I received this "complete duet" ARC from Valentine PR and saw that it was 900 pages and gasped...
When would I have the time to read this massive book.
Well,...the answer is within the last 5 days....
Because this book will grab you by the collar and drag you through laughter and tears and ugly, chin trembling crying and then put you back together, tap you on the head and tell you to be on your way.

I went into this pretty blind, and I encourage all to do that. Yes, triggers warnings should be reviewed, especially for the second half, but every single emotional and sexual experience felt integral to this storyline.

Willow returns home after years in an abusive relationship. She brings her daughter to Briar Valley seeking safety and the calm needed to repair her heart and body.
What she finds is three men that will play a big part in her healing and self discovery. Each man has his own dark secrets and while I have my opinions on who I think she be top dog, it's all about reading and falling in love with these flawed characters.

Absolutely worth losing sleep over, while both released in their single editions, this duet is scheduled for release on September 27th and should be added to your TBR.

As the title suggests, this is a duology. A fact I overlooked until I seemed to be reading for a while and had still only read 3%. Which was then reinforced much later when book 1 ends on a cliffhanger

BUT I could dive straight into Book 2.

We find our FMC in Book 1 fleeing Mexico for England with her young daughter, in search of a grandmother she doesn’t know. She lives in Briar Valley and our FMC arrives (in a way she didn’t expect) and is taken under the wings of the locals, and into the beds of 3 of them. Get ready to clutch those pearls - because theres a set of twins and the third is their cousin. Book 1 is all insta love and the different characteristics of the 3 guys. There’s also ALOT of trauma.

Book 2 is more focused on the FMC’s attempt to gain some control over her life from her shitty, abusive ex husband. A lot happens plot wise and apart from the steamy scenes it’s a bit more suspenseful.

Despite the duology being ‘a long book’ I wanted to see more of the dynamic with a little deeper emotional connection, which can tend be lacking with instalove trope IMO. I felt this would have helped given the FMC had such a significant trauma past that I felt she just dove straight in without any processing, therapeutic help or otherwise and coupled with some of the ‘attitudes’ of the 3 made me feel a tad hesitant about the collective relationship and the health of the MF relationships.

To read these I recommend you read the trigger warnings, there’s plenty and they’re significant so practice self care.

Thanks to the author and Valentine PR for my copy.

J. Rose writes happily ever afters for those who went through the worst of the worst. These books manage to break your heart, make you cry, make you want to reach through the pages to hug the MCs, and wish you could change the entire world. They make you feel powerless in the face of truly evil people, and think all hope is lost. But on the other hand, they make you see the good in people. Realise that what you may consider a small act of kindness may change the entire world for someone, that you never know what anyone else is actually going through. That the road to recovery isn’t always easy or pretty, but that you just have to keep going.

This entire duet had me on the edge of my seat. I love Willow’s determination, Killian’s grumpy papa bear vibes, Zach’s golden retriever-ness and Micah’s tortured artist relatability. Arianna is an absolute sweetheart and seeing their relationships develop and Willow and Ari discover what being a part of a family is like was beautiful. Getting out of an abusive situation isn’t easy, the trauma becomes part of you, but leaving is so worth it. People with the best intentions still make mistakes, but seeing them grow and try to be better was beautiful. This feels weird to say due to the heavy topics they deal with, but J. Rose’s books give me comfort in a way rarely any other books manage. I wish Briar Valley was a real place, the people and the way of living is beautiful and the sense of community unrivalled.

Do check content and trigger warnings as this duet deals with very heavy topics!

This return to Briar Valley was just as good the second time around! I highly recommend this omnibus of the completed duet, not just for the original story but also for the additional material. Plus, the cover on this one is absolutely gorgeous and needs to be on your shelf.

Where Broken Wings Fly
The need to drag her into my arms, pin her there for the rest of her goddamn life and feel her gorgeous curves in my hands is riding me hard. I don’t know this woman, but I still want to claim her as my own.

Here lies another fantastic story from J Rose! It is full of the emotional depth I have come to expect from her books: a broken FMC and three protective MMCs prepared to repair her heart and mend her soul. The journey is both heartbreaking and uplifting. And the drama keeps you on your toes.

Willow’s backstory is traumatic, but she remains a fighter despite every wrong done to her. She goes to unbelievable lengths to protect her daughter – her shining light and her reason to keep living. As a mother, that unconditional love and selfless need to protect a child hit particularly close to home.

I am completely enamored with the men she found in Briar Valley, but Micah, the quiet twin, holds a special place in my heart. His sadness calls to the ghosts inside Willow, and they help heal each other. Where Killian was a little too possessive and overbearing, Micah was soft. Where his twin, Zach, was trying to make light of situations with boisterous jokes, Micah was that quiet presence that allowed her to just be.

