River

Call me Cinderella. I’m a rags to riches story - girl from trailer park becomes Hollywood starlet. And I’m about to get my happy ever after.

That is, until I walk in to my house, three hours before my wedding, to find my rock star fiance sticking his c**k down my sister's throat.

With cameras behind me, filming.

I’m running from the whole humiliating thing. I’m not prepared to run straight into him- Elias Saint.

He’s completely wrong for me- damaged, dirty, and demanding.

But once he touches me, I can’t walk away.

Elias

Some people carry their wounds on the inside. Every f**cking step I take, I’m reminded of mine.

I lost my leg in Afghanistan. Since then, I’ve just been lost.

Now I’m going back to West Bend, Colorado, the place my brothers and I ran like hell to get away from.

And she’s hitched a ride- River Andrews.

A f**cking movie star.

This isn’t a fairytale. Happy endings don’t exist. And I’m no f**ing Prince Charming.

But, for her, there’s a chance I might be.

**This is a full length novel - 330 paperback pages.**

I've actually read this book once before I was offered an arc but because when I received the arc for Luke there where all the books in one I decided to read it again and see if I've had a change of heart.

description

But for me that was not the case...the things that I loved about the book I still did and the things that I didn't like where still there and bugging me so what can I say?

description

Ok...so I loved the fact that Elias was a veteran with a missing leg and a prosthetic but River didn't give a damn about that...she liked him just the way he was...hot, steamy guy with no clue of who she is :P

description

Elias Saint is going back to West Bend after his fathers death and on the way he helps a beautiful woman that's running from the paparazzi.

description

River Andrews is trailer park trash turned into hot movie star and after finding her fiancée cheating on her with her own sister she has had enough and makes a run for it only to be found by the paps. After Elias helps her evade them she asks him to take her to West Bend with him and that's where their story begins.

description

But she can't stay hidden for ever and in the end she has to chose. What's it going to be? Love or her career?

description

What I didn't really like about this books was the fact that it felt a little to incredulous and it was very uneventful...too dull...when it could have had a little more drama.

But I loved the fact that there is a underlining story forming in this book that further develops in the next novels and that was genius :D

River is an actress who is engaged to a rock star. She comes home one day and catches her fiance and her sister together. If that's not bad enough, there is a camera crew behind her and they are filming. Humiliated and angry, River takes off and goes to Vegas. In Vegas, she meets the very sexy Elias. Elias was injured in Afghanistan, lost his leg, and has been discharged from the military. The chemistry between these two is really hot. I really liked this couple but what I enjoyed most was that there was no stupid back and forth between them. They both knew what they wanted and went after it - and it was hot! There was a little angst and a little drama in this book but it set up nicely for the next book in this series about one of Elias' brothers. I think this is going to be a really good series and I can't wait for the next book!

I think I missed it.

I…well…hmm…

I should have known from the opening that this was going to be a struggle. The middle was a little better. But the ending? I was supposed to feel and be overcome with emotion and say awwww, but

This was just okay for me. I hate misunderstandings and miscommunication plus holding back "secrets". So, I was a little irked that at 82% River still is thinking it's just a fling and is holding back the truth about her movie. She sorta deserved to "overhear" Elias. Then the freaking just pissed me off too. I'll probably skip Silas. Not really sure I cared much for him in this one. Hopefully Luke and Killian are much better.

I didn't have a lot of expectation when I picked this up. I simply interested to read it after reading an excerpt in Prick. I'm looking forward to some no nonsense sexy read and I got it in Elias.

River Andrews, is a famous actress on the run from her messed up life in Hollywood. She then found solace and peace when she hitched a ride with Elias and end up in West Bend, Colorado.

Elias Saint, is a retired Navy with a busted leg, who is reluctant to return back his hometown West Bend, where his family is the social pariah. Having stumble upon River might just be the distraction he needs to endure going back home.

I enjoyed their small town romance fling and Elias is such an interesting grumpy ass cum dirty talker. They have such a great chemistry together and some of their sarcastic banter give me some fun eye rolling moments.

Despite this isn't some profoundly deep read, I find both their characters are rather fleshed out. We learned a lot of their background and childhood growing up. I've met all of Elias brothers and I'm totally intrigue by Silas, his twin brother. I'm surprised that there is a mystery towards the end in regards to the Saint family. Can't wait to read the next one.

