Amy Gruntle has only ever known one kind of life, the kind where her husband takes charge of everything while she wilts away in the background, under his ever-watchful eye. Tethered to a life of suffocation under his controlling shadow, she never imagined liberation—until a lifeline appears in an unexpected Lily, her stepdaughter.

In a daring flight to freedom, Amy flees, leaving behind a cryptic email and a life of oppression. Provincetown was supposed to be her sanctuary, but it's in Falmouth, under the roof of Lily's Aunt, where Amy finally inhales life anew. Yet, her husband's threats loom large, and the bewildered hurt of her children who can't grasp her sudden departure or her fear of Eric, haunts her every step.

As Amy struggles to rediscover her forgotten self, amidst her children's confusion, she finds an unlikely ally in Emily Hamilton Ricker—Lily’s cousin. Emily, grappling with her husband's death and a business sinking under his debts, discovers in Amy a kindred spirit.

In this fourth installment, two women are thrust together by fate, navigating the turbulent waters of grief and new beginnings. Falmouth's tranquil backdrop sets the stage for a story of profound transformation and the intricate dance of joy and heartache.

"Falmouth Awakening" is a testament to the strength found in fresh starts and the unexpected friendships that become our anchors. Join Amy and Emily as they confront their pasts and embark on a journey that promises a future as unpredictable as it is hopeful. Can they redefine themselves amidst the complex tapestry of loss and renewal?

Amy is very unhappy with her life. Her husband (and Lily's father) has been controlling her with his criticism for their entire marriage. She has tried to be the perfect wife - throwing lavish parties to help his career, keeping a beautiful home and raising two fantastic children - but it's never enough for him. She stays until she just can't take it anymore. She packs a bag and flees to Falmouth to the home of her step-daughter Lily who has found happiness and a new life. Amy knows that leaving her husband is going to be difficult but she has no idea that he'll resort to the underhanded tactics that he and his divorce attorney present. He is also working to turn her adult children against her and she begins to wonder if she made a mistake by leaving. But she has a sharp divorce attorney and a bunch of new friends in Falmouth who are helping her adjust to her new life where she controls her own destiny instead of always doing what she's told to do. Will she be able to maintain a new life or will her husband be able to get her back into the marriage? What will she have to give up to make her husband agree to a divorce? And will her children learn the real truth about their father?

This is book 4 in the Cape Code series and my favorite book so far. It was fantastic to see the changes in Amy as she learned that she was able to navigate her own life and make her own decisions. It wasn't easy and her mind kept telling her that maybe she'd made a mistake to leave her marriage but her friends are encouraging and loving and help her see how much better her life could be. Making a complete transformation in your life causes heartache along with the joy. Amy is hopeful that she can achieve a renewed life of joy.

Falmouth Awakenings is book 4 in the Cape Cod series by Kimberly Thomas, a story of suffering and courage to begin a new life…

What happens after years of controlling behavior, verbal abuse, domineering husband, Amy gets a lifeline from an unexpected person…her step daughter, Lily. This is an emotionally intense read, mixed with learning to be the person you were meant to be, understanding other’s dilemma and helping them see what the future can hold…

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Amy is struggling with her decision to leave Eric. Every chance he gets, Eric is belittling her and try to convince her to come back to him. As Amy moves forward, she seeks to develop a new interest making a future for her new life. Meanwhile Emily is struggling to make the bakery a financial success as she faces a bank payment.

Lots of family support helps both Emily and Amy. Amy struggles to keep her children from learning just how difficult her marriage was.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion

This was a very fast book that I read in one setting.
It grabbed me from page one. Amy’s story was a bit sad but I admire her courage. I don’t think I would have been as nice. The other characters were great and filled the story nicely. All the books in this series have been really good. Looking forward to the next one.

Amy found the strength to leave her controlling husband Eric, and he is even texting and calling her to make her second-guess her decision. She finally realizes that she can make decisions on her own and be independent. Her children are not happy with her at first but finally realize how their dad really is. Great story!

This series is all about starting over at every age. Amy leaves the very abusive eric Taylor and this is all about how she learns to move forward and not think everything is going to blow up all the time. She and emily befriend a father and son duo that I think will make a return in another book. This is a lovely story that shows you don’t have to take someone mistreating you ever.