The romance is medium/fast burn and spicy. Willow is skittish, coming from a decade of DV and SA in the hands of her husband, but the men are respectful of her limits, with only a few hiccups.

Where Wild Things Grow
“You’ve got me, babe. I never stopped loving you. It would take the end of this damn world for that to happen, and even then I’d follow you into the beyond.”

I know J Rose will rip out my heart every time I crack open the pages of one of her books, and she did it again with this second half of Willow’s tale. I am left a sobbing wreck - first through each emotional second to get to Willow’s HEA and then again at one of the most-deserved happy endings ever. I loved every moment of it! Every twist and turn. Every personal victory.

A mother’s love has no bounds, repeatedly shown as danger comes from all sides to threaten their new life in Briar Valley. Willow broke her men when she fled, and much of the story focuses on learning to heal and forgive. I loved the character growth shown throughout and Willow’s building strength. She will not be cowed by her abusive ex. She will take control of her life.

This story is fast-burn and spicy, with MF and group scenes ranging from tender love-making to spicier fare.

"Broken wings can still fly. You are living proof of that."

I was lucky to receive an ARC copy of J Rose's newest book, Briar Valley: The Complete Duet.

Willow's story was so heartbreakingly beautiful that it made me a mess, but I could not put it down!

It broke my heart and had me laughing and crying as well. I could not help but fall in love with all the characters along the way.

I loved Briar Valley and its community, including everything it stood for.

“This a place for lost things. A family of choice, rather than blood.”

J Rose has a way of drawing you into the world that she writes. She has such a way with words, and I have loved everything that I have read that she has written. She has become an auto-buy author for me.

Where Broken Wings Fly ends on a cliffhanger, so I was so happy to have Where Wild Things Grow there to read next because I needed to know what happens!

My heart breaks for Willow and everything she has been through and experienced, but I am completely in awe of how strong she is after everything she's had to endure. I'm so happy she got the ending that she deserves.

Killian, Zach, and Micah frustrated me as they could not understand why Willow left. It was also unfair of them to blame Willow for their choices while she was gone. But I am glad they came around and now understand why she did what she did.

I loved seeing characters from J Rose's Blackwood Institute and Sabre Security making an appearance.

The scene where Willow and Harlow meet was everything, and I wish we got to see a friendship develop between the two women.

I loved the bonus scenes and the extended epilogue in the Briar Valley: The Complete Duet.

Thank you so much to J Rose for this ARC 💙

* J Rose's dark romance books are all set in the same shared universe, so I highly recommend checking out her recommended reading order! *

Where Broken Wings Fly is the first book of the Briar Valley duet. Willow has had a rough life, and she and her daughter Arianna are currently trying to outrun it. They are determined to make it to her grandmothers sanctuary. While they are there, more secrets are uncovered, and Willow struggles to trust people and let them in. She also meets Killian and his twin cousins Zach and Micah. I loved their interactions with Arianna. She deserves to have 3 guys doting on her after her short life. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I am anxiously awaiting the second book of the duet to see what is next. It is a dark book, so please check the trigger warnings. The second book of the duet is Where Wild Things Grow. The second book starts rather unexpectedly, and Willow and Ari have to return back to Briar Valley; she has to face the repercussions of leaving the guys and how they each handled it differently. She finally seeks justice and voices the experience she had at the hands of her husband, but that is not the only person she has to fight. Sometimes she is at war with herself, but Micah shares a similar pain; they can help each other in ways Zach and Killian are unable to relate to. It seems like Willow is constantly on the defense, and she is ready to move on with her family in peace. I love that we get to see characters from other books, but more importantly Harlow; J Rose is really good about writing strong female characters who have come from tragic pasts. The complete duet does have new content, including Micah’s POV meeting Willow. Most importantly, it has an extended epilogue that shows a glimpse into the future, and it sound like we will be seeing more of them in a future series coming next year.

this series was so good, I couldn’t put it down, the plot was so captivating and such a unique concept then anything I’ve ever read, the author really knows how to write such an amazing story that deals with mental health, grief, and trauma in such a realistic and perfectly written way, the way the author wrote it really made you feel like you were experiencing what the characters were going through! the tropes in this book was so good, small town, unexpected pregnancy, small mum, so many of my absolute favourites all in one book! as for willow as a character, I loved her, she had so much development and depth to her and I loved seeing her getting to rid her demons once and for all, she went through so much to come out on top! and as for the guys, killian was definitely my favourite out of the guys but I loved them all, they were each so unique, and I loved seeing their interactions with willow and the way each of them showed their love and protectiveness, they each played such a key role into willows journey, and gave her the pieces of themselves to help her heal, I loved how each of the guys had their development and added depth in this book, it really gave them so much more character which I loved! overall, an amazing duology which I am OBSESSED with, with such important elements to it and amazingly written dynamics, characters and plot!

