It is in that darkness you make me desperate for your presence, your touch, your caress. You make me need you... You make it impossible for me to live without you… And then, eventually…
You make me fall in love with you.

This was a great, suspenseful read that kept me guessing right up until the end. While I was able to make some of the connections early, the real twist wasn't apparent until it was playing out on the pages. Then, I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. I couldn't believe what I was reading.

Lily is a high school girl that lives a very privileged life. She has a nice house, a loving family and a world of opportunities laid at her feet. She's a good student and prefers calm, quiet evenings at home to the drunken parties her best friend drags her to.

For months, Lily has been receiving a lily on her doorstep from her stalker. She knows that she's being followed, but feels oddly comforted by her stalker's presence. He's never tried to hurt her or threaten her in any way.

One night at a party, Lily makes out with her hot stalker, J, during a game of seven minutes in heaven. From that point forward, the two begin a secret romance. She still hasn't seen her stalker's face, but she can't deny the magnetic pull she feels toward him.

Told in alternating POV, it is apparent that J has a motive of revenge. He did not have the blessed life that Lily has had, but how the two are interconnected is a mystery. While it is clear that he does not have good intentions toward Lily, it is also evident that he is falling in love with her. J is fighting an internal battle, his sense of loyalty at odds with his feelings for Lily.

Although I enjoyed this story immensely, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I had some problems with this story. First off, I had a hard time buying Lily's recklessness and stupidity. I mean, who runs around blindfolding themselves and meeting with their stalker in remote locations! It seemed out of character for such a "good girl" and was deserving of the TSTL title.

I also did start skimming some toward the middle. The build-up surrounding J's identity seemed to go on forever. Right from the start, I knew that she was going to be kidnapped by him and I wanted to get to that part and see what happened. Unfortunately, there were times when I felt like I'd never get there. In my opinion, a lot of those pages could have been weeded out. It got redundant and tedious.

Overall, I give this one 3 1/2 stars, rounded up. It was a good story with a surprising twist. It kept me guessing the whole time.

“Time’s up, Beautiful.”

"That was before we knew what was really going on. Now that we know, it changes things."

Well, that was a very intriguing and well-paced romantic suspense. I read each page holding my breath. It was interesting and captivating. It kept me guessing the whole time and I really loved it!

Who leaves lilies on your door for six months?
What kind of a stalker is this? What does he want?
Why doesn’t he come out and talk for so long?
What is his plan?

This book really makes you wonder, causing you to question everyone and everything.

* Can you fall in love with your stalker who watches your every move?
* Can you give your heart, body and soul to your stalker willingly?
* Can you love a guy whose face you don’t see, whose name you don’t know? What you know is his voice and his touch only... And what he makes you feel...

There was either a blindfold or a mask...

description

When there was no blindfold or mask, there was darkness. It was scary and crazy but still sensual and very hot...

It was also emotional...

Well, wow, just wow, that was something different and it had a good plot line with surprising twists...

I don’t want to give spoilers and I advise you to go read this book without reading many reviews because the less you know about it, the more surprising it will be for you.

Then, all along the novel, you will be thinking about the answer to these questions:

* Who is safer for Lily, her family, her friends, or her stalker?
* Who is the murderer, who is the protector?
* Who is guilty, who is innocent?
* Who really loves her?
* Who can kill her and who can kill for her?
* Whose revenge is that?
* Is she a bait, a victim or what?
* Is the stalker the good guy or the bad guy or neither, or both?

Well, sometimes there is no black or white but gray.
Sometimes there are no sharp lines.
Sometimes lines are blurred.
Sometimes you make other mistakes when you are trying to right the wrongs...
Sometimes, scars are not only on the surface but deep inside.

"No amount of physical or emotional scars left behind could ever actually reveal true heartache. The evil from which they were formed cuts so deeply into your bones that it seeps into your bloodstream and pumps through your veins until it’s ringing in your ears. The scars never truly show themselves… Never reveal the brunt of their true force. While they are a symbol of survival, they are also reminders of things we would much rather forget—of pain that cannot be shed."

I strongly recommend this book if you like romantic suspense. The writer leaves breadcrumbs all the time revealing the truth gradually and I loved the writing, it was very successful... The way she uncovered facts kept me glued to the pages. Very-well earned 5 stars, really!

My only criticism would be that I would really appreciate an Epilogue. I wish there were an epilogue... but still, it is a very good book, a must-read...

