A Night to Remember #3

Tangling with the Boss

Rate this book
I tried to quit my job.

Now my grumpy boss won’t let me out of his sight.

For the last four years, Leo Corbin has barely tolerated me. He rolls his eyes when I bring him homemade flapjacks; he grumbles when I chat his ear off in the elevator. He’s made it clear, time and time again, that my perkiness is a problem he suffers through.

Then I hand in my resignation letter… and the boss loses his freaking mind.

Now he won’t let me out of arm’s length. Won’t stop fussing over me, and giving me flowers and other gifts, and growling when other men get too close.

Jeez. Does he really want me to stay as his assistant this badly?

Or is Leo Corbin fighting for his wife?

Tangling with the Boss is a short and steamy instalove story, starring a grumpy boss who nearly missed the soulmate right under his nose.

"It’s a beautiful day for heartbreak."

I really wanted to read something big and poetic for my 1000th book but after being in a slump for WAY too long I thought why not just read a novella instead 💀. And I loved this one 😭.

"Christ, it’s like she was raised by golden retrievers. No one can be that perky—it’s not natural."

I loved the dynamic between these two- it was soso good. The book did feel a bit impersonal in the sense that it was so short- I wished that this was longer because the climax did feel rushed- but all in all, this was so fun and I loved all the heartache/ yearning in this (I want more of them 😭).

This is a novella, so there's nothing much to expect from it.

Hazel wants to quit being an assistant because she's been in love with her boss for the last four years and can't do it anymore. Leo didn't accept it and said that life is meaningless without her. He said he wanted her since the first time he saw her four years ago, but only realized how much he's in deep when she gave her resignation letter—so much for Hazel being the "sun rose in his gloomy universe," but whatever.

The story happens over the course of less than 24 hours. And as usual, which is also annoying, she's a V-card holder. I wouldn't have read this had I known that. As for Leo, the way I saw and interpreted it, he's not, but it was freaking vague, so I got even more annoyed.

I won't rate it because this didn't work for me. But other readers might appreciate it.

I love the little bit of angst that Cassie Mint can get into some of her books.

This one was fun but it's third on my list of Cassie Mint uncomfortable ways to have the sex. Not as bad as taking her missionary style on the side of a pool or against a wooden pole with splinters in her back but on her knees on a sun lounger is super uncomfortable.

Also, I would like her to team up with another author to actually write out a full story because I would've like to see him actually think and change rather than have it happen in two seconds.

Good

Safety and Spoilers

Completely safe. No ow/om drama. H’s past is not mentioned and h is a virgin.
The H is surly and grumpy and h says that he has said mean things to her. I wish this was talked about between them and that he acknowledged his behaviour and apologized for it. H believes he is unloveable and I’m not sure if he actually had feelings for her during the four years they worked together.
No abuse on page and no cheating

1.5☆ I need some heart, even in my short n' smutty novellas! The characters seemed wooden, like a 1-dimensional sketch. I’ve enjoyed a couple of Cassie Mint’s short ones (Fixer Upper & Harbor Master), but this definitely didn’t work for me. 🫤

This was a steamy office romance. It was a short story with a good flow. I liked that this series has a clear continuity but that each story can be read as a standalone. Leo and Hazel had great chemistry and I really enjoyed reading their story.

Dang, that was so good!

The only thing that was kinda weird was the sex scene. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for the good ol' juicy bits.

And maybe it's just me, but when you give me a novelette with the 'i loved you from afar' main theme, I expect a lot of romantic scenes, especially when they first bump uglies.

Here, it was a rough doggy style humping out in the open by the pool and it was disappointing that we didn't get the sweet loving first that I hoped for so much.

This way it felt like it was all physical, and I don't like that in my books.

Hence the missing star.
But still, it was soooo good.!!!

A pleasant quick diversion

I do enjoy a good grumpy/sunshine romance, and Hazel is such a sweetheart! Leo is less grump and more unbelievably clueless, especially for a man who is such a mega businessman. I was pleased to finally make it to the heat, but the HEA was a bit banal.

Cute and sexy with the grumpy boss
4 stars

I’ve really enjoyed the ‘A Night to Remember’ series of which this is the third - and final, I think - book. Each book stands alone and comes with Cassie Mint’s great blend of insta-love, obsessive (in the best way) heroes, smart, feisty heroines alongside delicious shenanigans, sex and romance. This is Cassie Mint’s wheelhouse and she’s one of the best at it.

