The Invitation

 I hate Ripley Brewer.

So, why am I fake dating him while being trailed by cameras recording our every move?

My best friend was in a pinch, and she’s the only person in the world I would do anything for. Helping her by pretending to be in love with a stranger for a few weeks would net me good karma, a few bucks, and a bit of exposure—all of which I need desperately right now—to help secure my dream job.

Pretty straightforward, right?

What could go wrong?

Ripley. He’s what always goes wrong.

I’m surprised the producers hired Ripley and me for the reality show after we realized we would be working together and not with strangers, and we almost came to blows in the conference room. But they did. Now I’m stuck pretending to be in love with the biggest, cockiest, most gorgeous billionaire playboy in all of Tennessee.

I’m even more shocked at Ripley’s acting skills.

As we settle into our new roles, it becomes increasingly difficult to separate the real Ripley from the character he’s portraying. His strong hand nestled in the small of my back blurs the line between reality and fiction. His dazzling green eyes and decadent smirk distract me from the man I loathe. I could almost believe his small acts of kindness—bringing me soup when I was sick and threatening to dismantle an overbearing ex—were because he was falling for me.

And that I’m falling for him, too.

This season of The Invitation began as an enemies-to-lovers (pretend) romance. Can we possibly finish it with a real-life happy ending?

USA Today Bestselling author, Adriana Locke, writes contemporary romances about the two things she knows best—big families and small towns. Her stories are about ordinary people finding extraordinary love with the perfect combination of heart, heat, and humor.

She loves connecting with readers, fall weather, football, reading alpha heroes, everything pumpkin, and pretending to garden.

Hailing from a tiny town in the Midwest, Adriana spends her free time with her high school sweetheart (who she married over twenty-five years ago) and their four sons (who truly are her best work). Her kitchen may be a perpetual disaster, and if all else fails, there is always pizza.

Let me tell you that this book is amazing!! I fell in love with both the MMC and the MFC. MMC, Jason Brewer will capture your heart so quickly you’ll wonder how it happened. MFC, Chloe Goodman is a person you’d like to have has your BFF. If you loved the Carmichael Brothers hold on to your hat because now we have the Brewer Brothers!! You’ll be happy to know that we’ve already met SOME OF Jason’s siblings too. First we met his brother, Renn in the Proposal and his sister, Bianca with Foxx Carmichael in Flame. But the good news is that Jason still has two more brothers, Tate and Gannon!! Hopefully, this means that we will have at least two more Brewer books coming!!

Jason assumed control of Brewer Aviation as CEO after his dad ran into problems with the law and is incarcerated. Serious, smart, dependable, and protective of his company and family leaves him with little free time to do anything else. Oh, and BTW have I mentioned that he is also drop dead handsome with a strikingly sexy smirk!! Jason is also former military as well as a friends with Foxx Carmichael too. You have to love it when Adriana has her character’s crossover books.

Chloe is a real spitfire but also one of the most upbeat and big-hearted girl you’d meet. When Jason offered her a job at Brewer Aviation he had no idea what a great employee Chloe would turn out to be. She was so meticulous at what she did that she became his executive assistant. Working for Jason was perfect for Chloe since they had been friends from childhood. In fact, I dare to say that Chloe knew him so well that she not only kept his schedule straight but could also contemplate things he needed to do.

Yet there is another side of Chloe that no one at work knew about… not even Jason. After years of taking care of her terminally ill mom she was left with a ton of medical debt. And then there was her grandmother, Mimi who lives with her in their dilapidated apartment because there is no way that Chloe wants her to live in a nursing home!! But when Chloe doesn’t show up to work one day Jason becomes out of sorts and decides to visit her at her apartment. The only thing is that Chloe isn’t there and he meets Mimi. You’ll love Mimi she has an absolute hoot with an unfiltered mouth. Finding Jason at her apartment was upsetting but the final straw was when she got to the office realizing that he had received an eviction notice.

Here is the thing, Jason and Chloe have this friendly, close relationship but have drawn a line to taking it any further. Their biggest fear is loosing the close friendship that they have developed over the years. Although they both have said they have no desire to get married they both have secret feelings for each other. It’s when Chloe walks in on a discussion about a bet Tate has made with Jason. Tate’s bet is that Jason has to get married in the next three years and he has to stay married for 6 months. If he does, Tate will give $100,000 to a charity of Jason’s choosing. Suddenly Chloe announces that she and Jason are getting married and all bets are on!! After all this helps Jason win the bet but for her it’s a way to get herself out of dire straights too. They only thing is that this marriage has to appear real to everyone.

Jason and Chloe definitely going to succumb to the fringe benefits of marriage once married. I mean, what could happen? And what started out as a marriage of convenience begins to become more. Feelings. Promises. Forever? Now it’s time for Jason to convince Chloe that what they have is forever!!

One of the things that I genuinely loved about this book is just how low angst there was. It was a beautiful, sweet and heartfelt romance and Jason and Chloe were just so perfect for each other. Another great book from Adriana!!