***********************************************

It is told by dual point of view, both by Lily and Jarrod.

It is 360 pages and although it is long, it is unputdownable...

Here are some quotes that may attract your attention...

I want him to do all of the things I know I shouldn’t want him to. I want him to touch me in places I’ve never been touched. I feel safe with him, but I know I shouldn’t. I am completely at his mercy; he can do anything he wants. If he had a knife, he could stab me right now, and that would be the end of me. The fact that I feel this overwhelming sense of calm with him is inconceivable.

***

“Jarrod! Jarrod, help me. Help me, please. Please get them off me! Please don’t let them do this to me. Jarrod!”

***

“You make yourself sound like a beast.”
“I am a beast. But this is no fairytale, Lily. This—right here in front of you—is the real deal. I am a beast in size, a beast in looks, and a beast by nature. I am not a good man.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I am destructive. I follow that path and it follows me. My life has led me down that road for a very long time now. Being here with you is the only path I have chosen correctly. You see me like no one else does.”

***

Oh, I am so lost to this man. I am lost in him.

***

“Please let me see you. I need you. I need you to hold me.” He strokes my hand again. It’s almost as if he’s trying to tame a savage beast. I don’t care, though. This is the first bit of contact that I’ve had from him in what seems like weeks. I am a starved animal. Starved for affection, starved for attention, and starved for him.

***

"You will never find me. No matter how much you look."
My God, this man is frustrating! I sigh aloud and my shoulders sink.
Is the mere fact that I can’t see him the main reason I’m so interested in this man? Does he realize that, and is that why he’s playing this game?

***

I knew what I had to do. I planned to lure Lily in and make her trust me. I fully intended to go through with the plan of tainting that innocent heart of hers.

***

I leave just like I always do—like a thief in the night. I am a thief, but I don’t steal objects. No, what I’m stealing is quite different. I am taking her . Just like we had planned, I am taking her inch by inch and surprisingly, she’s letting me.

***

She was meant for one purpose and one purpose only. Revenge.

***

I am here. I am always here, Lily. There's no escaping me.

***

I am the only one she allows to touch her, I am the only one she allows to kiss her, and I am the only one she’s allowing to rob her of her virtue.

***

“Scars” by James Bay is now playing, and the dancers are in full swing.
As I let James Bay’s words surround me, I lift my hand up to touch his face. “What has caused your scars? What have you lived through, J?” I watch as he closes his eyes, and I know there is pain there.

***

“I am what you need, what you crave... what you desire. I can give you anything you want, but only if you’re willing. If you wanted me gone, I will go, and you will never have to see me again.”

SCARS: Is told in dual perspectives (Mystery bathroom man & Lily)

We're first introduced to nearly eighteen year old Lily writing in her diary about the feeling of being watched, the feeling of being stalked, lilies being left behind every day of the week like a calling card, she never sees him.

A silly party game of Seven Minutes in Heaven, seven minutes locked in a bathroom with a total stranger which resulted in the best kiss Lily has ever had.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic "I want to taste you, Lily."
"Who are you?"
I finally ask
"I am a man who seeks to right the wrongs."

Who is this man she spent seven minutes kissing? Where did he come from? How did he get in the bathroom without anyone at the party seeing him? Could it be the man who leaves the lilies behind every afternoon?

So many question that are left unanswered.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Turns up at the most unexpected times, always positioned where she can't turn around and see him, always watching, always stalking.

I am here
I am always here, Lily
There's no escaping me.

If you've read previous books by this author you'd know that she is the mastermind queen of stalker guys that we love to hate, they are always in the shadows biding their time when it's ready to take things to the next level and this guy is no different.

Revenge, is the word which has motivated me for years. I went into this with the sole intention of seeking to right the wrongs of my past. - Bathroom Guy

Image and video hosting by TinyPicWho is he?
Why is he following me?
What does he want?

Gods the anticipation of what's to come, the suspense
I was pretty much hooked as soon as I read that delicious gritty Prologue.

Is he some crazed stalker who's playing a shrewd game of cat and mouse, and once he has me where he wants me, he'll pounce?

This is a real hard review to write solely for the reason that any way I go it will reveal a huge chunk of the story and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. When you go into this expect the unexpected, expect those twists and turns to come at you because oh boy do they ever..