Leo Corbin relies on his personal assistant to manage his business and his life. When she decides to quit, his perfect world goes up in smoke and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He knows he doesn’t want to lose Hazel but, at first, he doesn’t realise why. I absolutely loved Leo’s slow descent into the realisation that he’s in love with Hazel. It’s hilariously seamless how his thoughts go from keeping her as his assistant, slowly, slowly changing until he’s borderline obsessed with keeping her as his wife. He was a little bit of an odd duck but I definitely warmed up to him as the story went on.

Hazel has a teensy tiny crush on her boss that she’s been harbouring for 4 long years as his assistant. She’s almost certain he barely sees her and finds her annoying chirpy and talkative the rest of the time. She can’t take it anymore and decides that it’s time to move on. But suddenly Leo is behaving strangely and not wanting to leave her side. It’s definitely a flip where now Hazel is the one side-eyeing her boss and telling him no - instead of him to her. I liked her a lot and was rooting for her both to stay strong and not let Leo win - and also to fall into his arms and let them both win.

And they definitely both win in this book. There’s a lot of build up to their first time but when we get there it’s as fast and furious as you’d like and plenty hot - even if they’ve got that swimming pool to cool off in. It was steamy, sexy and perfect for them as a couple.

This was a quick (less than an hour) read that I couldn’t - and didn’t - put down from start to finish. It’s fun, cute and oh so sexy - the perfect read if you’re a fan of the insta-love romance sub-genre and more specifically, of a grumpy boss blindsided by love for his assistant. 4 stars from me.

Tangling with the Boss by Cassie Mint is the first book I have read in A Night to Remember Series. This was a great story and I am curious if the other two were as good as this one. The plot for this book was fun, exciting, original and entertaining. Both Hazel and Leo were wonderful characters who I adored. Leo was stuffy, he was grumpy, he was generous and good at fooling himself into believing he had no feelings for Hazel outside of the office. Hazel has been obsessed with Leo from the minute she began working for him and it has only continued to grow deeper. Leo is Hazel's everything and it would make everything so much easier if she were his everything too.

Hazel is tired of being the bane to Leo's existence. This is why she is going to turn in her letter of resignation and move on. Hazel needs to protect and guard her heart because after four years she just can't take it anymore. Leo's very existence has been left shaken and fear is quickly seizing his heart after Hazel turns in her resignation. He can't lose Hazel and will do anything to keep her by his side no matter the costs. His life ceases to exist if he can't have Hazel by his side. Will Leo be able to convince Hazel to rescind her letter of resignation before it is too late?

I was excited to jump back into the A Night to Remember series. We have been seeing teases of Leo & Hazel.

Leo has been the most cynical and grump of them all. I don't think any of us saw him breaking. He has been working with the sunshine to his rainstorm, Hazel. She always has lots to say, cheerful, and there....always there.

She finally hits her breaking point, knowing she'll never get return feelings for the boss she's been in love with for a year. A whole year. Yet, when she tries to quit, he is having none of it....NONE!!

Leo is stuck thinking in boss mode of how he can fix this problem. He always pays her far too much, and every perk known to man. He pulls her into errands of trying to do things to please her, but she remains strong....not sure how, but she does.

Its almost cute watching brute Leo fall over Hazel, trying hard to make her break into what will make her stays.

Well folks...when that damn breaks....BOY does it break. Like The Dam break!!!! It such sweet victory when Leo finally sees the gift and love his has for Hazel. Its good satisfaction to see her finally get what she ways, but yet have Leo practically begging at her feet!!! Full of Squeals!!!!!

Do yourself a favor.....get this series, a quiet seat, and room to let the squeals run free!!

I gotta tell you, this book was pretty funny.  It is NOT your usual boss/employee romance.  The FMC is in love with the MMC and so she gave him a resignation letter and he loses his ever loving mind.

Did she cave immediately when he begs her to stay?  Nope!  I love that she stood her ground because she would be miserable to continue to work for him without him returning her affections.

Cue the obvious, but still cute realization of the MMC that he loves her too and then the craziness ensues of him trying everything imaginable to get her stay lol.  I admit, it had its angst going on, but I appreciated the bit of comedy that went along with it.

It was great.  It’s a quick read, funny with some steam and worth a read if you love Cassie’s books or any quick romance.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. The opinions above are 100% my own & 100% genuine!

