Fear of Falling

Rate this book
Josie Scott swore off men after one too many heartbreaks, perfectly content with her camera, her career, and a nice bottle of red wine. But when a broken elevator traps her with Toronto’s hottest hockey player, Wyatt Boone, what starts as a little flirtation turns into a steamy romance.

Wyatt Boone is left doubting his future on the team after a season-ending injury and the pressure to win another Cup Championship bigger than ever. Being a star hockey player isn’t as glamorous as it seems with constant paparazzi and women seeking fame, so meeting Josie Scott in the broken elevator might just be the unexpected twist he needs.

With the media and fame threatening their relationship, Josie and Wyatt have to decide what's their fear of falling for each other or letting outside forces tear them apart.

Tropes:
-hockey romance
-dual POV
-meet-cute
-forced proximity
-found family
-no third-act breakup
-banter
-instant love

When Josie and Wyatt get trapped together in an elevator in their apartment building, their attraction for each other is quickly discovered, leaving them wondering how they had never met before. Unable to ignore their budding attraction they start to explore their relationship.

Josie is a photographer who works for a local magazine. Since leaving her abusive ex, she has mostly avoided relationships. Wyatt helps her to put her trauma behind her and start to trust again.

Wyatt is an NHL player who also avoids relationships after being scarred by women taking advantage of his status. Josie breaks down those barriers by proving she genuinely cares about him. Wyatt is a big ole cinnamon roll with a filthy mouth. I just loved him.

Their love story is delightful, and I am excited that the author plans to explore the side character’s relationships in future books. All the side characters are intriguing. Wyatt’s family dynamic is so sweet and I love how they welcome Josie and give her a glimpse of the family life she has missed since losing her dad.

This was Kenadee’s debut novel and I will be reading more of her books in the future. I enjoyed her writing. This book is on KU and available now. Go check it out!

P.S. I may or may not have a hockey romance addiction. I will continue to monitor.

Dedication: To every girl who’s ever wanted a dirty mouth hockey player— This ones for you.

Quotes:
“I want to tell you how amazing your daughter is.”
“I also want you to know that one day, I am going to ask your beautiful daughter to marry me. I promise you, I will give her the life she deserves and love her until my last breath, because she is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
“And I promise she will never feel unloved when I’m by her side.”

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I love a good Hockey book and this did not let me down!! Wyatt and Josie meet while trapped overnight in an elevator.

Wyatt loaned Josie his shirt which she brings him at the rink. Then asks her out on a date. They start to build their relationship from their. There is something about a dirty mouth hockey boy that gets me every time!

But will the pressure of being. A hockey girl be too much for Josie?

I am excited to see if the books involve the girl circle because I love the bro-mance and girl chat!! They both made me want to see more of them!

⛸️ Hockey romance
⛸️ Close proximity
⛸️ Love at first sight
⛸️ Dual POV
⛸️ Golden retriever MMC
⛸️ Slow burn
⛸️ Bad ass/super supportive girl gang

I am in my #hockeyera and with her debut indie novel, Kenadee delivered the heat 🔥

Wyatt Boone was the perfect balance between cinnamon roll/golden retriever with a dirty side and we love that 😈

Josie Scott was stubborn, stubborn, STUBBORN but after countless relationshits (no, that is not a spelling error) she finds herself yielding to one hockey captain hard and fast.

While I don’t typically immediately reach for “slow burn” romances (the spice hit around 60% in this novel), I loved how quickly the budding relationship between the two MCs bloomed proving there truly is no set amount of time to fall in love.

4.5/5 🌶️

First and foremost I’d like to say, wow. I absolutely love hockey romances. I’ve read my fair share of them. But this one by far has topped them all. Wyatt is absolutely the PERFECT book boyfriend. He is every girls dreams, well most 😅

He is so loving, caring, attentive and supportive of Josie and throughout the whole book you watch their love grow, and my lord the chemistry between them.

This book with have you laughing at the brotherly relationship between Wyatt, Landon, and Mateo. Will have you swooning, kicking your feet and giggly over Wyatt. & when the spice comes in, baby you’re in for an absolute treat. This man is so soft and such a gentleman the mouth on him will shock you to your core & bayyybe was it hot.

