Set during the French and Indian War, this is a story of Native Americans and their involvement in a colonial conflict over land. It's the story of a Mohican father and son and their beloved friend Hawk-eye and how they end up in the thick of a chase over the two daughters of a British colonel. It's a frontier story, a story of betrayal and deceit as well as loyalty and honor. It's sad almost across the board, let me just say.

Yet, my 10 year old son really enjoyed it. He always wanted me to read more, his only complaint was that it was too short! He got surprised at the right moments, he recognized lies when he heard them - it was just right for his age (even if he didn't like it QUITE enough to want to pick it up and read it himself). For me? It felt very repetitive. Like a wheel turning - people get taken and kidnapped, they escape or get rescued, they get caught again. Lots of chasing and hiding. Not much happened, in my opinion. I only wasn't bored because I love the three main male characters - they are good and true men and I have a hard time NOT imagining Daniel-Day Lewis when I read so that helps :) Three stars just because my son liked it. I'd give it 2 :)

My 7 year old rated it a 3 and my 5 year old a 5 (he said it was one of his favorite books he’s ever read). This is such a good start to this classic American tale. It easily introduces you to the main characters and the hero’s become hero’s to the kids and they feel for Alice and Cora throughout the book.

Classic. Read this to D at the end of his 8th grade year. Even though these books are now much below his reading level, we still enjoy reading these classics together. They are a relatively quick read. We are looking forward to watching the movie together with Dad. (This was great to get back to the books of our choice after spending most of his 8th grade year, reading through the Truman Nominees).

I usually like classic, but this book isn't really fun to read. Mainly because I don't like reading about wars and stuff. I quickly forgot the story, even though I read the edition for starter readers.

But I still remembered that I read it on the way to and back from Kantor Pajak using train with my mom.

Umm, seriously disappointed. I LOVE this movie, it is possibly my all time favorite movie. This is one of those rare instances when the movie it light years better than the book. I hated his style of writing and his views towards woman and American Indians is mildly appalling, even taken into account the views at the time the book was written.

It was really good. The story was great and the short 160ish pages were really easy to read. If you want a fast paced adventure story The Last of the Mohicans is a great choice.

A fascinating adventure story, grounded in American history. As the French and Indian war rages, the two daughters of a British officer prepare to return home. But when, Cora, Alice, and the soldiers who guard them are betrayed by their Native American scout, their safety depends on wily forest tracker Hawkeye and his friends Chingachkook and Uncas--the last of the Mohicans.