The faceless man who haunts me.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Holy shit this was good, beyond good, what could've been a dark, twisted, sadistic story was about one mans drive to seek revenge, but that kind of back fired on him when he was faced with such purity, the bathroom man I strived to understand, once he revealed his motives, his identity, his story, his scars, I fell in love with his character.

He wasn't a bad man, he had so much goodness inside of him it just took the right person to scratch at all his layers to find it.

3,5 Stars!
Only minutes after i finished Scars by Jaimie Roberts and i can't stop myself from contemplating my rating and my general views about the writing, the theme and the characters. I'm not exactly torn up because i know that even though i liked the book there are too many issues to make me see above all hindrances so... yes this will be a weird and highly contradictory review after all.

Lets start by setting the tone.. I liked, no scratch that, loved the idea. The idea is amazingly awesome. Now execution-wise there are many bright points but that's not enough. The writing though solid is not exceptional and i believe that if the author decides to concentrate a little bit more on details and find believable explanations to tie her twists better, she will write some incredible books in the future.

Now about this one, i can't but love the over-the-top romance arc and the subtle sexual tension that is evident throughout the book but at the same time i can't forget the fact that the characters don't have a wider emotional range and their value orientation is a bit off and no i don't mean the stalking or the devious plans i mean the genuine sentimentality that wasn't really apparent.

Although the drama was quite enough as were the plot-twists i still feel that there wasn't an actual game-changing moment due to the fact that we already knew that J had real feelings about Lily and he was pretty adamant about it from early on so as this being the main matter in a romance book all the secondary factors were a bit irrelevant.

So we have a naive and gullible young woman living in a too good to be true reality until a stalker figure changes her life forever. The aforementioned stalker is a tortured and tainted but still gentle hero that overcomes his hardships and while he always seems really dark and weird he is never abusive or an ass. I never particularly liked Lily but Jarrod was captivating and interesting.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- The author loves some expressions and she tends to overuse them.
- Elle, Lily's sister, was great, but i wanted to know her more.
- My favorite character was Jerry. A bit of an asshole but with a heart of gold.
- Although at some points you feel as a reader that there might be something more to the story, or someone else involved, the author never leads you on.
- I liked the letter.
- I needed some more mourning for the dead.
- Christine's story is devastating.
- An interesting hint in the end.

3 time's up beautiful stars

“One day, then… One day soon.”

Lily, a mature 17 year realizes that she is being stalked, but instead of panicking, she starts to develop a certain fondness for her stalker. After a night in a party, where she spends 7 minutes making out with a stranger, who also turns out to be her stalker, she decides that the chemistry between them is too strong to ignore.

“I am a beast. But this is no fairytale, Lily. This—right here in front of you—is the real deal. I am a beast in size, a beast in looks, and a beast by nature. I am not a good man.”

This story is pretty romantic. This was a little bit like Nina Jones' Debt, and a little bit like creepy, but with a lot less darkness. I was honestly expecting it to go all Terrorscape on me, but it was more mellow that I thought it would be. The story is definitely interesting, and keeps you on your toes with all the twists.

But my main problem with this book was the fact that Lily, despite of being the smartest person in her entire society, was actually pretty dumb. When an author says that a heroine is smart, and then goes on to reinstate it by making every single character keep saying how smart she was, I expect the heroine to be-

surprise surprise!

SMART!

Holy fuck was she stupid. And don't give me the "she's innocent, thats why you feel like her innocence is foolish" thing. Let me say why I found her dumb as hell:
1. She has a stalker who gives her lilies and she likes it. Talk about going all Disney princess on me. *cue eyeroll*
2. She has never seen him, but trusts him, and goes anywhere with him, even though he does not let her see him.
3. She forgives her to-be-rapist by justifying that he was her age old friend, so it doesn't matter.

Need I say anything else? Argh. And those conversations those people had- they were so damn flat and it made no sense to me how emotionally weird everyone was. They were not reacting the way normal people would in those situations.

But with all these complains, I really enjoyed the plotline of the story. It was unexpected and completely unique, so does have a pretty good story, and the writing is pretty decent too.

All in all, a little frustrating, but an enjoyable read.

***** 4 Stalker Stars *****

I knew I was going to give Scars 4 to 5 stars as soon as I finished the prologue. I couldn't drop the book. This is a stalker/romance story. Although it wasn't as dark as I was expecting it to be, I loved it!