Kenadee, you absolutely blew me away. This was my first book but you and I can say I’m absolute a fan, and cannot wait to read more. I am so excited to tread Trevor and Tasha book & hope we get a book on Landon and Lydia. 🫶🏽

Ps if you love a golden retriever/ Doberman this book is for you. The story, the character building, the love and bonding is beautiful.

ARC review for Fear of Falling by Kendaee Bryant

Thanks to Kenadee and Naughty Nook PR for the ARC opportunity!

Featured tropes: sports romance, forced proximity, found family, instalove, dominant MMC

Triggers: reference to past physical abuse, reference to past abandonment by a parent, past death of a parent

Review: 3/5

This was Kenadee's debut novel, a hockey romance which we all know speaks to my soul despite knowing nothing about and having never seen a hockey game in my life. But I see hockey, I'm probably going to read it. Sue me.

Things I liked:
- I loved the found family aspect both Wyatt and Josie had. They each have their people and they are all fiercely protective of one another while still giving each other sass. I also liked Wyatt's family dynamic. I'm a sucker for a close family.
- Because of the solid found family aspect, there's a great cast of side characters. I'm intrigued by Tasha and want to know more about the relationship she's sure to develop with Trevor. And I think there's a lot about both Lydia and Landon that we don't know that will be fun to discover in what I'm sure will be their book. Generally speaking, the characters all had great banter and there were definitely parts that made me giggle because of the hell they were giving each other.

Things I disliked or missed the mark:
- I found the whole thing a little boring. I really don't think this book needed to be almost 400 pages. There wasn't a ton of angst or drama which is okay, but then the length just made the story feel unnecessarily long. I was bored enough in the last 50% that I found myself skimming the chapters. We finally get a little drama at 86% and from there I started actually reading again.
- This is dual POV but only about 25%. There's 44 chapters but only 10 of them are from Wyatt's perspective. Of our two MCs, I liked Wyatt more so the fact he was only 10 of the chapters was a bummer for me. It's not that I disliked Josie but I found her a little boring which, therefore, made me less excited for her perspective (and probably why I found the book overall a little blah). I think she could have been a very interesting character if we had a little more insight to her history. We learn about her relationship past but, really, it's all boiled down to one conversation with Wyatt and I think it made it all seem glossed over when it could have really developed her into a more nuanced FMC.

Overall, this was fine debut novel for Kendaee. There's a strong foundation for additional books in the series and, while I might not be first in line on their future release days to read them, I'd probably circle around to reading them eventually.

Thank you so much to Kenadee Bryant and Naughty Nook PR for sending me an arc of this book before it is published.

When Wyatt (a star hockey player trying to come back from an injury) and Josie (a photographer and journalist) get stuck in their buildings elevator overnight, they start a friendship and very quickly develop feelings for each other. But between Wyatt's fame and injury, and Josie's trauma from her previous relationships, will they manage to get their happy ending?

I first read this book on Wattpad and loved it, so when I found out it was going to be published I was so excited to read it and I was not disappointed! Wyatt is such a sweetheart and I adore him so much. The relationship between Wyatt and Josie is so amazing, and I loved getting to read their journey. There were so many extra chapter and extra scenes that made me love Wyatt even more, which I didn't think was possible. I loved that there was no third act breakup and they talked through their conflicts. The nickname 'lil rebel' was probably the best addition to the book, it was so adorable and omg I swooned every time it was said.

The elevator scene was amazing and their witty banter is just so sweet. You could really feel the love and chemistry between them and the way they supported each other was everything.

The spicy scenes were so well written and I definitely need to douse myself in some holy water now.

Josie and Wyatt's friends were just as amazing, Trevor specifically, I love him so much and I am so excited to read Trevor and Tasha's story next year!

This book was so well written and really well paced and I loved it!

I highly recommend this book to everybody who loves these tropes:
-hockey romance
-he falls first
-found family
-spicy scenes
-he falls harder
-trapped in elevator

Hockey romances come in all shapes and sizes. Some are dark, some are super spicy, some are super sweet. Fear of Falling fits mostly in the super sweet column, with a dash of spicy, dirty talk. It is the story of a photographer and journalist who gets trapped in an elevator with the pro hockey player that lives in her building. As a big fan of the sport of hockey, I will read almost any hockey romance and I thought this one was well written and a sweet romance story. I loved the banter that the two had and just thought they were so cute together. And even though Wyatt was so cute when he is with Josie, he is not above some dirty talk when they are alone together.