This is the complete duet with the books “Where Broken Wings Fly” and “Where Wild Things Grow”.
I read them last year, so this was a reread for the complete duet releasing September 27th.

It was one of my favorite reads in 2023, and I was so excited to reread it.

Willow was sold into a forced marriage at 16, and this duet follows her after her escape 10 years later.

She comes to Briar Valley, and I fell in love with the village right away. I loved the sense of family and the way they all took care of each other.

We meet Killian, Zach and his twin Micha right away, and I fell in love with them all.
They all were drawn to Willow, and wanted to protect her.

Arianna, Willows daughter was a spitfire, and I adore her. She makes this story whole.

This duet had me at the edge of my seat the whole time, and I couldn’t put it down. All 900+ pages were read in 2 days, and the story was captivating!

It was an emotional roller coaster, with heartbreaking moments, amazing moments, and terrifying moments. This duet has it all. It’s a powerful story, with the most amazing characters.

It has all of these amazing tropes:
Reverse harem/why choose
Found family
Small town
Single mom
Traumatic past
Close proximity
Starting over/on the run
Grumpy/sunshine

If you enjoy them, you should definitely give this one a chance! Be sure to read the TW before you dive in, and enjoy! 🖤

This duet has also bonus scenes and extended epilogue, which was amazing!

Thank you Valentine Pr and J Rose for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This was the biggest book I’ve ever read, as it was the complete duet and it had over 1000 pages on my Kobo. But it was worth every second. I read it in a week (and I was working during the week) so you can believe me when I say that I flew by this book.

Don’t get me wrong, it has many moments that are hard to read (check the trigger warnings, please!) but it was so well written that I just wanted to keep going.

It was my first why choose romance/reverse harem and it was a very good first experience with this trope. I absolutely loved it, and how different the men were, but how each of them complemented the FMC in the best way possible.

The small town and found family were amazing, the drama surrounding the FMC’s escape with her daughter was perfect and, even though this was a huge book, I don’t think it was ever too much. In fact I want more. These characters deserve everything and I loved them.

This is not just a cute small town romance, please make sure you check your trigger warnings and protect your mental health. This is a book with some very dark themes at times.

This is one of the most heart-wrenching books I have ever read. When I started it I thought my heart wouldn’t survive this story but Oh my god it became one of my favorite books ever.
I read the duet separately and I received the ARC for the complete duet so I re-read it again it was like reading it for the first time and my heart broke all over again.
I think my eyes are still burning and puffy from crying.

I loved Willow so freaking much she was AMAZING her strength and bravery were to die for the girl just kept going and no one could ever stop her. Her strength was inspiring how she was determined to change hers and her daughter’s life was so beautifully written. I think she’s my favorite character.

And don’t get me started on Killian, Micah, and Zach, they were the best. Their relationship with each other and with their family in their town and then with Willow and her daughter was so sweet and I loved every one of them.

This is one of the stories that will not leave you no matter how much time passes after reading it. You just can’t stop thinking about them all.

I will read anything that J Rose writes and that will never change. I love experiencing the heartbreak and myriad of emotions she puts you through as a reader and the Briar Rose Duet was another example of how well she is at this.

We start off with Willow, a victim of years of abuse after being “sold” to her husband, manages to escape with her young daughter and go to Briar Valley, a place with the only family connection she has.

Along the way we meet the overbearing Killian, sweet and funny Zach, and Quiet and reserved Micah (did I mention Zach and Micah are twins 🥵)

Their journey to overcome Willows past and create a future for themselves has you crying, jumping for glee and straight up gasping through all the twists and turns.

💕 Single Mom
💕 Mountain Men
💕 Why Choose
💕 Past Trauma
💕 Small Town
💕 Found Family

This is my first J. Rose read. I really loved it and can’t wait to read more. I honestly went into this a little blind, I wasn’t expecting the darker aspects, me judging a book by it’s cover 🙄. That being said I loved the suprise and really enjoyed reading this duet. The development of the setting and story was fantastic, I could clearly build the world in my head. I loved the characters and as with any good why choose, each of the MMCs have their own perfect personalities that come together to form a found family. Willow and Arianna’s story is truly heartbreaking, but the story was beautiful. Can’t wait to catch up on the rest of the universe!

