I picked up this Audible book, under my Kindle Unlimited membership, some time ago. It was in the "I'll get to it eventually" category, with no particular rush. I hadn't heard much about it and I didn't have any expectations. It was a nice surprise to find a funny, cute story with endearing characters.

May, the heroine, was a riot. With her pint-sized dog, Felix, in tow, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her constant misadventures and humorous antics kept me laughing all the way through this story.

When May mistakenly responds to some text messages, she inadvertently places herself in danger. She thinks that she's messaging her sister, but she isn't. Walking into a rough, biker bar looking for her sister, she gets caught in the midst of a shootout.

To her surprise, it's a burly biker that comes to her rescue. Not only does the unkempt man get her out of the bar, but he soon takes responsibility for her safety after the incident. In no time, the two are engaged in a playful, contentious banter.

It ends up that Ozzie was undercover, as part of a work assignment for his security firm. Once the beard is shaved off, he's transformed into the epitome of May's ideal male. Suddenly, she's stumbling over her words and tripping up at every turn. When May accepts a job with Ozzie's company, things get even more entertaining.

Overall, this was a great story. It was action-packed and full of humor. If you're looking for a lighter read, this is a great choice. The audiobook was well done. I didn't have any concerns related to the narration. I give this one 3 1\2 stars.

My friend Kelly is on a smexy times reading kick this last week. Something about her anniversary happening and not wanting to spend any money she makes do with the smut-o-rama..I'm sure her husband is smiling about right now.
She suggested I go ahead and get off my ass and read this one with her.

My dog Zoe found out there was some Chihuahua action going on in this book and her ears perked up.

The story starts out with May getting some text messages from what she thinks is her sister's new phone. Her sister is a single, stressed out mom so maybe wanting to meet her at a biker bar wasn't too far fetched. She picks up her trusty sidekick chihuahua Felix and off she goes. Once at the bar shots start flying in the air and a rough looking guy with a beard helps a girl out. I kept picturing the bearded guy like this...

Turns out bearded guy Ozzie ends up getting his cover blown thanks to May so he takes her back to his Batcave, where she finds out that he owns a security company and that the guy cleans up real well.

RAWR!!!!!!

He also has a dog. His is the size of a bus but it's love at first site.
For the dogs.

May is a wedding photographer who likes money so when they offer her a job with the security company making some mega dough taking a few surveillance photos she accepts.
This book is freaking hilarious. May "The Meatball" Wexler as she would like to be known (She actually gets called Bo Peep) is the perfect female character. She comes off as clueless but who cares? She is so much fun. She is not that female character that everyone keeps mentioning how "beautiful" she is every five freaking minutes either. I loved her.
I could be her friend. I have a taser! Tasering is fun. (I'm not spoiling!)

The smexy times in this book is more of a slow building burn that was hot as heck when it did happen. No insta-loving in site!
It got me in all kinds of places.

This makes the third Elle Casey book I've read and I've enjoyed every second of her writing. I'm now a fangirl.

My dog Maisy now wants some more doggie smexy times books being written. She is ready to be drawn in the story like a french girl.

I really hate to DNF an Elle Casey book because I have read several books by her and they have been hits. However, this one was sadly a full blown miss for me. In fact, by the halfway point, I was forcing myself to keep going and skimmed as far as I got reluctantly.

I loved the start of the story and the cover. I loved that both hero and heroine dogs were instrumental throughout because they were so very cute. The heroine’s sister was really likable character as well but the heroine was annoying as hell and the hero was dull and flat. The writing was going for funny but missed the mark 95 percent of the time on me.

”His body is beyond sculpted. It’s like a Mr. Potato Head workout body. Clip-on abs, clip-on pecs, clip-on triangle-shaped muscle thingies that go down the front of his pants.”

May runs into Ozzie while getting a wrong directed text and she finds herself in danger as well being offered a job with his security business. Their fall in love was totally lacking luster and even the dialogue wasn’t the author’s best work. The nonstop security talk was a TOTAL bore. While the heroine is twenty-nine years old and doesn’t act anything close to that. I would totally recommend many books by this author but continuing even as far as I got in this story was just painful.Sorry.

Wrong Number, Right Guy is book one in the Bourbon Street Boys series by Elle Casey. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, Montlake Publishing and Elle Casey.

I sadly have to inform all of my former book boyfriends to move over, there is a new book boyfriend in town, and his name is Ozzie. This book was perfection. It was hilariously funny, sexy, sweet, and just wonderful.