I loved Wyatt, especially when he first meets Josie. He was very cute in his infatuation and his nervousness in going after her. I loved that he loved his family and his brothers were great. As someone who has dealt with multiple knee surgeries, I can feel the pain of how a knee injury can take you out of it and the struggle it can be to get back to the top. I can always appreciate a cinnamon roll that knows what he wants in the bedroom.

What I can really appreciate about Josie is that she is not someone who has no knowledge of the sport. She follows the team and knows who Wyatt is when she meets him. But she doesn’t go all fan girl over him. She gets to know him and appreciates him for who he is, not the hockey player. Josie is strong and knows who she is, which is always something I love to see in an FMC.

This was a great hockey romance without a lot of angst and darkness. There is a decent amount of spice, but it isn’t something that is rushed into. The book is well written and flows nicely. It is a little long, at almost 400 pages, but it is not so long that it made me lose interest before the end.

Found Family

Tropes :

He Falls First
Found Family
Dirty Mouth Hockey Player
Stuck in Elevator
New Adult Romance

Josie uses her skills with her camera for a local magazine, when one night she asked to cover a local high school football game. She's a hockey fan.. After taking pictures and dodging all the football players who think they have shot at her, she is finally done and going home, although on her way up the elevator gets stuck. But not only that, she's not alone! Although she knows who's with her, she does not make a big deal out of it. She knows people like to keep to themselves..

Wyatt is the star hockey player for Toronto and is having a hard time coming back from an injury, his head just can't seem to get in the game. He is stressed and feels like he is letting everyone down. He hasn't had the best of luck with the ladies who seem to only want him for his fame and what he can do for them. SO while he is stuck in the elevator with Josie he tries to keep his face hidden until she reveals she knows who he is, and is surprised she isn't freaking out and fawning all over him..

They spend a great night together talking and then once the building gets the elevator fixed Josie makes a plan so that Wyatt is not in the spotlight. They go their separate ways and neither can stop thinking about the other one, but neither got each others numbers. Josie takes matters into her own hands.

I loved this story, I couldn't put it down and man I cannot wait for the next book!!

🩵🤍🩵 ARC Review 🩵🤍🩵

Firstly, massive thank you to Kenadee and the team at Naughty Nook PR for letting me read the ARC for Kenadee's debut novel!

🩵Found Family
🤍6'2" Pro Hockey Player (with a dirty mouth)
🩵Ricks Food Truck!
🤍He Falls First
🩵Banter
🤍Phone S*x
🩵TW - Mentions of Past Abuse

I read this book over the space of 2 days, it would have been in one go....but a girl needs to sleep when she has to work!

This book is beautifully written, the characters are perfect and the BANTER between all of them makes it such a fun read. Inside jokes, playful wind-up arguments, sarcasm....all the things that make relationships fun and more "real"

Wyatt Boone is pro-hockey-player PERFECTION. The way Kenadee captures his inner turmoil about being the famous face of hockey in Toronto made my heart ache for him throughout the book. He is a gentleman through and through....until his filthy mouth takes over and drives Josie crazy with lust!

Kenadee captures Josie's own struggles in a way that makes you be able to relate to her like you know her. She has her insecurities and has been through some rough s*it in her past. You can't help but want to be part of her girl group!

I loved this book, it made me laugh, cry, squeal....the spice was great and fit in with the flow of the whole book.

There is a chapter near the end where Josie goes to visit her father...I.was.SOBBING!!

Can't wait to read the next book. Congratulations on an AMAZING Debut Novel!

One stuck elevator + one cardboard-flavored nutrition bar + one hockey jersey = true love.

