Stealing Moirra's Heart

Rate this book
Stealing Moirra’s Heart was originally published in November, 2014 as part of the Guardians of Crihde – Highland Winds collection.
Thrice widowed Moirra Dundotter needs a husband. With a reputation for losing husbands, the men of Glenkirby are not exactly lining up. Just as she is ready to give up, Moirra happens upon a very handsome man--locked in the village pillory.

Desperate to be free of the pillory, the stranger reluctantly agrees to handfast with Moirra, but refuses to tell her his real name -- or much else about his past. He’ll stay only long enough to help her harvest crops in the fall. Two months. And not one day longer.

Fate oft has far different plans.

Suzan Tisdale

USA Today Bestselling Author, storyteller and cheeky wench, SUZAN TISDALE lives in the Midwest with her verra handsome carpenter husband. All but one of her children have left the nest. Her pets consist of dust bunnies and a dozen poodle-sized, backyard-dwelling groundhogs – all of which run as free and unrestrained as the voices in her head. And she doesn’t own a single pair of yoga pants, much to the shock and horror of her fellow authors. She prefers to write in her pajamas.
Suzan writes Scottish historical romance/fiction, with honorable and perfectly imperfect heroes and strong, feisty heroines. And bad guys she kills off in delightfully wicked ways.
She published her first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, in December, 2011, as a gift for her mother. That one book started a journey which has led to more than twenty published titles. To date, she has sold more than 750,000 copies of her books around the world. They have been translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish.
You will find her books in digital, paperback, and audiobook formats.

I didn’t love this book but I didn’t hate it either! It was a quick, relatively fun read and although it didn’t offer all that much substance, it can’t be faulted for that because it is quite short. I think it would have fared a bit better if it had been a bit longer, the story just felt rushed and I would have liked to know more.

Fast-moving, pleasant little story. There were several plots going on which kept things interesting. The main plot concerned the budding relationship between Moirra and "John." Moirra who had 3 husbands die or disappear on her, needed a new husband to help her bring in the crops. Unfortunately for her, men were scared of her because of her first 3 husbands death/disappearance, except for 1 creepy guy that she had no interest in. So she spread out her look to nearby towns and found "John" who was being punished in a pillory for a month after being falsely arrested for stealing. He agreed to marry her in exchange for her paying his fine so he could be released from pillory duty. (Technically they were hand-fasted, I'm not sure what the difference is, the assumption is that a hand-fasting was a temporary marriage.) "John" has an expensive horse (unanswered was why he wouldn't have sold his horse to pay his fine in order to be released from the pillory, or why the stable master was willing to take care of his horse for a month with no guaranteed of ever being paid.) Moirra has 4 daughters, the youngest one immediately takes to "John", the older one immediately hates "John", as she hates all men. While neither "John" nor Moirra had intended their hand-fasting to last over a few months, they quickly become attracted to each other. Side stories involve learning why the oldest daughter hates men, hints at what might have happened to Moirra's 3rd husband who disappeared, threats from the disreputable sheriff and his deputies, the creepy would-be suitor of Moirra, "John's" real identity which he refuses to divulge to Moirra, and the youngest daughter's mysterious pet dog which no one has seen, which "John" and Moirra suspect could actually be a wolf. The author does a great job in developing the various characters and delving into the psychology behind their reactions. The book ties up all the loose ends nicely, while at the same time setting the scenario for the 2nd book in the series.

4.5/5.0

The only thing lacking is length! It is such a wonderful story that wraps the reader up and sweeps one into Moirra’s world that having to wait for the next installment to continue is just plain infuriating.

Must read

I must admit I really was not to interested in reading this book I was reading another series by Sandy Raven, when I kept going in to read the Historical jewels contest. Some where along the line I recieved a newsletter showing the ad about the 2nd book Moirras heart I liked what the author wrote down and so it had me curios. I purchased the 2nd book and it said I needed to read the first book to understand what was going on in the 2nd book. So I purchased the first book and I am so glad I did. I loved the story line, the unpredictability of it and Alysander and Moirra. Orabilis is my favorite character. A must read to find out who she is.