Lily is a very mature 17 year old. She doesn't brag or whine. Even though her parents have high paying jobs, Lily is just a humble girl. She also has a secret stalker.

description

This stalker is pretty romantic. Everyday he leaves her a flower at the front door, and he makes sure she gets home safely.

Lily mentions it to her best friend, but she doesn't notify her family about someone following her. There's just something about the man that pulls her. His voice, his body, his actions.

There are some steamy and erotic moments, but the sex scenes aren't everywhere. The romance between the characters moves at a good pace.

I really enjoyed this book. There's romance, mystery, and some suspense. It also has some good twists that surprised me. I can't wait to read more by Jaimie Roberts.

This book is from an author I just love to read as she surprises me every time. She can write such sweet and sad scenes or very, very tough and dark ones. I'm honestly a big fan of her and I was lucky to get this one. Publication date: June 23.

“I am what you need, what you crave... what you desire. I can give you anything you want, but only if you’re willing. If you wanted me gone, I will go, and you will never have to see me again.”

This must be my seven book written by Jaimie Roberts. I love this author as she reinvents herself every time. With Scars, she’s delivered a dark story. Beginning on a relatively light and intriguing tone, you’ll plunge progressively into a darker, worrisome story. Cleverly built, this story will lead you from stalker romance into a full thriller with a very dark and harsh side.
I’ve been shocked and needed to hang on tight to my seat as some parts of the story were so dark I had to stop reading to remember I was not in the same room as the characters. I was not witnessing the horror happening, I was seated somewhere else and I had to breathe.

 photo d2a415d8-e4d2-4182-a378-97d6914781be_zpswqpoyhmr.jpg

I don’t want to tell too much about the plot as the magic of the story resides in this masterfully executed scheme. Jaimie will trick you many times within this book and I was convinced I knew the villain’s identity just to falter in my conviction and be sent later on another loose trail. I love it when I keep guessing and guessing all along!

In just a few words, this is the story of Lily, seventeen year old sensible girl. She does not like to party, is still a virgin and prefers to read a good book than going out and getting drunk.
Lily has a secret: for some months now, she’s got a stalker leaving her lilies on her doorstep. Strangely, she’s never felt threatened by her mysterious admirer and has never uttered a word to her parents or even to her best friend Christine.

At a party, her mysterious man will enthrall her, possessing her mind and her senses but always remaining in the shadows. In his hands, she’ll become someone else, compliant, ready to obey his command.

”What am I doing? This is not me! I’m sensible Lily. I don’t go to parties and get locked up with strangers who I let kiss me like I’ve never been kissed before. “

”I lean my head back, exposing myself to him. I’m completely vulnerable and completely surrendering to him... this man... this stranger. It feels too good to be in his arms.”

Soon she’ll begin a heated relationship with her stalker. Never revealing his identity, she’ll have to trust him.
As I progressed in my reading, I found some intriguing details in Lily’s life hinting at some hidden secrets. Her friends and family had some peculiar behavior at time. All these little clues weave a dark and oppressive atmosphere. Her stalker is a master manipulator and she’ll be putty in his hands.

Lily is a very endearing character as she is warm, smart and caring. She truly brings light in others life. Even when things got ugly and she could have chosen to turn to resentment and hate she’ll remain strong and loving.
Her stalker is a conflicted and conflicting character. He is hot, commanding but the trickster will be tricked in the end. Suffice to say I loved him.

For lovers of Deviant, Jaimie left us with a gift: ”I put your toilet roll on the right way.” I stare at her in disbelief. “What?” I ask with a laugh. “Your toilet roll wasn’t on correctly. It was under instead of over.”

So, this is a five stars read for the plot, the tricks, all the extreme and hard emotions I felt. Be warned this is not a “rainbow and unicorn” story and if you don’t like dark read, maybe you won’t be able to stand it.

*3 stalker stars*

Idk...this book started off pretty great. The encounters between the heroine and her mysterious stalker were pretty hot. Not saying that I approve of having sex with a creepy stalker, but still...the scenes were very steamy.

But towards the middle, it just got very convoluted with so many different "twists" that it just felt a bit like a jumbled mess. Towards the end of the book, I found myself disliking every character for one reason or another.

Although I did have my qualms with it, I do feel the book was well written and the sex scenes were super sexy and hot. So I am giving this book a 3 based on that.

4 Stars!!

“Because when the heart dies, what else is left? One way or the other, it can’t change anything. It won’t change the fact that what’s done is done, and you can never repair a dead heart.”

