Venomous Gods #5

Monstrous Urges

Rate this book
I played games with the wrong stranger.

Tall, powerful, and lethally gorgeous, Drazen Krylov is the ruthless boogeyman the Bratva world fears.

He’s also the masked man from the app whom I unknowingly shared my darkest, most depraved urges with.

Now the fantasy has become a nightmare.

Drazen says I did terrible, unforgivable things.

He says I owe a debt, and I’ll pay the price by pretending to be his dead wife.

I look just like her.

The thing is, I might be her…

My past is an amnesia haze of blank memories.

My future is in his hands.

My name is Taylor Crown.

At least, so I’ve been told.

And I may have married a monster.

Now, I need to remember why.

Monstrous Urges is a standalone dark mafia romance with a smart, untamable heroine, and an ultra possessive psycho hero with "look at her and I'll unalive you" energy. Readers are STRONGLY advised to read the TW inside. No cliffhanger; HEA included.

A reader first and foremost, Jagger Cole cut his romance writing teeth penning various fan-fiction stories years ago. After deciding to hang up his writing boots, Jagger worked in advertising pretending to be Don Draper. 🌟🌟🌟.8 stars.

Jagger Cole really nails it when it comes to blending dark romance with jaw-dropping plot twists. Drazen and Taylor's story is like an epic, steamy adventure wrapped in suspense and mystery. While some parts felt a tad rushed, the plot kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

### Tropes:
- Dark Romance 🖤
- Mafia Bratva x Serbian
- Amnesia 🧠
- Enemies to Lovers
- Forced Arranged Marriage of Convenience?? 💍
- Billionaire Romance 💸
- Forced Proximity
- Kidnapping 🚨
- Revenge

### Microtropes:
- Primal Kink
- Free Use
- Praise Kink
- Degradation Kink
- Touch Her & Die
- Kink Club

First off, Cole knows how to write scenes that set the page on fire! Taylor's breakup catapults her into a darker, thrill-packed world when she meets NapoleonInExile on a website. Their interactions are charged with primal energy, making you feel every bit of that intensity. Enter Drazen, the dark and brooding hero who adds a whole new level of excitement. His pursuit of Taylor is both terrifying and exhilarating.

I was pumped to dive into Drazen and Taylor's story, but the blurb gave me major *God of War* vibes, and I was a bit wary. Thankfully, Cole delivers the goods in his own unique way!

Taylor is a fierce, confident lawyer grappling with memory loss and a shadowy past. Her quest to uncover her own truth while navigating Drazen's intense demands is a thrilling ride. The chemistry between Drazen and Taylor is off the charts, and their explosive moments together are nothing short of mesmerizing.

The plot twists keep you guessing, making it impossible to put the book down. However, the second half of the book felt a bit rushed, with some plotlines getting short shrift. Drazen's swift shift from hating Taylor to loving her felt a bit abrupt, and I craved more depth in their relationship.

### Content Warnings:
- Dark themes and graphic depictions of past trauma
- Primal/CNC play
- Impact play
- Very rough adult acts of a dubious nature

If you're a fan of dark romance, intense primal play, and love stories featuring complex heroes and strong heroines, this one's a must-read!!

Can't wait for Annika's book! Jagger Cole always delivers, and I’m sure Annika's journey will be just as thrilling.

Happy reading! 📚🌌

Monstrous Urges by Jagger Cole

5/5 stars

Monstrous Urges is my second book by Jagger Cole. And man! He exactly knows how to write a sex scene and a book with so much angst, passion and drive! I was instantly sucked into the story and immediately invested in Drazen and Taylor's story.

The book starts with Taylor finding her boyfriend cheating on her. She isn't broken by it. The relationship was meh to start with. And she finally decides to follow her own passions and deep and dark urges. She makes a profile on a dating app with likeminded people. And she comes in contact with NapoleonInExile.

