Vince

Watching the love of my life, Theo, fall in love was the hardest thing I’d ever had to endure. Especially as it wasn’t with me!

For years, I’d planned our wedding, but when he announced his engagement to a man I detested, I thought my life was coming to an end.

Silver-edged invitation in the bin, I took advantage of my friend's offer of a villa in the South of France. All expenses paid. I’d be stupid to turn it down.

So, I packed my bags and jetted off to a sun-soaked paradise to lick my wounds.

A disastrous evening out and I’m introduced to Sylvain, the silver fox I never thought I needed.

Would he help me lick my wounds? A guy could hope.

On Warmer Shores is an age-gap MM standalone novel.

Vince was in love with his best friend since childhood but it wasn't returned. A horrible start as Vince gets his big heart crushed by Theo. I felt for poor Vince after the harsh words were said he didn’t need that.

An opportunity opens for a week's holiday in France and Vince jumps at it to get away from the phone calls for a bit of piece and quiet.

A Frenchman catches Vince’s eyes at the airport and they run into each other 2 times before they finally officially meet.

Vince, 28 years has a rough start to his holiday but he had a white knight coming to his rescue in more ways than one.

Sylvain, 48 years was a businessman running the resort and villa.

A good story for Vince and Sylvain’s romance. Written from Vince’s pov until he meets Sylvain in the staring chapters.

Vince has bigger body issues which he puts himself down, instead of loving who he really was. A young man and all innocent of relationships and men for love, but Sy was the perfect gentleman to show him.

Oh I loved the scenes at Theo's wedding and had to burst out laughing at the dramas unfolding. Yeah I warn you not to be drinking hot coffee’s when you get to this part.

The ending of this was just adorable as they both find their HEAs.

Vince & Sylvain
Rating: 3.4 ⭐

- Age Gap (20yrs)
- In Love With Best Friend
- Virgin MC
- Bisexual MC
- Wedding Date
- Vacation Romance
- Not So Fake Relationship
- Rom Com
- Wedding Date

This was a fairly low angst read with some steam. I really liked the couple and how Sylvain made it his mission to have Vince see how great he really was. Sylvain was a great support system for Vince and helped him build up his confidence with all the affirmations.

Vince had been in love with his best friend since they were teens (15yrs of pining) but he always saw himself as the ugly duckling of the friend group. He blended into the background and constantly got passed up by suitors for his two best friends. My heart hurt for him throughout the book with the way he would talk down about himself, how those that should've been there for him were just as bad to him. When his secondary friend group convinces him to go on vacation and have some time and fun for himself for once, it changes his life for the better. Vince ended up on a journey of self-discovery and found out who he really was all this time.

I did like that Vince made choices for his health and appearance for himself and not because someone wanted him to. Sylvain told him multiple times that he liked him just the way he was when they met. I was not a fan of how often he called himself "fat" specifically, it was said a lot in here. Also, I'm petty and what his best friend said to him was unforgiveable. The fact that said friend tries to get with him later in the story after ignoring him for years and treating him poorly, yeah no, go somewhere silly.

Content Warnings:
- Graphic sexual content between consenting adults
- Mild exhibitionism

Vince feels inferior and pathetic, my heart hurt for him, he believes no one wants him. Little does he know.

To recuperate Vince takes a holiday to France. Recuperating from a fight with his best friend who acted as mean as his awful nasty husband-to-be. Ha!, he can forget Vince coming to his wedding.

Here he is in France, France known for its wine and food.
Owww, our sweet Vince is a puppy with wine, thank goodness for Sylvian, who saved him more than once.

Sylvian is an attractive silver fox and is smitten with Vince. If only Vince would believe Sylvian’s feelings are honest. Sylvian offers to go with him to his best friend’s wedding as his plus one.
Sylvian hopes Vince is into more with him, but knowing his self-esteem, he has to convince him of the realness of his feelings.

Watching Vince bloom, from a shy guy with low self-esteem to a daring man who knows what he wants, was more than wonderful.
All together the story was lovely, with hurtful moments but also the best. It felt all so natural, really a lovely read!