I'm clearly late to the party with this author/series. Never mind, I've definitely arrived now and I'm thinking I'm staying til the end.
This is so very much my kind of book, I have no idea how it slipped under my radar.
Hero-Elias- ex-military, still waters run deep, dirty talking, alpha badass , witty and loyal. Sign me up.
Heroine-River- strong, sweet, vulnerable, backbone, dignified and really likeable. Count me in.
Good story, excellent secondary characters and promise of sooooo much more to come. I am ALL over this like white on rice. This book is low angst, hot passion, well written and I couldn't put it down. The secondary characters of June & Cade intrigued me so much that I had a look to see if there was a book for them and there was! *(Saving Axe) *hugs Kindle in delight and activates the 1-Click*
I'm off to read the next one.....

This book is not about bikers - the series is about four brothers, the Saint brothers who grew up in a small town called West Bend.
Its the kinda book you'd read with a cuppa, think had some steamy sex scenes, enjoy reading but wouldn't find memorable.
I hate re-summarising the blurb of books so I won't bother. I thought the characters were alright but I didn't really feel like I got to know them that much, the storyline was a bit ridiculous but kinda cute, the sex was hot & the ending was a HFN but it was in my opinion too rushed.

I would read the next in the series before I wrote it off..

Am I ever going to learn! It’s okay...trial and error baby. TRIAL. AND. ERROR.

Elias Saint is a Navy EOD veteran who has been retired against his will after he lost his leg while deployed in Afghanistan. He’s in Vegas partying it up with his Navy brothers as a last hurrah, dreading going back home to his small town West Bend and its small town drama. Of course, the fact that the Saint brothers are notorious for being hated by everyone in the town might have a little something to do with his reluctance to return. While in Vegas he meets River Andrews, a Hollywood startlet who just wants to get away after being humiliated by her douche bag of a fiance and her trashy model of a sister. River wants to run away for a little while and West Bend seems like the perfect place to do so, especially with a hot veteran leading her there.

I enjoyed this book even though it’s wasn’t anything special. Elias tried to be a book with substance, it really did. It just fell short. Elias and River both have pretty sordid pasts but they weren’t explored or expounded upon enough to really give the story that extra depth or make you care about the characters on more than just the surface level. River has mommy issues but deals with it in a pretty passive way. Elias and his brothers have all fallen out with one another but its never revealed what any of them did to get on bad terms. They just don’t talk to or like one another.

The book had 331 pages but they weren’t really filled with anything of importance. Just a bunch of Elias and River having random meaningless conversation with two side characters, eating food, and having sex. The sex scenes were pretty good which is really the only reason I didn’t dislike this book. However, while the occasional sex scene is fun and entertaining to read, I still want character development and substantial plot progression.

I think what I enjoyed most about Elias and River was that they didn’t beat around the bush when it came to their sexual attraction to one another. Nothing annoys me more in a book than when a character, or both characters try to fight what we all know is going to eventually happen. I’m not saying there needs to be a rush or anything, because lord knows I love me a slow burn. But when it takes 250 pages out of a 320 page book to get to business, it can be a little frustrating. Elias and River both knew what they wanted and they went for it and it was refreshing to see that for once.

I enjoyed the hint of an improved relationship between the brothers which is why I’m even considering reading the next couple of books in this series. I love when brothers are tight and have really close relationships. But the way in which their relationship was reconciled felt forced. It felt like more of a set up to get them together without having to actually make any effort to explain why they were estranged in the first place.

It could have been better is what it all boils down to. Less random arguing and more plot development.

TRIAL AND ERROR! New Adult is still a pretty new “genre” so I know its going to take some time to get it right. I should maybe try to stop buying the ones with shirtless men on the cover :). Its so TEMPTING though!

I did enjoy this one. It kept me hooked from page one.

My issue came with the quick ending and lack of information.

Toward the end, River does an interview and I was really curious as to what she told the interviewer. The scene ended too early for me. I also wanted to know what happened with the tell all book her mother wrote. The other question I had, was about River's past. Things were hinted at, but I was a little disappointed that she really didn't talk about things with Elias. My other issue was her sister and ex. I was really hoping for a show down with them.

Overall, the story was good. I'd continue with the series because I want to know more about Elias's brothers and what was going on with their parents.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. River was a great heroine and who could resist Elias. He made me swoon from the very beginning. Of course the fact that he was a delicious dirty talker was an added bonus!

This is definitely a series I look forward to reading.

I liked the premise of the story and the characters & love the author's writing style. The wrap up just didn't leave me a happy camper.

The characters pull you into their lives immediately. She's a poor girl made good, but at the cost of drowning her soul & feelings in superficial masks. She has a lot of demons pulling her down. He's an alpha that's dealing with a lot of anger at being forced out of the military and the uncomfortableness of going home to an f'd up family.

The Kardashian scene / serial killer scene was cute:) I love the subtle touches of humor like that which the author uses to break up tension and add flavor to the story. For example, "June was a few feet behind him, brandishing a shotgun in one hand and a baby monitor in the other." The author has a way with adding some touch of something just a little off that gives you a visual of the scene and a little internal laugh.