I'm not even kidding, this book was so much fun, I literally did not put it down once I picked it up.
Is Wyatt Boone the perfect man? Pretty much, yeah (it’s okay, I already told my husband). He's so caring and supportive of Josie, from the second he meets her. He's such a gold retriever MMC...until the door's closed, then that filthy mouth comes out to play.
Josie is such a great match for Wyatt. She loves him for who he really is on the inside, not the NHL superstar on the outside. Does it help? Hell yeah. She's also incredibly strong; not letting her past define her present.
You know who else is great? It's actually every single other character in this book. Oh my gosh, I literally cannot pick a favorite. They are all perfectly amazing. This is the strongest found family I've ever seen.
Hockey romances are my favorite books, and as a rabid hockey fan, it was great to read one where the FMC has actual sports knowledge. It's just truly unfortunate that the only real team mentioned was the Calgary Flames. Booo! It's fine, I'll still read the next book in the series.
I loved how low angst this was. Like, there's still some drama, sure, but not so much that it's the whole point. A lot of the drama was internal self doubts, anyway.
I really, truly loved the whole experience of reading Josie and Wyatt's love story, and I can't wait for the development of the rest of the crew.

Thank you Kenadee Bryant for sending me a copy of your book! This book was a super quick and sweet read. These characters were super fun and I did like the story concept. I like how the book starts off right away with their interaction. The banter between the two was so smooth and easy! And really fun to read, right off the bat Josie and Waytt seemed like they fit. This book was very movie coded! There were just so many cute moments, The dates they went on were so cute to read! Josie was blunt and kind! But she struggled with a lot of insecurities (one I can relate too) and I loved how Wyatt was there to comfort and helped with each and every one! Content on reassuring and showing her the love that she didn’t know she deserved! Wyatt was absolutely book boy material. He was so incredibly attentive and sweet and so thoughtful! I loved when Wyatt randomly called Josie cute nicknames! Making my heart do flips (every “baby” got me😫) I like that both Josie and Wyatt were constantly thinking if what they were doing was too fast or not. I like how aware they were about that even though they were probably going kinda fast. My only issue when reading was that for most of the book the couple was on cloud nine and bliss and it didn’t really seem like there was a plot to come and it was just them living happily ever after. The last couple chapters that could be “deemed” as a plot kinda fell flat for me. I wish there was more towards the end. But overall it was a super cute hockey read!

Yep, yep, I am hopelessly in love with Wyatt Boone, our MMC. What that actually means in Book Dragon terms is that this series has my heart and the author has my attention.

Finding herself stuck in an elevator with an extremely attractive neighbor, Josie Scott does what anyone would do and has a conversation with him since they're forced in very close proximity. She very quickly realizes that she is stuck with Wyatt Boone, captain of the NHL team in Toronto.

I'll be honest and admit that I was a teensy concerned that these characters were going to be insta-lovey because when I say they have chemistry, I mean it. It was completely unfounded though as both of these characters were well developed and had very believable backgrounds that made the promised hesitation about a relationship pay off in an organic way that absolutely makes you root for these two. This was an enthusiastic 4 🌟 read.

Book 2 comes out in 2025 and I cannot wait.

Thank you very much to @naughtynookpr and the author for providing me with a copy. My review is, as always, honest, and my opinions are my own.

Thank you Kenadee Bryant and Naughty Nook PR for this ARC read.

Hockey romance, say no more. I will read it.
This is the story of Professional Hockey team Captain Wyatt Boone and photographer Josie. After a long day for both characters who are just trying to get home to relax and live life in the serenity of their own spacem they get stuck in their buildings elevator. Wyatt with his hat down low, attempting to hide from the world who he is and Josie, who notices the team logo, doesn't want Wyatt to feel as though she is the "puck bunny stalker" type. Hours in the elevator and witty banter that is to die for, they are rescued from the elvator after spening all night together.

The character developement and the story each charcater brings on their own kept me reading. I really enjoyed watching out these two came together, got to know eachother and support one another along the way with no qualms. Wyatt is swoon worthy and Josie is sweet as can be with a side of "pepper paste."

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cleansing read, hockey romance lover, or to someone who is looking for a new author. I can't wait to see what comes next...

One of My Favorite Reads of 2024!

I loved everything about this book! The FMC Josie is so sweet and relatable, especially with everything she's been through. Life has not been easy for her, and the last thing she was looking for was love. Then she gets trapped in her apartment elevator with none other than star hockey player and heart throb Wyatt Boone. She has been surviving up until that point, but with Wyatt she learns how to thrive again! He's everything she didn't know she wanted in life.

Wyatt was at a high point in his career as a professional hockey player and captain of his team when an unfortunate injury in the championship game last season threw him off his game. The losses just keep coming. His team is struggling, but after meeting Josie and finding a new perspective on his recovery he hits it off in both his games and his new relationship.