When I pulled this up on my kindle I was immediately intimidated by how freaking big this was, however it was such a good read. If you are looking for a cutesy, feel good romance you might want to pic a different book. However, if you are looking for strength, resilience, strong women, and found family this is for you.

Willow returns back to Briar Valley with her daughter trying to escape a pretty crazy situation with her husband. Coming home looking for a place to recover and move on, she did not expect to find the men that would soon be so important to her. I loved all the characters. Everyone has deep flaws and secrets. The sense of found family in this was truly magical and I hate up every second of it.

Please be advised that there is some pretty heavy topics in this, please check your warning to ensure this is the best fit for you!

Don't let this sweet, snowy, small town cover deceive you, J. Rose hasn't turned soft on us!

In the Briar Valley Collection you get both Where Broken Things Fly and Where Wild Things Grow. The collection follows the story of Willow, a young girl trafficked into an abusive relationship, her escape, and her quest to find peace for herself and her young daughter. This leads her to the quaint small town of Briar Valley and a few very capable men, but is Willow really safe from the life she fled?

This was not at all what I was expecting! I quickly was swept up into Willow's journey and thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns along the way. Her brood of men made for an interesting take on healing from her trauma, and I'm sure those who have read Rose before will be excited to see a familiar face or two. A really enjoyable read with a great balance of story and heat.

This is a duology which was previously published, but now has added content and scenes.
Willow is strong, brave, and resilient, and manages to escape from an abusive man who trafficked her as a vulnerable teenager, and with her little girl she heads home to Briar Valley in the Welsh mountains, to a self-contained settlement for a fresh start and safety. Willow meets Killan, Zach, and Micah, who all have their own demons and challenges.
This is a beautifully written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, drama, heartbreak, survival, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining, dark, tragic, haunting, and powerful small town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Literally whatever J. Rose writes I’m reading it! This series was more on “it’ll tear you to pieces, but also put you back together” side. My heart ached for Willow and what she had gone through alone. All she wanted was to be happy and live a simple life with her daughter, but the past always caught up to her. Thankfully she had found some amazing men 😏 and a community that welcomed her with open arms. I have to say though out of Killian, Zach, and Micah …. I definitely loved Micah the most. 🥹 I just felt like he understood her better and knew what she needed even if he was the last to open up.

Briar Valley is a spicy, captivating read that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The heat level is intense, but it’s the depth of the characters—especially Willow—that truly stands out. Willow’s journey is full of layers, and she’s such a complex, well-written character that I couldn’t help but root for her the whole way through. The dynamic between Zach and Micah adds even more intrigue, as both men bring out different sides of Willow, making the story even more addictive. J Rose masterfully balances the passion with emotional depth, making this story unforgettable. If you love steamy romance with strong, complex characters, this one’s for you!!

The Briar Valley duet had me on such an emotional roller coaster from the very start. It’s beautiful, heartbreaking and emotional. I loved Willow so much. She is just a mom who will do anything to protect her daughter and the ones she cares about. Even though she goes through so much she is such a brave and strong woman. We have our MMC's Killian, Zach and Micah who are so supportive and just want to keep Willow and her daughter safe. I love the relationships between each of them. The character development, storyline & spice are top notch. I definitely recommend this book!

ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for an honest review

I read Briar Valley Duet when each book was released separately and I have to say that it was painful to wait for the second book, so I'm very happy that there is now a complete version of Willow's story and her struggle to be happy with her guys, even though it's not an easy path, but as always with J. Rose books we have a very well developed plot, charming characters, heartbreaking moments and an ending full of love & hope that makes all the suffering worth it.

Willow arrives in Briar Valley fleeing from a cruel and violent life with her little daughter Ariana, and from her first moment in this place far from the world she finds the unconditional support of a family she didn't know, of the people who live in those mountains, and of three cousins (a pair of twins) who are totally different but who will love her despite all the complicated situations they will have to face together. Killian is the grumpy and overprotective one, Zach is the playful and seductive one, and Micha (my favorite) is the lonely artist tortured by his own demons, each one develops a different and special relationship with Willow, and I LOVE that each of these connections happens at their own pace, that all three of them see and find different things in the arrival of this unknown girl, and that all of their lives change unexpectedly because of it.

But not everything is beautiful because we also read Willow struggling to overcome her fear after escaping from her captivity, fighting against the people who destroyed her life and trying to keep her new family safe. This girl has moments that broke my heart, but I love that throughout the story we can see how much her character heals, grows and evolves in order to be happy with the people she loves. Also, in this new version of her story, J. Rose included some beautiful content about the future of these characters that melted my heart.

Part 1:
Breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreakingly tragic story!