While there was a lot more of the cute, funny, snarky moments in "Prick: A Stepbrother Romance," and I did like that book much better than this one, this book still had a couple good moments.

The author also has a way with phrasing that's simple, but that brings such a ringing truth to scenes without going into long, mundane diatribes and inner monologues. For example, "God rest his soul, my mother said when she called to tell me the news. I'd laughed bitterly. Can't rest what you don't have, I'd told her." The author has a talent at making every word count, is poignant.

Now the BAD:(

I think something went amiss with the story somewhere around 70-80%. Everything started to feel like it was rushed, thrown together without all the pieces. I understand this is a series, with each featuring a Saint brother, but this is supposed to be a standalone... Ie Elias and River's story should be neatly wrapped up.

Not the case, though. In fact, most of Elias and River's individual stories were left way too open ended. The relationship between River and her ma and sister was just abandoned. We were teased with foul play in Elias's family deaths, but that too is just left dangling. The Sheriff's odd comment is never addressed, explained. River's future plans are mentioned in the epilogue, but after hearing about Elias's sketch book and aspirations earlier in the story, I was disappointed that we don't get to hear his future plans. Her cutting issues are never addressed. Neither character ever share their histories with the other; they have no idea the hell the other has endured & that really put a damper on the "I love you" & left this as a story of two people lusting but that have no idea who the other really is, was, or could be in the future. Aside from the nitty gritty of the romance, ALL the other aspects of the book are left flapping in the wind:/ Not cool!

Could've been a 3 1/2-4 star book, but, with much of it never concluding, I can't rate this more than a 2 1/2.

"All of this.....it's beyond good."

"He didn't say anything. But I felt his hands on my waist, and then one hand on my thigh, pushing my legs apart."

Elias. ...oh man...sexy, dirt talking Elias...he is just well.....

yeah.....he is that!!!

Besides all that sexy....Elias is a retired marine injured while serving duty. Comes back to good old small town Colorado with the feisty actress River Andrews by his side. After saving the Hollywood actress from a life she's not sure she wants anymore, they drive to the secluded hometown of Elias. Hiding out in a bed & breakfast and have lots....I mean lots.....of steaming hot sex!!

Don't get me wrong...I love me some steam, but I know there are some secrets that were never answered. I really need some answers. I have a feeling the wonderful Miss Paige leaves those secrets unanswered to tie these brothers and their hellish life together in more books to come.

I have my fingers crossed, legs too, that bad boy twin brother Silas has some more answers for me!!!

My opinion.
I could not connect. I tried. Three times. The frequent switch in POVs drove me nuts. I could not connect with the heroine. I just did not like her. The attraction was INSTA. They kissed immediately, drunk in the hotel hallway. Nothing else happened, but they "daydreamed" about eachother. So predictable...so everything I do not care for in my stories. The heroine was quick to jump and kiss a stranger after catching her fiance with her sister.

May work for you, it did not work for me.

This was my first non-stepbrother book by Sabrina Paige. I enjoyed the story but it was super fast paced. It wasn't insta luv but they fell in love over a weeks time, so in a way it was.

Our heroine has a bit of a traumatic past but she doesn't really go into it, kind of not so much, glossed over what happens, but doesn't really address it. I was hoping for more of that.

The whole book felt rushed but it was still a good read.

It took me about 20% in to connect, then the story began to flow and I started to like the characters - especially Elias. There were 1 or 2 errors (diffused instead of defused), but they were minor and did not pull me out of the story or lessen the enjoyment. I think I will read more of the series - I'm interested in Silas (Elias' twin). 3.5 rounded stars.

Kindle Unlimited books are always a hit or miss with me. I have read a book by Sabrina Paige before andI enjoyed it and I enjoyed this one as well.

River is a movie star running away from a cheating fiancé and a mom who takes all her money. She runs to Vegas and thats where she meets Elias. Elias is "celebrating" his Navy retirement in Vegas. He was injured my a bomb explosion and lost his leg. He also does not want to retire. He sees River and he has no clue who she is and she loves that. They share a hot kiss and then they go their separate ways. Until the morning when he saves her from a swarm of paparazzi. River has no where to go. She invites herself to go to West Bend with Elias and thats where their relationship grows.

The book was seriously sweet and extremely steamy. Elias is one of my new favorite book boyfriends. He acts like a tough military man but then he goes and does super sweet things for River.. the whole picnic in the mountains! Just amazing. And to be honest I thought River would drive me nuts but I kind of loved her too. She did NOT act like a "star". She was very down to Earth and she was generally a funny girl.