First off, can I snuggle Vince forever? This book hit so hard having been through similar feelings that you just felt all of his inner turmoil. First off, Theo needs to be smacked with a clue by four and act like the true friend as Vince & Lexi always have been for him. It takes heartbreak for Vince to do something for himself for a change where he meets Sylvian, an older man who treats Vince as he always should have been. Understandably, these two take things slow, not knowing if they'll see each other again. Vince, in building his confidence, learns to stick up for himself and shows his inner beauty outside even more with the support of a man who always saw him for who he was. Let's also add that I commend Alex for having a book with no penetration. A love story can happen without that step, and they show us this beautifully.

Vince had crushed on his BF Theo forever and Theo never acknowledged it. When Theo told him he was getting married, he was cruel and hurt him so Vince went to France, met Sylvain (a silver fox) and took him to Theo's wedding. Vince had many insecurities and Sylvain was the sweet man to make him feel worthy. Loved the payback! I received a copy of this book through Booksirens and this is my honest opinion.

HEARTFELT AND HEARTWARMING!💕🪙🦊🦄

Poor cute and adorable Vince Murphy 28 really climbs deep into your heart with the beautiful, sweet and timid character he portrays but as Sylvain Ducasse 48 discoveres to his utter delight his petite souris 🐭 has the heart of a lion! And boy can he roar! 🦁

I enjoyed seeing Vince’s immense character and emotional growth while trying to find and better himself while basking in the attention, adoration and compliments of the gorgeous kind and patient French silver fox- Sylvain Ducasse!

A terrible argument between Vince and his best friend and longtime childhood crush Theo leads to Vince leaving to find himself and moving on from Theo but instead he gets an adventure that will change his life for the greater good! Viva la France 🇫🇷

Sylvain was Vince’s quintessential romantic Prince Charming - always coming to his rescue and sweeping him off his feet- or was it fate?
Was Vince his elusive unicorn he has been waiting for? 🦄

Vince is a virgin but the way the story evolves with Sylvain’s patience and guidance and Vince’s growing confidence he could be a side but that is for Sylvain and Vince to discover in the near future…

Theo was a shallow douche who never saw what was always in front of him until it’s too late…

Lexi was the perfect best friend always trying to keep them all together after 15 years of friendship…

A wedding fiasco between Theo and his twat I mean fiancé will bring many revelations- good and bad!

A sweet epilogue filled with endearing moments and more revelations will intrigue and tantalise!

Vince really stole my heart… he goes through life with self esteem issues..feeling like no one really sees him, or loves him for himself. He has a crush on his best friend Theo..who only considers him a friend. An overheated argument ensures between Theo and Vince..they part ways. Vince decides to travel to France on a vacation and things begins to happen for Vince… lots of drama between friends, but easy to follow the storyline, entertaining characters, age gap, Vince has trouble accepting things and changes in his life… I guess I found this a little hard to relate to at his age… MY opinion and the reason for 4 rating. A good read and would recommend.

Holiday of Self-discovery & New Beginnings -- Possible Spoilers

Having read some of Adams's previous works, I went into this book with high hopes. I'm so happy to say that I was not disappointed! After a falling out with his best friend Theo, for whom he's pined for years, Vince goes to a French resort for a much needed vacation. While there, he meets the sweet and older Sylvain. Sparks fly during numerous awkward (and sometimes hilarious) encounters, and Sylvain offers to accompany Vince to the wedding of Theo and his awful fiancé. Will it end in disaster or the HEA that Vince desires?

Vince was such a relatable and sympathetic character from the beginning, constantly belittling and undervaluing himself. I just wanted to give him a big hug. Adams's writing ensures that the reader roots for Vince throughout his journey and feels genuinely proud of the progress he makes. Sylvain is the perfect match for Vince. He's extremely patient and supportive of Vince, always encouraging him to see himself as more.My only real issue was with people trying to convince and guilt Vince into immediately forgiving his supposed friend's cruel words and treatment. I felt that Vince was justified in his hurt/anger and that he deserved better support than that.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book, giving it a solid 4.5 stars. The two MCs were both likeable on their own and even better together! I highly recommend this one! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Poor Vince. He has watched his BFF, Theo, that he has been in love with forever get engaged to the worst man possible. He does what a lot of us do and runs away, he just happens to run away to a beautiful villa in France. There, bad things happen to Vince, but he is saved by suave, older Sylvain. He is the epitome of a debonair French gentleman. Read along as Vince struggles with his insecurities, getting over the fight with Theo and accepting that Sylvain is attracted to him.