Oh to describe May (Bo Peep) Wexler. She is a photographer but to survive, she is forced to photograph weddings, and family portraits. Even with this, business comes in spurts, and right now is a definite dry spell. She lives alone with her tiny Chihuahua, Felix. To be inside May’s head was a crazy, crazy ride. She constantly struggles with self confidence but makes up for it with pure commitment to whatever she is attempting to do.

dog in purse:

On this particular night, she has been texting with her single Mom to three kids sister who is frazzled. A little later on, she receives what she thinks is another text from her sister saying that she is at a biker bar in the bad part of town in New Orleans. What would her sister be doing there with her three kids? So off May goes to rescue her sister with her little dog in her purse. She soon discovers, though, that her sister is not in fact, in the bar, and finds herself smack in the middle of a shoot out, only to be rescued by the hairiest man she has ever seen. The bad guys follow her so May ends up needing to stay the night at the hairy man’s place, only to find out that he is not really a hairy man at all but a very muscular, very handsome, very sexy man.

big dog little dog:

Meet Ozzie, head of the security firm, Bourbon Street Boys which he runs out of his home. Ozzie lives alone with his huge watchdog, Sahara, who instantly develops a relationship with May’s tiny dog. Ozzie is intimidating and runs his business with an iron fist so to speak. To say he was bowled over by the little tiny woman with the dog in her purse would be an understatement.

Little Bo Peep:

May earns the nick name Bo Peep due to her innocent appearance. They all soon learn that even though May has no experience with self defense, she has an uncanny ability to react under stress and defend herself. Once they also learn that she is a photographer, they decide to ask her to join their team. But she will have to train with them, learn self defense tactics, get in shape. Could she really do this for a living? Could she be a part of this would be family?

“It’s like all my life the light switch that is the real me has been turned off, and Ozzie somehow figured out how to turn it on. This is me, the real May Wexler.”

May and Ozzie have some definite chemistry. And once Ozzie relaxes around her, she realizes that the tough guy personality is not Ozzie at all. He is really just a big teddy bear. But he is her boss. Her lack of self confidence has her questioning his every move. But Ozzie is nothing if not patient. The way he gets her to relax was just perfection.

Play strip poker:

I loved every single page of this book. May was so much fun to get to know. And Ozzie, well, he had me from the beginning. I’m so excited to see what Elle Casey has in mind for the future of this series. You can rest assured that I will first in line waiting for the next book.

"Yeah. Right. Here, Mister Crazy Mountain Man Grizzly Bear Person, why don't you come on over to my house and murder me in my living room? That sounds like fun."

Wrong Number, Right Guy, the first book for The Bourbon Street Boys Series, was just okay for me. I love Elle Casey and I love her Shine Not Burn Series. So when I seen this book on Netgalley I was so excited to get it, but sadly I couldn't stand the heroine of the book, May. May drove me crazy and it took away from my enjoyment of the book a lot!

 photo ozzie and may_zpssplbe1gj.jpg

"Operation Ugly Beard?" I ask. Dev laughs and then stops immediately when Ozzie glares at him. "Harley," Ozzie says. "It's Harley, not ugly beard." I mumble under my breath as I pick up my sweaty towel. "Could've fooled me."

May was so immature she acted more like a teenage girl and not 29 year old woman. At times I felt like I was reading a book about a man awkwardly trying to date a high schooler She did some of the ditziest shit. She truly acted silly and teen like when it came to Ozzie, her job, Sex ect.... OMG she blushed at everything. Everything! I just couldn't stand her. Ozzie on the other hand I really liked. I liked his hard, sexy, gruff self. Hell he earned extra awesome points just for putting up with May because I would have washed my hands of her silly ass. I would have liked to see a little more of the hero, a little more of his personality. As far as other characters go in this book I really liked May's sister and I liked Dev. There was some funny parts in this book which helped and the plot was okay. I wish there would have been more romance. Over all an okay book. I will most likely read the next book in this series to see if it gets better.

"One more. Come on-you can do it. Push it!" "I already did one more!" I huff and puff as the weights dangle from my limp arms. Everything burns. Everything. Even my butt muscles are on fire. "You aren't tapped out. Come on-I see one more in your eyes. Lift." "What you see in my eyes is a death threat."

I really wanted to like this one, but it just was not working for me. The heroine was not the brightest crayon in the box, by far and the hero was 'meh' - May was annoyingly dense, and in no way seemed like a 29 year old woman... and Oz didn't have much personality. Unremarkable characters combined with a somewhat silly storyline, Wrong Number, Right Guy left me underwhelmed. I've enjoyed other work by this author, but unfortunately this one was a huge miss for me.

Everyone I follow on GR all shelved this as a DNF so OF COURSE that means I’m 5 Starring it . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Not even sorry. I loved this stinking book and I’m shouting it from the rooftops!!! This time I even strong-armed Shelby into buddy reading it and she liked it too – proving once and for all that we do indeed read most everything incorrectly.

