie is a lovely old gentleman, working in a charity shop in central Birmingham, he cares about the donations he receives. One day when a young woman brings in the possessions of a boyfriend who has recently died, he holds them back, knowing she will likely return to collect them.
And so begins a friendship than spans generations as Eddie helps Bella to deal with her grief and see a future and she helps him to find love, because at the age of 90, he has never been kissed.
This was just the loveliest heart-warming story of friendship and love. I enjoyed Eddie looking for love using online dating apps and I liked that despite being alone, he was still a lovely man, not bitter about the way his life has turned out. He fell in love with a woman called Bridie when he was younger but she was married and they didn’t follow through on their feelings.
The most heart-warming of reads with a cast of wonderful characters, I loved this. Eddie and Bella are just wonderful and the books is full of charm and kindness. A must read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Editor. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I should just say: go and read this book! You can thank me later! It would be accurate and it would be true, too. This book is like chicken soup for the soul. Or like chocolate. Or you cup of hot chocolate while you are all cozied up on your coach. It is the sunshine after a storm, when you see the colors so clearly and so neatly. It is a fresh breeze and a warm hug. It’s every good thing you can think of.

Eddie, our MC, is ninety years old, and he works in a charity shop. Retirement wasn’t for him, so he decided to keep busy. And he is such a pure soul, easygoing, and able to find joy everywhere. He is a masterpiece in human shape, he is so good! And a bit later on we meet Bella, a young girl who soon becomes Eddie’s wingman. She is a counterpoint of a sort for Eddie, but she has a great heart and she is so cute and fun!
And we get to meet a lot of interesting characters thanks to these two, all of them full of heart (well, almost all) and it is good to see such good vibes and goodness in people. Sometimes I need to be reminded that people can be good, and this book does it magistrally.

This book is about a lot of things: it is about the joy of small things, but it is also about love, about life, about people, and about happiness. But it’s also about pain and loss and loneliness, and it treats all these different themes in such a delicate way… the author is amazing, and she is able from the start to grab your attention, subtly and lightly, and just like that, you’ll find yourself invested in Eddie story, in all the small things that he does and that make him happy. And his take on life is pretty unique, but so beautiful! This book is chock full of beautiful moments.
I don’t really want to say a lot about this book, because discovering all the small things, and all that happens is a joy in itself, and you should experiment it by yourself. It will bring you so much joy!

Once started it was very hard to put down, the author is incredibly masterful in her art, and this book is enchanting and captivating, and you would find yourself immersed in the story, and so invested in the characters, without noticing. And then it would be too late: you’ll be ensorcelled and there would be nothing you can do about it. You just need to keep reading and see what the book will bring you next.

And the writing is beautiful. It made you want to savor it, and to take in all that the book has to offer! My only complaint, and I know it’s not a real complaint, is about the ending. The last chapters of the book made me want to turn page after page so fast! because I needed to know what would happen next, I just wanted to fly between them, because I needed to know. Needed to. But at the same time, I had to slow down, because the writing is so beautiful and I didn’t want to miss a thing, but I needed to know! The ending was akin to an amazing thriller when you can’t put it down because you need to know what will happen. The thrill was the same, even if the vibes were completely different. But really, it was so strong the urge to devour page after page, and yet the desire to not miss a thing was slowing me down. It was sort of maddening, but in a good way?

Anyway, this book is so good! It is beautiful, it is uplifting, it is heartwarming and I loved it to pieces. You need this book in your life!

Eddie Winston is ninety years old and spends his days volunteering at a charity shop in Birmingham, sorting through donations and taking care of sentimental items that someone may one day come back for. Bella is twenty four years old and first encounters Eddie when she donates some of her boyfriend Jake's belongings after he tragically passed away. They strike up an unlikely friendship, spending their lunch breaks together in Pigeon Park and, when Eddie reveals that he's never been kissed, Bella makes it her mission to help him find love because, no matter how old you are, it's never too late to find happiness.

This latest contemporary fiction by Cronin is a dual timeline, set in Birmingham, in the present day and back in the sixties. Eddie Winston is happy plodding along with his current life, looking after his guinea pig Pushkin and helping out Marje in the charity shop but he's never forgotten his earlier life as a lecturer at the university and the woman he fell in love with, Bridie Bennett, a forbidden love who was already taken by another, so Eddie never took it further but he's never stopped thinking about her. He is such a kind, caring and adorable man who looks out for others and the friendship he develops with Bella is so sweet, helping her to cope with her grief over Jake. This book is filled with fabulous characters, even Ham and Cheese Man (you'll have to read it to find out) but Eddie is my absolute favourite and I would defy anyone that picks up this book not to fall in love with him instantly, we all need an Eddie in our lives.

