Honestly, I don't how I miss this book or let alone this series, but they been sitting on my Kindle forever

ღ Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. It’s really hard to put down one of Jessica Gadziala books & not read it from cover to cover!
I recently chatted with a GR friend about Jessica Gadziala’s books & found out about this link (https://jessicagadziala.com/reading-o...) ( Navesink Bank Universe)

That’s when I found out how many books I was missing out on & few of these books that I wanted to read to get more about the person back story, I was floored

So my mission is to read all those in between reads that I’ve missed out on! Then catch up on my

He was her first boyfriend, barely 18 years old -he was older & much more sophisticated than she was. Of course, he was sweet & He showered her with gifts & compliments. And within a few months, he asked her to move in with him. In less than 6 months she 1st got just small glimpse of who he truly was. But like any abuser he blames her for his error in judgement. Like most victim, she believes him…

Before she knew He isolated her from what few friends she had. & also, her family. He had her quit her job & drop out of college. then he knew that he had full control of her… or so he thought he did !

She been on the run from this psychopath so long I don’t know if she remembers how long anymore. it been either 4 or 5 years now. All she knows is it’s time to stop running.

In walks in Xander Rhodes private investigator to save the day & To say that Ellie is hiding things from Xander is understatement!

I’m not sure what’s up Next up for me is Dark Secrets, & another Mystery for me Faith or Dissent with Isaiah & his demons

---------------------Enjoy ------------------------

➦📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review 💕 Also I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading this book!

Dark Mysteries released before I became a stalker of Jessica Gadziala and I want to kick myself for not reading it sooner. Xander was an amazing hero and I just loved him with Ellie. I loved the suspense of their story and how it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. All of the secrets throughout the book kept me enthralled with it and I liked that I couldn't figure all of them out until the end.

Ellie and Xander had some amazing chemistry and even though it was a little insta-lovey I never doubted that they cared for each other. The story started with a bang and never lost it's momentum, keeping me intrigued during every page. I will always recommend Jessica Gadziala to people and now I will also be recommending this book.

This "Dark Series" has been out for awhile now, and I decided to give it a try since I love Jessica Gadziala's other stories. It didn't disappoint me in the least. I guess I am still not done reading all of her books yet...LOL! I haven't had a lot of time for reviews lately, so I am going to keep this short and just say that I enjoyed it very much...!

My tour of Jessica Gadziala books continues...

-- Loved Xander
-- Loved Ellie (Why didn't she change her name though??)
-- I want to read more about K, Gabe, and Vin.
-- I wish the story had been a little more developed.
-- I also felt like the romance was a bit weak.
-- I also wasn't a huge fan of the last part of the book. I would have preferred for the heroine not to have had to go through a month of torture AGAIN. Seemed a bit like overkill to me.
-- Not my favorite of hers, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Xander is a private investigator. When a girl turns up at his office/apartment messed up he just had to help her. Ellie had been on the run for year. Tryin to get away from the hell she once lived in. But things were starting to catch up with her. So she needed to get help. Ellie had heard great things about Xander and knew he would be right for the job. Ellie didn't have anywhere to go she had to stay with Xander at his place. He didn't really care there was something about her that made him want to protect her. She wasn't his type at al but she was very beautiful. After spending time together while he was working stuff out they got closer. But she couldnt get close to anyone cause she would alway be on the run cause he would alway find her.

Xander is a really hard ass and this makes him great at his job. Everyone knew how good he was at his job. He was known by everyone around the area he would help anyone. Xander didn't do relationships but there was something about Ellie. He couldnt get out of his head. Like I said she wasn't his type but she need him and he made her feel special. Ellie hadn't felt that way in a long time.

Ellie is a sweet girl she has been through so much. Her ex is a totally arsehole and made her life hell. She had no choice she had to get away and she would do anything she had to do. Xander was the only person that could help her at this time. After hearing how good he was she knew he was the man she needed. I just don't think she knew how hot Xander would be. Xander wasnt bald or fat like she expected the PI to be. No he was big, strong and very sexy. This made it hard for her to keep her head out of the gutted. It had been a very long time since she had thought like she did around him. The only thing is she couldn't get close to anyone cause they alway get hurt.

Like al the books from this author. I really enjoyed it. I was dyin to know how things were going to go for Ellie. She is a brilliant character and had gone through hell. My heart broke for her. Xander is so good it was great seeing how he was with Ellie. The way she got under his skin was great. They were just meant to be.

I really enjoyed this story. Once it got started I couldn't get enough of it. I would recommend it. I m delighted I read this before I started the new book in this series. They can be read as a standalone. I'm just one of them people how have to read in order.

As sweet and patient Xander was with Ellie, he wasn't the brightest PI bulb in the box. In fact I think he failed PI school lol. That said, I still enjoyed Dark Mysteries, Ellie sure did have a cruel and brutal past. ;D

I'm intrigued by Faith and Vin - therein lies a whole new story (I hope!!)

I liked this one a lot. I’m trying to go back and read the stories in order. I think this is one of the author’s first books. Her writing has definitely improved since this story. Definitely worth the read though.

