4-1/2 Stars. I always find a new Haunted Vintage Mystery fun and entertaining! Book 6 raced me to the Kentucky Derby with Cookie Chanel, owner of a nifty vintage boutique. Along for the ride is a new ghost, Maureen, who owned some of the hats Cookie purchased for a customer. Also, the ghost of Ramon, a jockey who was supposed to be riding one of the Derby contenders suddenly appears and Cookie is asked to solve two murders. Luckily, her savvy and sassy #1 ghost friend, Charlotte, is always by Cookie's side to help search for clues and keep the dialogue snappy and humorous. I love Wind Song, Cookie's gorgeous white Persian cat, who is cool and magical and has a closely guarded secret. The action is consistent throughout the storytelling and kept me guessing who the killer's were until the author reveal. I always look forward to Ms. Pressey's quirky characters, and the mysteries are neatly reined in at the end.

P.S. My heart was touched by the scene with Secretariat.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy from NetGalley and the publisher.

Cookie Chanel, owns a vintage clothing store, "It's Vintage, Y'all". Her best friend, Heather owns the occult shop adjoining her building. Heather helps Cookie deal with the ghosts that seem to follow her around and need her help in the books. In the last book, we found out that Windsong, Cookie's cat, shares its body with the spirit of her grandmother. Windsong communicates with Cookie using a Ouija board and Tarot cards that Heather has to interpret. The stories are fun and once again Charlotte, the first ghost to appear to Cookie, is present in all her sassy glory. to Cookie by moving a planchette around a Ouija board. This book introduces us to two new ghosts, Maureen and Ramon.

In this story, Cookie has been hired to provide vintage outfits for her friend Danielle for events during Derby Week. While searching in an attic for vintage hats, she meets the ghost of Maureen, the previous owner of the house and the fashions. She was murdered and attaches herself to Cookie hoping she can find her killer. Maureen, joins Cookie, Charlotte and Windsong on the trip to Kentucky. Of course, Cookie stumbles upon a dead body at the opening party, and the ghost of Ramon, one of the derby jockeys joins the group. Charlotte convinces Cookie to investigate his death for Ramon. While working for Danielle giving advice about vintage fashion, trying to solve the crime of Ramon's death she also juggles the two men interested in her that have shown up from Sugar Creek. Unfortunately, someone doesn't want her investigating the death. Threats and strange men come Cookie's way as she tries to discover who killed Ramon. Of course she is also working on Maureen's death with the help of Heather and her mother at home.

I enjoyed this addition to the series. There were plenty of twists and turns and with the various suspects in the murder, it made it hard to figure out who the culprit was. I did figure out the murderer before the reveal but it was still interesting to see who else was involved and why. All in all, a fun read and I look forward to the next book! The Haunted Vintage Mystery series is a fun, quirky cozy mystery series. Each book is filled with lighthearted humor, interesting plots, and likable characters. The characters are charming and fun. I do not usually read a lot of paranormal cozy mysteries, but this series seems different and is very enjoyable. I enjoy the humor, vintage clothing tips, the quirkiness of the characters and situations as well as the mystery. I recommend this book and series to any cozy mystery lover. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Fantastic Mystery

Yet another incredible installment to this series I love. This time Cookie travels to Kentucky for the famous Derby to help with a go have wardrobe. If course Charlotte and Wind Song go with her as well as a new addition. What they don't expect is to get involved in a murder while they are there or for Dylan to show up. This makes for an interesting adventure as the story progresses yet we still get all the quirks that I do love about these books such as the tarot cards, Ouija board, and ghost involvement. Really is a must read. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

Cookie is excited that she's been asked to help outfit a ritzy party for the Kentucky Derby. When she goes to check out some vintage hats in the attic of an old house, she encounters Maureen, the ghost of the woman who owned the house and the hats. Once Maureen realizes Cookie can see her, she wants Cookie to solve her murder. Unfortunately for Maureen, Cookie has an engagement in Kentucky, but Maureen accompanies her, along with Charlotte, the ghost who's attached herself to Cookie.