This is a story that after turning the last page, I needed to sit in silence, allowing the tears to drip down my face and reflect on everything I just finished reading. This was a very heavy story filled with such gut-wrenching trauma, pain, mental illness and emotional turmoil. It was extremely dark, utterly heartbreaking, and filled with some very wicked and depraved characters. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with utter anxiety over what I was going to read when I turned the page, and holding my breath at certain moments thinking that evil was going to show up.

Willow is an extremely strong, fierce and resilient young woman. She has had to take care of herself at a very young age, surviving on the streets, barely hanging on to her sanity. When she has no other option but to start stripping for survival, she has no idea that that decision will change the course of her future forever. Willow must survive the unthinkable. Being sold to an evil man, forced into marriage, physically and mentally abused, and fighting for her life and her daughter’s life every single day. Finally on the verge of death, she finds the last bit of strength to run.

Briar Valley may hold the key to Willow’s healing, survival and finding a second chance at an all-consuming love she so desperately needs. While there, she instantly finds a connection with Killian, Zach and Micah. I loved every interaction these four had, whether its when they are one on one with Willow or when they are all together. They had me giggling, swooning and hoping that together they could be the support and family that Willow and her daughter need.

I was continually on the verge of combusting from all the sexual tension between the four of them. It was utterly spicy and sizzling hot! These three men have some dirty mouths on them, and I could not get enough of it.

Also, the way that Killian, Zach and Micah interacted and bonded with Arianna had my heart completely melting. She is such a sweet and beautiful little soul in this dark and tragic story. She definitely brought so much light to all the darkness.

Brilliantly written story with such an immense amount of poignant word weaving into an incredibly dark, twisted and addictive story. It is suspenseful with all kinds of twists and turns throughout that keep you on the verge of the unknown of how the story will play out in the end. Was I heartbroken how this part of the story ended, absolutely! I was completely all shook up! I need to know what happens now!

"𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒍𝒚. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕."

Part 2
Ohhh my poor heart! It was definitely put through the wringer with this phenomenal conclusion.

This story starts right where we left off with Willow on the run with her daughter, hiding out with a broken heart and trying to stay safe and alive from the corrupt Mr. Sanchez. Willow’s journey was just beginning.

There is such much emotional turmoil, heartbreak, and pain woven into Willow’s healing journey. She doesn’t want to put anyone else in danger, and she desperately needs her daughter to be safe even if it means putting her own heart in jeopardy. She needs to be stronger, smarter and fiercer but it will take Willow a bit of time before she can come to realize that she can count on others to help her and that she doesn’t need to do it all herself.

“I’m broken. Perhaps irreparably so. But around them, I want to be whole again. I’m desperate to stitch my shattered pieces together and live the life I always dreamed of while stuck in that soulless mansion.”

Killian, Zach and Micah are utterly heartbroken and devastated that Willow chose to run from them. Without her in their lives, they each have fallen into darkness. They feel betrayed and gutted that she didn’t chose them but now that she’s back in their lives they will do their damnedest to make her realize that they are there for her and her daughter 100%.

“You never have to walk alone again.”

The journey that these four (plus Ari) go through was remarkable. The more they allowed each other into their lives and hearts the stronger they became as a family. Willow and Ari both become more determined to fight their demons and to take them down. They deserve their happy ending.

This was a beautifully written story that continually pulled on my heartstrings, had me laughing and crying, and made my heart soar with so much love for each and every character that lived in Briar Valley. This was one story that will forever remain with me.

~ Review of Where Broken Wings Fly (book 1 of this duet) ~ 3 ⭐

"Killian, Zach and even Micah have made me feel at home in their own way." - Willow

"She's bringing me back to life." - Micah

"Broken wings can still fly. You are living proof of that." - Killian

"You’ve got so much to give to the world even when you don’t see it. I’m so glad I met you." - Zach

Willow ran away from her husband with her daughter Adrianna. They are welcomed in Briar Valley by all the people that live there, it doesn't happen a lot that there are new people in town, it took some time but the people there are very sweet and welcoming.

Micah looked at the ceiling when Willow undressing and in the bath (also that scene was so beautiful, talking about feelings is hard for him but he did it!), he is very respectful to her space and her boundaries, I think the other guys could learn from that. I love him so much, he's my favorite. He knows what it's like to lose someone, to be stuck in grief. They understand each other.

Zach is very playful but he can also be serious when he needs to be. He is always looking out for everyone, Micah and him are twin brothers and they both deal differently with their past.