It all begins with self-employed photographer May’s sister and her broke-ass phone. At her wit’s end with her three young kids and having a saboteur known as Autocorrect making things even worse . . . .

“I need a frign break. Taking the butt strings to the arcade.”

“Butt strings?”

“I meant to say breast sling. Effing autocorrect.”

“Argh! Not breast sling! I’m going to kill the dick who shit on my ass because it’s going all jello.”

“Shit storm! Epic shit storm of autocorrect madness! . . . Please just shit me cow.”

poor Jenny makes getting a smarter phone priority numero uno. Thus begins the biggest misunderstanding in the history of misunderstandings. May thinks some random text she receives is from Jenny asking for a lifeline to help her deal with her butt strings, I mean breast slings, I mean CHILDREN. What’s really happening is a covert op drug deal using code speak, but May doesn’t know that. Instead she thinks her sister is possibly drunk at a seedy bar with her kids in tow and is verbally assaulting her via telecommunications, so she does what any sister would do – sets off to the biker bar in order to give Jenny the boob punch she deserves. Obviously Jenny isn’t there, but Ozzie is.

“He looks like a Duck Dynasty nut ball prepper off the range for a good long while now, but he smells like a metrosexual about to go clubbing.”

Mmmmmm, Ozzie . . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, no on the boob punch – yes on getting saved by a burly mountain man.

May apparently was dropped on her head as a child because she doesn’t find the beard smex-a-riffic like I did. Whatever May, you are stupid. I mean just look at it . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

(Sidenote and Confession:

And also this:

Chicago commercial photographers

I mean seriously. Dear Bilzerian: When you are done being a manbearpigwhoreboy you should totally look me up. We were meant for each other.)

Anyway, long story even longer May might be in danger and is routed to The Most Interesting Man in the World Ozzie’s domicile – which also happens to be the security firm he owns. There May gets more than she bargained for. Things like a job offer to help take surveillance photos and a newly shorn Ozzie . . .

Chicago commercial photographers
(Shit, Bilzerian are you even serious right now? You can’t be good looking with and without the beard!)

May also discovers she has some sick fighting skills she never knew about . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

and that she might be just a weeeeee bit attracted to her new boss . . .

“To distract my overly busy brain, I practice casual pickup lines in my head as I wait for his answer:

You look hot in that shirt. Maybe you should take it off.

Do you have a girlfriend? Do you want one?

Sex, I want some. Rawr.”

Which of course means they eventually do some throwing down in the sack . . . and on the couch. And it was DELIGHTFUL! May was soooooooo normal . . .

“He leans back onto the couch again, bringing the bra up to his face. He closes his eyes as he inhales. ‘Smells like your skin.” His eyes open and he smiles. I almost laugh. ‘Creepy.’”

and also . . .

“What are you doing?!” I yell.

“I’m bringing you to bed to give you a spanking.”

“Ohhhh, a spanking. I’d like to see you try.” I left my taser in my purse in his bedroom. If he even thinks about spanking my butt I’m going to light him on fire.”

Chicago commercial photographers

And although there was only one sexytimes scene, it was totally hawt and . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

May’s tiny pup Felix even got a piece of the action and a girlfriend named Sahara . . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Like I said, this apparently was not a winner for everyone, but if you want a RomCom that is totally adorable with realistic, relatable characters and a female lead with a hilarious inner voice, this is the one for you. Elle Casey, I liked you with Shine Not Burn. I farkin’ HEART you now.

Wrong Number, Right Guy was something unexpected. I picked it on a lark, and I ended up with a good time on my hands.
Funny text mistakes between two sisters Jenny and May had me rolling from page one. For whatever reason, autocorrected text mistakes hit my funny bone, so the mood was set. However, May Wexler and her texting woes are about to get real.
Jenny has ventured out with her pack of kids to buy a new phone. A few hours later a text comes from a number May doesn’t recognize, but she assumes it’s from her sister's recent phone change. The message states that Jenny needs help immediately at Frankie’s Pub. May is stunned. Her sister, the mother of a horde of children, is calling from a biker bar in a rough part of town? This is out of character. Maybe Jenny has finally cracked. A worried May speeds toward the bar, though she can’t imagine how her responsible sibling has arrived at this juncture. May quickly discovers that the text was not from her sister and she is in a whole lot of trouble.
Cute dogs, bad guys, hot men and a ton of action with the Bourbon Street Boys made this quite an enjoyable ride. If you are looking for something light, this could be the book for you!

Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I read a book that actually made me laugh out loud? Me neither, but I know it’s been a looooong time.

This is a book that never in a million years would’ve popped up on my radar without the prodding of my mom. She found this book will prowling the Kindle Unlimited store, and called me in near tears, she was laughing so hard. She begged me to read it. I decided to at least read the first chapter, because I could use a laugh. One nearly sleepless night later, I finished the book. It was absolutely fantastic.