Sylvain is an older man that knows what he wants, Vince. But he will be his friend and support until Vince gets onboard with a deeper relationship. One aspect of the book hit home with me due to Vince's mother having dementia. This book turned out to be sweet while dealing with seeing a friend and his true colors, taking care of an ill parent and falling in love over the course of sanity break vacation.

Cute novella!

This is the first book I’ve read by Alex and I enjoyed it. It’s a sweet romance about Vince who decides to go on a vacation after learning that the man he is in love with is getting married to another. While on vacation he meets a hot silver fox. The chemistry between Vince and Sylvain is so good. Slyvain is much older than Vince but he wants nothing more than to give Vince the relationship he deserves. This was seriously a cute romance and I loved the tension between them. If you are looking for a sweet MM romance that’s a quick read this book is for you.

You never know when love is going to strike. This story takes friends, blows open a relationship, announces hurtful thoughts openly and when the dust settles allows a new love to bloom, hurts are then faced and healing begins and soon HEA’S follow our heroes. The storyline is entertaining. The characters are very easy to like and very easy to engage with. I enjoyed their journey and their happiness very much.

Vince...The nerdy, geeky, glasses wearing, portly, shy, good guy. Men don't give him a second look. He's caring, and would do anything to help people who need it, especially his best friends, Lex and Theo (whom he loves). This is quite an emotional rollercoaster, betrayed by Theo, Vince is gutted. At this point I wanted to reach into the book and wring Theo's neck.

Vince is so relatable with his insecurities and doubts. How could any gorgeous, sexy man want him? He really did need a hug. Fortunately, Sylvain sees past Vince's insecurities, and helps him see who he really is. The way in which Vince blossoms under Sylvain's notice and care is so lovely. The two compliment one another so well. It did take Sylvain a while to persuade Vince that he loved him, so deep are his insecurities. Fortunately, Sylvain doesn't rush Vince, he simply persists in showing a lot of care, consideration, and love. The story takes Vince from the depths of despair to the highs of transformation! The ending is so sweet, lovely to read Vince and Sylvain's hard earned HEA.

Great Story

So good to see the underdog come out on top. Don’t often see low self esteem in stories, but this turned out to be an excellent example of what a boost to confidence can mean to the person dealing with it. Fun story. Always did like the age gap stories and of course the HEA.

Arc Review

Vince Murphy has had feelings for his best friend for fifteen years, but instead of telling him, opted to be his friend. Theo (who is not the nicest) announces he is getting married to Greg (an idiot, who doesn't like Vince) at their best friend Lexi’s wedding. Theo is mean to Vince, causing them to argue. Feeling rejected, down and upset, one of Vince’s other friends offers his villa in the south of France as a much needed get away for a week. Vince takes him up on the offer.

Sylvain Ducasse is someone who keeps bumping into Vince while on holiday. Sylvain is bi-sexual and is finding Vince more and more attractive, the more time they spend together. He wants to make Vince’s holiday memorable in more ways than one.

Vince finds it hard to believe that anyone will find him attractive. He is a virgin, and has body hang ups, as he is over weight. Theo realises he has made a mistake in being horrible to Vince, and vies for his apology. Sending a wedding invite, Theo wants to know if Vince will be at the wedding. He needs a date, and Sylvain offers, as he works in the UK as well as France.
Could Vince finally get his HEA.

On Warmer Shores is the first book I have read by author Alex. J. Adams. The writing flows wonderfully and the character development is lovely. Vince is in need of someone to love him, and Sylvain is the sweetheart he needs. This standalone novel features an age gap, fake boyfriends and first time. Grab this holiday read, you won’t regret it.

This book is a low angst, low heat, age gap romance. However don’t let that put you off reading this tale and whiling away a few hours whilst you soak up a wonderful story!

Vince - a 28 year old virgin - lives in his best friends shadow, believing himself in love with Theo, belittled, overlooked and no self esteem. Sylvain is a soft hearted silver fox French man who’s been burnt over the years.

