Our Exception #3

Reluctantly You

Rate this book
They say blood makes you related but loyalty makes you a family…
Sounds like a tacky wall-art quote to me. But what do I know? I don’t have a family. Not anymore. And I definitely don’t know loyalty. Not since my brothers collectively decided to shut me out of their lives... Not since my mother lied to me and kept a devastating secret... Not since my father sold our company out from under me to a smug jerk with a chip on his shoulder.
Gideon Masters… he’s my new boss, and I hate him for everything that’s happened to me. For everything that’s been taken away. Even though I know, deep down, that being an angry bastard all my life hasn’t done me any favors, and that my hatred must have consequences. So maybe Gideon is my rightful punishment. Maybe I deserve his retribution for my sins. But the way he taunts me and torments me, the way he commands me, it all feels too good to be wrong. Maybe I don’t want him to stop. Maybe my punishment could also be my savior.

This story contains intense themes of depression and homophobia, as well as other potential triggers. Please see the full list of trigger warnings at the beginning of the book.

“It’s too messy to be beautiful. Even in the mess, it fucking shines.”

This book..
This fucking book!!
Cora, you ripped my heart out and then slowly stitched it back together 🥹

I am going to be honest and say I expected to severely dislike Mitch, Who wouldn’t after how he has acted?
Could he really redeem himself and realize what a colossal asshole he is?
It hurt, immensely so.
It really caught me by surprise. I had puffy eyes, a stuffy nose and a splotchy face after certain parts of this book. I did not think I would need tissues but I did.

I was caught completely off guard after starting this book. The sheer brokenness and pain that exudes off the page from the jump is what pulled me in.
I love me a broken man but add in the other aspects and I go all in until the end.
Mitch, phew did he get put through the wringer but not only by his parents and his new boss, But also by himself, in the worst way a person can. The pain & struggles throughout this book were written so good.
These men, yes both of them. Both learn acceptance and what forgiveness is. What it can bring to someone.
The redemption in this book is slow, appreciative and beautiful. It is all full circle in many ways.

There are many unseen layers to Mitch and the way he peels back layer by layer makes his journey that much more impactful and meaningful.

The best things come in to play in this book and when they do 🥵 prepare for a damn good time.
Grump/Grump… there’s a secret sunshine but my lips are 🤐
The praise is 🤭
The degradation is 🤌
The dirty talk, phew Gideons mouth is 🔥
Sprinkles of possessiveness & Jealousy 🫦
That tension & a touch of angst 😍
But most of all is the slow burn.

Cora, you did it with this one and then some ♥️ I won’t say how because it gives it away if I do but 🥹 yeah. Never ever expected it but love you for it.

Those side characters we meet, I see you 👀

I refuse to spoil anything for anyone, but this book was the perfect conclusion to this series. The perfect story for Mitch. I wouldn’t dream of changing a single thing. When I finished, I immediately wanted to start the whole series over again. I can’t wait for everyone to read, so I can live vicariously through this story again with all my friends!

Oh Mitch 🥹🥹🥹
I really didn't think I could love Mitch... But I was so fucking wrong!
Out of the brothers, he was the worst and his redemption seemed so far fetched.... But god did I fall for his story 🥹🥹 He broke my heart so many times 💔
And Gideon was so perfect for him!

Does the ending seem a bit too much ? Yes. Did I love it? Absolutely.
The perfect conclusion 🖤

Can we please have Shiloh's story now please? 🙏🏻