"It had never been like this before, this primal. Raw. Like she wanted him to completely consume her. She wanted to be lost in him." - Ellie

Jessica Gadziala is another author worthy of the 1-click. Her books are raw, dark, gritty, sexy and suspenseful. This book was no exception.

There were times I felt like this:

hidingbehindhands

Like I do at scary movies lol.

Others I was like:

comeone

Xander was a reformed bad boy-turned-P.I. He was successful (although you wouldn't know it based on the way he lived) and the go-to guy when the cops can't or won't help you.

Ellie was a damsel in distress. She was living on the run, trying to escape the clutches of her abusive ex. She ran straight into Xander and his sexy, muscular, safe arms. But her ex's reach was vast and it didn't take long for him to catch up to her.

Now, I sympathized with Ellie. I did. But when I realized that she was asking Xander for help without giving him enough information to go on...

rolleyes

So that was a major reason for docking a star. I hate lies, even if it's a lie by omission.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic suspenseful read. The torture scenes definitely gave me chills.

DARK MYSTERIES

This story starts out with a battered and bleeding Ellie, mysteriously showing up on the doorstep of a brooding investigator, literally begging for help.

Xander is a bit of a mystery himself. He's a P.I. living in a really scary, rundown, shithole of a neighborhood, full of crime and delinquents. But he's untouchable. He's kind of scary, and people of all caliber avoid him like the plague.

Xander vows to give Ellie his protection, even though she's a little vague on the details of her brutalization, deciding he can dig around and find out her story by himself. Their story takes off from there. I loved this story. Xander is a mega hottie. Tall, Dark and Handsome, and let's not forget protective. He's so sweet with Ellie. This story has it all. Great story, sick twisted bad guys, good guys, hot sex, and it's a stand alone with a happy ending. Everything I could possibly ask for!

What a scary , suspenseful yet romantic healing love story. Strongest heroine I've read in a long time. Ellie lived through so much. Xander tried to fight his feelings being that she was his client..yet there was no way these two wouldn't be together. I had moments I was scared to flip the page. I had moments where I didn't want it to end. All in all this author simply captivates and keeps me guessing.

The story had much potential, but the execution was slightly underdeveloped.

Nevertheless much better than the most of contemporary romance books.

Dark Mysteries by Jessica Gadziala
Actual rating: 3 stars

This book was fine. The hero, Xander, was kind of like Sawyer Anderson from Gadziala's 367 Days if Sawyer got knocked on the head one too many times and forgot how to be a P.I. (Seriously, Xander, you're a shit Private Investigator.)

I find myself increasingly irritated with heroes who call every woman they encounter "honey," "sweetheart," etc. Not only is it patronizing as hell, I feel like it takes away from the meaning when they actually uses it with their significant other. The heroine, Ellie, actually thinks this at one point when Xander calls her "sweetheart" and then she remembers that he calls every woman that. Xander also flirts with a woman bartender before he gets with Ellie (but after he realizes he's attracted to her), so those two things kind of made me think less of him.

Ellie wasn't all that developed. Once again, we have a heroine who is strictly defined by the men in her life. The death of her father, her ex-boyfriend, and now, Xander. I really prefer my heroines to be more fleshed out.

The epilogue was pretty good. I would have liked to see more of the Ellie we see in the epilogue, and less of the locking-herself-in-the-apartment-and-cleaning Ellie we see in 85% of the book.

Ellie has found herself hiding and running from city to city as she tries to escape her violet and obsessed ex-boyfriend, but despite the years gone by he still searches for her, Ellie battered and bruised, having been laughed out of a number of private investigating firms, finds herself one night battered and bruised and running to PI Xander Rhodes for help/safety.

Xander has never found it difficult to push the lines of the law in order to help his clients, and his work isn’t all about the money, so he is more than willing to help Ellie, what he doesn’t expect his how personally invested he quickly becomes in helping her, keeping her safe and with him.

I found myself waiting to be drawn in by the writing and characters the author had created, but whilst this wasn’t a bad read, it wasn’t that good either. The plot needed more oomph and Ellie as a character needed to be more developed, more fleshed out.

I also found it super odd that two of Xander’s friends knew about Ellie’s past and what she was keeping from Xander, but they never bothered to tell him! Idiot move as far as I’m concerned, Xander knowing could have led to certain things not occurring.

3.75-4.0 RATING- I'm surprised that more of my GR friends haven't read this author but I'm stoked to have stumbled across her books. As a lover of a damsel in distress story line, the two books I've read from Jessica Gadziala have been perfect for me.

I really like the author's writing style. Both books I've read start off with immediate action, you don't have to read pages and pages of backstory to get pulled into the plot and the pacing is really good. I've been in a bit of a book funk so appreciate the quick draw in. The story isn't sex heavy and isn't as sexy of a read as the first book I read by the author, Reign, but it was still an enjoyable read and one I'd recommend for other readers that enjoy lite romantic suspense or "woman on the run" plots.