It took a while for me to like Killian, I didn't like the way he approached Willow in the first book, to be honest Zach could've been a lot better too. I feel like there were enough signs about Willow's past that they didn't see. I personally would have done things differently, I would have treated her differently. Especially Killian was very closed minded and that is simply not how you treat anyone who was in Willow's situation or a stranger. Not once did they ask how they could help with the panic attacks. If someone says that they want be touch and that you should stop talking, you do that! Micah really did help her the best in those situations, I have not a bad things to say about him.

Willow is so strong, she's been through so much and a lot of people have let her down and didn't protect her. So it was very hard for her to have trust in the people in town and with a lot of patience that trust grew. Her behavior made sense to me, she never felt safe and she does everything to protect her daughter.

I love all the moments with Adrianna, she has 3 amazing (step)dads, they do everything to make sure that she is happy, she can finally be a child and have friends. She knows that she is safe and that she is loved.

I missed something in this book, I don't agree with how Willow was treated by Killan and Zach. That is why I gave this book 3 stars. Micah however was just what she needed.

First book characters from 1-4

1. Micah
2. Willow
3. Zach
4. Killian

~ Review of Where Wild Things Grow (book 2 of this duet) ~ 3 ⭐

"Maybe, we’re all too broken. And this cannot be fixed." - Willow

At the end of the first book, something happened what effected this book. The guys had lots of time to think about their behavior but they (especially Killian & Zach) just keep treating her the same way which in my opinion wasn't good, they weren't really respectful, they didn't really talk through their feelings. They all need therapy so that they can grow and heal together! They are a beautiful family and they deserve to be the best versions of themselves but they are working on that and the family isn't so little anymore...

A partner should make you feel safe, that you can say everything knowing what you will figure it all out together, Micah did that in the best way he could. Even with his depression, he did more for her then the others.

“My head… You left me alone in it.” - Micah

Killan literally emotionally manipulated her by asking her daughter "Did you miss Briar Valley?" that wasn't fair and that was very low of him and I get that he was hurting. It took a long time for Killian to have characters development.

The second book felt repetitive, it was a circle of danger --> they are safe --> they are not safe --> happy family

Second book characters from 1-4

1. Micah
2. Willow
3. Zach
4. Killian

J Rose just know how to write beautiful, heartbreaking and raw characters and stories with mental health. The end of her books always feel so comforting, knowing that the characters really went through it but they did it together and that is a really good message. I just didn't agree with certain behaviors, or how certain situations were written or handled. The writing is poetic and beautiful!

I read an ARC copy of this duet, thank you for the opportunity

(I received an ARC for this book)

Trigger Warnings (for both books) include:
human trafficking, forced marriage, domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual assault, self-harm, unplanned pregnancy, miscarriage, torture, murder, discussions of drug use and child neglect, death of a loved one, PTSD, grief, anxiety, alcoholism

I LOVED being back in Briar Valley! Spending time with Willow, Killian, Zach, and Micah again was just as fabulous a second time! And as I knew it would be, the extra content was just as every bit as perfect! Also, can confirm: this is still just as painful a second time.

If you’re looking for a why choose with a troubled soul, a dirty mouthed flirt, and a growly mountain man possessive of a beautifully brave mom carrying more baggage than belongings, I definitely recommend this one! This was a tough one to read. As a mom, as a woman, as a reader, as a human, this was a lot to take in. After suffering for a decade, Willow gets her and her daughter to safety. Arianna was absolutely the glue of this story. She was her mother’s reason to live. And she quickly became the reason Zach, Micah, and Killian softened. The reason all four of them became better, stronger, versions of themselves. Zach helped Willow heal her scars. Killian made her feel safe. Micah’s demons comforted hers. “We’re not whole without you.” And that’s true for any of the characters, for the town as a whole. It truly broke my heart to ‘witness’ everyone’s pain. It wasn’t just their happily ever after that healed the wounds they caused my heart, but the town rallying together.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “In fact, if you want to kiss me, I would highly encourage it.”
• “You’re perfectly whole, even if you don’t see it.”
• “I’m in awe of you.”
• “I’ll kiss you every day to remind you of that.”
• “There’s my perfect girl.”
• “You’re going to let my twin f!ck your mouth while I eat you out from behind, gorgeous girl.”
• “I want to see your dirty little angel covered in come while I have my turn.”
• “All I want is the privilege of owning a piece of your heart.”
• “I just need to feel you in my arms one more time to know you’re real.”
• “I never let you go. Not once.”
• “It would take the end of this damn world for that to happen, and even then I’d follow you into the beyond.”
• “Wait your f!cking turn. She’s mine right now.”
• “Let me hear you. I want to know how much you love my cousin eating your pretty little c!nt out.”
• “You’re so f!cking gorgeous. Like a damn goddess, riding my c!ck.”
• “We’re not whole without you.”
• “You look so powerful on top of me like the queen you are.”
• “I already am home.”