Lily at almost 18, has a great life- money, friends, and is doing well in school. She's felt for a while, that someone is watching and following her. But this stalker is nice and leaves things like lilies on her doorstep.

One night at a party- she gets dared to go in on a game of seven minutes in heaven. When in the dark closet, she is kissed by a stranger she isn't allowed to see. Emotions are heightened and Lily realizes this may be her stalker. After the party he starts to show up places Lily is at - the catch, she can never see his face.

J- or aka Jarred, has a secret and one thing on his mind... REVENGE. He singles out Lily as the perfect pawn in his little game. What he doesn't realize is that there is more than meets the eye with her. Will he be able to focus on his end game? Or will he be caught up in Lily's web?

Secrets come out- the past is confronted and lives will be changed. Scars have more than just one meaning.

I have to admit, a good friend recommended this to me- and when I read the first couple chapters- I didn't think I would finish it. It felt weird that this girl had no issues with a dude with no face-stalking her. She doesn't tell anyone for a while and just kinda goes along with it. After about the 30 % mark, I was hooked. Things started to turn and I was impressed with how this author took something that I was feeling NOT OKAY with and presented it in a way I never would have expected!

This book wasn't perfect- but it was addicting and I had to know what the heck was happening. The author does a great job of keeping all the hidden aspects hidden until just the right time!

Overall, I ended up enjoying this way more than I thought I would in the beginning - and I am glad I kept going. I would recommend this if you're looking for a romantic type thriller that keeps you guessing until the end!

Blurb :
I had the perfect school, the perfect friends—the perfect life ...
At least, that’s what I thought.
But you changed all that.
You are always there ... Always watching ... Always waiting in the shadows. You send me flowers and messages. You stalk me, trace my every movement...
Until that one day, in a silly game of Seven Minutes in Heaven, when I finally get to feel you—have a taste of you ...
It left me wanting more.
One catastrophic day, my wish is granted.
Just past my eighteenth birthday, tragedy strikes and I watch my family die before my eyes.
You are there. You rescue me. You choose my life over my older sister’s, and I hate you for that. I hate you for taking me and imprisoning me. You say it’s for my sake, but I know it’s for your own. You make me see that my life could be much worse without you in it...
You make me see true darkness.
It is in that darkness you make me desperate for your presence, your touch, your caress. You make me need you... You make it impossible for me to live without you… And then, eventually…
You make me fall in love with you.

Secrets will always wound the ones twisted within their web of lies... But the ones I’m tangled in ... are deadly.

WARNING: Although this book (overall) is not a dark read, one chapter is an exception, and contains the following triggers: childhood sexual/emotional abuse with some intensity in one particular scene.

I absolutely loved this book. Though at times I wanted to strangle the hero. Ms Roberts kept us guessing from beginning to end on what the heck was going on here. And let me tell you the big reveal blew me out of my seat. When I started reading this I was like hell no when she finds out she better not forgive him, but when it happened I was praying she would. I hate how Ms Roberts can do that, make me hate someone then root for them in the end. I have to say it takes a good author to accomplish that. To bring out all your feelings them turn them into something you least expect.

I stayed up reading late into the night and ignoring my chores because I was so transfixed by the story in this book! SCARS has everything: revenge, passion, love, loss of innocence, hatred, crime, rape, abuse, murder, juvenile hall/jail, high school excitement, betrayal, stalking, foster care, grief, and more. Most powerful though were the deep, palpable emotions that seemed to fly off the pages into my soul. Ms. Roberts is a master storyteller, developing a premise and storyline totally unique and completely unforgettable!

I m not rating this book....

this book is excellent in many ways....suspense,mystery,romance,character development.... but the thing which made my mood off and forced me to dnf this book at 45% is, hero is too much young for my taste.... he is 20....and I like my alpha hero mature .....I don't,t know but this age thing make my mood so off and on for any book...maybe this is my mental blockage that if hero is mature in age like Kristen Ashley heroes then he will b a very good alpha...

other wise this book is damn too good ,if age issue of hero wouldn't,t been there then I will never putdown this book ever...and maybe this book will b 5 stars read for me...

Welp, this didn't exactly go how I expected it to be. It kinda did, but the pace was a bit slow for me.

What we have here is the story of how a stalkee fell in love with her stalker. Her Byronic hero stalker. Did that scratch your itch yet? Well, there was a lot if stalking happening in this one. It read more of a NA romance as the girl was 18 and our mysterious guy was 20-ish. There was mentions of traumatic pasts and rape. Oh and HFN (kinda) instead of HEA.