One note, Dark Mysteries can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. However, there are several spoilers in this book about What The Heart Needs. Since I really liked the authors writing, I knew I'd likely be reading several of her books. Unfortunately, by the time I realized the book contained spoilers and I should have read What the Heart Needs first, I was already too far into Dark Mysteries to put it down. For readers that have any interest in reading other books by the author, I'd start with What the Heart Needs before reading Dark Mysteries to avoid spoilers.

Xander was known as one of the best private investigators around. One night Ellie showed up on his doorstep. She was being stalked and had no place safe to go. Ellie didn't tell him the whole truth, and what she withheld could put Xander in danger.

I liked the characters. Xander was tough and didn't take any crap. Ellie was traumatized from abuse. I didn't appreciate her lies by omission especially since I didn't understand exactly what she was trying to achieve. The romance went from attraction to love too quickly especially since Xander was a loner and Ellie had issues.

Some things didn't add up. Ellie was being stalked. She knew who her stalker was and why he was after her. So what the hell was she doing going to private investigators? They don't provide protection; they gather information. What she hoped to achieve by going to investigators did not make sense to me. She needed police although in her situation that wasn't the best option either.

Two of Xander's friends knew about Ellie's situation and did not fill him in. It was great that they were willing to keep Ellie's secrets, but why would they risk their friends safety for someone they barely knew? IMO those were not very good friends. It's not cool to keep secrets that endanger people.

Towards the end the stalker needed to be dealt with. None of the men helping Ellie free herself from him had any long term protection plans in mind, which was rather stupid. Those guys were smarter than that. She had been stalked for years. Unless he was dead or permanently incapacitated in some way, he was going to come after her again. Bastards like him don't give up.

Being a woman who gives sarcasm with the best of them I totally appreciate that all of Jessica Gadziala  female characters are snarky and sarcastic . The women in her books have been through hell but never give up. Oh I fall in love with the tough alpha men too but love having that balance of the woman not being some wilting flower.

Jessica is a new author to me and so far I've loved all the books I've read so far.

Y salgo ganando. Y a veces no.

This author just doesn't disappoint!.
The story is jam packed full of suspension, horror, love and laughter all seamlessly woven together like perfection. The characters are great! The relationships formed are well written and nicely discriptive. I had a clear picture of everyone in this story in my mind. There for sure was never a dull moment.

Xander Rhodes is everything you want in a hero. Strong loyal and oh so dominant but equally sweet and caring when it came to Ellie. I loved his patients with her regardless of the knowledge that she was withholding pieces of the puzzle. I love that he was fiercely protective of her. He just ticked every box.

Ellie was a total surprise. Not as out spoken and upfront fiesty as some of Jessicas other heroines but hard in her own ways. She was strong to the core, quieter yes and broken definitely but lord she never gave in, fought with everything she had till the end. I loved her. I also loved how selfless she was when it came to Xander.

Total opposites in reality but absolute perfection together. Their story isn't an easy pill to swallow but so worthwhile. Fantastic story, I can't wait for what's next with this author.

For a good time, call” …

Xander y Ellie me enamoraron.

For me, this was a typical Jessiaca Gadziala book. :-) This story was about Xander Rhodes and Ellie (Eleanor); {Ellie zat in de problemen, Xander schiet te hulp; de vonk slaat over; btje afgezaagd thema} I liked it, but not a 5 star read for me. It took me a while (30/35%) to 'get into the story'. I liked that K, a familair character from another book, made an appearance. I'd say: enough secondary characters to build a complete series around! :-)

I loved this! Finished it in one sitting. Fast paced, gritty, romantic, steamy - all the things a girl needs.

Xander was a gruff man with a gooey centre (the teacup killed me) and Ellie was a broken girl with strength I marvelled at.

The ONLY thing that keeps this from being a 5* read for me is why did she not go to the police? Your ex is a big time organised crime Lord, they would have listened and helped her! She would have been helpful to them!

I don’t want to judge because women in situations like hers do the best they can and I can’t understand what it must be like, it was just something I couldn’t wrap my head around.

I will 100% be reading the rest of this mammoth series!

3.5 stars, I enjoyed it but it's not my favorite. I was hoping for more drama but in this book the intensity feels a bit flat. Also the closure is not as good as I though it would be. Overall I liked this book, but this could be better.

So, Xander comes across as a gruff, hard ass kinda guy. I mean he's a P.I., so I assume that goes with the territory. But for some strange reason, through no fault of our dear writer, I could only picture him in the image of Tom Selleck for the first half of the book. It totally screwed up my ability to see him as the hot, brooding alpha I know he was written as. Not that I have anything against Tom, but I was literally ten years old when the final episode of Magnum PI aired, so he's never been in my desirable man category. Plus, the mustache. My heroes can't have that kind of mustache.

Anyways, I was halfway through the book before my visual of Xander finally started to morph, and I think that may have hindered my enjoyment a tad. Also, Ellie was almost qualified for my kick-ass-heroine category, but the lie of omission just didn't sit well with me. It did make for a good mystery spin on this suspenseful story, however. She certainly is a strong character.

I'm looking forward to making my way through the whole Navesink Bank Universe.