While attending a party, Cookie discovers the dead body of one of the Derby jockeys. He's been murdered, and now his ghost is insisting that Cookie solve his murder. She's not alone, however. Her sorta-kinda boyfriend, Detective Dylan Valentine shows up in Kentucky, as does her wannabe boyfriend, attorney Ken Harrison. Now Cookie is juggling three ghosts, two men, and a Derby. As her investigation leads her closer to the truth, her life is in danger. Can Cookie solve Ramon's murder, or will her ghost join the others?

I am about to give up on this series. The writing is juvenile, and the narrative is terribly unsophisticated. There is no cohesiveness to the plot; Cookie just careens from one situation to another in a senseless fashion. No pun intended. There was no reason for either Dylan or Ken to have followed her to Kentucky. Somewhere along the way, it was revealed that her BFF Heather was in danger from looking into Maureen's death. What? When did that become a thing? I had surmised that we would solve Ramon's death in this book, then investigate Maureen's in the next. Once again, the ghosts are an obnoxious pain, always badgering Cookie to sneak into this office, try to eavesdrop on that conversation, break into this truck, etc. WHY DON'T THE GHOSTS DO THAT?! They can walk through walls, they can listen in on conversations, they can even drop in at the police station and glean information. Apparently, however, no one is smart enough to think of that, from Cookie to the ghosts themselves TO THE AUTHOR. Honest to pete.

This story was a scattered, flighty, hot mess from start to finish. One star, begrudgingly given.

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is the fifth book in Rose Pressey’s Haunted Vintage Mystery series. There is excellent background information, which allows this book to be read as a stand-alone. This is an entertaining cozy paranormal mystery with well-developed characters, but the writing in this installment doesn’t flow as smoothly as the previous books in this series. Some of the details are off and some things are repeated more often than necessary, but since I’m reading an advance reader copy, those things may be corrected prior to publication. The clothing descriptions were interesting but a little too detailed for my taste; however, they fit perfectly with Cookie owning a vintage clothing shop.

Cookie Chanel loves all things vintage and is the owner of a vintage clothing shop named It's Vintage Y'All in Sugar Creek, Georgia. Cookie has the ability to see and speak with ghosts and her cat, Wind Song, is psychic and uses Ouija boards and Tarot cards to communicate with her, and interestingly, is her Grandma Pearl. Charlotte Meadows is the ghost who has adopted her. Cookie has become comfortable with her gift and sometimes slips and talks to the ghosts in front of others. Danielle Elston asked Cookie to find vintage hats for her to wear at the upcoming Kentucky Derby, so Cookie is gathering vintage hats from a trunk in an attic when Maureen Weber, a ghost, appears stating the hats are hers. Once Maureen realizes Cookie is live and can see her, she wants Cookie to find her murderer. Danielle, who has a horse entered in the Derby, wants Cookie to attend the Derby to make sure she’s dressed perfectly for all the events, so Cookie arranges for her best friend and mother to watch her shop, packs her bags, and she, Charlotte, Wind Song, and even Maureen, pile into her red 1946 Buick convertible and head to Kentucky. While attending the first luncheon, Cookie stumbles upon the body of Ramon Gooden, the jockey who was supposed to ride Danielle’s horse in the Derby, and his ghost wants Cookie to investigate his murder.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Cookie has gone to Kentucky for the Derby as one of her good clients has a horse running and wants Cookie to be there to help her pick out clothes for all the events leading up to the races. Before she even gets there though she has picked up another ghost (Maureen) and whilst there yet another (the jockey Ramon), add in her boyfriend turning up, a creepy guesthouse and Ken the lawyer also turning up Cookie has her hands full!

Cookie goes to help her friend Danielle dress for the Kentucky Derby. She is at a swanky Derby party when she discovers a dead body. Of course the guy wants her to find his killer. So does the other ghost who has tagged along to Kentucky. Read and see if the killers are caught.