Overview of the book first.
This is a duology book. Two for the wait of one what’s not to like. Especially when book 1 ends on a cliffhanger.

We follow the FMC Willow. At 16 she is captured in a world that destroys women. She suffers, in ways that are unimaginable, but she never gives up.
When she runs home she’s lost, broken and a shell of a person not just herself.

Willow is putting her broken pieces together part by broken part, she never expects to be helped with this by twins MMC’s Zach, the golden retriever, Micah, the tortured artist and least of all, Killian, the grumpy protector.

They are not trusting of outsiders into their homemade village. The people that live there are rebuilding broken lives and needing to escape the ‘day to day of outside life’ they don’t know what trouble Willow is going to bring, or the way her puzzle pieces also seem to fit inside them too.

Pros of this book. Good plot. It starts really heavy, check triggers, Willow is a strong FMC, she fights for everything to keep going. The first book is really gripping and I enjoyed the set up, characters and was drawn in to knowing more about them.

Cons, I started to get a little bored by the second book. Something didn’t click for me. I felt the start was a little anticlimactic for how the last ended and a little boring to be honest. I felt like the FMC made the wrong choice and nothing really happened. I felt like the relationship between all 4 of them came across as only really surface deep when it was hinting at more depth. They mocked each other and joked, they’re family but a lot of it didn’t come across as humours, more childish, it didn’t read to me like I think it was trying to.

The main ‘plot’ of the 2nd book felt long winded with no real ‘drama’ the FMC kept repeating the same mistakes, the MMC’s kept having to try and save her and she didn’t give them much back, in my opinion. I felt she was a little selfish. Especially when it came to ‘choosing her daughter,’ don’t want to give away spoilers, it’s not that I disagreed with her doing that, it was the lack of thought process for the bigger picture, you’ll understand if you read.

It’s not that I didn’t like the books. I just felt like the depth could have been there and wasn’t touched, I also felt like some of the issues she was dealing with, came across as ‘immature’ as a sufferer of what she went through, the fact she was almost so blaze when revealing it then just acted like it was never an issue. Maybe it’s just because my personal experience was so different I struggled to connect to her.

It is a good book, I’d say it’s worth a read, for me this just didn’t hit high star read, more like 3/3.5⭐️

I have read other J Rose books so this wasn’t a first from this author for me.

I think she is good for touching on hard hitting topics and showing the process for trying to overcome trauma is not just a straight path to ‘recovery’

I was lucky to receive this book as an Arc, these thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
Thank you @valentinePR #valentinePR #JRose

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5

Willow had grown up in a life where no one stood up for her. Tried taking her life and circumstances into her own hands. That simply put her into the hands of a monster for ten years. The only bright spot was her heart, her world, Arianna. With so much sacrifice, she was finally able to escape. To what? She didn’t know. Anywhere was better than where she sacrificed ten years of her life.

What a wildly tragic and heartbreakingly magnificent story this was. J. Rose is a master storyteller. I felt every emotion while reading this duet. There are some hard topics that are covered in the story, but stunningly approached.

If I had to read book one on it’s own without book two literally on the next page, I would have lost my shit because holy hell! What a cliffy! The tension and suspense throughout this book is fantastic. I was at the edge of my seat (seriously, I scooted up in my chair!) because of things that were going down. I could feel Willow’s terror.

Killian, Zach, and Micah are each a force to be reckoned with. Killian is a broody Viking of a man with a heart of gold. Need some wood chopped? Ask him. Zach is the fun, lighthearted goof with a sinfully dirty mouth. Micah is Zach’s twin, tortured by his past. Because of what tragedy he’s endured, he’s a kindred spirit to Willow and the hell she was put through.

Willow’s main goal is to keep her daughter safe. In doing so, she may have to lose heart. Briar Valley is not a story for the faint of heart. It is a story of heartbreak, tragedy, love, loss, pain, suffering, scars, trauma, more pain and loss, and a plethora of other misfortune. This duet will shatter you into pieces and rebuild you anew on the other side. Willow has been to hell, lived it, sacrificed everything for it, and still had to face the devil. Be prepared to feel ALL the feels.

I want to thank J.Rose and Valentine PR for this ARC. I feel like a lived more than a lifetime reading this story. Even though it is difficult to get through the heaviness at times, there also is laughter, togetherness, support, spice, and a whole lot of love. I hope everyone that is able to reads this story. It will live with me for a long, long time.