This story kept me in laughter! I fell in love with Moirra's daughters and hope to see more of them in the future. Moirra and John are both wanting and needing something in life they both feel is out of reach.... unattainable. They are both carrying secrets and are learning that finding trust, when it seems for all the world a fairytale, takes time and with that trust comes a love that is binding. Oh, Suzan.... you killed me with that last sentence! :)

This is an amazing book!

I just wonder how many of your readers were screaming at the end!!! I know I was! I have purchased the next book already..before I even started the first book..and I guess it's a good thing that I did! I do not like reading a book that ends in the middle..I just hope that the next book doesn't do the same... :(

A Sweet Short Story

You'll want to have the sequel to read immediately. Love all the characters. A real page-Turner. One
explicit sex scene but done not vulgar or erotic -- just very passionate. An engaging read. You'll want to read all Suzan Tisdale's books. She is a GREAT author.

Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In this story originally in The Scrolls of Cridhe, Highland Winds, Volume one is about a woman Moirra with Four daughter looks for a temporary husband to help with her small farm until the harvest and then he is free to leave. So in other words in a marriage in name only although Morirra who has had several husbands already is no maid and doesn't seem To object to the idea of sharing a blanket with this handsome strange whom she call John Pilory since he won't share his true name. after all that is where she met. She also has secrets and does not know about that John Pilory odes not know.

John Pilory is running away from his past well to be honest he was kicked out puf his clan by his own Father calling him a whoreson and drunk. Which was true but then a tragedy on the family changes John forever as he is not longer the whoreson, drunk his family thinks. Yet for being at the wrong p
'lace at the wrong time he is set up by thr true the true thieves and has been spending the last four day days in the Pilory to say his mood is not good is understatement. Smelling and having rotten vegetables thrown at at you is not a pleasant experience to John. When beautiful Moirra makes him an offer he just can't refuse as first raising suspicions like he is being set upon by someone's idea of a joke.
Moira worries her daughters will gets too attached to John and started to love just when it is is time for him to leave. Or is is Moirra's own heart she needs to protects and heart broke when it is time for him to leave. John seems to be able to get alone with all of Moirra's daughters excepts eldest .

What a wonderful, fast paced, mysterious and adventurous novella I can't wait to read part two of this series and really find out how things turn out for this unlikely couple. As definitely not looking too good for Morirra! I really felt for this couple as they both have not had an easy path in life yet both have a bright outlook even when thing looked really grave and it was interesting to see how they both start to blossom as they get to know each other yet they both have pasts and secrets that neither want to discuss.

I found it interesting because under normal circumstances they would never have met as John brought up in wealth and Moirra just a little above poverty. I actually found Moirra teaching John life's lessons. Yet what happens after the harvest do they go there separate ways or do they decide to get a chance and open their hearts and take a chance on that thing called love. Something neither one is that familiar with.

Another sensational book by Suzan Tisdale you won't want to miss this one!

Stealing Moirra's ❤

Alysander McCullum was a rogue, a fake and a drunk who thought that it was his fault his brother had been stabbed and killed in a tavern over a barmaid. Moirra was thrice widowed and picked Alysander to be number four, at least until the crops were harvested. Passion, love and her four daughters changed all that to give them a chance for lasting love. In to book two. SAVING MOIRRA's ❤.

It would've been better if this short novel was published together with the second part which starts immediately after this one ends. Get both at the same time or you'll be nagged by some incompletely resolved plot points.

I enjoyed this story, at times it was really fun, although I'd have preferred if the everyday harmony and happiness within the family was toned down a little, as it felt too good to be true.

Delightfully charming...

‘Stealing Miorra’s Heart,’ is the first of this two book saga. The storyline was incredibly witty and the characters were wonderfully written. Moirra and her four daughters, were fiercely loyal, stubborn, blunt, and delightfully charming. They are bound to steal any mans heart.