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It by Rose Pressey is the fifth book in A Haunted Vintage Mystery series. Cookie Chanel owns It’s Vintage Y’all in Sugar Creek, Georgia. Cookie is getting ready to go to the Kentucky Derby with her client, Danielle Elston (she is styling her outfits). Cookie is at an estate sale looking for hats and discovers Maureen Weber in the attic (and she is very protective of her hats). She needs Cookie’s help and now Cookie has two ghosts tagging along—just what she does not need. Cookie packs up her car and heads to Kentucky along with Maureen, Charlotte, and her cat, Wind Song/Grandma Pearl (it’s complicated). Cookie is at an event at the Kentucky Derby Museum when she finds the body of jockey, Ramon Gooden. Ramon was murdered and he would like Cookie’s assistance in tracking down his killer (he is rather insistent). Cookie now has three ghosts tailing her and a B&B hostess who resembles a house mother. The killer is not happy with Cookie’s involvement and tries to take her out (more than once). Cookie will need to up her game if she is going to solve this crime and cross over Ramon. It does not help that Cookie’s two beau’s, Ken and Dylan arrive in town and provide pleasant distraction. Cookie’s mini-vacation in Kentucky is not quite what she had in mind.

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is not up to Rose Pressey’s usual standard. I found details repeated frequently throughout the book (I am not talking just once or twice either). The dialogue became confusing with three ghosts. It was hard to keep straight which ghost was talking. I did like the different setting in this book. We get a behind the scenes look at events surrounding the Kentucky Derby. There are numerous detailed dress, hat and accessory descriptions provided in If the Haunting Fits, Wear It. I thought the book was easy to read, had a nice pace, and entertaining characters. This may be the fifth book in the series, but it can easily be read alone. Cookie’s background and information from previous books is included in this story. My rating for If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is 3 out of 5 stars. Ramon’s murder was not complex and the killer is easily identified (sigh). Maureen’s situation was solved back home in Sugar Creek by Heather and Cookie’s mother (readers do not get a chance to figure this one out). The romance element is a love triangle (big sigh) that takes up a good portion of the book. I do not understand Cookie’s hesitancy to have a Ouija board around for Wind Song’s use (she never has one when the cat wishes to communicate with her). She states she is afraid of inviting in bad spirits, but the cat is only using it to give her a message by using the letters on the board (no summoning of spirits involved). I wish this paranormal mystery novel had more content (less wackiness). I found it lacking. I felt If the Haunting Fits, Wear It needed editing and some rewriting. It did not need three ghosts, the cat that contains the spirit of Grandma Pearl, two suitors, a rude and controlling B&B owner, special outfits for every outing—you see what I mean. I sincerely hope that Ms. Pressey will be back on her game in the next A Haunted Vintage Mystery.

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall: 5 Narration 4 Story 5

I have to admit that these are super-fun, occasionally twisty, always humorous stories that feature a vintage boutique owner who happens to be a bit of a ghost magnet, her cat who translates messages from the ‘other side’ via a Ouija board and plenty of fashion of the vintage style – well described, defined and detailed. In this installment, Cookie has been asked to provide hats for a society party in celebration of the Kentucky Derby. Cookie makes arrangements with her best friend and her mother to manage the shop, and with her friend and first ghostly encounter Charlotte, along with a new ghostly friend Maureen who needs help bringing her murderer to justice head off to Kentucky with a car full of hats for a party.

But, as often happens with Cookie – things don’t go smoothly….. the jockey for the favorite is found dead – and his ghost has come to Cookie as he also hopes, as with Maureen, she’ll investigate his death and bring the murderer to justice. Cookie isn’t just investigating in a strange city though, along with the hats she brought (all vintage) she’s also helping the women to work more vintage into their lives with outfits and tips for dressing for the derby and other occasions. In the midst of it all, someone is making it very clear to Cookie that her asking questions about dead people is not welcome, and that things could get a bit dicey for her as well. Of course, in the tradition of the other titles I’ve read in this series, there is fun and laughter, plenty of heart and some truly clever revelations – all which lead to Cookie being able to answer questions of both the fashion and murder variety.