🏔️“Sometimes, existing in empty spaces can be fatal. But sometimes… it’s the only way to survive.”
🏔️“For the first time in so long, I want to throw myself into someone’s arms. No one has ever caught me before.”
🏔️“I thought I had to protect Briar Valley from you,” Killian murmurs, wetting his bottom lip with his tongue. “But I forgot to protect myself.”
🏔️“You belong to me now. I’m the only man you’re allowed to think of when I’m buried in your c***.”
🏔️“I want to see your dirty little angel covered in c*me while I have my turn.”

"𝐵𝓊𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇𝒻𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓈 𝒹𝑜𝓃'𝓉 𝒷𝑒𝓁𝑜𝓃𝑔 𝓁𝑜𝒸𝓀𝑒𝒹 𝓊𝓅 𝒾𝓃𝓈𝒾𝒹𝑒."

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for both installments of the Briar Valley duet last year, and if I thought I loved the story of Willow, Ari and her men back then, time has only made my love for the duet grow. The bonus content is just that; an absolute bonus. It expands so well on the story I enjoyed so much, creating more depth for the characters and giving us an extra little peek into their world.

Willow and Ari - their story still remains one of the most heartbreaking I've read. The strength they both show as they escape and rebuild their lives in Briar Valley is nothing short of amazing. They show that there is the potential to heal after trauma, and that it is worthwhile taking a risk with your heart, even if you're scared to do so.

The men were all perfect, and so unique in themselves. They all have their own history, and bring something unique to the relationship. It's definitely a case of you can't leave any of them out; together, they are whole. Micah still has my heart. There's just something about him that calls out to me; call it similar characteristics/pasts. Killian, the gruff mountain man, who melts for no one but Willow and Ari. And Zach, our absolute golden retriever (and Micah's twin - and YES, there is a twin sandwich moment).

"𝐵𝓇𝑜𝓀𝑒𝓃 𝓌𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝒻𝓁𝓎. 𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝓁𝒾𝓋𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝑜𝒻 𝑜𝒻 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉."

To this day, Ari remains my favourite character. I don't know if it's because she's the breath of fresh air amongst the darkness of the story, or what, but she brings some much needed relief, and some incredibly sweet moments.

I thoroughly love the concept of Briar Valley, too. I wish there was a place like this for everyone to be able to escape to; the strength and compassion of the community, and the willingness to help, truly makes this an idyllic village to live. I love all the townsfolk there, and again, you really cannot do away with any member of the wider community.

As with all of Rose's books, I enjoy that they're part of a combined universe, with Sabre Security, Blackwood and, now, Harrowdean. We get references to characters across the universe, as well as potential peeks into what might happen for the universe down the track. I still hold out hope for a Ryder/Ethan novel in the future.

You truly feel all the emotions reading this story, and I loved that I was able to step back into the village of Briar Valley.

This duet is the epitome of the power of healing - and gaining strength - through love.

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.

ARC review briar valley

“Broken wings can still fly. You are living proof of that.”

Tropes:
Small mountain town
Escaping domestic violence
Why choose
Three mountain men
Single parent
Dark, tragic past

I had already read the seperate book Where broken wings fly and Where wild things grow a while ago when I saw the sign up for the omnibus version and immediately signed up. Cause I know when J rose comes with a why choose romance than it's gonna be good, she is the QUEEN of why choose!. She just puts her everything in it, making me hold my breath and tear up with this story.

This book is about single mother Willow and her daughter Arianna, who are on the run from her dangerous husband Mr. Sanchez, willow will do anything to protect her daughter. She decides to run to briar valley where her alleged grandmother lives. While living in briar valley she meets Killian and twins Zach and Micah, and that is where their love story begin. Willow has many obstacles and hardships she has to go trough to get her happy ending but at the end of the story she does get their.

Their relationship was such a crazy road, but such a beautifull story and SO entertaining. I loved how you saw killian's sweet side and the way he cared for Arianna was EVERYTHING I MELTED!. And then you have Zach and Micah twins but such different personalities, Micah was SO cute I couldn't handle it and Zach was such a sweetheart always caring for Willow no matter what.

I did already read the books previously but I loved going back to briar valley and to Willow and her boys, and the bonus and extra content was EVERYTHING!, and the little teaser to the next story in this universe OMG!. I love how J rose brings everything together so beautifully, when Willow met Harlow that was such a SWEET moment!. Like I said J Rose is the QUEEN of why choose romance.

So if you are like me obsessed with why choose romance than you should definitely read this book Briar valley, such a heartwaring and wholesome story!. And when you are done you can read the other books from some of the characters you met in this book!. Thank you so much J rose and valentine pr for giving me the opportunity to arc read this book!.