And damn he even got me all hot and bothered! My lord, he is soooo hot. I felt the danger, his lust and his longing. Their safeword will be Vault. She is drawn to primal play. And when he hunts her... he hunted me as well! Gosh this book is so well written. It felt every emotion reverberate in my own bones. But she gets scared and uses the safeword. Regretting it almost instantly. He is disappointed and says this was your only chance.

When she tries to reach out again he ignores her. Until she blocks him and opens up her profile again. He completely claims and the only way to  get another choice is do to the following...:

My location is on. He knows exactly where I am. Always.

And when he finds her....

I don't even make it halfway there.
A huge, gloved hand wraps tight around my mouth. A massive hulking body crashes into me from behind, shoving me forward and slamming me against the windows. Adrenaline and pure fear flood every nerve in my body as my spine snaps tight and my skin electrifies.

♥♥♥

Or maybe I won't," he growls slowly. "Maybe you'll say your precious safe word, blithely thinking that will save you, and I still. Won't. Fucking. Stop."

Let me be clear this book is completely consensual while playing with words. And I absolutely loved that.

Taylor is also a hardworking lawyer with her own law firm with two of her best friends. Friends that are family. And they represent Drazen. But for some reason he has a new enterprise and only wants to work with Taylor. But why?

Taylor also struggles with severe memory loss. She doesn't remember anything before her 18th birthday and doesn't have a lot of information about her past.
How does it all tie together? I loved the entire journey we went on in this gorgeous book.

But the bond they share. My lord. It's one of the best out there in dark romance!

"You!" I choke, shuddering as his gun rubs against my clit again. "I belong to you!"

I am definitely gonna reread it many times! Plus I want to own this gorgeous series in psysical copies! They are THAT good!

5 humongous stars for this utterly addictive book!

Characters had absolutely no emotional connection. Legit all they did was fuck and boom he says "I love you." I don't remember a single conversation between the two that made me even think they were becoming friends.
The FMC legit didn't even say "I love you." 🤣

Thank you Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

This book is definitely my favorite of the serie. In this book we read about Drazen and Taylor's journey and how they come to be together: Drazen wants to get revenge over something that happened in the past and he needs Taylor to play the role of his late wife.
Since the beginning I was so hooked on the amnesia/dead wife plotline that I finished this book in less than a day. There are plot twists after plot twists and I couldn't put the book down because I needed to know the truth: the revelation did not disappoint, I couldn't imagine where the amnesia and the mystery plots were leading to and I didn't expect what happened at the end.
This book was so plot focused that I felt like it was paid less attention to the building of their relationship: the protagonists had to act like a married couple but I couldn't feel them getting closer, but once they got together I enjoyed their moments and loved how good they were for eachother.
I wanted to know more about Drazen and Taylor since the Dark Hearts serie and I loved them even more. Taylor was such a girlboss, she's confident, strong and I liked how she wouldn't take shit from anyone and especially from Drazen, I also loved the relationship she has with Alistair and Gabriel. Drazen seems tough on the exterior but he was so kind with Taylor, always caring about her wellbeing.

Can't wait for what is next, I believe the next book is going to be the first one of a new serie.

HOLY DADDY DRAZEN 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

After reading Corrupted Heart I was STOKED about getting Drazens story. And let me tellll youuuuu it did not disappoint.

Drazen is who Zade wants to be but can't. This was one of the darkest romances I've read as far as the smut goes, and I couldn't be more obsessed fr.

I'm officially a Jagger Cole slut.

If you like dark and depraved MMCs. With ALL the kinks (and triggers 😝). Just trust me and go read it.

The one thing I love and appreciate about Jaggers' stories is that he writes darkness into all the aspects of the story. So not just the smut but also the torture and deaths throughout the story. It's dark from start to finish and it's ALL on page.

Not me going to buy his entire backlist 😈

I have been looking forward to Taylor’s book for so long! Ever since we saw her in Sinful Hearts as Elsa’s boss. I’m not sure what I expected from her book but honestly? This exceeded all of my expectations & more. It might just be Jagger’s darkest book yet & boy was it a RIDE.