I’m not a big romance reader, unless the author is Nora Roberts. She’s my comfort read, and I read her stuff anytime I feel sad or sick, and anytime she publishes something new. Every once in a while I get in the mood for something sweet and uplifting, so I’ll read some kind of Christian romance, but just regular romance not written by Nora is not something I usually pick up. I will now have to make an exception for Elle Casey, because this woman is seriously funny.

This was the story of an average, single, twenty-something woman. She’s a wedding photographer who lives alone with her little half-Chihuahua, Felix. When she gets a text from an unknown number that she assumes belongs to her sister, her life spirals out of control quickly. May, our protagonist, makes the most of her situation and struggles to adapt and become one of the Bourbon Street Boys, an elite security company, while trying not to fall for Ozzie, her super-hot new boss. Hilarity ensues.

I’m not the biggest fan of first-person narration, but nothing else would’ve worked here. You need to be inside May’s head, because her thoughts are laugh-out-loud funny. The story would’ve have been nearly as charming if not told from her perspective. The other characters are interested and endearing, even when they’re being all prickly and hostile toward the new girl. The rest of the series follows the other members of this crew, and you can bet your britches that I’ll be binge-reading the rest. And I never binge read. But I’m making an exception here.

Was there sex, you might be asking as you gaze at the cover. You betcha, there was. But it wasn’t slathered all through the book. And the buildup we witness within the main character was seriously the best part. She’s so real and relatable, and I’m pretty sure every woman fighting against their attraction to a person has shared some of her feelings. But when the sex does occur, it’s hot. Hilariously hot. Seriously, even the sex scenes were filled with humor. What’s not to love about that?

As I said, I would’ve never picked up this book on my own. I would’ve looked at the cover and glanced right over it, looking for the next philosophical fantasy to delve into. And I would’ve been missing out. Every diet needs variety, and it turns out that my literary diet was severely lacking in humor. So, thanks Mama, for expanding my literary horizons, even if that expansion is a little less than literary. Five stars well earned, Elle Casey. Keep ‘em coming.

description

This book had all the possible elements to ensure I’ll love it but, sadly, this was not case.
I had a really hard time caring about the characters and the book was just lacking of, I don’t know, heart. The writing-style was simple, not bad, just simple and I thought it was a good thing for the book but it didn’t help my liking the MCs and I personally found the lack of character description annoying.

I mean, we read the book through the female MC’s eyes and she’s not very descripting at all. I don’t even know her.

I don’t know what I was expecting, to be honest. The book’s very fast paced and the plot is kinda cool but the author didn’t use it that much. But that doesn’t mean she was focused on the romance, no. I don’t care about the romance because there wasn’t any.

It went like this:

• Girl gets text message.
• Girl thinks it’s from her sister.
• Girl goes in hopes to meet her sister.
• Girl does not find her sister.
• Girl meets guy.
• Guy is somewhat rude to her.
• Shit goes down and now Girl is a target.
• Girl has little personality.
• Girl has the personality of a horny 13 years old girl.
• Girl and Guy lust over each other.
• Girl only has sex on her mind.
• Guy is broody.
• Girl and Guy get together.
• 3 days after.
• Girl runs away.
• Girl is attacked by bad guy.
• Girl kicks bad guy’s ass (cool).
• Girl and Guy are hopelessly in love.

description

May, the Girl, is 29 years old but she acts like a freaking 12 years old who’s never seen a guy before. It was both exhausting and annoying. She said she had some trust issues because of her father and male population in general but that was just a lame excuse so she could be captured by bad guy.

I just, this book lacked of substance. I liked the training parts but they weren’t enough for me to like the book as a whole.

The story was way too predictable and I couldn’t sympathize with anyone.
I honestly can’t even remember what I just read. But I feel the main problem was the boring narrator. She made everything dull. Even the fight scenes and, while there were some funny parts, they weren’t enough to guarantee me a nice time.

Could multiple POVs save the story for me? I don’t know.

There wasn’t enough romance, there wasn’t enough fighting, there wasn’t enough inner struggling, there wasn’t enough from anything so that’s the biggest fail of this book.

1 - None of this makes a single bit of sense. Star.

DNF @ 38%

Elle Casey is one of my top finds of 2015 after reading the Shine Not Burn series a couple of months ago. I had absolutely no hesitation in grabbing Wrong Number, Right Guy from Netgalley, and no doubt I would love the bones of it like I did with the other books.

Not so much sadly, it started out great, I was in fits of giggles with the predictive texting and I though I was onto another winner from the author. But although it is well written and in the authors unique style I find myself @ 38% wondering what is going on, the story hasn't really moved, and to be honest, May's internal monologue has gotten so long and mainly irrelevant I have started to skim, add to it that whereas the previous heroines in the books I have read by Elle, have been likeable and endearing with their quirky personalities and dumb luck, May has just become annoying and a pretty immature in her thinking.