"just like our scars, they can easily be cut back open and made to bleed out. We are never immune to that possibility."

Scar - a manifestation of the skin's healing process. A lingering sign of damage either physical or mental...

Lily has a stalker, a seemingly harmless and romantic stalker that woos her from the shadows. Slowly, steadily he wins her trust by building a rapport and pushing the boundaries. At almost 18 she has lived a sheltered life of wealth and safety with a nuclear family in an affluent area. Nothing bad has ever darkened her little bubble of perfection. Her nameless, faceless stalker adds a little excitement to her life and blindly like a lamb to slaughter she follows where he leads.

A master manipulator J is the man behind the mask. With his own agenda he has invested time and a whole lot of effort in winning Lily's trust. Working back through the events from a pivotal moment showcased in the prologue the story is cleverly written to cause misdirection and keep the reader on their toes. What has led Lily to the situation she has found herself and is everything is as it appears? What motivates a man to seduce an innocent? What drives someone to kill? How far would you go for vengeance and to right the wrongs of the Father? Are there any boundaries you wouldn't cross? Secrets, lies and deception underpin everyone's actions throughout the story. It's not as dark as I had expected as its set amongst teenagers and their respective dramas such as prom and how far to go with their boyfriends yet the under current is still very much Jaimie Roberts mastermind story telling. Think of the TV series Pretty Little Liars and you are in the ball park. Layers of subterfuge and misdirection make the big reveal heart breaking and totally changes how I felt about J. My emotions suffered whiplash as I went from one extreme to another! A perfect slightly dark, mysterious read that kept me intrigued to the last page. I also had a huge smile at a certain reference to a previous stalker, bravo!