Alex once again shows us how good she is at her craft; sharing with us a gentle romance, showing us how we must learn to love and believe in ourselves. Once we embrace this, even a little, we are then open to being loved and supported - in the best way. With that unconditional love - ‘your person’ at your side, comes strength and power in yourself and each other.

This was such a beautiful story to read, watching Vince blossom under Sylvain’s gentle guidance with France as the backdrop and fabulous humour skilfully weaved throughout was magnifique!

Review - on warmer shores by Alex J Adams

5 🌟

Oh my heart, being a bigger person myself it was very easy to understand and feel Vince’s emotions. The way he felt inferior and lacked confidence really hit home. At times his feelings really made my heart ache as I could remember feeling that way and honestly…. Theo?? That man needs a freaking slap.
I was so happy when Vince met silver fox Sylvian and his luck seemed to finally change. Where do I even start with this beautiful man? Both beautiful on the outside and within this man really made me smile and I can only wish to find my own older Frenchman one day.
This is very different to Alex’s previous work. Low angst and very low in spice. I never thought i would say this but i loved that about this book the lack of hot and steamy would usually be a turn off for me. But with Vince it felt right and felt true to his character. If anything I think it added another layer to Vince and Sylvian’s story. It showed you don't need certain hings to fall in love. Sylvian is so sweet and understanding he really gave me butterflies. I mean as they say “ Love is patient love is kind”

I received a copy in return for my honest review

I really enjoyed this story. Vince, a young man who thinks very poorly of himself. And also has a friend who likes to remind him that he's not much and that he's boring. Vince believes all this, but he is also really a fighter. A holiday to France is really a new beginning for him. He meets Sylvain here. And fortunately Sylvain sees something different in Vince, he helps him to look at himself differently. He himself thinks Vince is beautiful, even though Vince doesn't believe him. This book really makes you believe Prince Charming again, what Sylvain really is. And together they can create a real foundation for their romance. Beautiful book.

This book was exactly what I needed to read, heartwarming, sweet and a little heartbreak! I loved Vince and just wanted to hold him and give him the confidence he needed to move on! Theo was his best friend and deep crush only to break his heart! Vince goes on holiday to a remote resort and bumping into an older man that captures his attention and fantasies! Not thinking he’d ever see him again, he runs into him more then expected! Sylvain became fond of Vince, taking things slow and feeling out the situation and their continual run ins! I love how their relationship develops at a slow pace allowing both of them to get to know and trust that what they see and feel is real! This story gave me all the feels! Love reading Alex J Adams, her stories are never the same and always make me feel like I’m apart of the story somehow! Great read!

This was the sweetest. Sometimes friends to lovers is just not meant to be, because you're meant to find the one who really sees you, and sees the beautiful in your looks too.

Vince is an extremely insecure person and most of it is because of how other people made him feel, mainly Theo. Theo is not just not reciprocating Vince's feelings, but he's not really a good friend either.

Anyways, Sylvain is absolutely wonderful and what Vince deserves, and he is NOT a second choice. In the first part of the book, and before meeting Sylvain, Vince understands he needs to find himself first and most of all, sees the version of himself who pined for Theo was the worst. The Vince on his own and the one next to Sylvain is Vince's best version of himself.

A must-read
This story is very different from what I'm used to reading from Alex. It's a story im.glad she wrote, though. How often do people judge others by their looks or their wealth? Through Vince, we get to see it through the eyes of a man who went through it all. Even when his best friend treated him poorly. In comes Sylvain when Vincent is at his worst. Sylvain is the best thing to happen to Vince. I liked how patient he was with Vince. I really enjoyed this story. It was more true to life on how people think and feel than you read in stories. I highly recommend this story. Fall in love with these two characters as I have.

- standalone
- low heat
- age gap
- virgin MC

This is a standalone novel with one MC (Vince) who has been in love with his best friend Theo, for ever. When he falls out with Theo (who is a terrible friend and an even worse person, quite frankly), instead of wallowing about a lost friend, he decides to take a holiday in the south of france, alone. Stepping out of his comfort zone in an attempt to forget the upcoming wedding of Theo and his odious fiancee, he meets the older and more experienced Sylvain and their growing connection is lovely. It's so wonderful to see Vince gain confidence and belief in himself while growing his connection with Sylvain.