I won’t lie, the beginning hooked me & then I felt like it slowed a bit in the middle & I had some trouble focusing on it. But I feel like once I hit that halfway mark, I was all in. The ending & plot twists to this story was so so good! Just another book Jagger knocked out of the park.

Taylor Crown is a brilliant lawyer with a forgotten past, facing unexpected secrets and big questions when Drazen, the head of a Russian Bratva, steps into her life. After a severe accident at 18, she lost her memory. Drazen recognizes her and initially plans to kill her, but their relationship quickly changes, leading to surprising revelations about her true identity and the dangers she faces.

This book takes you on an exciting journey with fantastic world-building and suspenseful storytelling that keeps you hooked. Taylor and Drazen have intense chemistry, forming a dynamic duo that really drives the plot. Characters like Gabriel, Fumi, and Alistair add fun interactions and humor. The steamy scenes are top-notch, though the relationship moves a bit fast, leaving you wanting more tender moments outside the bedroom.

Another amazing read by Jagger Cole! I have been waiting for a long time for this one as this series is going so good.

This one is a standalone with an amazing set of characters and some triggers as well as that is what makes this author the best. Apart from the book I loved the teases for the next series and how everything is connected.

I just can’t get more of these! Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.

Jagger Cole’s “Monstrous Urges” is a riveting journey into the shadows of vengeance, passion, and the haunting echoes of the past. From the very first page, Cole pulls you into the brooding, tumultuous world of Drazen, a man consumed by the desire to avenge the horrors inflicted upon his family. Drazen is the quintessential alphahole – a broody, monstrous force of nature whose dark desires and unyielding persona make him both terrifying and irresistibly captivating.

Taylor, on the other hand, is a compelling mix of strength and vulnerability. Stricken with amnesia, she is unaware of the role she played in Drazen's suffering. Her journey of self-discovery, intertwined with the explosive chemistry she shares with Drazen, is both enthralling and emotionally charged. Taylor’s character is a breath of fresh air: strong, smart, and fiercely independent, yet with a hidden yearning for a man who can match her intensity and take charge, allowing her to finally loosen the reins a bit.

The dynamic between Drazen and Taylor is the beating heart of this story. Cole masterfully crafts scenes that are charged with tension, primal needs and passion, making their explosive relationship a thrilling ride from start to finish. The emotional push and pull between them keeps you engaged, rooting for their unlikely union despite the dark forces at play.

However, while Monstrous Urges is a captivating read, it isn't without its minor hiccups. Drazen's character, though fascinating, could have benefited from more emotional depth. The transition from his loathing to loving Taylor happens a bit too swiftly, leaving you craving a deeper exploration of his internal struggle (would have helped with the plot twist, too). Additionally, the second (or main) plot twist, while entertaining, was somewhat predictable. Bummer, but nothing that bothered me too much.

Nevertheless, “Monstrous Urges” is a deliciously dark and addictive book that will appeal to fans of intense, brooding heroes and strong, sassy heroines. It’s a story where darkness meets desire, and where two damaged souls find explosive solace in each other’s arms. If you’re seeking a book that’s both gloomy and passionate, with characters that leap off the page, then Jagger Cole’s latest offering is one you shouldn’t miss.

*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book.

🍷 idk it kinda has john wick vibes~

mini blurb — ✍🏻
As a naming partner of the legal firm she founded with the Black Brothers, Taylor Crown gave everything for her career, mostly at the expenses of her social and personal life, or rather the life she remembers since she was 18.
That's why she's tempted to try the services available at Club Venom, what she doesn't expect is her match to turn out to be her long lost husband from a life she cannot remember.

//

I learned to set my expectation low with this author, this one is my second series and even tho it's no masterpiece, here and there there are few good books and they're all pretty enjoyable and bingeable. This one make no difference and if you can get past all the drama and fucked up plot twist it's kinda cute? lmao

At least the MMC, Drazen lived to his expectations, from the little cameos he had in the prev. books I had a rough image set for him and I was happy to find it coherent, for once, in his own book, finally learning his story.