A four and a half star they are but only children read!

~~~ 5 "stalker" stars~~~
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! This one just proved, yet again, why Jaimie Roberts is one of my fave authors.
I was instantly hooked, loving another stalker romance, since I'm a weirdo and I love me some obsessed stalker. I find it very romantic.
description
While reading this story I was so sure I knew all the answers, saw all the clues and pretty much solved the whole mystery. You know, I pulled Jessica Fletcher out of my hat
description
Wrong! My inner Hercule Poirot didn't see it coming and at 75% I was like
description
and then the whole thing just escalated into the f*cked up territory. I loved it, of course.
It was a great mix of OTT alpha, pure-hearted heroine, highschool angst, mystery/suspense, dark, sweet, weird and smut.
I need more of Jaimie's books. She fills my inner darkness.
I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome this book was! I’m not going to go into much of a story synopsis because it’s better if you go into it blind. There’s so much that goes on and so many secrets are revealed. But, the most interesting thing is how a guy can be so mysterious and come and go as he pleases. I thought it was an intriguing concept and it kept my attention through the entire book. Some reveals just blew me away, and I didn’t see them coming. Unpredictable. Intriguing. Shocking. And, Amazing! Those are just some words that I use to describe this novel. The story is mostly about high school age kids, but it’s more geared to a New Adult audience instead of Young Adult. The intimacy is pretty explicit and steamy. And, revenge has never been so sweet. This is one twisted read with motives eventually being questioned as the truth comes out. Whoever thought the game of Seven Minutes in Heaven could be so suspenseful??
“I sigh, staring down at the scars on my leg and now my arm. I trace a line from one end to the other on my arm, and all the while, Jarrod is never far from my mind. He and I are very much alike in a lot of ways now. We both have scars on the inside and out. We both were broken from tragedies and the losses that came with them.” ~ Lily (Chap. 46)
And that is one gorgeous cover!!!
This Book was an exceptional read on all accounts - I should be as scared as SHE is because from the first page on I am not afraid of HIM.
I know he is dark and most probably not the nice guy you would want to introduce to your parents - but... -
I should explain myself or this story but honestly I DO NOT WANT TO.
This book is so unique that its plot should remain the way the author spun the Blurb because the reader should experience it like I did - unprepared
So do yourself a favour and DO NOT read any reviews containing spoilers....just DON't ... if you read the Blurb and you think this is interesting and you are not afraid that there might be the triggers as advised in the Blurb - GO for it ...
This is the reaction I had watching Lily be so naive and reckless. Honestly, this could off been a good storyline if the heroine wasn't so stupid. All I could think and say in my head was
"Lily you stupid silly girl"
"Lily you stupid silly girl"
"Lily you stupid silly girl"
Two stars.
5 BEAUTIFUL STARS
"Time's up, beautiful" I just want to cry, I don't want it to be over. I want more, so much more. I know an Author jumps for joy when they type 'The End' but as a reader, I didn't want to get to the end. I could have read on and on and on. The story was so intense, I was on the edge of my seat. I literally had no clue as to what the outcome would be. Usually I can see what is going to happen or at least have an idea, but not even an inkling this time. High five Jaimie Roberts for keeping the mystery not only exciting but concealed till the time was most definitely right and my curiosity at an all time high.
Lily is a young lady with her whole life ahead of her. She's a beautiful girl with a good heart, maybe a little to trusting, but who can grow through life without making mistakes. Life is a constant lesson, we learn as we grow. Lily has a great bunch of friends around her, most of them anyways, there is always one that messes up.
When Lily believes she has a secret admirer, she doesn't confide in anyone, not even her closest friends. It's scary and exciting all at the same time. The admirer or stalker, whatever you want to call him because in this story he has no name to begin with, so I am not giving that out. He's sweet but dangerous, he's sexy but scarred, he's thoughtful but scary, he's masterful but intense. Oh yeah, he's got it all going on. Honestly through the story I was thinking, Oh My God!! Who does that? and Jesus! I hope no one actually tries this for real. You know when your children watch stunts on television and the narrator tells them 'do not try this at home' well, this is fiction people, the events, scenes that take place in this book should never be copied. It's against the law to stalk someone.
The secrets that are revealed will leave you stunned for sure. I just couldn't believe it. My mind was in a whirl, my heart beat was pounding, I thought it was going to pop through my chest. I won't lie, I was apprehensive about reading this book because dark reads are just not my thing, but it's not dark like that. It has a part in this book that will turn your stomach for sure but you will want to continue reading.
This is one of those books that I hope everyone reads. You will be taken on the most exciting and intense journey. For now my time is up. I am off to seek other books out by this Author.
4.5, rounded-up "Beautiful" stars!
So, I went into this book thinking it would be a lot like Deviant, the other Jaimie Roberts' book I've read, because it had the stalking theme (which is a personal favorite of mine). And while I liked Deviant just fine, this book was a lot better, and just all around a lot more .
First of all, it really wasn't dark. There was about a chapter or so that has 'trigger warning' stamped all over it, but at its core, I feel like this book was almost a sweet YA romance... just with a lot of fuckery going on around it. The suspense of the book is a slow burn, so I don't want to give too much away.
Lily, our heroine, is impossible not to love. She was innocent, pure, and just an all around good person, wise beyond her years. Also, that was believable, mostly because she was so young, a high school senior/graduate for the majority of the book. At times, she was almost too perfect, but she redeemed herself towards the end when she finally showed some real, genuine emotion.
J, the hero/anti-hero/stalker, is impossible not to love and hate in equal measure. Truthfully, I never really hated him, but at times I thought I would've if I was Lily. He was so broken, but yet I never really doubted what kind of person he was.
I actually really liked the supporting cast of characters in this book. There was definitely suspense, and a lot of twists, most of which I saw from miles away and some of which I didn't. Lily really carried this book, since 90% of it is from her POV. For being a teenager, she really was special. It wasn't hard to see what J saw in her. Really, this book had it all; it was just an experience . It can be read as a stand-alone, but I think there might be a book two coming out, and I will definitely read it. I feel like I know Lily through-and-through, and now I want to know the mysterious J!
Minus half-star: The first half is a bit slow, and the book is a bit long, but I enjoyed living Lily's life with her. She was a normal high-school student, and I smiled at parts, remembering those times in my youth. Still, I felt it could've been condensed just a little!
Well the very best thing about this book was trying to figure out the mystery. Who was the stalker? What was his plan and why? You know something horrible happened that set everything in motion, but the truth was tragic and heartbreaking.
You get to watch Lily fall in love with what would seem, at times, like a secret admirer. And this 'secret admirer' was sweet and sexy...in the creepiest way. Lol I mean, in RL if someone leaves flowers on your doorstep, run for your life, but it book world, it was incredibly sweet. I liked the mystery man a whole lot.
I wish there was more sex (but hey, that's just me) and that the mystery didn't take quite so long to reveal itself.