Tangling with the Boss is the third installment in Cassie Mint’s A Night To Remember series. In it, readers watch the romantic journey of Hazel and Leo. Hazel is Leo’s secretary. She is bouncy, cheerful, and very competent. Leo on the other hand is grumpy. Both are attracted to each other and fight it. After several years, Hazel turns in her letter of resignation. Leo won’t accept it. Giving her two-week notice, Hazel pours all her efforts into making the last event a success. Leo is determined to change her mind. Will he be successful? Will their tight control over their feelings break lose? To find out, you must read this book.

In this second chance at love romance, Ms. Mint does a remarkable job utilizing literary devices. Her dialog, both conversational and internal monologues, are outstanding. Readers get a fuller understanding of their backstories, their pain, and their happiness. Her lead characters are multi-dimensional. The secondary characters are also interesting and the camaraderie between them and the lead characters is enjoyable. This character-driven plot line moves at a nice pace.

and she's like, "okay."

FFS, lol.
took 4 years for both of them to finally jump on each other, good grief.

Personal assistant Hazel (h) has secretly crushed on her boss, Leo (H), who only seems to view her sunny nature as an affront to him. She decides that she must quit in hopes of getting over her feelings for him and submits her letter of resignation, but Leo refuses to accept that she’s leaving. He’s been secretly in love with her too and the realization that he’s about to lose her has him offering her everything under the sun, except the one thing she wants. As the two finally allow their feelings for one another to come to the forefront, things begin to heat up between them, and Leo and Hazel may just get what they truly want, one another. Hot and steamy grump-sunshine, requited love romance with a side of angst.

This is the 3rd book in the A Night To Remember series featuring the sweet grumpy/sunshine, office romance between Leo and Hazel. Hazel is such a sweet and strong woman it's hard to believe that she's been in love with her grumpy boss Leo for 4yrs and he didn't even realize how much Hazel meant to him until he almost loses her. Hazel finally decides to throw in the towel after 4yrs of being in love with Leo her grumpy boss so she turns in her resignation letter and Leo goes crazy. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this sweet grumpy/sunshine, office romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

Cassie Mint does it again. A classic ott alpha caveman grumpy cinnamon roll hero + an adorable sunshine heroine to knock him on his ass + the delicious angst of mutual pining and assumed unrequited love that Cassie has knocked out of the park in this series. Loved this. 4 stars!
February 21, 2024
Don’t let their names fool you. Hazel and Leo are NOT the old couple holding hands in the park. They will be the old couple having sex in the park. This story is chock full of feelings: longing, despair, fear but also warmth, love and joy. The theme is a basic oblivious boss with a love struck assistant. Unrequited, and unspoken, love leads to Hazel’s handing in her notice which throws her boss into a panic. His efforts to keep her from leaving him are both cute and ineffective. The story follows their ups and downs to happily ever after with lots of the good stuff along the way. Hard five stars.

Grumpy/sunshine office romance

A combination of two of my favorite tropes. Hazel is all sunshine but her boss, Leo, is the epitome of grumpy. His perpetual frown causes her to think he doesn’t even like her and so she must leave before her heart gets broken. Leo would never stand for that. Not when his whole world revolves around her! This is a bit of a slow burn but the build up is worth it. There is no OW or OM drama and no 3rd act breakup. There is fantastic characters, spicy heat, and a great ending. I would read more about Hazel and Leo if I could because I really loved these characters.

Better than the other 2 in this serious but not the best Cassie ever did.

I liked the grumpy/sunshine aspect and I liked that she quit before he realized he couldn’t lose her. Otherwise the reasons for hanging back before felt weak. In the last book he had a pact with the composure not to get into relationships because they are from broken families and are “broken men” and that factored heavily into that book. But it was barely mentioned in this book. So then why ignore her for 4 years? Idk.

Virgin FMC. Grumpy/sunshine. Boss/employee. Millionaire MMC. No OMD/OWD. No cheating. No breakup. Pregnancy in 2 year epilogue.

Leo is a grumpy boss with no social skills and Hazel is his assistant who is bright and bubbly, his complete opposite. 4 years of unrequited love forces Hazel to quit, but Leo is not ready to let her go and in fact, wants to keep her, forever.

This short romance is fun, if you don’t expect too much from such a short story. This would have been an amazing book if it were longer and had happened over more than just 24 hours. So much potential for the plot to be filled in with more detail, but is there is still great for a quick read.

The ending is a bit rushed through, but I am a huge fan of Cassie Mint and this story is no exception.