This man had all the reason to act why he acted and I was his #1 supporter through and through, morally gray you say? I call it justice. Totally on it for his revenge era✨

Did I mention I discovered this man right here has a perfect dark sense of humor and an unexpected sass?

Kenzo lifts a single shoulder. “I have many little birds who sing all sorts of songs into my ears.”
My expression hardens. “Well, please tell your little birds that if they continue to fly into my yard, and I happen to catch them, I’ll tear their wings off and grind them into Chicken McNuggets.”

--

“You want me to have someone follow him [Kenzo]?”
“I can probably think of bigger wastes of our time, but it would take me a minute,”

--

“Where did you summer growing up?”
“I have no idea. Where did you summer growing up?” I fire back.
“A POW camp in Kosovo.”

As of Taylor , she was an amazing surprise to see more of her, she's the boss bitch and she knows it™ I really think they were perfect for one another, she's fierce and independent, she has a mind and it's not afraid to use it or speak, she went head on with Drazen and did not cower under him, but at the same time she wished to someone strong enough to put her trust in and cede complete control over 🖤 my babies

If I have to say one thing "against" this book it's at this point I'm having the impression that all the MMC have, what can we say, the exact same *taste* for certain activities 👀 I mean the spice was spicing but after 5 book (more or less) it sorta lack the inventive, idk add some other details to it, I feel like reading the same exact scene from the prev books, and it's a pity.

As for now, 👀 is this series over or should we expect more of it since the next announced book will be a spin-off about Kenzo in Emperor of Wrath? Stay tuned, I guess.

Just when I think Jagger Cole’s MCs can’t get darker or more unhinged, he says HOLD MY BEER (or vodka). Drazen was absolutely insane (in the most delicious way), but not only that, the story was so captivating and had me questioning everything!

Since the beginning of the Venomous Gods series, I have been waiting for Taylor’s story and Jagger definitely held the best for last!

Taylor is one-third of the Crown and Black law office she started with Gabriel and Alistair Black. She lives and breathes her profession. But Taylor has a past not even she can remember. And when she explores her dark and depraved desires using Club Venom’s app, she crosses paths with one of Crown and Black’s clients darkest clients, Drazen Krylov. But it turns out, their dark desires might not be all they have in common. Can Drazen be the key to putting pieces of Taylor’s past together for her?

Wow! What a wild friggin ride! This was hands down my favorite in this series! It was delicious and entertaining and even had me in my feels! I am stoked for what’s next!

Thank you to Jagger Valentine PR for the early review copy!

This was a complete 5🌟 and 5🌶️ rated book in my opinion!

This book had me feeling so many emotions that I was literally gasping and hollering out loud. I immediately forced my husband to listen to a debrief of the book once I finished it and he was even into it!

This story of a woman desperate to fully be herself in every way and a man who’s life has been constantly about war and revenge meet under wild circumstances and start a spiral of events that will leave you thinking you know what’s going to happen next… but you won’t!

Be sure to check your TW as this is a dark mafia romance that is heavy in primal play and kinks (though I felt all of it was done beautifully).

Ugh I just couldn't with this book. I think it was too much smut and mafia even for me. I hated all the names/dirty talk he had with her made me so uncomfortable and the opposite of turned on. I also found that midway through the book he just decided he liked her? It was almost like he had an identical twin because his attitude and everything just changed with was even more confusing. Would not recommend and will probably not read anymore. Looking for other recommendations on mafia romance.

Will I ever stop being surprised by how much I love the masked man trope?

