Popular Susanna makes a bet with her quiet best friend Cassidy that she can give up guys--but can she prove it? Sequel to "It's No Crush, I'm In Love."
This is one of those books with a silly title and a silly cover, and inside there's unexpected depth. Plus, there's wit and humor, language jokes, and references to the Brontes and Jane Austen. I really enjoyed Susanna's journey, and I'll certainly be on the lookout for more books by June Foley.
June Foley's book It's No Crush I'm in Love prompted me to read Pride & Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and Jane Eyre at age 11. I'm only sad I had to wait until age 47 to read the sequel. The first is about a P&P fan, this stars her best friend (and my favorite character) who loves WH. They don't write YA like this anymore, and the world is much the poorer for it.
2022 Review Still in love with these characters and their story! I wish it was more popular!
Original Review: "It was worth it." This book has long been a favorite of mine ever since I found it in the second hand store in town. I was caught by the cover and title and thought I needed to read this. It looked like a lot of fun. And you know, I was right- when I am wrong? Heh. Anyway, this book introduced me to English and classics. There were references to the greats, like Austen, Bronte, and Melville. Even baseball heroes and one certain kielbasa hero. Gaggles, exaltations, technicolor yawns, crashes, Marthas, Latin. Moving on, the characters all had a sense of humor and I'm looking forward to learning more about Cassidy in It's No Crush, I'm in Love!