I am most defiantly going to read on in the series. I am mad at myself for not picking this one up sooner!

5 Hot, Sexy, Sweet Stars

OMG, I just finished this book and LOVED it:) What a great start to what looks to be a very promising series and a series that i can't wait to get more of. Elias, oh my, Elias what a freaking HOTTIE!!!!!! What I loved about this book was the sexiness, the hot sex, the angst but not too much but just enough to keep the story "interesting".... What can I say except that I loved every aspect of this book! Gosh, did I love Elias, I mean this guy, he had such a sad past that my heart broke for him as well as his brothers which BTW can't WAIT for their stories. OK, so River, holy crap, this poor girl, she had such a sad past as well and I was so happy that these 2 found each other and were able to finally get much needed happiness in their lives!!!!!!

Congrats Sabrina Paige on a GREAT book and a Home-Run start to your new series:)

Enjoyed overall. Well developed protags. Great chemistry, dialogue, and smexy scenes between them. Nice blance between the romance and subplots. Major misunderstanding was a little lame and ending felt rushed. I really wish we could have seen the heroine deal with her family & ex. Not sure if she ever really did or if it was off scene.

This book started out strong, but faltered around the halfway mark. There were some serious issues that weren't well developed, and/or brushed over (wrapped up) too quickly. I read a lot of romance novels so I have to suspend belief quite often, this story however had too many unbelievable moments.

Those of you who have read the book will understand my subject line...I admit that the use of the f-word can add to a characters grit, toughness, or bada$$ness, but at a certain point it just gets tacky. In this case it's f*ing tacky. And the plot isn't much better.

Sex. Sex never changes.

First humans used it for the reproduction to preserve the mankind. Their descendants turned it into an entertainment as a mean of escapism. Different goals, same principles.

It made slaves out of ones, merchants of others. It corrupted the minds of saints, shoving them with images too rude to speak of. All focusing on the stranger they just met.

It spread illness, gave birth to addiction. It poured loads of money into pharmaceutical business. It poisoned the sky with a deadly smoke--a result of mass-produced rubbers.

An ex-marine, a movie star, a baseball player, an addict mother, an asshole--all fell victims to sex, drowned in the ocean of lechery and perversion.

It seeps into the pages of countless books, using the processed wood to gain new followers. It lurks within the songs to distort the worldview of those merely wishing to enjoy a kaleidoscope of sounds. It overruns the movies to nail into the heads of the innocent ones the notion of "what is right". It rules the world with the help of a double-digit number.

Generation after generation falling into the same perpetual trap. Manipulated by the feral instinct leading us all to doom.

They say sex never changes. People do through the knowledge they gain. And this knowledge has reached its end.

This was one of those books that you enjoy reading, but you just know it could have been freaking awesome if it just had “more”. It had elements to it that I just loved. Take Elias for instance. He was a dirty talking, wounded warrior alpha with an inner dialogue that cracked me up and made me go “awww” at the same time.
I wanted nothing more than to fuck her senseless, fill her to the hilt with my cock and feel her come around me. But I was trying to show some restraint. Not just because the last thing on earth I fucking needed right now was to get some girl knocked up. It’s just that there was something about her, something vulnerable, that made me feel protective and shit.

He definitely was broken, both in body and in spirit. He lost a leg in Afghanistan and was forcibly retired from the military. He was headed home, where he absolutely did not want to be since he came from a really messed up family who were the town pariah’s. He had a lot of bad things going on in his life, but he was trying to deal with it as best he could.
“Regret’s a waste of time,” I said. “Your path is your path, for better or for worse. It is what it is. You don’t know what’s going to happen in life. You’ve got right now and that’s it. Can’t change the past, can’t predict the future.

River is broken too. A movie star who, with camera’s in tow, walks in on her sister giving her fiancee a blow job, just hours before her wedding. So she does what most would do, she flees and ends up with Elias. She’s not real sure about Elias, but with limited options she goes for it.
I shouldn’t do this, I thought. It’s stupid. I don’t even know his name. It’s amazingly, mind-numbingly idiotic. He could be anything, this man. A fucking stalker. A serial killer.
And yet, as I sat back against the passenger seat, a feeling of calmness washed over me.

I would have loved to have seen more of River’s upbringing, instead of being told about it. Also, the suspense thing with Elias’ parent’s death’s seemed like a tease and wasn’t fully explored. I don’t like teases. Another thing that left me puzzled – What the heck was the deal with Jed, the sheriff? Obviously there is history that needed to be explained.

Things were just left too vague. I’m interested in the rest of the story so I’ll read the next one, but if it leaves me wanting more like this one did, I’ll probably bail.

Laurie’s Rating: 3 stars