Well, not anytime soon at least because wowowow Daddy Drazen 🥵🫠😍 Idk what Jagger Cole is doing but these books are literally so addictive. If you’ve read any of the Venomous Gods series, you probably remember Taylor Crown, friend and business partner of the Black brothers. We’ve seen snippets of this badass, career woman but now it’s her time to snag a hot, possessive, and broody crime lord 👏🏼 These two are so depraved and hot. Drazen’s tastes are dark—like pitch black. Good thing that darkness gets her all hot and bothered lol 🤭

The amnesia trope is one I sometimes find a little silly, but Jagger did this really well. And I was NOT expecting the twists at the end. I always know the last 15% of a Jagger Cole book is gonna be wild, but this was so so so good!

Thank you to Valentine PR and Jagger Cole for providing an eARC of this book to give my honest opinion.

What Taylor Crown craves, in an effort to juxtapose her life as a girl-boss & high-power attorney, is to be dominated in a primal way. Enter Drazen Krylov, a client at Taylor’s firm and someone on a warpath to claim vengeance for his family. Through chance and circumstance, Taylor and Drazen strike a deal: Taylor must agree to appear to have married Drazen in order for him to help Taylor’s law firm out of a hostile takeover. What follows is a story of forced proximity, true enemies to lovers and shocking twists right until the end.

WOOOOOOOW. I finished this book in a day, I could not put it down! There was so much happening in the story — it never let up! It was SO spicy, riveting and I kept trying to guess what was happening next… and was completely wrong. I love the ‘cliffhanger lite’ which sets us up for the next in the series, while still providing us with a HEA of our FMC and MMC. I normally don’t love an ultra-dominating, possessive and mafioso MMC, but it just worked in this story! I think it also helped how much I liked the FMC and her inner turmoil about her desires, and how she came to be steadfast about them.

I recommend this to lovers of kink, ruthless MMCs and mafia romances with a bit of a thriller twist!

Tropes in this story:
✨Smart, untamable FMC
✨Billionaire, possessive, unaliver MMC
✨Forced proximity
✨Arranged marriage / marriage of convenience
✨Organized crime / Russian ties
✨Enemies to lovers
✨Primal play

Just okay. The concept behind this story was original and it had some intriguing moments. It was a bit convoluted and strange at times, but overall was original in content. It wasn't a read and repeat. The story has allot going on which requires the reader to pay attention. There is plenty of verbal/physical abuse and dark sexual encounters between Taylor and Dresden, but I never considered it a love story. In my opinion dark sex and verbal/physical abuse in order to feel sexually sated doesn't scream "love story". Even by the end of the book I wasn't convinced that Taylor and Dresden were lovers. They had a mutual need to engage in dark sexual acts, but lust and dark sexual kinks doesn't equal a love story.

I have enjoyed this series but didn't love this one. I kept on reading because I liked Taylor's character from the previous books and wanted to see what happened to her. The beginning of the book was a push for me to get through, with the second half a bit better, but not great. Drazen's character lived up to the name of the book. His deep-seated revenge had sent him over the edge from sanity to insanity. He was a savage in a $5,000 suit that epitomized the definition of a psychopath. Throw in his sexual deviant desires and you had a very unlikeable/unredeemable main character. The author tries to make Dresden human the last 20% of the book, but it was too little too late.

I liked Taylor's character to a point. She was smart, strong and independent who had no knowledge of who she was prior to her 18th birthday. I would have hoped that she would have delved deeper into who she was prior to the so called "accident" instead of just moving on. She went toe to toe with Dresden in many ways but did allow him to verbally/physically abuse her throughout the story which didn't sit well with me.

The story has plenty of angst, suspense and unknowns with a cast of characters that do some pretty weird things beginning with Taylor's parents. Who hides a twin from the world because they are so paranoid? Who believes an 18-year-old girl has the ability and wherewithal to pull off an entire massacre of your arranged husband's family in a months' time? Who has a trust fund that is in the millions of dollars that is from parents that were in the CIA?

I really like the author but did find some obvious typos.

When I tell you I DEVOURED this book in less than 24 hours, my GOD.