We still no absolutely nothing about Ozzie, and the rest of the Bourbon Street Security team are just names... and due to all the internal monologue from May, the chemistry between the two of them is absolutely non-existent. Felix the dog has had more page time than this couple together.

This won't stop me from reading more from Elle Casey in future, I just think this one lost it's way a bit with an overly talkative Heroine, who unfortunately didn't really have much of interest to say.

Well now, it seems like miracles are possible.
Normally, I hate idiots. I DNF books after the first 10 pages if I just smell a character that is annoying the hell out of me. So, I have to hand it to you Casey, you surprised me! Think it's the first time that I actually liked an idiot! No clue what you did or how you did it, but you made me curious enough to read this book and even liking it!

So why only 3 stars?
Well, the ending was cut short. I finished this book and all I could think about was where are the rest of the pages...
Too bad though, it had potential! A lot of potential!

2.5 stars.

Not the worst, but I've definitely read better.

So our heroine calls the hero for the very first time:

A gruff voice answers. “This better be good,” it says.
“Are you the guy with the horrible beard?” I ask, my voice breathless and way too high.
“Come again?”
“You’re the Bourbon Street guy, right? Well, I’m the bimbo with the dog from the bar, who’s not a bimbo by the way. I need your help. Again.”

WTF IS THIS SHIT? And why am I enjoying it so much?

After reading several books from Elle Casey, I was excited to read her Bourbon Street Boys series. Wrong Number, Right Guy is the first book of the series.

May Wexler is a freelance photographer. She's close to her sister, Jen, and thinks nothing of it when she receives a text from an unknown number. She just assumes it's her sister who was getting a new phone. The text asks her to come to a bar in downtown New Orleans, so off May goes. It turns out that the text was from a wrong number, but May didn't know that before she arrived at a seedy biker bar where she finds herself in the middle of a shootout. Luckily she's rescued by a Duck Dynasty beard looking guy.

Ozzie is the boss of the Bourbon Street Boys (BSB) Security Specialist group. After the shootout, May ends up hiding out at Ozzie's warehouse to be on the safe side. May meets the rest of the BSB team. Once they find out she's a photographer, they soon offer her a job hoping that she will be able to help with the surveillance work.

The dogs were adorable. Sahara was Ozzie's big dog that was supposed to be a guard dog, but was more of a teddy bear. Felix was May's tiny purse dog. When these two met it was love at first sight. These two had me cracking up. Sahara was burping and farting all of the time, but I still loved her and so did Felix. As Ozzie said, "It's impossible to stay cool when she does that."

After May begins to work for BSB Security and spends more time with Ozzie she realizes that his gruff first impression not right. Like Sahara, Ozzie is more bark than bite. He even shaves his horrible beard for her. May begins to lust after him and soon Ozzie is returning the same lustful feelings. The question is can they work together and have a relationship?

I was hopeful that I would love this book, but it fell a bit flat for me. I kept waiting for more of a love connection between these two. It seemed to take forever for them to act on their feelings. This book seemed to concentrate more on May working with Ozzie and his group instead of the love connection. I wanted more love. The dogs stole the show for me. I'm glad I listened to the audiobook. It felt like it would have taken longer to read than listen to. I enjoyed this book enough to give this series another chance and read, or maybe listen to, the next book in the series, to see if it gets better for me.

Yes. Thank you, Jack-my-love. This explains the book in one piece.

I'm not new to Elle Casey's writing. I enjoyed her LOVE IN NEW YORK series and when I saw that Shelby and Kelly gave this one 5 stars each, I decided to abandon the books I was reading and read this little hottie instead.

Muscles, muscles, hard butts and pecs,

Why must I keep my libido in check?

Elle Casey is a writer who knows how to create a crazy heroine and a crazy scene. I've got a lot of laugh out loud moments in this book and the scene between Ozzie and May?

description

But I've got mixed feelings when it comes to this book. I love the first 60% of the book and I enjoyed it very much. But after a certain scene in the book, I was suddenly annoyed by the heroine. I was already in the later part of the book and though I expect some twists and turns, I never thought that I would change my views about the heroine. The things that I used to like about her suddenly irritated me and that caused the deduction of one star in my rating.

So don't let this review affect your opinion of the book.

