Experience the world’s most wild, remote, beautiful places with shots by National Geographic photographers and vintage photos pulled from the National Geographic archives. Highlighting 50 of Earth’s most pristine, scenic locales, this beautiful book is illustrated with stunning images, coupled with accessible, engaging descriptions and practical travel information. The book covers everything from otherworldly, secluded valleys to far-flung, soaring mountain ranges. National Geographic photographers share some of their favorite shots from around the world and explain how they got them, and historical photos culled from National Geographic’s hallowed image archive highlight old Society explorations in rugged, distant locations, and give a glimpse into the bygone days of these exotic places.
The National Geographic Society (NGS), headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, is one of the largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations in the world. Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, archaeology, and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation, and the study of world culture and history. The National Geographic Society's logo is a yellow portrait frame—rectangular in shape—which appears on the margins surrounding the front covers of its magazines and as its television channel logo. Through National Geographic Partners (a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company), the Society operates the magazine, TV channels, a website, worldwide events, and other media operations.
Really beautiful photojournalism about the planets many beautiful places. I had a bucket list item or two reinforced, and a few that I want to find more about - more photos, more essays about visiting them.
I love looking at the photos in these National Geographic books. This one was divided up by continent, and displayed photos of amazing locales on each continent. Also, there was info, ways to make travel plans to visit there and a little about the history of each place. Some of my favorites were Point Reyes California, Antarctica, the Nile Valley and the Skellig Islands. Those photos in particular were striking and amazing in their detail. They were places that were in turns remote, welcoming, ancient and wondrous. An around the world photo journey.
Absolutely beautiful photography. Not a guide I'd consult for necessary travel information, but good as a resource from which to draw inspiration for such a trip.