When chapter 1 has a paragraph like this... "Your safe word will be “Vault”. Until you use it, assume that I’ll do whatever I want to you. I’ll chase you, and catch you, and f**k you hard and mercilessly in any h0!e I choose. We’re not going to “play”. I’m going to make you my personal little 🥵 slut. My f**k toy. My pretty little wh0r3. Are we continuing, or not."... you're in for one hell of a treat.

Taylor is a complete boss b!tch, in complete control of all areas of her life, except the one area she doesn't want to be. Enter Drazen, a match made in absolute k!nky heaven. Their lives are connected already, unbeknownst to them initially. Enter a couple of months of forced living together on an island and you have a dark love story for the ages.

Check your trigger warnings before reading this one, it gets DARK! but for those dark romance girlies, I feel this will be a new fav.

I felt all the times Drazen said good girl 😏

Also, when she warns she's on her period and his response is "I was born in blood, baby girl" and "I was baptised in blood", buckle up, that is one hot as hell scene.

Completely obsessed. This is my favorite book in the series, hands down. Jagger absolutely killed it with this book.

I have waited for Taylor’s book for so long. I’ve loved her as a side character. She’s so down to earth, bad ass, and hilarious. Drazen has intrigued me since he appeared in Gavin’s book and I’ve been so excited to learn more about him. The plot?? Amazing. They had amazing chemistry. The banter between was hilarious. It was a wild ride with so many twists and turns.

Taylor is a finally out of a relationship she really wasn’t happy in. She’s held herself back from exploring her dark fantasies and she finally decides to explore that. Meeting a stranger changes her life completely in so many ways. And it’s not someone who is really a stranger to her at all. Drazen has had a crazy past. He exacted revenge for it years ago. Except now, he learns he missed a key point. And he’s out for blood. But not everything is always as it seems. I had so many guesses as to what was going on. This book definitely kept me so intrigued, that I literally finished it in one sitting.

Please please please pick this book up! It’s a standalone, but I highly recommend checking out the other so you can get a glimpse into these two.

The moment I think like okay this is the most dark MMC Jagger can write... Boom Jagger turns the table upside down, right-left and you will just end up drooling over the MMC. 🤯🤐🤯🤯

Taylor is a full on boss b!tch, she is a girl boss but loves to be dominated and has tons of dark fantasies..🌚🌚🌚

Here comes Drazen, a match made perfectly for Taylor in hell and heaven. He sounds like Honey and Sin 🤤🤤

omg... Drazen is just a bomb.. I loved the dress scene. The power he holds. He said it and it gets done and if not, ahm ahm get ready for the punishment.. And the way he says "GOOD GIRL" 🙇🏻‍♀️

This book was a hell of a ride with a lot of twists and turns. The writing is fast-paced, exciting, action-packed mafia books. This one was very mafia plot driven, I love the mystery that unfolds when we are moving into the book. ❤️❤️

Must read.. Get it now.. 😉

One of the best Jagger Cole books I’ve read. It took me about 30% to get into the rhythm of this book….but once I did I was hooked!!

Drazen is out for revenge and once he realises Taylor (our fierce FMC lawyer) is in fact the wife that betrayed him 15 years ago….well things really take a turn!

Even though I felt like I knew where the plot would end up there were still so many surprises and honestly this book is a classic example of why I devour Jagger Coke Dark Mafia books…..they have everything!!

Yup yup yup, 24 hours and I'm done with this monster(ous) book! I mean come on, how can I not!!! I devoured this one so damm fast. It was amazing. Drazen and Taylor, oh talk about pure hate and hate. These two definitely burnt my kindle. Explaining anything about the story is like a spoiler to me, but holy hell what a doozy this was. Definitely not expecting to go the way it went. I just want to say the amnesia trope is claiming to be the top for me. Please check out the TW and get into this book. Drazen, you the man!!!

Oh my.. My first Jagger Cole book, but it most certainly will NOT be my last. I’m sweating. Drazen and Taylor are captivating and incendiary, and I was hooked by the roller coaster of events throughout this book. Absolutely phenomenal story.