Narration for this story is provided by Angie Hickman and she’s managed to present the characters with voices that felt appropriate for what I know of them. My first in this series in audio format, it was also my first encounter with Angie Hickman’s work and I was pleasantly surprised. With several characters in various states of existence, plenty of action and movement, descriptions and elements, she managed to present the story with flair and clarity and held my interest throughout.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I love this series! I'm not usually into cozies with ghosts, but how can you not like Charlotte? She's a hoot and the perfect crime solving partner for Cookie Chanel.

Cookie and Charlotte are at the Kentucky Derby. Cookie is there to work as a stylist, Charlotte to brush ghostly shoulders with the rich and famous and then two becomes four. Maureen, a woman who needs help finding out who murdered her and why and Ramon, a recently deceased jockey who has ties to Cookie's client, Danielle creates a dangerous Derby for Cookie.

I enjoy the relationship and witty exchanges between Charlotte & Cookie and the real friendship they have built. Cookie is determined to solve the murders and doesn't let the men in her life get in her way! The descriptions of the vintage fashions Cookie wears as well as the clothes in her store, bring back colorful memories from the 40's, 50's, 60's and to present day.

You don't have to read the books in order, but it's fun to see the development of the characters, especially a beautiful cat named Wind Song who holds a special place in Cookie's heart! By the way, you'll love the ending!!

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It by Rose Pressey was another enjoyable addition to her A Haunted Vintage Mystery series.

Cookie and Charlotte are off to the Kentucky Derby to help a client "dress" for the big events. Of course, Cookie, finds a dead body the first night there. We also get to meet not just one but two new ghosts who are both looking for justice. Dylan and Ken both show up to keep Cookie company while at the Derby which causes some problems for Cookie as she tries to juggle both men.

A steady plot, some twists and plenty of suspects created a mystery that was fun and easy to read.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

I'll preface this by saying I've never read any other books by this author and I don't normally read these cozy "Saturday morning" mysteries. The reason I decided to read this one is because my boyfriend was shelving books at work and he texted me a picture of the cover and I thought it was ridiculous so I told him to check it out for me.

Cookie Chanel is a vintage fashion blogger, amateur sleuth, spiritual medium, etc. etc. etc. In this book you accompany her to the Kentucky Derby where she was hired to do...uh...apparently she had a job there? Or something? Idk, she never does it, so I can't remember.

The book isn't a brain teaser. It's not really a whodunit. Everyone is pure, beautiful, fashionable, sweet and quirky except for the murderer. You obviously know who it is because the author all but has the murderer waving their hands around screaming to the rafters that they are the murderer. You won't be scratching your head or getting any spectacular eureka moments.

The chapters are short, quick to read until you get to the end. It's rushed, really. Chapters are 3-4 pages long until suddenly they are in the double-digits length to just seem to give the story a resolution. Each chapter is prefaced with a saccharine, milquetoast "fashion" or "life" tips. Maybe I just don't have enough "Live, Love, Laugh" merch in my house to take them to heart but they really have no purpose other than just being quirky.

Since I haven't read any of the other books, this is an outsider's point of view but Cookie is very bland. I constantly forgot her name. Unless it was described in other books I don't even remember what she looked like. Her ghost companions have more personality, charm, humor, and overall allure than the main character. There's also this weird, shoe-horned love triangle that's in that's somehow okay for Cookie to string two dudes around while other people are chastised for having affairs and having the company of the opposite sex around them. Who knows? Maybe I'm not the right demographic for this book. But you might as well just imagine a mannequin in vintage designer clothing because that's all Cookie was to me.

The ending is laughably fast, as if the author was literally given a page limit of how long to write these books and realized they wrote too many clothing descriptions that they couldn't bring the story to a resolution. But who knows, maybe that's just how all these novels end? I didn't feel satisfied reading the book, but it did help me pass the time. Take from that what you like.

*******Copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review *****

I read the first book in this series in 2014 and wanted to like it but had some problems with it. I said then that I might come back and check in on the series in a few books time and see how it had developed and so here I am.

But it didn't work for me I'm afraid, the dialogue is stilted and the addition of more ghosts (some of whom (still) got on my nerves) put the premise is on the edge of what I can cope with - I can only cope with lots of ghosts and supernatural stuff when the writing really grabs me, and this didn't. The characters still feel quite two dimensional and the massive cast of character still didn't feel particularly well differentiated.