****Full Review****

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

May's divorced sister has been a little on edge lately and when she receives a text from a number she doesn't recognize asking for reinforcements, May figures her sister has finally gotten a new phone. The texts get increasingly stranger but May just worries that her sister's kids have finally sent her over the edge, so she hurries to rescue her from a biker bar. What happens instead is May being pushed out the back door of the bar by a heavily bearded burly guy while being shot at. Turns out the texts weren't from her sister but a case of wrong number and the bearded burly guy that rescued her was undercover, a cover she has just blown. Bearded burly guy a.k.a. Ozzie is the owner of Bourbon Street Boys Security and not only feels May is in danger but wants to offer her a job in his company. May is new to the whole guns and danger but being drawn to Ozzie has her making the effort. Fate and destiny are crazy sisters but they may have just had the right idea when they threw May and Ozzie together.

The beginning of Wrong Number, Right Guy started off pretty rough, I felt very thrust into the story. The ball starts rolling right away but I didn't have a base for who May was and as she is the leader of the show, the story felt off kilter. The storyline of May receiving texts and thinking they are from her sister works, unless you think too much about it. There were plenty of times where May should have had a "wait a minute" moment and questioned her actions. It was also murky if May was texting with Ozzie, shouldn't he have realized something was wrong? He never tells her it was him texting her and that her sister was never in the bar, which May goes on thinking for too long. It was a shaky beginning for rationalizing our leads together and unfortunately, the shaky feeling persisted throughout the book.

May was supposed to be in her late twenties but she was an extremely immature and naïve character, she had many TSTL (too stupid to live) moments. The story is all in first person from May's point of view and while her inner dialogue was supposed to come off funny and quirky, it missed the mark for me and came off hokey and sophomoric. Due to the first person aspect of this, Ozzie's character really suffered; I never felt I knew him. I'm not even sure I could label him the typical alpha male cardboard cut-out, he never has enough dialogue or shown emotions to even pull this off, I hate to say it but he was more of an alpha male wood block. He wears tight t-shirts, boots, and someone says he was in the military and he seems to like May (in a very maybe, sort of, kind of way) and that is my only impression of him.

May and Ozzie didn’t have a lot of screen time together, I think they didn’t even spend more than twenty minutes together, until the last 70% of the book. The story is filled with May freaking out over working for the Bourbon Boys and interacting with all the people who work for the company. The characters who make up the Bourbon Boys (which by the way, there is a woman who works there too so why it has to have Boys in the title, I'm not sure) seem interesting enough but the author doesn't cover any new ground in romantic suspense storylines. In fact, the storyline seemed to go in circles, May's in danger can't stay at her home, no wait, she can go home if she has a security system, no wait, even with a security system she can't stay home. The suspense plot left a lot to be desired and unfortunately, the romance plot followed suit. May acts like a fifteen year old who has the hots for Ozzie and can't wait to sleep with him but then in a way that didn't fit with her character, she doesn't. (In real life I fully support a women's right to say no or change her mind at any moment, no matter what. I'm discussing a character, the way the author wrote her, and how her personality characteristics/thoughts didn't jive together) The lead up to their first bedroom scene almost felt like May was forcing herself to sleep with Ozzie. Ozzie for his part was calm, cool, and collected but almost treated May in a condescending way with his antics to make her more comfortable so he could get in her pants. His character felt off kilter too in that he was very relaxed and treated May with kid gloves in regards to getting her to relax enough to have sex with him but suddenly he goes all Dom on her and ordering her around; it did not feel natural and quite frankly I almost laughed a couple times at the "sexy" lines.

Wrong Number, Right Guy is your basic romantic suspense muscle guys in security company work storyline book. However, I felt it missed the mark on the suspense and the romance. The concept and idea were there but regrettably, the execution wasn't.

Well, I liked Ozzie...? Does that count? I do have a few problems with this story and I think they attribute to why I just couldn't get into it.

May was suppose to be a 29 year old freelance photographer, but I got no sense of any of this other than it being mentioned that she takes pictures. Nothing about what she does, her equipment, her business or passion, nothing. As for the maturity part, there were times I could've confused May with a sixteen year old having a schoolyard crush. As the book continued, she became more ditzy and it became more painful to read. This book is entirely the heroine's POV, so you don't even get an escape.

The storyline included working for Bourbon Boys Security, so it makes sense that the storyline followed the business. What really confuses me though is that after finishing, I can't look back and pinpoint what I actually read. It seems like a lot of filler with not real structure. All we saw was May go through two or three training sessions and beat the crap out of her coworkers (which was actually awesome).

I enjoyed Ozzie, but didn't get nearly enough of him. I feel like the romance was t nearly as developed as it could've been to make this aspect more believable. And by the end, all of a sudden everyone loves each other after somewhere between three days and a week together - the timelines aren't consistent.

I really, really wanted to like this book. I've had it on my shelf for about a year and keep staring at it, so surprised even myself this past weekend when I picked it up. Sad to say that this one just didn't really do it for me.