The banter is top notch between these two and the spice is hot! This book had me giggling, blushing, and tearing up at all the right moments. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and feel so lucky to have done an advanced read of it.

Hey Alexa, play I Can Do it with a Broken Heart

I am such a sucker for a hockey romance and this book did not disappoint. Throw in some “he falls first” and *swooooon*. Fear of Falling by Kenadee Bryant follows NHL star Wyatt Boone and magazine photographer Josie Scott.

This book starts off with a bang with the two MCs getting stuck in an elevator together for an entire night and discovering they actually live in the same building. Wyatt is recovering from an injury but is quickly learning that the recovery process is so much more than physical. Josie, sweet Josie, has not had an easy life. Will she be able to work through her past heartbreak and grief and allow herself to love and be loved again?

What I loved: the spice, banter, angst, heartbreak, and growth. This story was well-paced with a good mix of spice without taking away from the plot. I also adored Wyatt’s brothers and hope we see more of them in the future.

What to expect:
Hockey romance
Forced proximity
He falls first and harder
Found family

Thank you so much Kenadee Bryant and Naught Nook PR for the advanced reader copy.

Josie and Wyatt share a moment when the elevator in their apartment building stops working with them on it. Their experience creates a foundation for their friendship, sass and banter galore. Between his career as a star hockey player and her journalism position at her friend's magazine, the two find themselves balancing their jobs with the hurdles of first dates, meeting the family, and getting thrown into the spotlight. Does their fear of falling outweigh the power of finding love?

This story was a hockey love story, first and foremost. Both MCs know the trials of being an athlete, and they bond over their history. Josie is a journalist for an up and coming magazine while Wyatt is a legend on the ice. I loved how he taught her how to skate because he did it with affection. His family and team accepted her from day one, and her family found themselves adding a few hockey plus ones. The found family vibes were strong in this one, which I adored. Josie and Wyatt had a few speed bumps in their story, but they overcame everything gracefully. Thank goodness for best friends who talk you out of a third act breakup! We stan a healthy relationship, and this one had it in spades.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a lovely sport romance story with just enough spice in it!
The story is filled with romantic moments, the moment they got stucked in the elevator till the part he takes her on a date day. They go to all the places Josie dreamed of going to. It just showed how much Wyatt really cares for her.

The way he makes Josie whole again and not ashamed of the things her exes told her (the way she laugh and much more) My heart melted, so cute. 🥰 He is such a sweatheart to her, the way he is proud and protective of her.

I loved the chapter where Josie meets the mother of Wyatt and the brothers. How well she raised her boys all by herself and makes the best out of them. Wow respect! I laughed so hard on Mateo the way he is flirting with Josie and making Wyatt irritated (and realising what he feels for Josie)

If you like a slow romance, a sport (ice hockey) romance and just enough spice this book is for you!

Ps. I’m excited for the next story about Tasha! Really want to know her secret ❤️

First off, thank you so much to Kenadee Bryant and Naughty Nook PR for this advanced copy of Fear of Falling ✨💖

I LOVED this book and flew through it in literally two days. When I found out it was a hockey romance I was immediately sold but I also loved both of the main characters so much. The banter between Josie and Wyatt had me laughing and smiling constantly while reading. I really enjoyed the building of their relationship and they had palpable tension 🤭. The 🌶️ was definitely there!

I also really appreciated that there was no third act breakup and that they talked through their conflicts like mature adults.

The friends introduced in the series also seem really fun and interesting. I can’t wait to read subsequent books about their love stories too!! 🥰🥰

Read this book if you love:

When reading this book I was amazed on how well it was written. And how different it was to the Wattpad version and how it wants more in depth of Josie and Wyatt relationship.

When I was reading one of the scenes I was expecting something similar to the Wattpad version but it was different in a good way like it was better and the scene was when the media linked of Josie and Wyatt relationship I was expecting something similar but it was better the original version how Wyatt was more protective of Josie. And how the just didn’t say “ I love you”during the scene. I like how there said” I love you” in the elevator. That was my favorite scene of the whole book.

I like that author add more to the book and made more engaging with the characters in the book.

I question why did you change Sydni name in the book to Mila?