Hey ho, never mind. May well work better for other people who have a lower threshold for ghosts than me, but I don't think I'll be back again this time.

I was interested in seeing Cookie get out of town thinking it would perk up the series. Unfortunately, the derby elements and descriptions was really down played. The story was fairly typical with Cookie picking up the temporary ghost(s) du jour and having issues with the guys on her line.

There's no development, there is a bit of repetition and why does she refer to the cat by both her grandmother's name and a cat name (and we get told about both names more than once)? The two guys notice each other and neither says ANYTHING?!?

I got my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Cookie Chanel has landed a plum gig - she’s attending the Kentucky Derby with her rich friend Danielle, and all she has to do is help Danielle choose outfits and hats. Because of this, she’s in the attic of a home recently purchased, and the owner said she could take whatever she wanted. Before she’s able to do so, however, she’s confronted by a ghost named Maureen who informs her that the hats belong to her and Cookie can’t have them. But after a confrontation with Cookie and her resident spirit Charlotte, Maureen agrees if Cookie will find out who murdered her.

So Cookie, Charlotte, Maureen and Wind Song, Cookie’s cat/grandmother, have been booked into a very odd B&B with a nasty-tempered host, but other than that, she’s looking forward to spending time there. However, during her first event with Danielle, she finds the body of Ramon Gooden, a jockey. Now Cookie has three spirits hanging out with her, because Ramon expects her to help find his murderer too.

But not knowing anyone in Kentucky, Cookie might find things more difficult - especially since the B&B owner is giving her such a hard time. Still, she manages to catch bits of conversation here and there, and is pleasantly surprised when Detective Dylan Valentine shows up; she knows he can get information from the police she’s not able to do. Unfortunately, Attorney Ken Harrison shows up also; both men are worried about her when they hear she’s found a body so hightailed it to Kentucky to see if she's alright.

So now Cookie has three ghosts to contend with, two men wanting to occupy her time, and one unhappy B&B owner who's suspicious of her. At least she's able to delegate somewhat - she has her friend Heather and her mother back in Sugar Creek looking into Maureen's death, but trying to find a killer at the Derby isn't easy, especially when she doesn't know anything about the victim - and he won't say much at all. It's going to take all her sleuthing skills to find out the truth and keep herself from permanently joining her temporary trio of ghosts...

I found this to be an entertaining read, and this time around she has two ghosts who need to find out who murdered them. I always enjoy reading Rose Pressey's books, and this one was no different, but I did wonder why the ghosts didn't help out more. As an example, she was trying to solve Ramon's murder, so why couldn't he go into the black truck and see if he recognized the driver? Ramon appeared to be hindering instead of being helpful to Cookie's investigation by not being truthful.

Aside from that, it was a quick read and engaging enough to keep me reading it in one sitting. This is the fifth book in the Haunted Vintage Mysteries, a cute paranormal series that has a little romance in it, too. I look forward to reading the next in the series. Recommended.

Cookie Channel is the type of protagonist you can't help but fall in love with. She has charm and charisma, with her psychic cat make an unusual, but formidable combination. The story moves quickly from scene to scene and pulls you into the story from the very star. I truly enjoyed Cookie's ability to see and communicate with ghost.

*** Possible Spoilers ***

This book is fluff and needs to be evaluated accordingly. On the cover is an endorsement from Janet Evanovich and it seems like the author was attempting to follow Ms. Evanovich's formula for success.

The heroine is a bit of a ditz who is surrounded by quirky characters. in this case the characters are ghosts. She has a feisty grandmother who happens to be dead and possessing the body of a cat. She has an arms-length mother who is supportive nonetheless and she has two boyfriends - one of whom she's thinking of marrying - in more of a philosophical sense. That one is a policeman.
In the case of Evanovich's protagonist, Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter and is therefore responsible for finding people who skip out on bail. Cookie Chanel, the heroine of this book stumbles across the recent deceased who request her to find their murderers and won't go away until she does. All that is fine and some humor is derived from Cookie's need to explain why she periodically seems to be talking to herself but in these days of tiny phones I found that wearing a bit thin. Both characters are largely inept and stumble across the truth as much by accident as design. In the end, each heroine gets into a life-threatening jam and is rescued by one of the boyfriends. That's the formula and it works very well for Evanovich but not so much for Ms. Pressey,