Great potential, but lack of the great hero. I have a hard time rating this book. Just as I love do bookshelves tagging, here I do not know what to choose. I'm confused, so I decided not to rating it at all.

The idea for the book was very refreshing. You see, it starts insanely. I do not know if it was a joke or what. I was ready that she wakes up from a crazy dream at any time. I could not believe it was actually happening, and foolishness heroine. But after some time it was even funny and you can even get caught up in this ridiculous situation. I imagined Legally Blonde with her Chihuahua! And yes, this book has the most adorable scenes with dogs ever! Felix and Sahara, I love you dogs. It was charming.

“Do not pee in my bag, Felix. I’m not kidding this time.”

So the book has some good scenes and elements. The heroine is funny (although sometimes until the irritation, but I burst out laughing more than once). She was sometimes immature and very goofy. She can so fire up herself that it can be amusing or annoying. But she also could be feisty.

“So , what up, dogs?” I giggle at myself. Lame humor is my specialty. “Have a fun day today smelling each other’s butts and eating the same meal you eat every day?”

Secondary characters very positive. The potential for developing huge. But everything went wrong on the hero. Missing connection with the main character. For me he is enigma, I do not know nothing about him after this book. It seems to me that its too little scenes with him, during which they would talk to each other. Because in chemistry I may can believe, but there are no big emotions. It's a pity because the hero seemed to have head on his shoulders, so could introduce some rational thinking into this crazy head of heroine. And everything would be equalized.

“Hey! You! You can’t just wine me and dine me and not . . . and not . . .” Oh my god! I almost said “sixty-nine me”! Ack! Alert, alert! Send the fire engines! I’m on fire!

Unfortunately also scenes involving work as a private company protection were pretty boring. Not really big fan of ending, a bit like unfinished book. But I think it has potential, and I love the scenes with dogs, and I really laughed a lot, so I guess that I would give the second part chance if it come out.

¡Maravillosa!

So this turned up in my feeds a while ago and I added it to my TBR list as it was getting some solid star ratings and the blurb sounded interesting but sadly it slowly slipped down the pile and got over looked. Until I saw the blurb for the second one and figured I had to read it. So I immediately one clicked this and started it this morning.

I thought I knew was I was in for. I figured it was going to be an action packed suspense novel that was all about the shooting and trying to figure out who the bad guy was and stop him from trying to kill the heroine. So when I read the first page and started pissing myself laughing I thought maybe I had opened the wrong book. But no.

And from that first chapter I was so hooked. I couldn’t stop laughing long enough to try put it down and then I realised I was almost finished and shit started to get real so of course I had to finish the book to see how it was all going to play out.

This was really cute, really funny, but was definitely not my favorite of the few Casey books I've read. I loved Oz, and I loved the team dynamic, but I never really jumped on the May train. I found her to be kind of annoying, although, she did have her moments.

I laughed quite a few times, I love funny books, and Casey is most certainly good for them. I just thought it was really rushed, and I felt it was really missing some key components for me to want to give it higher than 3 stars.

I would consider reading on in the series, maybe. We will have to see.

The first half is entertaining... The second half just doesn't work for me... And the end is equivalent to being dunked in 30-yr old cheese sauce for 2.0 seconds and sent on your merry way.

First Half

Listen, this isn't a serious book. It's kinda like a SNL skit... Yeah, the byline may be a serious topic (ie the president discussing nuclear Iran,) but the premise is jest.

So, if you're looking for a serious suspense, romance... Keep looking. If you're looking for a light, fly by the eyerolls type of comedy, the first half of this book is good for some nonsense laughs.

The male MC doesn't play so large a role here. He could honestly be anybody. I mean the dogs have a larger role than he does, okay.

The female MC, May, makes the first half of the book. May reminds me of "Legally Blonde." She's funny, clearly a little whackAdoodle, and a bag of jolly ranchers on the side, but yet isn't typically a total dumbass TSTL type character.

May:

"Hey! You! You can't just wine me and dine me and not..... And not..." Oh my god! I almost said "sixty-nine me"! Ack! Alert, alert! Send the fire engines! I'm on fire!

Her personality is fun, quirky, & out there and over the top. Sometimes it's a little much in the same way Ace Ventura was, but it's overall funny and entertaining. I works... Well, until it doesn't:/

Btw: The dog!!! Gotta love the fur baby inclusions:)

Second Half

description

Something goes amiss here and it just sinks the fun boat. It all just goes from quirky and funny to annoying and asinine.

description

Like the scenes with Toni were weird and I just didn't get it at all. The extended workout scenes...just kinda stupid dribble. The back and forth monologues about wanting / not wanting to have sex & being shy because she's sooooo bad at sex / nearly throwing her self at him were awkward. Calling the sister all the time. Cards. The fighting scenes where she kicks the ass trained "professionals" multiple times. Ehh, just not feeling none of it!