Also it was amazing to read I love it and that why I give it a five star in the reviews.

Fear of Falling by Kenadee Bryant

I fell in love with these characters back on wattpad update by update. So I didn't think I could love them anymore than I already did. But I was wrong! Wyatt Boone was one of my OG Book boyfriends! This man I'd absolutely swoonworthy! From the moment you meet him you just know this man is going to steal your heart right along with Josie's and anyone else who reads this book!!

From the moment I opened this book I was hooked! And it starts in a way where you want to just devour it! & I did!

The independence and strength of Josie. And how real she is. And Wyatt that man! From the way he cares for Josie. The love and support his gives her. His dirty mouth. Just everything about him!!

This book is absolutely amazing. The chemistry between these two pour off the pages. The connections. The banter between all the friends, the spice and all the feels! Adored this book and def recommend!! 🩵

Fear of Falling by Kenadee Bryant

Arc review

Kenadee’s writing style is eye-catching and addicting. I’ve always loved reading her books since joining Wattpad. Her characters are relatable and hot! Any time I read her books, a movie plays in my head and I can see it play vividly.  I’m a sucker for hockey romances, Kenadee lives up to my expectations when she writes sports romances. I couldn’t control my smile while reading. Wyatt and Josie's story is adorable! They are one of the couples that tell each other how they feel without any miscommunication. Wyatt is on my list as my favorite MMC. He's gentle, kind, and sexy. He falls for her first and it's so amazing. As much as he wants to shut down, he cannot help but fall for her. Who could blame him? Josie's honest, hardworking, beautiful, and vulnerable. She doesn't keep her feelings away, tells Wyatt her insecurities from her past and he takes all of her 😏😉. I loved every page and scene! Five stars! Can't wait for book two!

🌶🌶🌶.5

I was lucky to receive an ARC of Fear of Falling by @kenadeebrynauthor.
After a bad day for both Josie, a magazine photographer and NHL hockey player Wyatt they end up being stuck together in their apartment building lift. Little did they know the hours stuck would make their lives take a turn in the opposite direction. Wyatt hides himself, not wanting to draw attention due to past issues, little does he know Josie is a massive hockey fan, who knows him but doesn't want Wyatt to know that.
Her hockey knowledge surprises everyone and even helps the coach and team!
The dynamic of this couple is so sweet, with a side of spice and flows throughout the book. How they discuss issues rather than ignore them is so beautifully written. They deserve each other. Love the interaction with their family and friends and can't wait for the next book!

Who knew how much I would love the “stuck in an elevator” trope? Author Kenadee Bryant, in her recent release “Fear of Falling,” builds a hockey romance from this adorablely developed trope. Readers will not get the hit-it-and-quit scenes at the front end of the story, but the outcome is well worth the wait. Wyatt has a way with his words, and Josie loves it.

As I was reading, I felt their relationship building—the little butterflies happening as Wyatt and Josie got to know each other, the heat building as they grew even closer until that moment.

Kenadee Bryant has brought two characters together with past relationship challenges who are open to working together healthily to build something new together. Though “Fear of Falling” is a slow-burn romance, the spice scenes are well-written and well worth it.

Fear of Falling is the debut novel for Kenadee Bryant and it does not disappoint.

Wyatt has the outward appearance and personality of being a bit of a player, but the more we get to know him the more it seems like it is just an illusion. He is a sweetheart and a gentleman who is super caring of those he loves.

Wyatt and Josie get trapped on an elevator together and are able to just be themselves and develop a great friendship and bond with each other. They had a lot of great banter with each other and you can tell why their friendship was able to be strong enough to build a relationship together.

There were a lot of great side characters which made the story funny and enjoyable. Definitely excited to read the next books in the series.

4.5 ⭐️

Yet another hockey romance, but I’m not complaining! I seem to be in a couple of eras (and this is one).

The thrill of the game, a strong FMC, and lovable MMC and a host of friends and family to pull more books from 😉. What more do you need in a romance? I will say there wasn’t a huge angst portion (which probably a good thing with my current mood reading), but I appreciated the simplicity of not drawing out that element. I was able to enjoy the relationship, the characters, the spice and the elevator with ease.

I look forward to reading more in the series as they become available! (I need to know who wins!)