For one thing, Cookie is utterly disorganized. She has no plan - nothing - for finding the murderer but goes around supposedly interviewing people who might have some information but is incapable of formulating and pursuing a line of questioning. She periodically breaks into somewhere dangerous in order to look for clues when she could simply have one of her ghostly companions drift through the wall to take a look and then report back. She tries to sneak up on people in order to eavesdrop on their conversation when she could request a ghost to go straight up to them, listen and then report back. Yes the character lacks focus but I suspect that in fact the author is more concerned with churning out verbiage than paying attention to the details of her plot.

Still the book is reasonably pleasant to read and since this is a bestselling author then presumably there is a suitably large demographic of readers who don't feel constrained by a lack of rationality so, as a fluff read I think this is reasonable but hardly exceptional.

This is the 5th installment to the Haunted Vintage Mystery series, but can easily be read as a stand alone.

Cookie Chanel, owns a vintage clothes store in small town Georgia and is invited along to the Kentucky Derby, to help dress a client for the various events. As per her usual, her ghost friend Charlotte, her grandmother in the cat's body, Wind Song, and general chaos and murder follow her right along. She discovers the dead body of the jockey who was to ride her client's horse and he begs her to help solve his murder while she is there. Being that she can't say no to anyone, she agrees to it and sticks her nose into all sorts of places, trying to solve this crime.

For a murder mystery, this is a really sweet story (as are all of them in this series) This is not James Patterson, John Sanford, or John Grisham kind of suspense and murder which is why I call it a sweet story. Don't pick up this book expecting that, you won't find it. It's fluffy murder, not put on your thinking cap and find clues kind of murder. That's TOTALLY ok though, the author, Rose Pressey, pulls it off, and as long as you go into it expecting that, you will really enjoy the story.

I loved that it took place in a different locale than her other books in the series, that was a nice departure (because really, how many murders can happen in one small town) I enjoyed the love triangle that kind of, sort of, maybe, perhaps, tried to develop this book. There was a little alluding to the potential of one with the last book, so I was happy to see Ken in this one, but that little plot sort of fizzled out rather quickly. It started and then just didn't go anywhere. Which brings me to my only other complaint with this book. The story flowed the first 87% of the way and then it felt like bam, we were on the fast track to get to the ending. I felt a little as though she grabbed a few directions, tossed them in a hat and just added them however they were drawn out of that hat. It didn't flow and it didn't have any real rhyme or reason. Still a good book and still worth picking up.

On a side note, could Cookie really not have any worse ghost friends than what she's got? They are the most UNHELPFUL bunch of spirits I've ever come across. Have they never heard of being a look out?

My thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3 1/2 stars

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is the 5th book in the Haunted Vintage Mystery series. It's an entertaining cozy paranormal mystery that made for a fun afternoon read. The book is set right before and during the Kentucky Derby.

Cookie Chanel, the owner of a vintage clothing store, is hired to provide clothing and hats for Kentucky Derby parties. Her client, Danielle, has a horse running in the race, so Cookie meets all the trainers etc. involved with getting the horse ready to race.

As in the other Haunted Vintage Mysteries, Cookie is accompanied by Charlotte, a ghost who adopted her and her cat (who also happens to be her grandmother). In this book, she's also with Maureen, a new ghost who wants Cookie to find out how she was murdered. At one of Derby parties, Cookie finds the body of the jockey, Ramon, the jockey who was supposed to ride her client's horse. Ramon appears as a ghost and wants Cookie to investigate his murder.

I enjoyed the book, but the dialogue was sometimes hard to follow because there were three ghosts speaking whenever Cookie had a conversation. It would be easier to read if the ghosts' dialogue were somehow distinguished from the rest. Cookie solves murders to get rid of the ghosts that follow her around, and that premise is a little far-fetched, but it's a paranormal mystery so suspending belief is part of appreciating the book!
The characters were fun, the setting was different and unusual, and the writing was well paced and easy to read.