The world building is beautiful too, it's almost like I was in France with Vince and Sylvain, I could feel the sunshine and almost taste all that wine too, it was such a beautiful setting. I loved the story too, although I do think perhaps Theo got off too lightly 😂.

I've read everything by Alex J Adams so far, and while this is a departure from her usual, it's welcome and for me, I think this is one of her best. It's a perfect summer read, and I can't recommend it enough.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Alex's On Warmer Shores is such a Sweet Meet Cute and unexpected for Vince that is down on his luck with of feels like he has lost everything. Until he meets Sylvain on a much needed holiday. Sylvain some comes to be Vince's knight and lifts him up in ways he never believed he could feel about himself. This sweet story made feel like there is hope for what we call simple people.

Reading these two Vince and Slyvaine made me want to hug them both. Alex J. Adams really wrote a beautiful story of it's not about what's on the outside but what's inside.

Definitely grab your copy of this feel good story.

“On Warmer Shores” is a beautifully written story rich in self-discovery. Vince's journey was very relatable, and his character growth was impeccable. Sylvain met Vince at his lowest point and helped rebuild him with unconditional love. I was left feeling totally in love with both characters. As usual, Alex excelled as an author, and I eagerly await her next release!

On Warmer Shores is a mix of an age gap romance, an in love with his best friend, failed romance as well as having a bisexual silver fox and a plus weight younger guy love story so it ticks quite a few boxes. Add an eventful holiday in the south of France, a couple of weddings and there you go. It is not just a breathless romp, more leisurely exploration of attraction and looking beyond the surface.

Vince is the younger guy with low self-esteem who has a broken heart and is in dire need to get away from the pressures of his life. He bumps into Sylvain, the handsome older guy, on more than one occasion and things develop. Throw in a couple of best friends, a supportive one and another who is less so and it’s off and running.

There is a lot going on but the two main characters are great as they navigate around all the obstacles they have to face to reach their happy ever after ending. Not bad at all.

A beautiful story about loving yourself, not for your looks but for who you are.

The first few chapters broke my heart. The way Vince viewed himself, the way he longed to be wanted, to have someone who finds him beautiful. How he pinned after his best friend who didn't deserve Vince's attention.

Watching Vince blossom into a confident man who no longer cared what others thought made my heart happy.

I loved how he grabbed Sylvain's attention without saying a word. It started with accidentally bumping into each other at the airport, to an awkward wave from a terrace, to a chance meeting in a village where they finally exchanged words.

Sometimes all it takes is the right person to show you how beautiful you truly are. Inside and out.

Brokenhearted and dejected, we see Vince begin a journey to overcome a lifetime of insecurities that cloud his perception of himself. After years of only thinking of others and needing a break from his “ordinary” life, he takes a chance. It’s during this chance he meets Sylvain. With the encouragement of this new friendship, Vince begins discovering his self-worth. This story resonates on so many levels. It emphasizes that true beauty is not found in superficial qualities but instead it’s in the measure of our character, the depth of our experiences, and the connections we make with others. Vince’s journey is so relatable. It reminds us all that in a world so caught up by appearances, the real essence of beauty is found in authenticity, connection, and love-both for ourselves and others. And the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who see us for who we truly are.

On Warmer Shores" presents an inspiring tale about Vince, a character who undergoes significant personal growth. The book beautifully captures his journey from a place of self-doubt to newfound confidence, both mentally and physically. It also delves into the impact of unintentionally hurtful words from close friends.
Vince has the opportunity of a Holiday in the south of France completely out of his comfort zone there he meets a wonderful Frenchman Sylvain who is older and has had plenty of experience in all things…
This is where their story begins and the growth of Vince.
Written beautifully and drawing me I'm completely I found that I was whisked to the south of France listening to the romantic French accent of Sylvain.

Well written and composed story. Good reality and background that adds to the story. Well developed characters and relationships among them. Complex emotions of not being enough and not too good friends.

And mandatory happy ending..

Definitely a good read.