I'd like to thank Random House UK, Transworld and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Marianne Cronin has done it again! What a phenomenal story! I LOVED The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot, so when I saw Eddie Winston is Looking for Love, I was super excited, and it didn't disappoint. Side Note: If you are a fan of Lucy Gilmore, add both of these books to the top of your TBR list.

This story radiates empathy, compassion, and love. We follow 90-year-old Eddie and 24-year-old Bella as the unlikely duo navigates the aftermath of the death of Bella's boyfriend. Their relationship not only proves my theory that age is irrelevant but also topped off my faith in humanity. In a crazy world, I was reminded that there are still good people out there. I loved Bella's rebellious side, Eddie's sense of style, and that they were so supportive of each other. I need an Eddie of my own to be my bestie!

A huge thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperback for a copy of Eddie Winston is Looking for Love in exchange for an honest review. I guarantee this will be in my top 5 books read in 2024.

***I received the ARC from NetGalley*** 90-year-old Eddie Winston is looking for love, and young Bella has lost her love. The pair meet in the thrift shop Eddie works in and become friends. This book is super light-hearted and whimsical. Just a feel good book really, with some parts that gave me a good chuckle. I enjoyed the short chapters and I truly wish I had Eddie’s glass half-full perspective on life. This book had multiple POV’s. Honestly it would have been 5 stars for me if I didn’t feel so confused about who or what was going on in the beginning. The last 50% really took off and made my heart really happy.

Some notable quotes for me from the book:
- “eddie greets every bird he sees like an old friend. it’s weird. but it’s his sign. , i wouldn’t mind looking mad if you sent me a sign.” - Bella 🥺🥺🥺
- Eddie says “Perhaps I am too old to be looking for love,” this book says NEVER.

4* Eddie Winston is Looking for Love by Marianne Cronin is warm, uplifting, quirky and a hoot. If you loved Margot and Lenni, you’ll enjoy this one just as much, if not more or more (and if you haven’t read One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot - get to it!).

Eddie is a good egg. At 90 he works in a Birmingham charity shop, where he rescues items of sentimental value which people might return for. When Bella comes into the shop to donate items from her boyfriend, an unlikely bond is formed between the two of them. And when Bella finds out that Eddie is still awaiting his first kiss, she sets Eddie a challenge…

Told across two timelines; modern day Eddie and Bella and 1960s Eddie and his first (and only) love, this is a laugh out loud, gut-wrenching and ultimately uplifting book. The characters are fabulous, the small details zing from the page and the last 3rd must be read on one go for required peace of mind. It’s a stunner. Thoroughly recommended.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

What a gorgeous story. I’m a huge fan of Lenni and Margo so couldn’t resist reading about Eddie in this new one from Marianne Cronin.
From the very beginning this made me smile while reading - Eddie and Bella have such a wonderful rapport and came into each other’s lives when they both needed it.
At times this is heartbreaking, but I found I was smiling through the tears as we got to know Eddie and Bella and their heartbreak over the years. The kindness they show eachother is beautiful and I loved the adventure they go on together.
Eddie had lived such a rich life but had always had that something missing - his collection of the memories from the charity shop his way of keeping those memories alive.

Absolutely loved this one. In fact, I read almost the whole thing in one sitting, and couldn't wait to be done with work today to finish the last little bit to see how it ends. I was a little skeptical about the story at first. A 90 year old (Eddie) and a 20 something (Bella) becomes friends as they are both dealing with the loss of the love of their life. Eddie's happened decades ago, and he has never experienced a kiss. Bella's happened recently when her boyfriend died. This book is so sweet and heartwarming. I absolutely fell in love with all the characters. It will make you laugh and cry, and warm your heart. This book is set to publish in September of 2024. Put it in your TBR list now! I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

OMG I love Eddie so much and want to be his friend so badly! What a wonderful book, I truly loved it and it will stay with me. I thought all the characters were well written, colourful and added their own uniqueness to the tale. The various pov’s and timelines worked so well along with the short chapters and as for Pushkin, well he was just fab! This had me giggling one minute and ugly crying the next, I highly recommend it!

The sun streamed through the shop windows as he sifted through a new box of donations. There were always unusual things and special treasures coming into the shop. Things that have lived a thousand lives and things that were just starting their journeys. He smiles as he pulls one thing after another out of the cardboard box and then sees something glimmering at the bottom… his heart picks up its pace.

Eddie Winston is Looking for Love is a contemporary fiction following ninety year old, Eddie. Eddie works in a charity shop to occupy his days and one fact about him… he’s loved, but never been kissed. With the help of his dear young friend Bella, they’re determined to find Eddie the love of his life.

This book was so sweet and heartfelt. I loved it! The friendship between Bella and Eddie was beautiful. Reading Eddie’s story made me want to hug the book tight and I loved the flashbacks to his early days and seeing everything Eddie had experienced. It’s never too late!

Pick this book up if you’re a fan of A Man Called Ove, or The Reading List. Also if you love reading about the older generation and learning from them.