The Kentucky Derby setting made the book stand out, and the descriptions of the dresses were great and sounded beautiful. The background information about horse training was interesting as well. This book could be read as a standalone without reading the others in the series. They are all engaging.

This was an amusing, quick cozy mystery, and I recommend it to cozy mystery readers, especially those who enjoy paranormal or fashion mysteries.

Murders, Ghosts, Vintage Clothing, & Kentucky Derby

Cookie Chanel heads to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky, with her ever-present ghost side kick, Charlotte Meadows. Hired to dress celebrity friend Danielle, Cookie gathers beautiful vintage wear for parties, dinners, & the Derby. She also gathers another ghost, Maureen, who seeks out Cookie to find out who killed her. Cookie, 2 ghosts, Wind Song (the cat which contains her grandmother's spirit), and vintage gowns, hats, and casual wear, arrive at the b & b she's booked to find it rather remote and an elderly proprietor who is odd controlling. Cookie stumbles on a dead body (& his ghost) at the first function, which gives her 2 murders to solve. The 3 ghosts and Cookie investigate both murders and get themselves into many sticky situations. Both of Cookie's suitors turn up in Louisville, causing more of Cookie's zany antics.
I've read this series since the beginning and have enjoyed Cookie's adventures in both crime solving & vintage clothing. While this entry in the series was entertaining, it was also not nearly as good a mystery as he others. I found plenty of continuity errors, which made me feel as though it had either not been read/proofread by editor, or that this novel was hastily written & published. A lackluster effort, unfortunately. I can recommend it 20th reservations to fans of the series, and hope that Ms. Pressey takes more care in her work product that readers deserve.

This is not my first Rose Pressey book. In fact, she is on the list of authors that I search for at the used book store. I really enjoy her Haunted Vintage Mystery Series, and was happy to review this book.

This is the fifth book in the series. This one was a bit of a departure, as we traveled with Cookie to Kentucky to see the Derby instead of hanging out in her Vintage Clothing shop in Georgia. We get to go to the fancy parties and hang out with the horses prior to the race. As most cozies take place in the same town every book, I thought this was a clever departure. And what a perfect venue for a clothes hound! I like the addition of Dylan coming to surprise her and spend time with her so he isn't left out despite Cookie being out of town. The mystery is interesting, although I was pretty sure who did it for most of the book. Staying at the strange B&B was an odd choice, but it did add some color to the story.

I liked the ending a great deal- Ramon's "departure" was very clever and I love what she tells Dylan (not trying to spoil it for you, but it's good!). I did feel a few chapters ending rather abruptly, but besides that, it was a solid entertaining read. Can't wait for the next one!

Cookie Chanel is on the road helping a client, Danielle, dress for the Kentucky Derby. While attending one of the parties, she discovers the dead body of Danielle's jockey, Ramon. Of course, his ghost starts following her around. He joins regular ghost Charlotte and another woman who had joined earlier in the book, Maureen.
Cookie decides to stick around to see if she can help solve Ramon's murder. While there, both of her beaus (Love-triangle alert! Seriously?) follow her and try to help out. Not helping out? Heather, the woman who owns the B&B where Cookie is staying. Also not helping, the fact that Ramon doesn't seem to have been a nice guy. It makes it hard to find out who murdered you when there are a number of people lining up for the chance.
Really, this book was two and a half stars but I had to round down because, comparing it to other books in the series, this was just not as good. The love triangle with Cookie took up a lot of space (and didn't really add to the mystery), Maureen took up a lot of space (and definitely didn't add to the mystery), and there just wasn't enough room to develop the main mystery.
And don't even get me started on that horrible ending. I hope it gets changed before publication.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
Ghosts, cats, vintage fashion and The Kentucky Derby all combine for a whole lot of fun in this book. I have enjoyed the series where Cookie is now the PI for the dead who haunt her until she uncovers the villain behind their demises. The ghost of her first case has stuck around like a post mortem sidekick and her grandmother now shares the body of her cat, Wind Song, who is quite handy around a ouijia board. If this sounds amusing, you are right.
Cookie has her plate full this time with doubleheader murders. She picks up her first "case" when she is checking out vintage hats to take with her to the Derby and then the second one at a Derby party where she is hired to dress one of the owners of a horse in the race. Her car and her schedule is full with three ghosts, not counting Wind Song, two boyfriends who want to spend time with her and two murders to solve. Luckily, she seems to handle it with grace and humour.
This is a good series- heavy into fantasy- and is thoroughly enjoyable. I even enjoy the little tidbits and quotes at the start of each chapter. If you are looking for some light reading for the summer, pick this up.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