The storyline felt discombobulated, forced, and shallow, almost like the author just didn't know where the fuck to take her story so she just starts throwing random shit at the fan to see what sticks to the walls.

Part of the problem may also be that I feel they're constantly talking in riddles or talking in circles because half the time I have no fucking clue what the hell they're trying to get at. It's nonsense, really!

The ONE sex scene was weird. I mean neither of them really acted like they wanted to do it. Then they did act like it. Then they paused and acted like they didn't. Then suddenly they're getting it on. Ehh.. Just not good! EVEN more awkward was the morning after. Eek!

Then The End

Wtf? Suddenly the bad guy just appears, but he's the dumbest fuck ever, like a cartoon bad guy with a hard on:/ And, she beats the hell out of him, despite him having a gun and being a "gangster" "bad guy." Okay~

Wham, we go from complete lust with absolute unsure to "I love you" in like the span of five minutes... Then the shit just ends.

Bottom Line

This author got lost on her road to quirky and took a hard left down a road that led NOWHERE! While I got several laughs at first, I ultimately felt like I wasted my time on a non-story featuring one character that's like a styrofoam fill in and another that goes from funny to doing all that girlie-girl shit that even other girls hate.

Actual rating: 2.5/5 stars

To be honest, I think I don't get the point of this entire story most of the time while reading it. I mean, I was eager to find out WHY WAS MAY(the female mc) FOLLOWED or TEXTED by a wrong number or TURNED OUT TO BE THE TARGET after that very first night in the bikers' club? all this time; however, not until I flipped through the book was at about 97% of the book did I finally know the truth. To my disappointment, the truth wasn't even fascinating or creative enough.

As for the relationship between May and Ozzie, I'll simply put it as a kind of insta-love. They didn't know each other well enough to be a couple, in my opinion, and what's worse, they jumped to enjoying a "massive sex" above all. So this sort of development wasn't what I was looking for and I definitely didn't like it.

I hate to say this, but I really don't like the author's writing style. Actually, I've had a bad impression on this book since I read the first page---there were too many foul words---I just couldn't stand ALL of them. Some dirty words are totally fine with me, because you know, sometimes the characters need to express themselves emotionally. And that's understandable. But if those words appear too often in a story, then I think I'll just pass. Seriously, I don't want to stack a bunch of unhealthy vocabularies in my brain, particularly when I'm still a student! Moreover, I think the author could do better in describing some action-packed parts. She seemed to easily cover those actions, fighting moments, or rescuing sections and quickly focused on all the other R rating scenes. I just wished there were more exciting twists in this book.

In case you're wondering, since there are so many dislikes in this story for me, how come I give it 2.5 stars? Here are the reasons to read this book: First of all, I did enjoy the interaction among the other teammates, particularly Toni, Dev, and Lucky. They were funny, adorable, and I loved their characteristics even more than May. Ozzie was a good guy, I have to admit, and frankly, his role in the book was not bad, EXCEPT the romance. Therefore, I feel like giving some credit for those relatively impressive supporting characters. :>

Sinceramente me encantó.

Però l'ho trovato in generale molto carino e ironico.
La protagonista è uno spasso!

http://www.leggereromanticamente.com/...

Approvato all'istante!

ARC requested through Netgalley, and kindly provided by Amazon Publishing in exchange for a honest review.

I’ve read some mixed reviews of this book but I really enjoyed it. I found the inner workings of May’s mind to be hilarious, the unbelievable situations she found herself in ridiculously awesome and Ozzie a mixture of aloof sweetness and holy hotness.

I loved the blend of danger, humour and romance. More than that, May’s inner dialogue kept the story light, even when seriousness was in play.

Her interactions with Dev were the best! I loved how she kept taking him by surprise while he was training her.

“What happened, man?" Thibault asks him.

"She tricked me."

My jaw drops open. "Tricked you? I did no such thing." I point my stick at him. "He just jumped right into the training! No wax on, wax off, nothing--just whack, whack, whack! Block, evade, defend . . ."

"Deflect, not defend," Dev says.”

I loved how she kept proving everyone wrong in their perceptions of her. Despite her often immature thoughts, May really held her own and proved herself time and time again.

“Oh, a little bird told me there might have been some hog-tying going on this morning during the data-mining session."

I feel sick to my stomach. "What? Who told you that?"

He snickers. "Not Toni, I'll tell you that much.”

My only complaint, if I had to give one, was that it ended too quickly. The ending felt a bit rushed and I would have liked to have read more about the aftermath. But hopefully this book will spill into another story and continue where this one left off… I’d love to see Jennifer get a story! Perhaps with one of the Bourbon Street Boys?