The book was really just OK, which I know on Goodreads is only 2 stars, but I felt it was better than two stars. My biggest complain is the short, choppy sentences. I've read several books by this author, but this is the first time I've noticed and been annoyed by short choppy sentences. She also tends to jump from one idea to the next without proper transitions. The murder and new ghost in this book weren't very interesting, and the killer was pretty obvious though the motive was never made clear. And Cookie was such an idiot, hiding evidence from the police and putting herself in unnecessary danger. There was also way too much telling and not nearly enough showing. Churchill Downs is such an iconic place and the Derby is such a fashionable event with all the vintage hats, yet there was not enough description to make me feel as if I were actually there. It could have been any barn anywhere. As a fashionista, Cookie should have been more interested in all the hats. Nevertheless, I'll still keep reading the series. I like the ghosts and grandma as a cat. I just wish instead of having catma communicate via a Ouija board they would get a touch screen keyboard with large key pads for her to use. Ouija boards creep me out!

This is more of a 3.5 star rating. I've read all of the books in this series so far. I love the vibrant covers on all the books, but this is my favorite cover so far.
The vibrant colors caught my eye and I'm just a huge fan of book covers, they tell a lot about the book and the author.
In this story, my favorite clothing fashionista, Cookie Chanel is at it again. Dressed in her vintage attire, it's time for the Kentucky Derby and everyone is excited.
Cookie and her sidekick, Charlotte are soon in the middle of a murder when new ghost, Maureen, seeks Cookies help and the death of a jockey at the derby stirs things up.
I loved that the story took place at the derby. It was different and it made interesting.
Parts of the story fell flat for me and I was skimming pages that didn't interest me.
I think the confusion for me lies in the investigation itself. When Cookie is helping a ghost and solving a murder, it gets a bit disjointed and hard to follow.
I think with a little more polishing, this would have been 5 stars.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

This is a great book; this is the fifth book in the Haunted Vintage Mystery series and written by Rose Pressey. When Cookie Chanel lands a dream assignment of providing vintage hats for a high-society Kentucky Derby party, she's brimming with excitement. Leaving her mother and best friend to mind the store at It's Vintage Y'All, Cookie packs up her psychic cat and races to Kentucky. But before she can hang her hat, her enthusiasm is dampened when the rider of the potential Derby-winning horse is put out to pasture. Now she's saddled with the jockey's ghost, who insists she find his killer. With suspects ranging from an odds-on favorite to a dark horse, Cookie may just find herself in a dead heat before the photo finish. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

If the Haunting Fits, Wear It is the fifth book in the Haunted Vintage Mystery Series. This time two ghosts attach themselves to Cookie demanding they solve their murder. I was really looking forward to two mysteries in one but was a bit disappointed overall. Overall this has been my least favorite of the series and parts felt a bit off.

Cookie is excited to be providing wardrobe information to a new client and eagerly packs up to travel to the Kentucky Derby. Upon arriving she runs into a ghost of a woman who is not happy she is digging through her vintage clothing. Annoyed the woman demands Cookie solves her murder and just when she is coming to terms with finding a new wayward spirit Cookie runs into a dead jockey. Now the jockey is insisting his murder gets solved as well.

Overall the story felt a bit weak. The owner of the bed and breakfast Cookie stayed at was the most interesting character by far. I also was not a fan of the weak love triangle going on. Even though I struggled with If the Haunting Fits, Wear It I do plan on continuing the series.
